• Non-blocking MySQL updates with java?

  For a multiplayer game I'm working on I'd like to record events to the mysql database without blocking the game update thread so that if the database is busy or a table is locked the game doesn't stop running while it waits for a write. What's the best way to accomplish this? I'm using c3p0 to manage the database connection pool. My best idea so far is to add query update strings to a synchronized list with an independent thread checking the list every 100ms and executing the queries it finds there.

  hi folks, i'm using ip*works for download newsgroup message and insert them into a database... ipworks is "comfortable" to use because it automatically split nntp data return into different object (or variable). So i've "author" "date" "topic" "messagge" already splitted to my use. And after that (in the same window) I have two fields: "Location" and "Repositories". What these two parameters mean? I know URL where the common code is stored. Should I specify this URL in the "repositories" field?

• Greasemonkey - jQuery not loading

  Hi, I tried to load a copy of jQuery 1.3.2 from jquery.com (because it seems 1.4.0+ aren't treated too well by GM) using @require. Even after I uninstall and reinstall the script, GM does not copy jquery-1.3.2.js to my gm_scripts folder like it should. Tried this almost 10 times today. Also, when I click on "Manage Scripts", it shows my script as running on * even though I've added @include for http://www.catholicon.in/* I'm using the latest updates on both FF 3.6 and GM 0.8 Thanks

• Can't sign into linkedin when using a QT4 (WebKit-based) browser?

  I started using the lightweight QT4 browser for some of the time on my Mac. Most simple websites, and even quite a few AJAX-heavy web apps, work for me flawlessly, including gmail (!) However, with LinkedIn, I can't even manage to sign in. Even when I change the useragent to one of a regular browser, it keeps kicking me out. Any ideas what could be wrong and for some workaround?   Isn't port forwarding managed by the router? Like, I've googled up some software applications that seem to port forward with great success, but it technically seems to be impossible. The packet must first go to the router. The router must forward it to the correct computer based on port forwarding rules. So how can a software application manage port forwarding if the packet must GO to the computer running this software application in the first place, meaning that port forwarding already is successful in the first place?

• Javascript (and HTML rendering) engine without a GUI for automation?

  Are there any libraries or frameworks that provide the functionality of a browser, but do not need to actually render physically onto the screen? I want to automate navigation on web pages (Mechanize does this, for example), but I want the full browser experience, including Javascript. Thus, I'd like to have a virtual browser of some sort, that I can use to "click on links" programmatically, have DOM elements and JS scripts render within it, and manipulate these elements. Solution preferably in Python, but I can manage others.
