  I get a blue screen of death in my windows 98 machine every time I boot it. I can't reach to my desktop. The error is like this: A fatal exception 0E occured at 0028:C003CC2F in VxD IOS(01) + 0000156B This was called from 0028:C0082E60 in VxD VKD(01) + 000001D0 I have to then give it a three finger salute to restart the system. There is no other way to shut down the system at this point except pressing the CPU power button. What could be the problem? • What could explain my partitions disappearing on a new SSD with Windows 7?

  So this morning, I had a fresh install of Windows 7 pro, on a new SSD (Patriot TorqX 128gb), which I just put in to a new Dell Studio XPS 9000. Everything was fine. I booted to windows, no problem. I go to work. 8 hours later, I come home, and I'm greeted by my boot screen complaining about no bootable devices. Windows repair from the Windows 7 pro disk says it can't fix the problem. It doesn't see any windows installs. I boot up GParted, and my SSD is completely unallocated. No space used, no partitions. Perhaps this is related to allowing windows 7 to create a utility partition when I installed? Only thing I can think of. Is there some kind of known hardware issue that can result in an SSD completely wiping itself?

  Hi, I just bought an 1TB External Hard drive with eSATA, USB, FW400/800 (LaCie if you are interested). I already put the windows 7 installation in a FAT32 active partition so i can plug the HDD via USB, since my notebook or other computers doesn't support boot via eSATA commonly, and it works. Now i want to do more partitions so i'm looking for a way to have a boot manager as active partitions that allows me to boot from different partitions in my HDD (win7, ubuntu installations for example) I want to know if you know any software to do this or you already have this system. Thanks and sorry i have too many grammar errors because english is not my native language :)

  What software can take a snapshot of a Win XP or Win 7 machine -- burning all files into a DVD-R, and then be able to boot from that DVD-R can restore the whole machine back to that state stored inside the DVD-R? Maybe for Win XP, it is easier as the OS can be just 1 or 2GB on the hard drive, but for Win 7, a fresh installation is already 16GB on the hard drive, so it will need several DVD-R to take the snapshot? thanks. (any of these software are open source?)

• Safemode Startup Issues on Vista 64 Bit

  Before i ask the question, let me point out that this is not a hardware issue. I have a clean install of vista on another hd that runs on same hardware, i am pretty sure its a corruption of a drive or a file, i presume it might be video driver. When windows wont start via normal boot i just get black screen after initial load up of os, so i boot into savemode, I end up having black screen with a mouse pointer visible, after initial load of os. The shut down button is responsive. Of course, I can install clean copy of os, and prior to that can retrieve all other files that i need by accessing hd itself, i can restore my pc from my external back up as well. Although i have all these options, i was wondering if there anything else i can do that can help me fix this issue. In save mode, it looks like I am capable of logging in after initial load of os, even though i cant see the process it self, i do see the mouse pointer. By visual memory i navigated to password field, and entered my password, hit enter, I get the loading mouse pointer, nothing really changes, same black screen and mouse pointer, but when i tried to access task manager for a second i got a safemode watermark at all four corners. Any help would be appriciated. Thank you in advance.

  I have installed Windows and Ubuntu side by side. I created a 10GB partition for the Ubuntu installation. During the two months I've been using Ubuntu I have installed some software. Now it's not starting. When I boot up it says that there is no diskspace so it could not be started . What can i do now? When I boot up all I get is a black screen terminal with a $. Please help me with a command to uninstall some programs and start using Ubuntu or any other way to get rid of this message.

• Last step in HDD Recovery (fixing windows)

  My dad’s hard drive corrupted which was a result of many bad sectors. Anyway, I made a clone of the drive and have now repaired it totally (recreating the MBR and MFT) and doing a series of ChkDsk's on it. I can now see all the files and folder on it and it is all intact. I currently have it as a slave in my computer (where I was doing all the repairs). When putting it back into the computer, it comes up with "A disk read error occurred: Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to Restart". I don’t know why this is happening but think it might have something to do with file permissions. I have tried a start-up recovery on the Vista boot CD and it found no problems. When trying to apply file permissions (and creating file perms for the SYSTEM group (as it didn’t have any for SYSTEM group)) it couldn't apply them for some of the System32 folder files. I have tried applying them as admin and with as powerful privileges I can get. All to no avail. When it is in my PC I can boot it up (I added it into my bootloader) and it boots up fine except when it logs in it comes up with the error - "Rundll32.exe - Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item" This message keeps coming back and nothing loads at all. Any help would be greatly received as I have got so far with the data recovery and want to avoid a reformat at all costs due to the vast number of programs installed and I don’t have much time on my hands! • Trouble loading an ISO

