• Where are the snapshot files?

  Hey guys, The documentation states that the snapshots are persisted to S3 for persistence... I wanted to leverage that and create a instance of my server in a different region (my original server is in APAC, I wanted to create an instance in US-East.) I have logged into my account via CloudBerry S3, but cannot see any files in the S3 account (sorry, I am beginner in AWS.) Also, switching over to US-East removes the snapshot from view... so how can I create another instance using the same EBS volume in a different region? Why can't I see the snapshot files in my S3?   I wanted to enable custom shortcuts in my Firefox extension. The idea is that the user just focuses on a textbox, presses key combination, and it's shown in the textbox and saved to a preference. However, I couldn't get it to work. • Script Speed vs Memory Usage

  I am working on an image generation script in PHP and have gotten it working two ways. One way is slow but uses a limited amount of memory, the second is much faster, but uses 6x the memory . There is no leakage in either script (as far as I can tell). In a limited benchmark, here is how they performed: -------------------------------------------- METHOD | TOTAL TIME | PEAK MEMORY | IMAGES -------------------------------------------- One | 65.626 | 540,036 | 200 Two | 20.207 | 3,269,600 | 200 -------------------------------------------- And here is the average of the previous numbers (if you don't want to do your own math): -------------------------------------------- METHOD | TOTAL TIME | PEAK MEMORY | IMAGES -------------------------------------------- One | 0.328 | 540,036 | 1 Two | 0.101 | 3,269,600 | 1 -------------------------------------------- Which method should I use and why? I anticipate this being used by a high volume of users, with each user making 10-20 requests to this script during a normal visit. I am leaning toward the faster method because though it uses more memory, it is for a 1/3 of the time and would reduce the number of concurrent requests.

Of course, i will not publish all this pages at the same time, but i'm looking for infos on how much pages should i start with without going to the sandbox. For example, could i start with a 50 pages website or is it too much ? Then, have you an idea (i know there's no precises rules here) what's the frenquency / volume of pages i could add later ? • Exploring search options for PHP

  I have innoDB table using numerous foreign keys, but we just want to look up some basic info out of it. I've done some research but still lost. 1) How can I tell if my host has Sphinx installed already? I don't see it as an option for table storage method (i.e. innodb, myisam). 2) Zend_Search_Lucene, responsive enough for AJAX functionality of millions of records? 3) Mirror my innoDB with a myisam? Make every innodb transaction end with a write to the myisam, then use 1:1 lookups? How would I do this automagically? This should make MyISAM ACID-compliant and free(er) from corruption no? 4) PostgreSQL fulltext queries don't even look like SQL to me wtf, I don't have time to learn a new SQL syntax I need noob options 5) ???????????????????? This is high volume site on a decently-equipped VPS Thanks very much for any ideas.

• How to organize XIB files with many overlapping elements?

  I have some XIB files which are very difficult to edit because many of the subviews overlap each other completely. For example, if I position a popup volume slider where it will pop up, it covers some UILabels which become impossible to click. My only chance to be able to edit them is to double-click on them in the Document window tree, move them aside, edit, then move them back. Sometimes there are 3 or more widgets that occupy the same location in the XIB, even though only a few are visible at a time while the application is running. How are conditionally-visible screen elements actually supposed to be organized? I would like to be able to hide groups of views to reveal what's beneath them, but I don't see a way to do that in IB. If I create UIViewControllers for every group, I can edit them in separate windows, but I can't see them in context, and I need a lot of view controllers...

• Eliminating cyclic flows from a graph

  I have a directed graph with flow volumes along edges and I would like to simplify it by removing all cyclic flows. This can be done by finding the minimum of the flow volumes along each edge in any given cycle and reducing the flows of every edge in the cycle by that minimum volume, deleting edges with zero flow. When all cyclic flows have been removed the graph will be acyclic. For example, if I have a graph with vertices A, B and C with flows of 1 from A?B, 2 from B?C and 3 from C?A then I can rewrite this with no flow from A?B, 1 from B?C and 2 from C?A. The number of edges in the graph has reduced from 3 to 2 and the resulting graph is acyclic. Which algorithm(s), if any, solve this problem?

• a direct, simple api to run as system?

  Suppose a program is running with elevated privileges already, and it needs to see the contents of the System Volume Information folder, and by default, only NT Authority\System can do that. A workaround would be to change ACL's on the folder, but I don't want to mess with that. I already found two ways to do it: the task scheduler and psexec. They are too indirect, I don't even need to describe the first one, and the second one works by installing a windows service, running it, telling it to run whatever I wanted to run, then uninstalling the service. Now the question is: is there a direct, simple WinAPI function to run something as system? I don't think that such an API would circumvent the security restrictions, as an administrator I have the right to schedule a task or install a service, so there must be a shortcut.

