  • Hibernate criteria query to match against all child collection elements

    - by Andrew Harrison
Hi, This question is very similar to link text but the responses were minimal to that question. I have a parent class with a Set of child entities. The child entities are just a wrapper for a string and live in a different table to the parent entity. I want to have a criteria query that returns the parent entities when all the members of the set of child entities return true to a condition. This condition is matching against one of a list of strings. Here's where I am: Criteria c = criteria(); Criteria ands = c.createCriteria("ands"); Disjunction dis = Restrictions.disjunction(); for (String value : values) { dis.add(Restrictions.like("value", "%" + value + "%")); } ands.add(dis); return list(c); "ands" is the set of entities with a "value" field that is a string. "criteria()" creates a criteria for the parent class. "list()" just calls criteria.list(); This is just matching against any of the elements, rather than all. Hope this makes sense. Any help much appreciated.

  • Most mind-blowing C# hack you’ve ever seen?

    - by sblom
In the same spirit as the "Hidden features of X?" series, what are the most mind-blowingly well-executed "I didn't even think the language could do that!" hacks that you've ever seen in C#. For example, a favorite of mine from a while ago is a full ray tracer implemented in a single (complex) LINQ statement. • How to fix the size of the Hashtable and find the whether it has fix size or not?

    - by Vijjendra
Hi All, I am trying to fix the size of the Hashtable with following code. Hashtable hashtable = new Hashtable(2); //Add elements in the Hashtable hashtable.Add("A", "Vijendra"); hashtable.Add("B", "Singh"); hashtable.Add("C", "Shakya"); hashtable.Add("D", "Delhi"); hashtable.Add("E", "Singh"); hashtable.Add("F", "Shakya"); hashtable.Add("G", "Delhi"); hashtable.Add("H", "Singh"); hashtable.Add("I", "Shakya"); hashtable.Add("J", "Delhi"); I have fix the size of this Hashtable is 2 but I can add more than 2 elements in this, why this happen, I am doing somthing wrong? I have tried to find out is this Hashtable have fix size of not with hashtable.IsFixedSize, it always returns false Please tell me where I am wrong, or there is another way..

  • VisualStudio 2010 Settings Page - Collection Settings

    - by Ed Eichman
I have a list of Filemaker database names Each DB name has a list of field/attribute pairs associated with it I have a windows form application in C# 4.0 (vs2010) that wants to use the above data I would like to maintain the list either in the Visual Studio settings page, or in one of the standard visual studio settings files using the standard .NET settings calls I would like to avoid writing my own custom settings, xml, xds (to avoid the "Could not find schema information for the element/attribute " errors) I just have a slightly complicated INI file! I don't want to complicate my life! Do any easy solutions exist? Unless someone has a brighter idea, I am simply going to write string settings with names that indicate it's a FM DB (e.g. "fmdbAddresses"), and values that concat my field/attribute pairs (e.g. "gUserResult=skipField|gAddressID=convertToInt|gAddressID=uniqueIx")

  • Where to start on creating finger swipe navigation in an collection of items

    - by Thomas Stock
Lets say I want to make a control to select any integer number by dragging on a "bar" with numbers: (156 is selected) Mousedown on "159" and dragging towards the left and then doing mouseup changes the control to this: (160 is selected) I've been experimenting for the past 3 hours but I'm inexperienced in Silverlight so I'm having problems getting started. My current guess is I should seperate this into 2 steps: Step 1: Build this control without swiping behavior. Just 2 buttons to go up a number or go down a number Step 2: Replace the buttons by handling mouse events. With my limited knowledge I think I would manage building a crappy control that does this, with very messy xaml and c# and lots of headaches when trying to apply styling and fancy state transitions, but I was hoping some xaml wizards could get me started with the basic approach? Edit: This is an implementation of what I'm trying to achieve in Silverlight: Iphone's datepicker:

  • (C#) iterate over read-only private collection member

    - by DGH
I have a class which has two HashSet collections as private members. Other classes in my code would like to be able to iterate over those HashSets and read their contents. I don't want to write a standard getter because another class could still do something like myClass.getHashSet().Clear(); Is there any other way to expose the elements of my HashSets to iteration without exposing the reference to the HashSet itself? I'd love to be able to do this in a way that is compatible with for-each loops.

