  I've created a database and a user, and allowed access via the following: create user 'someuser'@'%' identified by 'password'; grant all privileges on somedb.* to 'someuser' with grant option; however, when I try to connect to MySQL I get the following error: $ mysql -u someuser -p > Enter Password: > ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'someuser'@'localhost' (using password: YES) If "%" is the wildcard, then wouldn't it also enable localhost?

• Permission denied when running emacs from cygwin console

  When I run emacs from the cygwin console I get the following error message: bash: /usr/bin/emacs/ :Permission denied I have not changed any settings. I tried to change the autosave settings in the emacs system file but that didn't work so I deleted it and saved the file. It was after that that I started getting this error. Any idea as to why this is?

  Hi guys I am running subversion 1.4 on Centos 5.2 and my clients are using tortoise to do their check out, commit etc. I think I have permissions problems but I have configured the folder to accessible to everyone with 777 attribute but I seem not to be getting anywhere. Its generating this error on tortoise "svn: Can't open file 'PATH/TO/MY/FILES/entries': Permission denied". Some guy was suggesting some indexing software installed on the client machine like google desktop, any suggestions?

• Can't delete C:\Config.Msi\75ce84f.rbf

  I can't delete C:\Config.Msi\75ce84f.rbf It's not causing any problems but it's a mystery I'd like to solve, preferably before the next reboot because it's scheduled for deletion then (see pendmoves). it's not readonly, system or hidden it's not in use by another process (according to Process Explorer) the NT security permissions aren't the problem either - I am the owner and have Full Control ; as a double-check, the Effective Permissions tab shows that I have permission to delete. Yet trying to delete the file gives "Access is Denied" from both Explorer and cmd. I can however rename it or move it to another folder on the same drive. I can also read it and Virustotal says it's clean which is what I would expect (it's just a Windows Installer temp file - a copy of some DLL I think). The relevant line from Process Monitor is: 6:52:14.3726983 PM 112 Explorer.EXE SetDispositionInformationFile C:\Config.Msi\75ce84f.rbf CANNOT DELETE Delete: True Write 1232 Background: I'm using XP SP2. I recently repaired my Adobe Reader installation to make it the default browser plugin again instead of Foxit. (there seems to be no UI to do it otherwise?) So the installer did its thing and then asked to reboot. As is my habit when rebooting is inconvenient I declined the offer and ran pendmoves to find out what files the installer had scheduled to move / delete. It wanted to delete two files with .rbf extension (rollback files) located in C:\Config.msi\. (this applies to both even though I've been speaking about one). So I tried to delete them manually and couldn't. Does anyone have any ideas what could be preventing deletion? (and I don't think it's malware even though I'm not running AV at the moment)

• Interesting phenomenom with Windows Server 2008 R2 user access controls and NTFS ACLs

  One to try, and I'd appreciate any thoughts on this. On a Windows Server 2008 R2 box (or presumably 2008 R1, Windows Vista or Windows 7): i) Logon as an administrator, and create a new NTFS volume ii) Blow away the standard MS ACLS on the root of the volume (which are laughable), and replace with Administrators:Full Control, System:Full Control, e.g.: echo Y|cacls.exe d:\ /g "Administrators:F" "SYSTEM:F" iii) Now, from a Command Prompt shell window or PowerShell window, switch to that drive (cd /d D:\ or set-location D:\ ). Works fine... no issues. iv) Now, try to browse to the root of the new volume using MS Explorer... Access denied. Now, I've kind of convinced myself that it is UAC getting in the way, as you can add "Authenticated Users:List" access to D:\ and Explorer then works. I can only assume that MS Explorer isn't able to use the "admin" token for the Administrator. Browsing to explorer.exe and doing a "Run as administrator" has no effect. Any thoughts? • NTFS Permissions - Access Denied even though Explicit Allow and no Deny

  I'm hoping someone can help me with this NTFS permissions problem. The short version is that I can't write a new file in F:\SomeDir even though I seem to be granted full permissions via both the "Domain Admins" group and a second unprivileged group. The "Effective Permissions" tab in the explorer permissions UI shows that I have full control, and there are no "Deny"s anywhere in the ACL or anything else that looks unusual. I am logged into the machine over RDP and accessing the disk directly, not through a share. • msysgit - sh.exe - fork: Permission denied - Vista 64 bit

  I installed msysgit on other Windows machines with no problems. On this Vista 64 bit Ultimate box, I installed the 3 most recent versions of msysgit. On all three installs, when I do a "git bash here", I get exactly this on the command window: sh.exe": fork: Permission denied sh.exe"-3.1$ NThe git command doesn't work. I get the same permission denied message. Any clues as to how to fix this?

