• VSTS 2010 SGEN : error : Could not load file or assembly (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131515)

  Hi ! I am experiencing a strange issue with VS2010. We use TFS to build our API dlls and we used to reference them in our projects usign a mapped network drive that was fully trusted. We have been working like that for at least two years and everything worked perfectly. Today, I converted a webapp to vs2010 and when I compile it in Release, it's giving me: SGEN : error : Could not load file or assembly 'file:///L:\Api\Release API_20100521.1\Release\CS.API.Exceptions.dll' or one of its dependencies. Operation is not supported. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131515) The strange thing is that it's working when it's under the Debug profile... I tried adding the <runtime> <loadFromRemoteSources enabled="true" /> </runtime> into app.config and still no luck (See http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/msbuild/thread/d12f6301-85bf-4b9e-8e34-a06398a60df0 and http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd409252(VS.100).aspx) I am pretty sure that this issue is from visual studio or msbuild, as our code won't run from a network share when in prod because all the referenced dll's are copied into the bin folder. If anyone has an solution (or just an idea for a search path) please let me know !

  Having trouble working out this SqlException: A transport-level error has occurred when sending the request to the server. (provider: Session Provider, error: 19 - Physical connection is not usable) Any ideas what this is about? Couldn't get any hits on google or msdn on this one. The connection is MARS and Asynchronous in my own SQL pool. But don't get all excited about that - that is old code that has been stable for a long time! • How can I get a Silverlight application to check for an update and ask user to upgrade?

  I have made an out-of-browser silverlight application which I want to automatically update every time there is a new .xap file uploaded to the server. When the user right-clicks the application and clicks on Updates, the default is set to "Check for updates, but let me choose whether to download and install them": This leads me to believe that it is possible to make my Silverlight application automatically detect if there is a new .xap file present on the server, and if there is, the Silverlight client will automatically ask the user if he would like to install it. This however is not the case. I upload a new .xap file and the Silverlight application does nothing. Even if I add this to my App.xaml.cs: -- private void Application_Startup(object sender, StartupEventArgs e) { this.RootVisual = new BaseApp(); if (Application.Current.IsRunningOutOfBrowser) { Application.Current.CheckAndDownloadUpdateAsync(); } } and update the .xap file, the Silverlight application does nothing. • Using Visual Studio 2008 to Assemble, Link, Debug, and Execute MASM 6.11 Assembly Code

  I would like to use Visual Studio 2008 to the greatest extent possible while effectively compiling/linking/building/etc code as if all these build processes were being done by the tools provided with MASM 6.11. The exact version of MASM does not matter, so long as it's within the 6.x range, as that is what my college is using to teach 16-bit assembly. I have done some research on the subject and have come to the conclusion that there are several options: Reconfigure VS to call the MASM 6.11 executables with the same flags, etc as MASM 6.11 would natively do. Create intermediary batch file(s) to be called by VS to then invoke the proper commands for MASM's linker, etc. Reconfigure VS's built-in build tools/rules (assembler, linker, etc) to provide an environment identical to the one used by MASM 6.11. Option (2) was brought up when I realized that the options available in VS's "External Tools" interface may be insufficient to correctly invoke MASM's build tools, thus a batch file to interpret VS's strict method of passing arguments might be helpful, as a lot of my learning about how to get this working involved my manually calling ML.exe, LINK.exe, etc from the command prompt. Below are several links that may prove useful in answering my question. Please keep in mind that I have read them all and none are the actual solution. I can only hope my specifying MASM 6.11 doesn't prevent anyone from contributing a perhaps more generalized answer. • How to change StartupUri of WPF Application?

  I am trying to modify App.cs and load the WPF XAML files from code behind but its not working as it should. I checked in reverse assembly that DoStartup method of App gets called after OnStartup, so technically my StartupUri must load, but it doesnt, in App.xaml startup uri is not at all defined. Note: Bug Confirmed I noticed that ShowDialog sets Application.MainWindow and when dialog ends, it sets it back to null, and because of this setting StartupUri does not work after calling Modal Dialog in OnStartup or Startup event. There is no error or exception about invalid uri or anything like that. This method works without DialogBox being called in Startup event or OnStartup, i think calling showdialog on this method causes something like its mainwindow being set to expired window and it shuts down after this.

