• Wireless will not connect on an Asus U56? [closed]

  I have an ASUS U56. I could connect to internet without delay or problems in Ubuntu 11.04. Now, running Ubuntu 11.10, I have not been able to connect. I can see the network and the computer tries to connect, but never makes the connection. I have been trying to fix this problem since the release date of 11.10. I had to install the older kernel 2.6 to get the wifi to work. • Internet Timeouts with TP-Link TL-WN821N v2 wireless usb stick

  A short time after accessing the internet, the browser/download times out. Before the timeout, the internet works OK briefly; afterwards, the wireless is still connected with a strong signal, but every internet access results in a timeout. When I leave the PC for a while, the internet is back just to timeout again as soon as I start using it. The same happens when I reconnect to the router. Also, when I surf the internet, it takes a couple of minutes until the timeout, but when I download something, it times out in a matter of seconds. The wireless adapter works just fine in Windows and internet via ethernet cable works just fine in Ubuntu. Does anyone have the same problem or knows a solution. I use Ubuntu 12.10 x64. The problem occurs since I installed ubuntu (which was a few days ago). • Set up a GUI managed firewall for other machines?

  What ways are there of setting up a firewall for traffic routed for other machines whose rules can be managed by a GUI? Can GUFW do it? FireStarter? (or should that be avoided because it is supposedly no longer updated?) *By filtering, I'm mean the traffic I am setting rules up for is not destined for this computer. It is either from or to other computers on my LAN. Say, for (a simplified, hypothetical) example: I have an ethernet connection at my dorm that I have plugged into eth0. It gets an address of 192.168.1.185 and I also have 192.168.185.0/24 routed to me, so I don't have to do any NAT. I have a hub attached to my second ethernet port (eth1) with a few Windows computers and I give addresses out of my 192.168.185.0/24 block with DHCP. How can I use my Ubuntu box to block incoming connections from eth0 that are being routed to my Windows computers and let through just a few specific ports (so fellow students can't see what files my Windows boxes are sharing via SMB)?

  I recently switched to Ubuntu. I've been having a lot of internet troubles ever since. I used Windows 7 before. I've had trouble loading web pages, and it would take a solid minute or two to even start displaying anything. Why is this? How can I fix this? • ubuntu 12.10 Lenovo b570e, WiFi connected but not working

  I'm running ubuntu 12.10 liveUSB on a lenovo b570e. It has an atheros wifi card that connects with my home network but I can't browse AT ALL. My network is multiple clients --> router --> isp modem --> Internet I can ping my router (192.168.0.1) but not my isp's modem(192.168.15.1). I have 3 other computers connected to the same router that are working fine (infact i'm posting from one) ping -c 3 google.com unknown host google.com ping -c 3 8.8.8.8 shows 100% packet loss I think its some networking issue. I tried directly connecting it to the router via ethernet cable but same issue. It gets an ip, shows LAN connected but can't browse. If I connect it directly to the isp modem via ethernet cable it starts working fine. Connection Information shows: Interface: 802.11 wifi (wlan0) driver: ath9k security: wpa/wpa2 speed: 150mb/s ip: 192.168.0.106 broadcast: 192.168.0.255 subnet:255.255.255.0 default route: 192.168.0.1 primary dns: 192.168.15.1 i have restarted the router and modem many times. Rebooted the LiveUSB many times.

• HP DV6 connects but no internet

  I have a Hewlett Packard DV6. I connected to the access point. I receive an IP address/default gateway/DNS,etc(DHCP). I cannot ping my gateway. DNS lookups fails. There is just no connectivity. My driver is listed as being IWLWIFI. An lspci shows my card to be a Realtek RTL8101E/RTL8102E. • How do I bridge my wireless to my wired connection?