  Hi All, I am getting an Access is denied error while I am trying to run the .pyo file by double click or from the command prompt. Lets say I have abc.py (keeping main method entry point) which imports files xyz.py and imports wx etc. I generate the .pyo file. But once I try to run abc.pyo I get the access is denied error.   Hi folks, I'm using popen in order to send a few commands within a Django app. Problem is that I'm getting [Error 5] Access Denied, apparently I have no access to cmd.exe, which popen seems to use. WindowsError at /test/cmd/ [Error 5] Access is denied: 'C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c dir' I reckon this is because the app sits behind a web server which has limited privileges.   Hi I have the following powershell script: Import-Module BitsTransfer Get-BitsTransfer -AllUsers | Set-BitsTransfer -SetOwnerToCurrentUser which is running on Server2008 R2. I get the error message: Set-BitsTransfer : Access is denied. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070005 (E_ACCESSDENIED)) I have googled around but cannot seem to find the reason why this happens or how to fix this. I suspect it is a permission issue. I am logged in as local administrator and use the 'Run as administrator' option when starting powershell. I have also tried setting the execution policy, but it makes no difference. I am not aware of permissions on commands in powershell. Could someone please shed some light on this. Thanks. Rouan

  I have my sendmail.cf file configured to send local mail and to receive external mail to local users. So sending mail from the server to the external world works fine, but the other way around does not... I get an error e-mail saying: Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently: [email protected] Technical details of permanent failure: Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 550 550 5.7.1 root@75.xxx.xxx.xxx... Relaying denied (state 14). Also I can't find logs in /var/log, all I see is this binary file in /var/log/mail/statistics Thanks!

• Can't copy file with green filename, access denied

  Using Windows Explorer under XP I see some of my files have green filenames. When I try and copy one of these files I get an error reporting Access denied. The My pictures folder also appears with green text and I have a large number of photos from family holidays I don't want to loose. I need to backup these files as I'm changing laptop soon. We use SafeBoot to encryt our hard drives but I don't think this is the problem as it allows me to copy other files to removable media with no problems. Has anybody come across this before and how can I resolve this?

• IIS7 returns 403.1 (execute access denied) for image file

  I have a web app running in IIS7 on Windows Server 2008. There is a virtual directory pointing to a shared folder "/Content/Data" on another machine (running Windows Server 2003), as well as a real directory "/Content/Images" on the local machine (web app sub folder). Accessing images in "/Content/Images" is no problem, but when an image (e.g. a JPEG file) in the "/Content/Data" is accessed by a browser, IIS returns this error: HTTP Error 403.1 - Forbidden: Execute access is denied. However, the web app can read and write to / from it. I assume IIS and ASP.NET are running under different user accounts? Does anyone have an idea on what I have to do to make it work? I have set the permissions on the shared folder to Everyone Full Control, with no luck.

I have done everything I can find to configure remote management of the server including: Added a net user on server Enabled anonymous dcom access on server and client Added firewall rules for "Windows Firewall Remote Management" and "Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI)" on server Added firewall exception on server for client IP Added cmdkey on client Added server to TrustedHost list on client Added LocalAccountTokenFilter policy registry entry on server Added client IP to server's host file Added server IP to client's host file I cannot believe I am still getting these errors. What's even more strange is that I can connect in Hyper-V Manager and create VM's but not in MMC and Server Manager. I also get Access Denied trying to Open the Authorization Store on my server from my client using Authorization Manager. I'm providing all the errors because I have a feeling they root from the same problem. Does anybody see anything I missed?