  • BlackBerry/J2ME - SAX parse collection of objects with attributes

    - by Changqi Guo
I have a problem with using the SAX parser to parse a XML file. It is a complex XML file, it is like the following. <Objects> <Object no="1"> <field name="PID">ilives:87877</field> <field name="dc.coverage">Charlottetown</field> <field name="fgs.ownerId">fedoraAdmin</field> </Object> <Object no="2">...... • populating object collection property with Linq

    - by Benjamin Ortuzar
    I have an XML structure that has many doc nodes, and each node may have zero or more extract paragraphs (paras). <doc> <docitem>3</docitem> <docid>129826</docid> <doctitle>sample title</doctitle> <docdatetime>2009-07-03T16:59:00</docdatetime> <collectdatetime>2009-07-03T16:59:23</collectdatetime> <summary> <summarytext>sample summary</summarytext> </summary> <paras> <paraitemcount>2</paraitemcount> <para> <paraitem>1</paraitem> <paratext>sample text 1</paratext> </para> <para> <paraitem>2</paraitem> <paratext>sample text 2</paratext> </para> </paras> </doc> <doc> ... </doc> I also has some Linq code to populate some Document objects: List<Document> documentsList = (from doc in xmlDocument.Descendants("doc") select new Document { DocId = doc.Element("docid").Value, DocTitle = doc.Element("doctitle").Value, DocDateTime = DateTime.Parse(doc.Element("docdate").Value), DocSummary = doc.Element("summary").Value, DocParas = "" ///missing code to populate List<string> } ).ToList<Document>(); Is it possible add all the paras nodes into the Document.DocParas List<string> using Linq and Xpath, or should I do this task in a different way? • WebBrowser control won't display an https site that IE8 on the same PC will

    - by Velika
In IE8, I get the follow warning, but if I choose to continue the site displays properly. There is a problem with this website's security certificate. The security certificate presented by this website was issued for a different website's address. Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept any data you send to the server. We recommend that you close this webpage and do not continue to this website. Click here to close this webpage. Continue to this website (not recommended). More information In the WebBrowser control, I get this at first: Navigation to the webpage was canceled What you can try: Refresh the page. When I hit the refresh teh page, this time, I get the same wanting as I originally get in IE8, but when I click "Continue to this website (not recommended)", the page refresh again, displaying the same warning. What can I do to get the site to display in the WebBrowser control as it does in IE8. I would've thought that the control would be using the same core logic and therefore expected the same result.

  • GC.AddMemoryPressure

    - by Steve Sheldon
I am writing an application in C# that makes use of a 3rd party COM DLL, this dll creates a lot of resources (like bitmaps, video, data structures) in unmanaged memory. While digging around I came across the following call for the Garbage Collector: GC.AddMemoryPressure(long long bytesAllocated) It is documented in MSDN here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.gc.addmemorypressure.aspx This sounds like something I should be calling since this external dll is createing a lot of resources the CLR is unaware of. I guess I have two questions... How do I know how much memory pressure to add when the dll is 3rd party and it's not possible for me to know exactly how much memory this dll is allocating. How important is it to do this?

  • How can I simulate this application hang scenario?

