• Intel GMA 4500M screen resolution problem

  I was previously running 10.10 on my Acer Aspire laptop. It has Intel GMA 4500M integrated graphics and worked just fine. Great display, sharp, crisp, etc. I decided to do a fresh install of 11.10 Oneiric and now am having problems. Originally I was getting the dreaded blank screen where the brightness was turned almost completely off. Some searching pulled up several easy fixes (editing GRUB). Right now I am still having one issue. The screen resolution is stuck at a max of 1024x768 giving me a distorted screen. Is there any way to fix this issue? I've Googled, searched Ask Ubuntu and also spent time on the forums looking for a solution. Thus far, nothing. Apparently, was and still is a concern in Natty? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Are Intel HD 4000 graphics supported on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS?

  I have an intel Core i7-3700 system with Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics with a dual monitor setup (1 connected via VGA, the other via DVI) on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64bit. I'm trying to get my monitors correctly detected. Right now, in only 1 unknown monitor is detected with a max resolution of 1280x1024, which is lower than my main monitor connected to DVI. Also, the desktop is mirrored rather than extended. I've previously managed to get a Core i5-2400 system with Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics with the same dual monitor setup and Ubuntu 10.04 LTS 64bit to work using the glasen ppa drivers, but this time, after installing them following the instructions How do I install the Intel HD 3000 video driver? but it doesn't seem to work. Does the Intel HD 4000 require a different driver from the 3000? If so, where can I get it?

• Textures selectively not applying in Unity

  On certain imported objects (fbx) in Unity, upon applying a material, only the base colour of the material is applied, with none of the tiled texture showing. This isn't universal; on a test model only some submeshes didn't show the texture, while some did. I have tried every combination of import/calculate normals/tangents to no avail. FYI I'm not exactly experienced with the software or gamedev in general; this is to make a small static scene with 3-4 objects max. One model tested was created in 3DSMax, the other in Blender. I've had this happen on every export from Blender, but only some submeshes from the 3DSMax model (internet sourced to test the problem)

• Need help with gimp 2.8 (cpu not used to full capacity) [closed]

  I know this isn't the right place to ask this question but maybe some one here can point me out to were I should place this question (or help me fix it :)). Since I updated Gimp to 2.8 (and let me start by saying how happy I am with the new gimp) I have notice that Gimp only uses 35% max of my CPU power. I have tried changing settings, assigning only one CPU to Gimp (both in gimp preference and in windblows task manager). No matter what settings I choose it only uses 35% of the cpu. If I assign just one Core to it then Gimp will use 100% of that core (which is about 35% of a three core processor I have. Any thoughts? I am using Windblows 7 64 bit, gimp 2.8.0, AMD a6-3500 cpu. I also use Ubuntu (am going to see if it works the same there). Any help would be great.

But it's a very time-inefficient approach, since time increases exponentially, due to the large test cases. What is the most pragmatic approach to the problem, and to such problems in general?

  Ok, so I am making a first person shooter game and I am currently working on movement that looks and feels good. I want to incorporate acceleration based movement for the player so that he has to accelerate to max speed and decelerate to minimum speed. Acceleration will happen when you have the key pressed and deceleration will happen when you let go of that key. The problem is that there are some instances where you switch from moving forward to moving backward where no deceleration is needed because you could potentially be moving at double speed in the reverse if you did. Does anyone have a good implementation of how to accomplish acceleration based movement that works well?

• Core i7 with 4GB - go 64 bit or stay 32bit..?

  I have a Core i7 laptop with 4gb ram. In windows, the disadvantage of using the 32bit OS would be that a single app could not use more than 2gb of ram (+ the 2gb shared kernel-space memory) except when setting a boot switch which reduces the amount of shared kernel memory, then it's 3GB max per app. What disadvantages/limitations would I have in Ubuntu for sticking to the 32bit OS? (If any?) - As I only have 4GB of ram, I can't see why I need to use the 64bit version?

The thing is, I want the user to use an item if he / she gains an item. The problem is, I do not know what syntax should I use to determine if the user has an item and use that item. • How to draw unlimited FPS on Mac OS X with OpenGL?

  I d'like to draw as many frames as possible with OpenGL on Mac OS X to measure the performance on different scenes. What I've tried so far: Using a CVDisplayLink that has NSOpenGLCPSwapInterval set to 0, so it does not sync with the Display. But with that it's still stuck at max 60FPS Using normal -drawRect: with a timer that fires 1/1000sec and calls -setNeedsDisplay: Still not more than 60FPS Same as 2. but I call -display in the timer callback. With that I get the FPS above 60, but it still stops at 100-110 FPS. Although the frame rate should easily be at 10times more. Andy idea how I can really draw as many frames as possible?

• Framework for interaction between web-page and server-side script

  I want to make a web-page that will have several controls elements, among which there are elements like check-boxes, radio-buttons, "range selectors" (one can specify the min and max value, like it is done when you select range for prices in the online markets). The new values shall be sent to the "server-side", once changed (without any Submit buttons etc), and the "server-side" can return something (one or more numbers, etc). Does anyone know a good ajax-like framework that allows (with minimal adaptation / changes) to make such solution in an easy way? It will be good if the server-side of existing solution will be in Perl (not a big deal, but I know it much better than PHP or something else). Set of controls might change and depend on other parameter, so adding one extra element should not cause rewriting the whole thing. P.S.: I haven't working in this area for quite a while, so not aware of existing solutions in this area, and don't want to invent the wheel and write everything from scratch for something that already exist (at least, I hope so). • YouSendIt Alternative?