• Unknown Build Error using WPF Toolkit

  I installed the Feb 2010 WPF Toolkit as I'm interested in evaluating the AutoCompleteBox control and I'm having extremely limited success. I can get the control to work, but as soon as I try and set any of it's properties in XAML, I get the following: Unknown build error, 'Cannot resolve dependency to assembly 'WPFToolkit, Version=3.5.40128.1, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' because it has not been preloaded. When using the ReflectionOnly APIs, dependent assemblies must be pre-loaded or loaded on demand through the ReflectionOnlyAssemblyResolve event. I've been testing this on a blank WPF window in a new solution. I'm guessing I'm just missing a reference or something... • Using IIS Application Request Routing (ARR) for ASP.NET MVC

  I use a simple ASP.NET MVC web (the template you use when you create a new site) and the web works as expected in my live environment. I now try to use IIS Application Request Routing version 2. I have a rule that send all reuqests to a different server that match a rule. The settings are a bit like this: http://blogs.iis.net/wonyoo/archive/2008/07/09/application-request-routing-arr-as-a-reverse-proxy.aspx My rule is just a bit different it is /shop(.*). Only requests that contain shop are send to a different server. I have to use rewrite, not redirect (The same as in the Picture) This works as long as the web the original requests go to is no ASP.NET MVC web. I tried to use a plain htm file in the webfolder and it worked. If put a compiled ASP.NET application into the webfolder it worked. But as soon as I put an ASP.NET MVC web into the folder, request arr served by this application. My understanding is that the ARR should kick in before the web application gets the chance to handle the request. Did anybody use ARR sucessfully as a reverse proxy for a ASP.NET MVC web? EDIT Here is the resulting web config when the rewrite roule is entered. • ASP.NET 4.0 UpdatePanel and UserControl with PlaceHolder

  I don't know if this is ASP.NET 4.0 specific but I don't recall having this problem in previous versions. I have very simple user control called "TestModal" that contains a PlaceHolder control which I use to instantiate a template in. When I put an UpdatePanel inside this UserControl on the page the updatepanel only does full postbacks and not partial postbacks. What gives?   I want to loop through a collection of objects and add them all to a table. The destination table has an auto-increment field. If I add a single object there is no problem. If I add two objects both with the primary key of zero, the entity framework fails. I can manually specify primary keys but the whole point of trying the EF was to make life easier not more complicated. My question is why does the AJAX form work for an Html.TextBox, but not for an Html.DropDownList, or what am I doing wrong? My only idea is that maybe the argument in the controller is not supposed to be of type string when using a DropDownList, but this is really just a guess. Thanks in advance.

  I'm getting the following error in my MVC2 app using Linq to SQL (I am new to both). I am connected to an actual SQL server not weird mdf: System.InvalidOperationException The null value cannot be assigned to a member with type System.Int64 which is a non-nullable value type My SQL table has a column called MessageID. It is BigInt type and has a primary key, NOT NULL and an IDENTITY 1 1, no Default In my dbml designer it has the following declaration for this field: [global::System.Data.Linq.Mapping.ColumnAttribute(Storage="_MessageId", AutoSync=AutoSync.OnInsert, DbType="BigInt NOT NULL IDENTITY", IsPrimaryKey=true, IsDbGenerated=true)] public long MessageId { get { return this._MessageId; } set { if ((this._MessageId != value)) { this.OnMessageIdChanging(value); this.SendPropertyChanging(); this._MessageId = value; this.SendPropertyChanged("MessageId"); this.OnMessageIdChanged(); } } } It keeps telling me that null cannot be assigned - I'm not passing through null! It's a long - it can't even be null! Am I doing something stupid? I can't find a solution anywhere! I made this work by changing the type of this property to Nullable<long> but surely this can't be right? Update: I am using InsertOnSubmit.   I'm new to using WCF and Azure, but I have a WCF Web Service that works correctly when debugging in Visual Studio. I set the startup project to Azure, and I get 404 errors for any URL I try related to the service. The problem I've encountered is it appears the Variable cannot be used outside the activity. I'll use StreamReader as an example resource.