    - by Pwninstein
I have a Windows Forms app that itself launches different threads to do different kinds of work. Occasionally, ALL threads (including the UI thread) become frozen, and my app becomes unresponsive. I've decided it may be a Garbage Collector-related issue, as the GC will freeze all managed threads temporarily. To verify that just managed threads are frozen, I spin up an unmanaged one that writes to a "heartbeat" file with a timestamp every second, and it is not affected (i.e. it still runs): public delegate void ThreadProc(); [DllImport("UnmanagedTest.dll", EntryPoint = "MyUnmanagedFunction")] public static extern void MyUnmanagedFunction(); [DllImport("kernel32")] public static extern IntPtr CreateThread( IntPtr lpThreadAttributes, uint dwStackSize, IntPtr lpStartAddress, IntPtr lpParameter, uint dwCreationFlags, out uint dwThreadId); uint threadId; ThreadProc proc = new ThreadProc(MyUnmanagedFunction); IntPtr functionPointer = Marshal.GetFunctionPointerForDelegate(proc); IntPtr threadHandle = CreateThread(IntPtr.Zero, 0, functionPointer, IntPtr.Zero, 0, out threadId); My Question is: how can I simulate this situation, where all managed threads are suspended but unmanaged ones keep on spinning? My first stab: private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { Thread t = new Thread(new ThreadStart(delegate { new Hanger(); GC.Collect(2, GCCollectionMode.Forced); })); t.Start(); } class Hanger{ private int[] m_Integers = new int[10000000]; public Hanger() { } ~Hanger() { Console.WriteLine("About to hang..."); //This doesn't reproduce the desired behavior //while (true) ; //Neither does this //Thread.Sleep(System.Threading.Timeout.Infinite); } } Thanks in advance!!

  • How does heap compaction work quickly?

    - by Mason Wheeler
They say that compacting garbage collectors are faster than traditional memory management because they only have to collect live objects, and by rearranging them in memory so everything's in one contiguous block, you end up with no heap fragmentation. But how can that be done quickly? It seems to me that that's equivalent to the bin-packing problem, which is NP-hard and can't be completed in a reasonable amount of time on a large dataset within the current limits of our knowledge about computation. What am I missing?

  • IoC and dataContext disposing in asp.net mvc 2 application

Bind<DomainModel.Entities.db>().ToSelf().InRequestScope().WithConstructorArgument("connection", "Data Source=lims;Initial Catalog=nanocrm;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=***;Password=***"); } } } In this case if somewhere it is the class, defined like: public class UserRepository : IUserRepository { private db dataContext; private IUserGroupRepository userGroupRepository; public UserRepository(db dataContext, IUserGroupRepository userGroupRepository) { this.dataContext = dataContext; this.userGroupRepository = userGroupRepository; } } then the dataContext instance is created (if no one was created in this request scope) by Ninject. So the trouble now is - where to invoke dataContext method .Dispose()?

  • Why don't purely functional languages use reference counting?

    - by Zifre
In purely functional languages, data is immutable. With reference counting, creating a reference cycle requires changing already created data. It seems like purely functional languages could use reference counting without worrying about the possibility of cycles. Am is right? If so, why don't they? I understand that reference counting is slower than GC in many cases, but at least it reduces pause times. It would be nice to have the option to use reference counting in cases where pause times are bad.

  • free() on stack memory

    - by vidicon
I'm supporting some c code on Solaris, and I've seen something weird at least I think it is: char new_login[64]; ... strcpy(new_login, (char *)login); ... free(new_login); My understanding is that since the variable is a local array the memory comes from the stack and does not need to be freed, and moreover since no malloc/calloc/realloc was used the behaviour is undefined. This is a real-time system so I think it is a waste of cycles. Am I missing something obvious?

  • Java: How do you really force a GC using JVMTI's ForceGargabeCollection?