  I want to bridge the wireless connection with the wired connection. The wireless is the host and the wired is the client, so to speak. Internet sharing (inet <--> wifi <--> ethernet) I tried to bridge my ethernet connection by going to network manager edit connections wired edit IPv4 settings shared to other computers Screenshots However, it seems to automatically disconnect half a second after it says "connection established"! edit 2 got the network manager logs, it seems the address is in use. See http://pastebin.com/DjqRshxW , line 45. nm-tool output is here: http://pastebin.com/x5Aci5V1 . I tried firestarter, as mentioned in another thread, and no luck. I don't have time to bother with a dozen command line tricks, unless is copy & pasting a shell script... so please suggest ways that use GUIs and/or won't leave my computer in a confused state (e.g. disabling network manager, manually connecting to a WPA network, installing brutils, etc.). edit: one idea that would work, if it's possible -- is there a way to share connections via SSH and SOCKS5? I'd need to do this at a system-wide level though; I only know how to do it through the browser now. Then, I could run ifconfig eth0 192.168.4.1 on the computer sharing the inet, and ifconfig eth0 192.168.4.2 on the computer I'm trying to share with; I know this does work for host-to-host transfers. edit 3 If I run sudo killall dnsmasq, then nothing is using the 10.42.43.1 address the network manager sharing wants to use. But now it just takes longer to die, with error "NetworkManager[5935]: dnsmasq died with signal 9" [ http://pastebin.com/4FNtpugi ]. Looking at just the commands [ http://pastebin.com/1vrtQeWk ], maybe it's trying to route eth0 to itself? I'm not that familiar with networking things though.

• Wired card not connecting after trying to connect

  I have an Ubuntu 12.10 PC. When I plug in my internet cable it starts connecting and after a minute it says it can't connect. I tried different cables but nothing works. Wlan works. I think it's the network driver but I don't know how to install/update it.   Currently i am running 12.04 and looking for an upgrade to 13.10 I first tried a bootable 64bit usb and failed. With the message saying "Kernal requires an x86-64 CPU but only detected an I686 CPU Unable to boot please use a kernal appropriate for your CPU" then tried 32bit and same message came up. Is this due to my laptop simply being to slow? or can/should i change the kernal somehow? • WIFI/LAN not working after Installing Ubuntu 13.10

  I can't connect to my WIFI after installing Ubuntu 13.10. I tried re-installing it three times (thinking that I did something wrong during the installation) but I still can't connect to my WIFI. It just gives me the message that I'm offline and that I can't connect to my WIFI. I also tried connecting to the internet using LAN cable but with the same results. I tried google but it seems that there's no solution to this yet.... Anybody knows how to solve this? Thanks! • IE8 Jquery Javascript "Error: Object required" Bug

  IE8 throws an "Error: Object required" message (error in the actual jquery library script, not my javascript file) when the switch statement in this function runs. This code works in IE6, IE7, FF3, and Safari... Any ideas? Does it have something to do with the '$(this)' selector in the switch? • C#: Excel 2007 Addin, How to Hook Windows Activate and Deactivate Events

  I am writing an Excel 2007 Addin. using VS2008 and .net 3.5, C#. I catched Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.Application's WindowActivate and WindowDeActivate events. It was surprised to know that WindowActivate and Deactivate only triggers when i switch between two Excel Windows. if i switch to notepad, i expect Deactivate to be triggered, but its not happening. same way from notepad if i switch to excel window, i expect Activate to be triggered but its not happening. It looks like the behaviour indicates windows are MDI-Child windows. Now what i want to do is get HWnd of Excel's Mainwindow and hook Window Activate and Deactivates using dllimport features. Can anyone guide to me on this. Regards

  In a WPF RichTextBox, the effective style of a Run of text is a result of combining the properties defined on the Run with the properties it "inherits" from the enclosing Paragraph and finally the styles on the Document. So you can set FontWeight to Bold at any of those levels. You can also set it Bold on the Paragraph and then switch it to Normal (override it) for a specific Run. However, underline and strikethrough are different. They are items that can optionally appear in a list of TextDecorations, which is a property of Inline (and hence Run) and of Paragraph, but not of Document. And you can switch on Underline in the Paragraph, and it gets inherited so that all Runs within that Paragraph default appear underlined by default. Is it possible to switch it off underline in a specific Run? i.e. is there a way to insert an entry into the list of TextDecorations which would mean "Don't underline", thus overriding the Paragraph's setting?

