I have a number of User Defined Data Collector Sets running on a Windows 2008R2 server, collecting perfmon stats from various servers.
Whenever there is a network interruption, or a server rebooted (at worst, when the server which is running all these DCSs is rebooted), I have to manually restart some or all of the Data Collector Sets.
Is there a way to configure them to automatically restart, or otherwise be more resilient?
Good morning,
I have a registry key that changes local users Internet Explorer LAN Settings to uncheck the "Automatically detect settings" tickbox.
When I add this policy to the Terminal Servers user group it has no effect. I exported this key from my own registry after unticking the box. My computer runs Windows Vista Business Edition.
Environment: We are using Server 2008 RC2 environment - two terminal servers with a session broker.
Any idea's on how to get this working?
Whenever i select something in visual mode it automatically gets copied. It causes a problem since i have alread something in clipboard to paste in that selected text. Is there any way to disable this. Is this due to the fact that my xterm also has similar behaviour
I'd like to be sure that cpanel/WHM is definitely NOT going to automatically update my PHP to 5.3 (it will cause all sorts of errors for legacy code).
So, please let me know where I should look (either in WHM control panel or via SSH) in order to satisfy myself that PHP definitely won't get upgraded to 5.3 without my say-so?
I'd like to find a way to automatically move all the files from the Downloads folder to the trash. Ideally I'd like to trigger this with a keyboard short cut. How should I try this - Automator perhaps? Thanks!
How can I make the border of shapes smoother, without re-touching it in detail ?
Is there any Photoshop advanced functionality doing it automatically ?
See example: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/72686/border.png

I work in a company of about 20 people, I need to share some files with all of them in a folder(s) (files are constantly changed by me).., so they need to get the latest changed file automatically (pushed to their computer) What's the best program/system for this task?
I need to be able to administrate their read/write access to the folder on a user level.
Windows Live Mesh seemed to be perfect for me, but unfortunatly there's a limit of only 9 people in that system.
In an Excel spreadsheet, I'd like to automatically update a cell with the current date and time when another cell is changed (like an update timestamp).
Do you have any pointers on how to do that?
Hi,
we're running an ActiveDirectory environment and want to have some shares listed as Shared Resources under the Network Neighbourhood.
This is easy in the UI but I can't seem to find a way to do it automatically via scripts/GPO/etc.
I have this problem when my macbook air sometimes does not connect to free wifi hotspots. When the problem happens and I try to run the diagnostics, it normally gets to yellow network settings tab. It seems that it for some reason does not acquire automatically the router or dns address. Sometimes after I shut it down and restart it magically connects to the wifi hotspot but it is very inconsistent. Anyone knows a fix for this problem?
For some reason when I boot my laptop now (winxp), it doesn't start explorer.exe automatically; I'm left with a desktop background and a mouse pointer. I have to run taskman and start explorer.exe manually.
Recently I had Spyware Dr. detect a severe threat, and I was wondering if there was anyway to re-hookup explorer.exe on startup.
See this NYTimes url:

If we type
opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/01/02/war-i
in browser, it automatically redirects us to the above article, the only article in that folder starting with "war-i".
How to do this in a site with apache, which serves static html files only? That is, if there is a apache module, without adding scripts, that would be best.

The icons of my folders in Windows 8 have changed automatically !
Now it is similar to that of the Unknown File Type icon.
My C: drive icon and some icons in the Explorer-Home menu had also changed, but they became normal after a restart. But the folder icons (Medium Size) don't change. This is also seen in the "Save Dialog"-box. Please help, Thanks in advance...

I am sure I am not the only one that asked this question.
we have a daily conf call that tanks place in a foreign country. too early to attend so I decided to use skype and record it automatically.
I use Task Scheduler
"c:\Program Files (x86)\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe"/callto:+XXXXXXXXXX,,,125
the dialer is supposed to dial the XX number and wait a few seconds (the ",") then dial the 125 access code.
Unfortunatly Skype doesnt accept the "," pause
Any solution ?
thank you
Is there a tool that can automatically remove the music sections of a given mp3 file so only the talking part is left? This would create a better listening experience when listening to the file on my portable mp3 player.
Currently I'm doing the task manually by looking for 'dense' regions using Audacity, but this is very cumbersome for large files.
Any help would be appreciated.
Goal: automatically adjusting speed (bpm) of a given set of MP3 files in order to have a collection of music optimized to be heard when I am running. (I realized that I prefer to run with about 168 bpm in my ears).
Of course, I could have some software to detect BPM and then calculate and stretch/squeeze each song using Audacity or a similar tool, however, I'd prefer a solution which requires less manual operation.
How can you run an application as another user in Windows 7? The only catch is that I don't want to have to hold down the shift key, right click on the application and choose Run as different user. I need it to automatically login using the login credentials I specify.
We have a number of shared computers that users never seem to log out of. Am I correct that there is no built in functionality to automatically log off console sessions after an idle timeout? I've seen two suggestions: a logoff screensaver, and a scheduled task with an idle trigger. Will the idle trigger work if only the session is idle, but the computer is in use with a different session? Is there a better way to go about this? Thanks,
How can I automatically run a script when I log on to Windows?
I'd like to run this whenever I log into my computer:
echo %USERNAME% logged on at %DATE% %TIME% >> log.txt
A bonus would be to be able to run the same script whenever I unlock the screen saver as well.
I am looking for a solution for copying all the files from a specific directory on the hard drive, to a specific directory on a USB memory device, once this device is connected.
I have a program that downloads podcast episodes for me.
I would like these files to be automatically moved (or at least copied) to my mp3 player once I connect it to the computer.
I have both windows xp and linux machines, so a solution for any of them will work for me.
I have a dozen forwarders sending into a gmail account, I have outlook setup using imap but when I reply I don't want it sending from the Gmail address, instead I want it to come from one of the addresses it was forwarded to.
I know I can set the from address manually by accessing the email's options when writing a new email, but this is going to be forgotten by the users and they are bound to mess it up, I need a way that I can send as some of the forwarded addresses automatically, any ideas?
