• How can I enable MySQL's slow query log without restarting MySQL?

  I followed the instructions here: http://crazytoon.com/2007/07/23/mysql-changing-runtime-variables-with-out-restarting-mysql-server/ but that seems to only set the threshold. Do I need to do anything else like set the filepath? According to MySQL's docs If no file_name value is given for --log-slow-queries, the default name is host_name-slow.log. The server creates the file in the data directory unless an absolute path name is given to specify a different directory. Running SHOW VARIABLES doesn't indicate any log file path and I don't see any slow query log file on my server...

So what are the guidelines for good webcrawler 'Etiquette'? Things that spring to mind: Observe Robot.txt instructions Limit the number of simultaneous requests to the same domain Don't follow ad links? Stopping the crawler from clicking on ads - This one is particularly on my mind at the moment... how do i stop my bot from 'clicking' on ads? if it is going straight to the url in the ad is it counted as a click?

• cahoots - zend framework application is not running

  hello everyone, I downloaded cahoots from sourceforge.net. It is a zend framework application. Very nicely done and I must say that it should be a nice tutorial for everyone who is struggling to learn Zend framework. But my problem is that even after reading the instructions this application is still not running. The application just doesn't run at all giving an error message. I have tried my best. no success :( Also I wanted to execute the application as "http://localhost/cahoots" but it runs by this URL "http://localhost/cahoots/public". why is it so.? I am using XAMPP v 1.7.1 with mod-rewrite enabled. Please guide me through the process. Any good tutorials on zend framework with zend tool would be appreciable. I want to learn this framework. • New hire expectations... (Am I being unreasonable?)

  I work for a very small custom software shop. We currently consist me and my boss. My boss is an old FoxPro DOS developer and OOP makes him uncomfortable. He is planning on taking a back seat in the next few years to hopefully enjoy a “partial retirement”. I will be taking over the day to day operations and we are now desperately looking for more help. We tried Monster.com, Dice.com, and others a few years ago when we started our search. We had no success. We have tried outsourcing overseas (total disaster), hiring kids right out of college (mostly a disaster but that’s where I came from), interns (good for them, not so good for us) and hiring laid off “experienced” developers (there was a reason they were laid off). I have heard hiring practices discussed on podcasts, blogs, etc... and have tried a few. The “Fizz Buzz” test was a good one. One kid looked physically ill before he finally gave up. I think my problem is that I have grown so much as a developer since I started here that I now have a high standard. I hear/read very intelligent people podcasts and blogs and I know that there are lots of people out there that can do the job. I don’t want to settle for less than a “good” developer. Perhaps my expectations are unreasonable. I expect any good developer (entry level or experienced) to be billable (at least paying their own wage) in under one month. I expect any good developer to be able to be productive (at least dangerous) in any language or technology with only a few days of research/training. I expect any good developer to be able to take a project from initial customer request to completion with little or no help from others. Am I being unreasonable? What constitutes a valuable developer? What should be expected of an entry level developer? What should be expected of an experienced developer? I realize that everyone is different but there has to be some sort of expectations standard, right? I have been giving the test project below to potential canidates to weed them out. Good idea? Too much? Too little? Please let me know what you think. Thanks. I know this must be a relatively trivial query to write (and therefore to find instructions for), but I can't seem to come up with the right search terms. Searching "SQL recursive queries" has gotten me closest, but I can't quite translate those methods to what I'm trying to do here. I'm trying to learn, so multiple methods are welcome, as is vocabulary I should read up on. Thanks!

  I just created a web application on Sharepoint and followed all the instructions as given. When i created web app, it created the Database on SQL and the new website on IIS. But when i goto browse that website, It gives me the following error - The website declined to show this webpage HTTP 403 Most likely causes: •This website requires you to log in. • Cannot get mysql gem to work in Snow Leopard, unable to setup ruby on rails environment

  I am having some serious problems, however this seems to be a common thing. I have Snow Leopard 10.6.3 and here are my other version info: MySQL mysql Ver 14.14 Distrib 5.1.46, for apple-darwin10.2.0 (i386) using readline 5.1 gem 1.3.6 ruby 1.8.7 (2009-06-08 patchlevel 173) [universal-darwin10.0] My problem is that no matter what I do to try and install the mysql gem, i still get the error every time i do rake db:migrate uninitialized constant MysqlCompat::MysqlRes I have installed the mysql gem based on instructions around the web that say to use export ARCHFLAGS="-arch i386 -arch x86_64" ; sudo gem install --no-rdoc --no-ri mysql -- -v 2.7 --with-mysql-dir=/usr/local --with-mysql-config=/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql_config This DOES work, as it gives this output: Building native extensions. This could take a while... Successfully installed mysql-2.8.1 1 gem installed Any help would be greatly appreciated