  I am doing some custom serializing, and in order to save some space, i want to serialize the decimals as int, if possible value wise. Performance is a concern, since i am dealing with a high volume of data.   Hi, I am using flvplayer.swf player, it is playing the videos,but before playing the video the player has black screen and a play button. When I click the play button the video plays. Is it possible to show a screen-shot of the video with the play button on top, instead of the blank screen?   [SOLVED] - add ubi.mtd=volume_name to bootargs in uboot I want to mount UBIFS partition via /etc/fstab at startup. I created UBIFS and Volume: # ubiformat /dev/mtdX # ubiattach -p /dev/mtdX # ubimkvol /dev/ubi0 -N volume_name -s 64MiB # ubiupdatevol /dev/ubi0_0 /path/to/ubifs.img # mount -t ubifs ubi0:volume_name /mount/point but after reboot this line in etc/fstab doesn't work: ubi0:volume_name /mnt/user ubifs defaults 0 0 There is no fs mounted in /mnt/user. Also when I try to call mount -a: mount: mounting ubi0:volume_name on /mnt/user failed: No such device There are no ubi0,ubi0_0 in /dev. I also don't see any UBI calls in dmesg like here: UBIFS boot error

• Best way to code a webservice in weblogic?

  I am new to Weblogic and J2ee. I need to build a webservice that simply runs a query on the backend database (DB2 zOS) and returns the results. Being new to this I have a few questions. 1) What is the best way to build the webservice? 2) How do I connect to the database with weblogic. 3) Is there a way to cache the data returned so that the next request for the same data is pulled from cache?   I'm trying to optimize a site I'm building with Django/Flash and am having a problem using Django's iterate over chunks() feature. I'm sending an image from Flash to Django using request.POST data rather than through a form (using request.FILES). The problem I foresee is that if there is large user volume, I could potentially kill memory. But it seems that Django only allows iterating over chunks with request.FILES. Is there a way to: 1) wrap my request.POST data into a request.FILES (thus spoofing Django) or 2) use chunks() with request.POST data

• Refactoring a long method that simply populates

  I am refactoring a method which is over 500 lines (don't ask me why) The method basically queries a list of maps from the database and for each map in the list does some computation and adds the value of that computation to the map. There are however too many computations and puts being done that the code has reached over 500 lines already! • Circular NSSlider with stop (non-continuous)

  I am not sure how to phrase this better as a title but I need to make an NSSlider that functions as a normal volume knob. At the moment it will spin around as many times as I hold the mouse down and move it around the control. I need it to stop at the "0" position and the "100" position, I cannot have it jumping from 0 to 100 when I drag it the other way. I hope I am making this clear. Does anyone know how to do this or have any suggestions?

I'm doing this using jfugue library. the problem is when I'm tryingto stop playback with stop button (which call sequencer.stop() and sequencer.close()) the last played note is sound all of rest time, and I can't stop it. So I'm asking about solution about stopping all audio and MIDI too! sound playback from java application. Notice: If you want propose just mute volume, you need to know that I want end-use will be able to press play button again and hear the sound again, so muting volumr will be not a solution, or explain please. • What's a good FOSS java servlet session replication solution

  I work on a very high volume public website running on Tomcat 5.5. Currently we require stickiness to a particular server in order to maintain session. I'd like to start replicating session, but have had trouble finding a good FOSS solution. I've written my own Manager (using memcached as the store) but am having trouble dealing with race conditions if more than one server is handling the requests for the same user. Is there a solution out there I should be looking at? I'm looking for not just something that works as a fallback if stickiness fails, but that would work if user requests are regularly spread to multiple servers.

Double tap the home button while the music is playing. You will see appear a popup with the play/pause/next/previous buttons and a volume control. Do you know if it's possible to make this popup appear programmatically ?   Where is the best place to store application preferences? In particular, I'd like to save preferences for a media player such as volume levels and the like. Two candidates spring to mind... file and registry. Which would be more appropriate? As a follow up to this, I'm also wondering if there are any APIs that aid in creating application specific settings. Unless someone advises me that this is wrong, I'd like to save stuff either in HKCU... or HKLM/Software/MyCompanyName/MyAppName/Key for the registry, or in %APPDATA\MyCompanyName\MyAppName\someTypeOfSettingsFile. As these seem to be commonly used for such settings, I'd assume that .Net makes it easy to store settings in these locations. Is there a simple high level API that can .Net offer me to read and write settings to these common locations?

  I am using this code to find files recursively in a folder , with size greater than 50000 bytes. def listall(parent): lis=[] for root, dirs, files in os.walk(parent): for name in files: if os.path.getsize(os.path.join(root,name))>500000: lis.append(os.path.join(root,name)) return lis This is working fine. But when I used this on 'temporary internet files' folder in windows, am getting this error. Traceback (most recent call last): File "<pyshell#4>", line 1, in <module> listall(a) File "<pyshell#2>", line 5, in listall if os.path.getsize(os.path.join(root,name))>500000: File "C:\Python26\lib\genericpath.py", line 49, in getsize return os.stat(filename).st_size WindowsError: [Error 123] The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect: 'C:\\Documents and Settings\\khedarnatha\\Local Settings\\Temporary Internet Files\\Content.IE5\\EDS8C2V7\\??????+1[1].jpg' I think this is because windows gives names with special characters in this specific folder... Please help to sort out this issue.