    - by WizardOfOdds
I'm not looking for the usual "you can only hint the GC in Java using System.gc()" answers, this is not at all what this question is about. My questions is not subjective and is based on a reality: GC can be forced in Java for a fact. A lot of programs that we use daily do it: IntelliJ IDEA, NetBeans, VisualVM. They all can force GC to happen. How is it done? I take it they're all using JVMTI and more specifically the ForceGarbabeCollection (notice the "Force") but how can I try it for myself? http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/platform/jvmti/jvmti.html#ForceGarbageCollection Also note that this question is not about "why" I'd want to do this: the "why" may be "curiosity" or "we're writing a program similar to VisualVM", etc. The question is really "how do you force a GC using JVMTI's ForceGarbageCollection"? Does the JVM needs to be launched with any special parameters? Is any JNI required? If so, what code exactly? Does it only work on Sun VMs? Any complete and compilable example would be most welcome.

  • Generic collection as a Java method argument

  • Does GC guarantee that cleared References are enqueued to ReferenceQueue in topological order?

    - by Dimitris Andreou
Say there are two objects, A and B, and there is a pointer A.x --> B, and we create, say, WeakReferences to both A and B, with an associated ReferenceQueue. Assume that both A and B become unreachable. Intuitively B cannot be considered unreachable before A is. In such a case, do we somehow get a guarantee that the respective references will be enqueued in the intuitive (topological when there are no cycles) order in the ReferenceQueue? I.e. ref(A) before ref(B). I don't know - what if the GC marked a bunch of objects as unreachable, and then enqueued them in no particular order? I was reviewing Finalizer.java of guava, seeing this snippet: private void cleanUp(Reference<?> reference) throws ShutDown { ... if (reference == frqReference) { /* * The client no longer has a reference to the * FinalizableReferenceQueue. We can stop. */ throw new ShutDown(); } frqReference is a PhantomReference to the used ReferenceQueue, so if this is GC'ed, no Finalizable{Weak, Soft, Phantom}References can be alive, since they reference the queue. So they have to be GC'ed before the queue itself can be GC'ed - but still, do we get the guarantee that these references will be enqueued to the ReferenceQueue at the order they get "garbage collected" (as if they get GC'ed one by one)? The code implies that there is some kind of guarantee, otherwise unprocessed references could theoretically remain in the queue. Thanks

  • Does Marshal.ReleaseComObject call the garbage collector ?

    - by Shimrod
Hi, I was asked this question today by a colleague, and couldn't find any clue on the Internet... Can someone tell me if calling Marshall.ReleaseComObject()directly calls the garbage collector ? As I understand it, it only removes COM references, and then the G.C. cleans memory on its next pass, but I can be mistaken... Thanks in advance for your help!

  • How GC collects resources in a static member in C#?

    - by carter-boater
Dear all, I have a piece of code like this: Class Program { static StreamReader sr = null; static int var=0; static Program() { sr = new StreamReader("input.txt") } ~Program() { sr.Dispose(); } static void main(string args[]) { //do something with input here } } This may not be a good practice, but I just want to use this example to ask how the deconstructor and GC works. My question is: Will ~Program() get called at a non-determined time or it won't be called at all in this case. If the deconstructor won't get called, then how GC collect the unmanaged resources and managed resources. Thank you very much!

  • Binding ListBox to List (Collection) in XAML

    - by david2tm
Hello, I'm learning WPF, so I'm kind of n00b in this. I saw some examples about how to do what I want to do, but nothing exactly... The question: I want to bind List to ListBox. I want to do it in XAML, w/o coding in code behind. How can I achieve that? Right now I do it that way: <!-- XAML --> <ListBox x:Name="FileList"> <ListBox.ItemTemplate> <DataTemplate> <Label Content="{Binding Path=.}"/> </DataTemplate> </ListBox.ItemTemplate> </ListBox> // Code behind public MainWindow() { // ... files = new List<string>(); FileList.ItemsSource = files; } private void FolderBrowser_TextChanged(object sender, RoutedEventArgs e) { string folder = FolderBrowser.Text; files.Clear(); files.AddRange(Directory.GetFiles(folder, "*.txt", SearchOption.AllDirectories)); FileList.Items.Refresh(); } But I want to get rid of FileList.ItemsSource = files; and FileList.Items.Refresh(); in C# code. Thanks