  Robocopy is preinstalled with Windows 7. I've used it many times in the past. I tried to copy a folder to a remote share with robocopy c:\source "\\server\share\path" /s /r:2 /w:2` As a result I get permission denied. Using explorer I can copy files to this share. I've opened a command prompt with administrator permissions with the same result. The share is read/write for public. • Permission denied when using mv in Windows 7 Cygwin

  I have Cygwin installed on Windows 7 in a windows domain sign-on environment. I can run most typical commands without issue, but I cannot for the life of me use the "mv" command to move or rename files, regardless of the file or directory. I can copy and create files without issue. +-[12:27:57]-[mbutl2@MYHOSTNAME] +--> tmp $ >> pwd /tmp +-[12:27:58]-[mbutl2@MYHOSTNAME] +--> tmp $ >> touch test.txt +-[12:28:02]-[mbutl2@MYHOSTNAME] +--> tmp $ >> mv test.txt hello -bash: /usr/bin/mv: Permission denied I have already tried running Cygwin terminal as Administrator and the problem is the same. I'm open to workarounds, such as trying another exe for moving files and redirecting the mv command to it. Moving files works in the Windows Command Prompt.

• mysql UDF : fopen = permission denied

  Hi All, this is question I already asked on SO but I wonder if this could be a SysAdmin problem. I'm trying to create a mysql UDF function , this function calls "fopen/fclose" to read a flat file stored in /data. But using errno (yes, I know it is bad in a MT program...) I can see that the function cannot open my file: "Permission denied" I tried to do a chmod -R 755 /data (as well as 777, chown -R mysql:mysql /data etc...) but it didn't change anything. when I copied the flat file to /tmp : OK, my UDF was able to 'fopen' the file. I'm puzzled. currently , I've got: drwxrwxrwx 4 pierre root 4096 2010-05-26 16:51 /data drwxrwxrwx 3 pierre root 4096 2010-05-18 09:41 /data/dir1 drwxrwxrwx 3 pierre root 4096 2010-05-18 09:41 /data/dir1/dir2 drwxrwxrwx 4 pierre root 4096 2010-05-18 10:27 /data/dir1/dir2/dir3 -rw-r--r-- 1 pierre root 50685268 2005-12-10 00:01 /data/dir1/dir2/dir3/myfile.txt Any idea ?

• Server 2008 print server down / access denied

  I have two Server 2008 servers (both running as VMs in VMware). One is a Full Installation, and the other is a Server Core installation. I just installed Print Services on both of them. In Print Management on the Full server, I added the Server Core print server (so now two print servers are listed in Print Management). However, the icon for my Server Core print server has a red, down-pointing arrow (indicating that it is down, I suppose). And when I right-click it and click Add Printer, I get a message saying that access is denied. Can someone tell me how to bring up or check on the status of the Server Core print server. Obviously, I'm somewhat of a noob with this stuff. Thanks in advance...

• Can't create PID file on MySQL server, permission denied

  The MySQL server won't start and is reporting the following error: /usr/local/mysql/bin/mysqld: Can't create/write to file '/usr/local/mysql/data/James-Barnhills-Mac-Pro.local.pid' (Errcode: 13) Can't start server: can't create PID file: Permission denied All the permissions are set recursively as: lrwxr-xr-x 1 _mysql wheel 27 Nov 22 09:25 mysql -> mysql-5.5.18-osx10.6-x86_64 but it won't start. I've tried reinstalling several times to no avail. I'm running as root on Mac OS, and MySQL has read, write, and execute permissions on the "data" folder.

• FastCGI Error Access to the script denied

  I have a Debian Squeeze server running nginx + php-fpm + fastcgi. I have a typo3 installation on this server which runs well. No I installed OTRS and I get an error that I do not understand: 2012/06/25 15:35:38 [error] 16510#0: *34 FastCGI sent in stderr: "Access to the script '/opt/otrs/bin/fcgi-bin/index.pl' has been denied (see security.limit_extensions)" while reading response header from upstream, client: ..., server: support.....com, request: "GET /otrs/index.pl HTTP/1.1", upstream: "fastcgi://127.0.0.1:9000", host: "support.....com", referrer: "http://support.....com/" Why do I get this error? The otrs directory is writable for the webserver, so this is not the problem. Any ideas?