  I followed these instructions: http://www.visualwin.com/SelfSSL/ When I type https://localhost/ than it works, but when I try to access it remotely (i set up my router to port forward to localhost), for example https://myip the page does not load. Also, I noticed one other thing. When I access localhost locally then I am asked to enter user/pass, but if I access remotely the I get the following warning: Under Construction The site you were trying to reach does not currently have a default page.   I need the latest Subsonic build or build it by my own. Subsonic project web site shows the latest available version is Subsonic v3.0.0.3 released at July 15, 2009. Questions: Are there any later builds - e.g. maintained by community members? If so, how can I get the latest one? In worst case I'm ready to get the latest source code and try to build it by my own. Are there any instructions for this? Please note, that I'm not interested in almost 1 year old builds - I need a build based on the latest code for tests (LINQ, performance), ideally - compiled for .NET 4.0.

• Google Maps API Key alert problem

  I have a problem with my Google Maps API key. I get an alert saying "This web site needs a different Google Maps API key." When I prees OK to the alert the map are loading and working fine. The same problem is already posted: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1803327/google-maps-api-key-not-working I have tried to request the API key for both "http://www.domain.com" and "http://domain.com" but I still get the alert. When I follow the instructions from their FQA and use alert(window.location.host) I get www.domain.com but the api key generator will only accept the domain if the prefix is http:// Does anyone have a solution to this?

  Twitter client (formerly Tweetie) allows you to define a bookmarklet in Safari that launches the app. I want to know which iPhone API allows you to register the protocol specifier (or whatever it's called) - in this case "tweetie:" - in order for this bookmarklet to work. The instructions can be found here and the bookmarklet itself is below. javascript:window.location='tweetie:'+window.location Clicking the above bookmark is the same as typing in "tweetie:http://google.com" into the address bar. This is obviously supported on the OS/Browser level, much the same as tel: URIs. Am I correct in understanding that developers can add arbitrary URI protocol specifiers as a part of app installation?

• CentOS: revert python version back to original

  Hi all, I installed python 2.6 using the instructions here on CentOS 5.4. However I realized it was a bad move and I need to revert back to 2.4, which was there originally. Can anyone guide me on how to undo what I did here? In particular, I am not sure how to undo this: Configure ld to find your shared libs: $ cat /etc/ld.so.conf.d/opt-python2.5.conf /opt/python2.5/lib (hit enter) (hit ctrl-d to return to shell) $ ldconfig I tried removing the alias and the symlink and even re-aliasing python to /usr/bin/python, but when I try to install an RPM i get this error: error: Failed dependencies: libpython2.4.so.1.0 is needed by ...   What is the best way to layout a large django project? The tutuorials provide simple instructions for setting up apps, models, and views, but there is less information about how apps and projects should be broken down, how much sharing is allowable/necessary between apps in a typical project (obviously that is largely dependent on the project) and how/where general templates should be kept. Does anyone have examples, suggestions, and explanations as to why a certain project layout is better than another? I am particularly interested in the incorporation of large numbers of unit tests (2-5x the size of the actual code base) and string externalization / templates.

  I have a Visual Studio 2003 web service project that I have to upgrade to Visual Studio 2008. After I have run the conversion wizard, I get this message: You have completed the first step in converting your Visual Studio .NET 2003 web project. To complete the conversion, please select your project in the Solution Explorer and choose the 'Convert to Web Application' context menu item. I got this message with another project, which was originally a "web site", rather than an ASP.NET "web application". It made sense to in that case (sort of). Why, however, would I not just want to have this project remain a web service project? Additionally, when I follow the instructions and select "Convert to Web Application" from the context menu, I don't get any feedback that anything has changed. Should it have? If so, what?

• What's the best way to manage a multi-user project on github?