• Git - switching between branches in the middle of work

  For various reasons (code review mostly) I need to switch from current development branch to other branches quite often. Currently, I use either 'git stash' to shelve the uncommitted changes, checkout other branch, then switch back and do 'git stash apply' However, sometimes I'd have some newly added files there, which are not tracked. Unfortunately, stashing does not affect them. In this case I'd have to add them to the index and stash. What I am looking here for is a workflow where I'd have to perform a minimal set of actions to switch the branches, preferably avoiding adding of files into the index.

• How do you do A/B switching in a web app? (for deploying updates)

  I currently have a mysite.com (A) which points to /public_html/ and a dev.mysite.com (B) which I created a /dev_html/ for that. I cloned the site but now I need a way of switching between them without having to copy all the files from one dir to another and without bringing the site down. I just want to switch the live site to B and then work on A, and when I finish, switch the live site to A and work on B. Is there a simple way? I'm using cPanel X and cPanel 11 (WHM VPS). Also, both can interact with the same database so that's not an issue as I'm not changing any database structure. Only the php/js/img files need to switch.

• A little bit more complicated multiview App for Iphone

  Hi, i'm new to iphone development. I spend several days by looking for how write muliview app for an Iphone OS. I found how to switch the diferent views without navigation hierarchy (in this article). It's great, but i want more complicated function. For example, i have three diferent views (view 1 - 3) and i can switch between them with technique from link 1. It works fine. My question is: How can i put UITabBarController on view 2, that shows own subviews (tabView 1 - 3) and how put UINavigationController on view 3, that shows own subviews (navView 1 - 2)? The reslut should look like that, one main view (view 1) with two buttons (for example), which switch me to "window" with UiTabBarController or UINavigationController. I found only tutorials, where UITabBarController was a first controller class, that shows directly from AppDelegate (something like default Xcode predefined scenarios). Thanks for your helpfull answer, or i will be crazy soon:).

• ActionBarSherlock + ViewPager caching more then just prev/next view

  on the page: onCreate called for two tabs each time one tab is selected there is explained how the ABS(actually ViewPager) is working in order for ViewPager to be able to do a scrolling. It is clear that at least a prev/next page need all to be created at the same time. Would it be possible to "cache" more than just prev/next Views(Fragments), in a way: I am on Page 1 and there I have a network call to fetch some data(doing this in Activity, not in Fragment - btw. is this OK?) switch to Page 2, and then switch to Page 3, and then switch to Page 1 = Here my page is recreated (using some caching though, BUT, I do not need any recreation if possible) So, it would be nice to cache all the pages. How to accomplish this If possible in current version (4), or this would be some new feature? Or even better question, how to postpond/disable destroying of views?

  How can I switch to the document to the left or right of the current document in Notepad++? For example, if I have documents A, B, and C open, and I'm currently editing B, I would like a shortcut to be able to switch to A (Alt-LeftArrow or Ctrl-Pageup) or C (Alt-RightArrow or Ctrl-PageDown). Is this possible? All I've found is a way to switch to next or previous documents based on the "history" of when the document was last opened (Ctrl-Tab and Ctrl-Shift-Tab), which are useful, but not what I want.

• What's the best way to implement one-dimensional collision detection?

  I'm writing a piece of simulation software, and need an efficient way to test for collisions along a line. The simulation is of a train crossing several switches on a track. When a wheel comes within N inches of the switch, the switch turns on, then turns off when the wheel leaves. Since all wheels are the same size, and all switches are the same size, I can represent them as a single coordinate X along the track. Switch distances and wheel distances don't change in relation to each other, once set. This is a fairly trivial problem when done through brute force by placing the X coordinates in lists, and traversing them, but I need a way to do so efficiently, because it needs to be extremely accurate, even when the train is moving at high speeds. There's a ton of tutorials on 2D collision detection, but I'm not sure the best way to go about this unique 1D scenario.