  Looking for a reasonably priced alternative to YouSendIt's exorbitant pricing for an embedded, unbranded (i.e. no "Uploads by SomeCompany" or at the very least, discrete, subtle co-branding) file upload solution for my client's print shop Website. To do what we want to do with YouSendIt, we're looking at a corporate account of $995 USD plus $29.99 USD monthly fee, that is only sold pro-rated, so you have to buy the entire year's worth. To me, this is just unacceptable considering the commodity pricing of storage and bandwidth nowadays. For data, we're looking at roughly 10MB per upload, with perhaps 250-1000 uploads per month, with transient data storage of no more than 30 days (and more than likely 1-2 business days) for a total of 10 GB transfer (upload) and 10 GB transfer (download, to the print shop) at the very max each month. Any ideas? Everything I've found through searching seems to be geared more towards personal file sharing and not for embedding into Websites. Thanks

• Full brightness and keyboard backligh at boot

  I own an Asus N56VZ, and each time I start Ubuntu (13.10 and prior versions) my screen brightness and keyboard backlights reset their values to the max. Ubuntu doesn't save my settings on reboot. I was wondering if someone could help me with this? It is horrible when, at night, I turn on my computer - it is like looking directly to the sun, and it hurts my eyes. I tried googling and none of the pages I found actually helped. I think my issue might be grub-related. I have a dual-boot with Windows 8.1, so before I start my computer I see grub to choose my operating system. My screen starts at full brightness as soon as I reach grub. Maybe he is making the OS forget about my last values, overriding it with its? Does someone knows how to solve this? Thanks in advance :) PS: I'm using bumblebee with Nvidia driver 304, but this issue existed before I installed it.

• Big delay to open web pages on Ubuntu 11.10; also slow torrent client speed

  The keywords for my issue are too common among other issues, so, I couldn't find anything that could answer me: why will it take around 30+ seconds for any of my browsers to open a page? happens even with google.com... with both Firefox and Chromium. This does not happen while I use Windows, from exactly the same point at my house (I've got enough wi-fi signal here for sure). Also, the standard torrent client won't hit the max download speed... I can hit 1 Mb/s with utorrent on Windows, and can't go over 300 kbps here. I tried changing the program settings, no results. Please help me. I REALLY don't wanna go back to Windows. Thanks in advance, I admire this community, and I'm sorry that I couldn't find something that could help me. I already solved a lot of issues without asking, but couldn't do it this time.

• Moving two objects proportionally

  I'm trying to move two objects away from each other at a proportional distance, but on different scales. I'm not quite sure how to do this. Object A can go from position 0.1 to 1. Object B has no limits. If object B is decreasing, then Object A should be decreasing at rate R. Likewise, if Object B is increasing, then Object A increases at rate R. How can I tie these two Object positions together so that in an update loop, they automatically update their positions? I tried using: ObjA.Pos += 0.001f * ObjB.VelocityY; //0.001f is the rate This works but there's an error each time it runs. ObjA starts off at its max position 1 but then the next time it will stop at 0.97, 0.94, 0.91 etc.. This is due to the 0.001f rate I put in. Is there a way to control the rate, yet not end up with the rounding error?

• Site loads Extremely slowly over HTTPS; loads perfectly over HTTP - Sudden and new issue

  My business' website suddenly started loading extremely slowly over HTTPS last night and continues through today. The facts: Page loadtime via HTTPS - 2 minutes +, HTTP - 3 seconds max. NO updates were done on any site files in the past 2 weeks. This is on Shared Hosting HTTPS has worked perfectly over the past 9 months then suddenly failed yesterday. Hosting company and SSL issuer say there are no problems on their end. - Searches for others having similar issues return no results, it appears to be just me... Site is primarily run via php/mysql Currently attempted troubleshooting: Tried all major browsers and different versions - same result. Tried 2 separate ISPs - same result. Tried proxies - same result. Tried 3 separate computers - same result. I'm basically at a total loss here. Does anyone know what could cause such a thing to happen? Please help guide troubleshooting.

• nVidia FX5200 Can't set resolution upper than 800x600

  When I install nVidia drivers from terminal with this command: sudo apt-get install nvidia-current ... and I reboot, I get the max. resolution 800x600. I added new mode successfully with xrandr, but my display is 480p. My display is connected to my PC with HDMI and in Windows I was have VGA resolution on HDMI but after I installed in Ubuntu the drivers, the resolution is 480p.How to fix that? And can I change the 420p to 720p or 1080i ? Because my display have option "HDMI Full PC mode" which is good because I can see my display fully, but the Full PC mode is not supported for 480p.   In one of my projects users are allowed to edit the same file. It is group work and max number of users in group is 4. It is rare that they will be editing at the same time but there is possibility of it. I am using ckeditor which displays the content. how I can lock the content while it is being edited? For the above case what will happen if one users open the content for editing and then never saves and leave window open. Is it possible to save the content, release the lock for editing by another users? If first user comes back to desk they should see the message that "content has been changed, please refresh". I am using php, mysql. Thanks
