• How can i point wildcard domains to a folder in apache

  I am developing an app using PHP and deploying it on Apache on the Amazon AWS environment. This app requires to be made available to customers from their own chosen domain name? How can i acheive this? For example www.customer1.com = /var/www/myapp.mydomain.com www.customer2.com = /var/www/myapp.mydomain.com I would like to do this similar to how bitly enables shortened url's for custom domains. www.myshrturl.com is dns configured to a CNAME - cname.bitly.com Appreciate if someone could help me acheive this functionality. If there are any other details required, please let me know, I shall update the same.

• Microsoft releases Bing iPhone app

  As its officials have been hinting and promising for a while now, Microsoft announced it has developed a version of its Bing search app for the iPhone. The new Bing app is available on the iPhone app store as of tonight (December 15). Microsoft already offers Bing on a number of mobile phones, and has a five-year deal with Verizon to provide Bing on a number of phones available to Verizon Wireless customers. A mobile version of Bing already is available for Windows Mobile, Blackberry, BREW and Sidekick devices on Verizon. In other Bing news, Microsoft has finally hit the 10 percent market share mark with Bing, according to the November U.S. search share data from comScore.   When refering to a users stuff should you use My or Your, for example: My Cart | My Account | My Wishlist Or Your Cart | Your Account | Your Wishlist I found this article that argues for the use of your. It says flikr does this. It also says MySpace and MyYahoo are wrong. I also noticed today that Amazon uses the term Your. However, I have heard they are the masters at testing variations and finding the best one, so what you see on their site might be the best variation, or simply something they are currently testing. I personally like the way my looks better, but thats just my opinion. What do you think? What will hever the better impact on customers? Does it really even matter?

• An Approach to Incremental Conversion

• .NET developer needs FoxPro advice

  We have a prospect with FoxPro 2.6 (whatever it means) system. Our product integrates with other systems by the means of triggers (usually). We would place couple of triggers on X system and then just pull collected data for our use. This way there is no need to customize customers product and it works great(almost real time - we poll for changes every 30 seconds). Question: Can I put triggers on FoxPro 2.6? Can access FoxPro from .NET? Any catches/caveats?

• Oracle FLEXCUBE delivers 'Bank-in-a-Box' with Oracle Database Appliance

  Another great example of how Oracle Database Appliance simplifies the deployment of high availability database solutions making it easy for Oracle Partners and ISVs to deliver value added solutions to customers on a simple, reliable and affordable database platform. Oracle FLEXCUBE Universal Banking recently announced that it runs on Oracle Database Appliance X3-2 to deliver mid-size banks a compelling banking-in-a-box solution. With this certification, banks can benefit from a low-IT-footprint, high-performance, full-scale banking technology that is engineered to support end-to-end business requirements. In a recent performance test of Oracle FLEXCUBE Universal Banking on Oracle Database Appliance X3-2, the system managed more than 2.6 million online transactions in 60 minutes. This equated to roughly 744 transactions per second with an average response time of 156 milliseconds for 98 percent of the transactions. • Where to find clients?

  My main area: web development. Of course, I don't expect anybody give away their 'gold mine' or whatever but I am struggling to see where I should be advertising my services. I have one other developer I work with and we have a lot of happy clients - on freelance websites. Thing is, freelance websites just seem to suck the life out of you when you're being out-bidded by ridiculous rates. I want to attract customers who are more concerned about quality and accountability than price. Any suggestions at all? I'm so lost with this. EDIT: Added bounty of 200 - all of my 'reputation'. EDIT: Added second bounty of 50 I did hear of a novel idea. Do work for an opensource project and get featured in their 'trusted developers' section, if they have one. Input?

• Product News: Oracle Unveils a Waste Management Solution for the Oracle E-Business Suite

  Oracle recently announced a new product to help organizations reduce the cost and compliance with international hazmat (short for hazardous materials) and recycling and environmental protection laws. This new waste management solution for Oracle E-Business Suite extends the capabilities of  Oracle Depot Repair, Oracle Transportation Management and Oracle Global Trade Management. It automates and monitors waste management processes to help ensure that hazardous materials are tracked and handled in accordance with regulatory requirements.   3 weeks of traveling through Asia and Australia - nearly 500 customers and partners in 8 workshops in Tokyo, Seoul, Beijing, Shenzhen, Singapore, Melbourne, Perth and Manila. Great people in all places, many interesting discussions, several new reference prospects for Oracle Database 11g Release 2 - YOU should upgrade as well pretty soon :-) But now it's time to go home. We are a bit exhausted but we really enjoyed it talking to and with you. And I'd suppose we'll meet again the sooner or later. Thanks to everybody - and special thanks to the local colleagues and especially to Abe-san, Kota-san, Blair Layton and Shaheen Ismail for taking care on us, organizing our workshops and the whole setup!!!

• What is the difference between Output Text and Output Text (Active)?

  When building an ADF Faces application in JDeveloper, you might have noticed that in the Component Palette there is an option for both "Output Text" as well as "Output Text (Active)".   Why do we have both of these options?Under the covers, there are actually two tags, af:outputText and af:activeOutputText.  Similarly, there is an active version of af:image, namely af:activeImage, and an active version of af:commandToolbarButton, af:activeCommandToolbarButton.In the vast majority of cases, developers should use the non-active version of the components.   The active version of the components are there to support specific usecases around Server Side Push using the Active Data Service feature.  Most of our customers don't use Server Side Push, and hence do not need the active version of the components.  You can learn more about Server Side Push with ADF Active Data Service in this blog.By using the active version of af:outputText, af:image or af:commandToolbarButton when you don't need to, you are taking a performance hit that is unnecessary.

• How can I cap cloud-costs?

  I am looking into launching a cloud-based product for consumers where with a prepaid account they can start a server with a simple click and load up the software and access it remotely. The technical side of that I can manage, but I am worried about the costs escalating ridiculously high for both me and my customers Is there a way I can Limit how much each server can cost me before it will be deactivated See how much a server is currently costing me (so I can deduct it from their account) with it being extremely reliable as I don't want to have to have a giant bill in any possibility.

• Java 7 Adoption at 79%

  According to a recent blog post from the cloud hosting company Jelastic, Java 7 adoption on their platform is now at 79%. While this is a single data point and should not be read too broadly, it does match other indicators we have that Java 7 is picking up, such as uptake among Oracle middleware customers, download statistics and online activity. The spike in adoption in April coincided with the release of JDK 7 Update 4. This is in line with our expectations since that release added Mac OS X support as well as java.com moving to Java 7 as the default download for end-users; two events that marked the maturity of Java 7 to the community. Since the original release of Java 7, Oracle has shipped 7 update releases, added ports to Mac OSX and Linux/ARM and expanded JavaFX to all common desktop platforms.

• Why was Oracle Enterprise Taxation Management renamed to Oracle Enterprise Taxation and Policy Management?

  Ø       Some of you may wonder why we changed the product name from Oracle Enterpraise Taxation Manament (ETM) to Oracle Enterprise and Policy Management(ETPM).   When Oracle added a limited use license for Oracle Policy Automation to the Oracle Enterprise Taxation Management license, the license was re-named to Oracle Enterprise Taxation and Policy Management.  Ø     When referring to versions 2.2 and prior, the proper name is Oracle Enterprise Taxation Management (ETM) Ø     When referring to versions 2.3 and later, the proper name is Oracle Enterprise and Policy Management (ETPM) Ø     To take advantage of the limited use license for Oracle Policy Automation, customers must transition from the ETM license to the ETPM license.  However, they can remain on their ETM license if they are not going to take advantage of Oracle Policy Automation features.
