  • How to throttle bandwidth speed from VPS

    I was wondering if you can throttle/boost the download speed from my VPS to me, because now and often I download a database which is quite big, typically 5-7GB. My side is quite slow (typically I have max speeds of 100Kb/s) so I was wondering if it's possible to throttle the bandwidth speed from my server to me that it could make the download much faster. If this is possible, how can I do this? My server is running Ubuntu 11.04 with a 100Mbps line.

  • Email client wont connect to SMTP Authentication server

    Im having trouble installing SMTH Auth for my ubuntu email server. I have followed ubuntu own guide for SMTH AUT (https://help.ubuntu.com/14.04/serverguide/postfix.html). But my email client thunderbird is giving this error " lost connection to SMTP-client 127.0.0.1." I cant add new users to thundbird either because of this connection problem. Do i have to alter any setting on my Thunderbird perhaps since ? I did try to make thunderbird use SSL for imap as well but that neither works. I restarted postfix and dovecot to find errors but both run just fine. Prior to SMTP auth changes thunderbird could connect just fine to my server and send mails. This is my main.cf file in postfix. Sadly, data transfer speeds are at max 3 MB/sec per connection which works out slow for file transfers, especially when transferring large files. I'm using Windows filesharing and the server is a Windows Server 2008 (2 Ghz CPU, 1 GB RAM) and the client PCs mostly running Windows 7. How can I detect bottlenecks in my network and improve file sharing speed within the network?

    We recently upgraded our production boxes to Windows 2008 from Windows 2003 servers. Everything works fine except the event logging. We log at max 32000 bytes of data for each message On 2008 servers, event logging fails if number of characters is greater than 31885. Is this new limit on Windows 2008 R2 servers? Any help appreciated. On Win 2003 servers, I am able to log 32000 bytes of data for each log entry.

    Hi I've just build a 64bit Windows 7 PC but am unhappy with the piddly performance of the linksys USB wireless dingle I've used. Can anyone suggest a good PCIe alternative that will be stronger for connection and maybe faster. I dont see why my desktop should show a weaker performance on wireless than my laptop when its sat next to it or even my Palm Pre for that matter. any thoughts?     Hey! I have 3 monitors, 2 24 inch and one 22 inch. The max resolution of the 24 inch monitors is 1920 x 1080 and the 22 is a bit less (can't remember right now).     Windows Vista introduced ReadyBoost which lets you use a Flash drive as a third (after RAM and HD) type of memory. It occurred to me that I could boost peformance on an old PC here w/ Win XP (32 bit, max'd at 4GB RAM) by putting it's swap file (page file) on a flash drive. (Now, before anyone comments: apparently Flash drives (10-30MB/s transfer rates) are slower than HDD (100+ MB/s) (I'm asking that as a separate question on this forum).

Can someone help me correct this code to use try_files or rewrite?

    Can anyone point to a document that describes how to print from a Max OS 10.5.8 to an HP Photosmart C3180 series print connected to Windows 7. I can’t get anything but nonsense to print. I was able to do this with Windows XP, could not do it with Vista and am now hopping to get it done with System 7. HP has been no help at all. Apparently nobody who works for them knows anything about both computers.