  I'm looking to host a new project on github. This project will be worked on by two coders. One of these coders will also be the project manager who will have overall control over the github repo. I've followed the instructions regarding forking a github project at http://help.github.com/forking/. This all works fine and I'm working on the basis that the main repo is controlled by the lead coder, with the secondary coder working on a fork and submitting pull requests to the lead. A problem arises with this, however, when changes are made to the main branch and not pulled by the secondary coder into their fork. The secondary coder could then make changes to their own fork and submit a pull request to the lead, only for their patches to not match up with the main branch. What's the best way to manage this? I've not committed too much time to git/github, so I'm totally up for checking out other hosted solutions if they're better. Simplicity is the key!

• Trouble using SFML with GCC and OS X

  I've been trying to get SFML working for a while now and I've been trying to get it working using GCC. I'm on OS X by the way. I followed the standard Linux instructions and using the Linux 64-bit download however when it comes to compiling... g++ -o testing main.cpp -lsfml-system This happens: main.cpp: In function ‘int main()’: main.cpp:7: error: ‘class sf::Clock’ has no member named ‘GetElapsedTime’ main.cpp:9: error: ‘class sf::Clock’ has no member named ‘GetElapsedTime’ main.cpp:10: error: ‘Sleep’ is not a member of ‘sf’ So I thought it could be due to not using includes, so I changed my gcc compile command to: g++ -o testing main.cpp -I ~/SFML-1.6/include/ -lsfml-system and now I'm getting this error: ld: warning: ignoring file /usr/local/lib/libsfml-system.so, file was built for unsupported file format which is not the architecture being linked (x86_64) Undefined symbols for architecture x86_64: "sf::Clock::Clock()", referenced from: _main in ccZEiB7b.o "sf::Clock::GetElapsedTime() const", referenced from: _main in ccZEiB7b.o "sf::Sleep(float)", referenced from: _main in ccZEiB7b.o ld: symbol(s) not found for architecture x86_64 collect2: ld returned 1 exit status** And I have no idea what to do to fix it.

• How can I debug this web service http handler?

  Hello everyone, I am building a Httphandler following these instructions here It manipulates HTTP POST and HTTP GET. I have a client with two buttons two POST and GET. After i've tested and happy everythings working I move it from localhost to IIS. Now when I do this I get an exception in the POST handler code. How on earth can I debug this code line by line? I managed to do this awhile ago, I thought it was by attaching to process but I can't work it out. I can emulate GET just by typing address in browser, post im not sure about. I've tried telnetting and sending it from there but haven't had any luck.

• JSF and Ajax4JSF on WebSphere 6.1 --> Problem with Form Submission

  Has anyone setup JSF1.1 with Ajax4JSF on websphere 6.1 ? I followed the instructions as mentioned in the developer guide . The problem that I am facing is that once I use a4j:support on any of my h:inputText item, the form values are not getting set in the backing bean on the submission of the form. I do have <h:messages> tag present just above the form so that all the problems should be reported there but I do not see any error message once I submit the form. But I do see that the values are not getting set. I need to find the solution as early as possible otherwise I probably have to throw the ajax4jsf framework and write javascripts instead :(

I can write any function name ,even not existing (http://localhost/sandboxWidget/Galleries.svc?blabla) ,but the message is same .... I'm new to Wcf ,but what looks me strange is that ,the same application was working in my job environment ,but not on my home PC .... I have same VS2008,NET3.5 with service pack 1

  Hey everyone, I've been working for some time on (Java) Bytecode, however, it had never occurred to me to ask why are some instructions typed? I understand that in an ADD operation, we need to distinguish between an integer addition and a FP addition (that's why we have IADD and FADD). However, why do we need to distinguish between ISTORE and FSTORE? They both involve the exact same operation, which is moving 32 bits from the stack to a local variable position? The only answer I can think of is for type-safety, to prevent this: (ILOAD, ILOAD, FADD). However, I believe that type-safety is already enforced at the Java language level. OK, the Class file format is not directly coupled with Java, so is this a way to enforce type-safety for languages that do not support it? Any thought? Thank you.

• Fluxbox compiling problems after making a change.

I assume that those instructions are perhaps no longer valid for the current git version. In the void FluxboxWindow::setupWindow() function I can see no references to CommandRef or frame. I would like to know if it is possible that I could work out where they should go in that function, with only having a limited knowledge? I am still trying to learn programming and don't know enough just yet to work out where they should go. I assume I can't just paste in the suggested lines anywhere in that function, but why not? I can paste the source if needed, but I am unsure where to paste to.
