  • Ruby TCPSocket doesn't notice it when server is killed

    I've this ruby code that connects to a TCP server (namely, netcat). It loops 20 times, and sends "ABCD ". If I kill netcat, it takes TWO iterations of the loop for an exception to be triggered. On the first loop after netcat is killed, no exception is triggered, and "send" reports that 5 bytes have been correctly written... Which in the end is not true, since of course the server never received them. Is there a way to work around this issue ?   • Approach for altering Primary Key from GUID to BigInt in SQL Server related tables

    I have two tables with 10-20 million rows that have GUID primary keys and at leat 12 tables related via foreign key. The base tables have 10-20 indexes each. We are moving from GUID to BigInt primary keys. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on an approach. Right now this is the approach I'm pondering: Drop all indexes and fkeys on all the tables involved. Add 'NewPrimaryKey' column to each table Make the key identity on the two base tables Script the data change "update table x, set NewPrimaryKey = y where OldPrimaryKey = z Rename the original primarykey to 'oldprimarykey' Rename the 'NewPrimaryKey' column 'PrimaryKey' Script back all the indexes and fkeys Does this seem like a good approach? Does anyone know of a tool or script that would help with this? TD: Edited per additional information.     I started the source from this progressbar example, and it works fine.     hi, i have webpage in which a webpart contains a Chart control. the problem is chart control is rendered perfectly when i login as central admin. but when i login as another user with contribute permisson following problems occur. when i change webconfig as --- add key="ChartImageHandler" value="storage=file;timeout=20;dir=c:\TempImageFiles\;"--- page is not at all loaded. i get error like YOU ARE NOT AUTHORIZED TO VIEW THIS PAGE. when i change the wbconfig as --- add key="ChartImageHandler" value="storage=memory;timeout=20;URL=/_layouts/Images/MicrosoftChartControls/" --- the page loads fine but image is not rendered. A red mark appears in place of image. I tried all optins got by googling.. any more suggestions/help will be welcomed

I just couldn't complete all of the 20 since it took me time to go through each of these code snippets. My question is: Is this the right way to judge a candidate? If yes, how can I improve over my error detection skills so that I don't need to waste a lot of time in the next interview?     I am trying to get total cpu usage in %. First I should start by saying that "top" will simply not do, as there is a delay between cpu dumps, it requires 2 dumps and several seconds, which hangs my program (I do not want to give it its own thread) next thing what I tried is "ps" which is instant but always gives very high number in total (20+) and when I actually got my cpu to do something it stayed at about 20... Is there any other way that I could get total cpu usage? It does not matter if it is over one second or longer periods of time... Longer periods would be more useful, though.

  • iPhone: How many instances of AVAudioPlayer should I have for multiple sounds?

    So I'm using AvAudioPlayer to play multiple wav files. About 20 different sounds (each about 1 sec long), and you can think of each being played on a button press. Also I don't need them all to play simultaneously, i.e., one plays and you press another button to play another one (which stops the currently played one). What I'm wondering, should I have multiple instances of AVAudioPlayer (20 of them) and then preload the audio files, or should I just use one instance of AvAudioPlayer and each time a button is pressed, initialize the AvAudioPlayer with the sound url (or would this be too slow?)     Am hoping someone can help me out a bit with date ranges... I have a table with 3 fields id, datestart, dateend I need to query this to find out if a pair of dates from a form are conflicting i.e table entry 1, 2010-12-01, 2010-12-09 from the form 2010-12-08, 20-12-15 select id from date_table where '2010-12-02' between datestart and dateend; That returns me the id that I want, but what I would like to do is to take the date range from the form and do a query similar to what I have got that will take both form dates 2010-12-08, 20-12-15 and query the db to ensure that there is no conflicting date ranges in the table. Am sat scratching my head with the problem... TIA

  • Facebook photo additions showing as separate / individual posts

    When posting additional photos to an existing Facebook album, each individual photo is being displayed on the mobile Facebook view as a separate post. Desktop display still groups them (correctly) into 1 album and shows as a single post. For instance, if I add 20 photos to an album, the people who have liked my page will see 20 individual posts in their feed from my account on their mobile devices. This has been happening for about 2 weeks now as far as I've noticed. My upload process has not changed. I should note that I've noticed this behavior by uploading via Lightroom as well as through the direct Facebook interface. Has anyone else experienced this? Did something change that I am not aware of? Thanks.

  • Resizing an image with alpha channel

    I am writing some code to generate images - essentially I have a source image that is large and includes transparent regions. I use GDI+ to open that image and add additional objects. What I want to do next is to save this new image much smaller, so I used the Bitmap constructor that takes a source Image object and a height and width, then saved that. I was expecting the alpha channel to be smoothed like the color channels, but this did not happen -- it did result in a couple of semitransparent pixels, but overall it is very blocky. What gives?