  I've created a boot disk and ISO image with paragon. I boot up the Virtual pc with the disk in and I get to my recovery page. When I am supposed to select an ISO image? My Virtual PC doesn't acknowledge any of my physical hard drives on my host PC. I've also tried copy/paste the files into my datastore and they do not show up. I've tried the option during the set up to start with the ISO but again I am not able to browse to my external hard drive that I have stored the ISO on. VMWare will acknowledge it and say that it is connected but I can't browse to it. Am I doing something wrong? I created the back up disk and ISO image on the external with paragon.

  I have a GA MA785GT UD3H motherboard with Windows Server 2008 R2 installed on a RAID1 using the on-board RAID controller. I have now installed a RocketRaid 2680 controller and set up a RAID5 for all my data to be stored on. Unfortunately I now cannot boot from the RAID1 anymore, the PC is trying to boot from the RAID5! Does anyone have any experience of this motherboard / RAID controller combination?

• SOLVED:Bootloader isn't executable booting XEN PV Guest with virtual-manager

  I am going insane with an error I am encountering while trying to install a PV Guest of Debian Wheezy on a Ubuntu Server precise Xen default build with libvirt. The steps I take with virt-manager are the following: 1.Net install via: http://ftp.es.debian.org/debian/dists/stable/main/installer-amd64/ 2.Install process is flawless, installed via VNC over virt-manager 3.When the VM starts I get the following error: Error starting domain: POST operation failed: xend_post: error from xen daemon: (xend.err "Bootloader isn't executable") Most answers i have found on google say that I need to edit the VM's .cfg file and correct the path to pygrub but virt-manager does not seem to create this file (I have searched the entire drive with "find". Another detail is that virsh list --all shows no VMs (Not even dom0) while the command xm list shows all of them. Any help is much appreciated. EDIT: Connected remotely via virsh: virsh -c xen+ssh://user@ip dumpxml vmname Found line: /usr/bin/pygrub ln -s /usr/lib/xen-4.1/bin/pygrub /usr/bin/pygrub Now it works. • OS X not booting after upgrading LibXML2

  I tried upgrading the version of LibXML2 in my machine to run some propietary software. Compiled as 32-bit (-arch i386) and restarted to see if it worked. Now when I try to boot I can only get into the spinning screen and it just sits there. Restarting in verbose mode (Cmd-V) does not show any error in the process, it just freezes after "AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement: initialization complete". I can't from any CD either (if I press c on startup it just spins the disk around and then stops in the same spinner screen). I've also reset the PRAM/NVRAM to discard any problems with that and it´s still not fixed. Any pointers of what might´ve gone wrong? (Latest gen MBP, running 10.6.3)

  Hardware: S50N Firmware: FTOS 8.4.2.6 Problem: We're trying to PXE boot some servers that are connected via port-channel interfaces with LACP. Current Work-around: we PXE boot a server with a single interface (eth0), and then use a Perl script to turn up the port-channel interfaces after the server is built. Details: Is anyone doing anything similar on Force10 S50 switches with FTOS? If not, is anyone doing this on another S series, or larger chassis-based Force10? I'm wondering if Native VLAN will solve this, since ports in a port-channel cannot explicitly have a VLAN set, and they don't seem to use the tagged or untagged VLAN that the port channel is in. I will confirm this next (I think it's the only thing I haven't tried) Juniper Example: http://broken.net/openindiana/how-to-pxe-boot-systems-on-lacp-using-juniper-switches/ Cisco: there are plenty of documented ways to solve this issue on IOS and Nexus Update/Edit: since there seems to be no way to use interface or port-channel mode commands to get the individual interfaces to show up in spanning-tree (rtsp in this case), the ports should never go into a forwarding state. I'm not going to mess with it anymore unless a) someone that has experience passes it on, or b) Force10 comes up with a solution for this (I'm guessing it will only be introduced on other S platforms (S55, S60), since the S50 seems to be near EOL). I'm basing that on the fact that the Open Automation type features are only being supported on the newer switches.

