  • Representing complex scheduled reoccurance in a database

    I have the interesting problem of representing complex schedule data in a database. As a guideline, I need to be able to represent the entirety of what the iCalendar -- ics -- format can represent, but in a database. I'm not actually implementing anything relating to ics, but it gives a good scope of the type of rules I need to be able to model. I need to allow allow representation of a single event or a reoccurring event based on multiple times per day, days of the week, week of a month, month, year, or some combination of those. For example, the third Thursday in November annually, or the 25th of December annually, or every two weeks starting November 2 and continuing until September 8 the following year. I don't care about insertion efficiency but query efficiency is critical. The operation I will be doing most often is providing either a single date/time or a date/time range, and trying to determine if the defined schedule matches any part of the date/time range. Other operations can be slower. For example, given January 15, 2010 at 10:00 AM through January 15, 2010 at 11:00 AM, find all schedules that match at least part of that time. (i.e. a schedule that covers 10:30 - 11:00 still matches.) Any suggestions? I looked at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1016170/how-would-one-represent-scheduled-events-in-an-rdbms but it doesn't cover the scope of the type of reoccurance rules I'd like to model.

  • Grabbing rows from MySql where current date is in between start date and end date (Check if current date lies between start date and end date)

    I'm trying to select from the database to get the "campaigns" that dates fall into the month. So far i've been successful in grabbing rows that starts or ends inside the current month. What I need to do now is select rows that start in one month and ends a few months down the line ( EG: It's the 3rd month in the year, and there's a "campaign" that runs from the 1st month until the 5th. other example There is a "campaign" that runs from 2012 until 2013 ) I'm hoping there is some way to select via MySql all rows in which a capaign may run. If not should I grab all data in the database and only show the ones that run via the current month. I have already made a function that displays all the days inbetween each date inside an array, which is called "dateRange". I've also created another which shows how many days the campaign runs for called "runTime".   • Could my iPad app be denied from the app store for using the Tapku library?

    I'd like to use the Tapku library to add a calander date picker control to my iPad app. I'm new to iPhone OS development and I'm still rusty on identifying the 3rd party tools and code that will get my iPad app denied from the app store. For those that have used the Tapku library, would using it in my iPad app violate any app store rules? Thanks so much in advance for your help.   • Does CSS have a "start over" feature?

    I'm using calendar_date_select (henceforth CDS) in a Rails application, and have a stupid question. When I embed the CDS component in the middle of an already-CSS-styled page, all manner of things go ugly-wrong with it (spacing, fonts, etc.). Clearly the elements inside the CDS have inherited unwanted stuff from the styles already working in the containing page. Now, I could use a combination of, say, Safari's CSS debugging and analyze what's wrong element-by-element. But that's (A) tedious, and (B) might load up my component's styles with tons of container-defeating special cases. If nothing else, I'm certain to change the containing page's styles in the future and would have to maintain the special cases. My question: Is is possible to have a DIV in a page that essentially backs out all the existing styling? Is there a simple one-liner that will do this? Failing that, can it be done on an element-by-element basis? E.g. I know what tags the CDS generates, so I could list each of them: { p: "#--NOTHING--#"; a: "#--NOTHING--#"; } where #--NOTHING--# is the Magic Turn Off All Inherited Styles incantation. http://code.google.com/p/calendardateselect/ Thanks, peeps.

    The Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.SqlDataType enum has a value for the timestamp type but not rowversion. I'm looking for an updated version of the assembly or an alternate enum type that supports it. The existing enum has a value for Timestamp, but according to the rowversion documentation, timestamp is "deprecated and will be removed in a future version". I prefer to avoid using deprecated things :)

  • Calculate business days

    Hi, I need a method for adding "business days" in PHP. For example, Friday 12/5 + 3 business days = Wednesday 12/10. At a minimum I need the code to understand weekends, but ideally it should account for US federal holidays as well. I'm sure I could come up with a solution by brute force if necessary, but I'm hoping there's a more elegant approach out there. Anyone? Thanks.