  I'm trying to boot an XP installation cloned into VirtualBox from a real drive. I'm getting the message A disk read error occurred Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart whenever* I try to boot the machine. * This is not strictly true: with AMD-V enabled, the boot process appears to not make it this far and instead hangs at a black screen with cursor. I created the VirtualBox image from the original drive using the following method: $ sudo ddrescue -n /dev/sdd sdd.img logfile # completed without errors $ VBoxManage convertfromraw sdd.img disk.vdi The original disk (and the image) contain a single NTFS partition with XP installed on it. The owner of the drive indicates that it did boot okay the last time the system made it that far. The (Pentium 4) system has a broken (enormous) heat sink, so at some point it failed to boot because it would quickly overheat and shut down. If I boot the VM from a live cd, I am able to mount its /dev/sda1 without any problems. I ran ntfsfix and didn't have any luck. I've read through the instructions on doing this. I didn't really follow them. For example, I didn't run MergeIDE before imaging because the machine was not bootable. However, the symptom of that problem seems to be quite different. The emitted message is contained in the volume boot record of the XP partition, which leads me to suspect that this is a problem with the core operating system bootstrap procedure, and not related to anything in the registry. I don't have an XP boot CD.

  I have a lenovo laptop with windows 8.1. I wanted to use ubuntu alongside windows. Hence, i downloaded the ubuntu 14.04 iso and created a live pendrive using Universal USB installer. I disabled secure boot and booted from the pendrive. All i get is the GNU GRUB command line version 2.X. I don't get a GUI for the GRUB and i don't know how to boot into ubuntu from the command line. I searched quite a few online forums but in vain. Can someone tell me how to proceed? Thanks in advance.

• Booting large ISO through PXE

  I currently have a FOG server (which works perfectly fine) and I'm trying to boot Windows 7 through it (with memdisk). But, since the ISO is rather large (more than 6 GB) it will try to put the ISO into memory and then boot however it crashes with the error message not enough memory to load specified image. The systems here don't have 6 GB of RAM so I need another way to boot it. I am aware of WDS and SCCM, however I want todo this with FOG. Is there any way to boot the ISO and install Windows through FOG?

• New monitor connected to HDMI adaptor doesn't show output after booting

  Hello out there in the multiple monitors’ world. I am a very old newbie in your world and need help. I just purchased a new Asus VH236H monitor and hooked it up the HDMI port of an ATI Radeon HD4300 / 4500 Series display adaptor. I left the old Princeton LCD19 (TMDS) hooked up to the DVI port of the same display adaptor. Both monitors displayed the boot sequence, after I fired good old Sarastro2 (Asus P5Q Pro Turbo – Dual Core E5300 – 2.60 GHz) up. The Asus lacked one half of a second behind the Princeton until the Windows 7 Ultimate SP 1 boot up was complete. Then the Asus displayed “HDMI NO SIGNAL” and went into hibernation. The Princeton stayed lit up as before. Both monitors are displayed on the “Screen Resolution Setup Display” and I plaid around with them for a while. The only thing I accomplished was to shove the desktop icons from the Princeton to the still hibernating Asus. The “Multiple displays:” is set to “Extend these displays”, the Orientation is “Landscape” and the Resolutions are set on both to the “recommended” one. Both monitors show that they work properly in the advanced Properties display. What am I doing wrong, what am I missing? Never mind the opinions about the different resolutions of the two monitors. I always can unhook the Princeton and give it to a Goodwill Store if I do not like the setup. I just would like to make it work. Any constructive help is very much appreciated, Thank you.

  I have a HP st5742, which is a tower that does not have a hard drive and I am trying to boot it off the network, preferably off an image. It was designed along with the program HP Image Manager, however this program has been discontinued by HP and I can not seem to find a way to get a copy. If this helps, I am running my network with windows server 2008 R2 and would like the streaming client to be running windows. I have spent days searching for a way to deploy this machine however I can not seem to find a straight forward program, guide, or way to do this. I am new to this sort of thing but I willing to reading into the subject, all I need is a point in the right direction. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
