  I own a dedicated server than runs Debian Linux. I have 64 IP addresses configured on the machine. I am looking to open a page (just has to access it with lynx or anything to read) with one of the non-default 64 IP addresses, besides just the default one. How can I do this?

  I want to be able to ban users by IP. My idea is to keep a list of IP's as rows in an BannedIPs table (the IP column would be an index). To check users' IP's against the table, I will keep a session variable called $_SESSION['IP'] for each session. If on any request, $_SESSION['IP'] doesn't match $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'], I will update $_SESSION['IP'] and check the BannedIPs table to see if the IP is banned. (A flag will also be saved as a session variable specifying whether or not the user is banned) Here are the things I'm wondering: Does that sound like a good strategy with regards to speed and security (would someone be able to get around the IP ban somehow, other than changing IP's)? What's the best way to structure a mysql query that checks to see if a row exists? That is, what's the best way to query the db to see if a row with a certain IP exists (to check if it's banned)? Should I save the IP's as integers or strings? Note that... I estimate there will be between 1,000-10,000 banned IP's stored in the database. $_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR'] is the IP from which the current request was sent.

• Cannot start serial over lan on iDrac6

  I have a couple of Dell R610/R710 servers loaded with iDrac6 system management boards. I figured out how to log into the SM CLP with ssh. According to the dell documentation, I should be able to start a console session by running: start /system1/sol1 but I get the following failure message: cmdstat status : 3 status_tag : COMMAND EXECUTION FAILED job job_id : 12 joberr errtype : 1 errtype_desc : Other cimstat : 6 cimstat_desc : CIM_ERR_NOT_FOUND severity : 2 severity_desc : Low /system1/sol1 started FAILED at Sun Sep 16 00:20:58 2012 I have enabled the serial-over-lan via the web interface and rebooted, but nothing seems to make them available.

• Cisco ASA Hairpinning with Dynamic IP

  I currently have my Cisco ASA 5505 firewall configured to forward port 80 from the outside interface to a host on my dmz interface. I also need to allow clients on my inside interface to access the host in the dmz by entering the public ip / dns record in their browsers. I was able to do that by following the instructions here, resulting in the following configuration: static (dmz,outside) tcp interface www 192.168.1.5 www netmask 255.255.255.255 static (dmz,inside) tcp 74.125.45.100 www 192.168.1.5 www netmask 255.255.255.255 (Where 74.125.45.100 is my public IP and 192.168.1.5 is the IP of the dmz host) This works great except for the fact that my network has a dynamic public IP and this configuration will therefore break as soon as my public IP changes. Is there a way to do what I want with a dynamic ip? Note: Adding an internal DNS record won't solve my problem since I have multiple dmz hosts mapped to different ports on the public IP.

  Hi Everyone! I have a problem with my router/modem. I've published an HTTP service from one of my internal computers and when I access the service from the internal lan using the external IP address the modem responds instead of redirecting the call to the forwarded port. I can access the service from outside however, but from the internal network the modem responds to my calls. I'm using a ZTE ZXDSL 831 Series modem with ZXDSL 831IIV7.5.1e_E09_BR1 firmware.   Hey all! So, we're looking to develop a mobile website. On this mobile website, we'd like to automatically populate a user's location (with proper fallback) based on their IP address. I'm aware of geocoding a location based on IP address (mapping to latitude, longitude and then getting the location with that information). However, I'm curious how accurate this information is? Are mobile devices assigned IP's when they utilize 3G, EDGE, and GPRS connections? I think so. If that is so, does it map to a relatively accurate location? It doesn't have to be spot on, but relatively accurate would be nice. Thanks! -Steve

  I have a Draytek Vigor 2820 router which is connected to our ADSL provider (British Telecom, BT). We currently have one static IP address which is accessible from anywhere outside of our network and points at a simple web server on port 80. We have just been given 5 more static IP addresses which I would like to point at five servers that have static IP's. As an example: Current static IP - 80.123.123.123 New Static IP's - 100.100.100.100-105 Server IP's - 192.168.1.129-133 I have confused myself completely between NAT addresses, static routes and WAN IP aliases. If anyone can give me a clear idea of what I need to do it would be greatly appreciated.

• Lot of Multicast traffic on LAN

  Recently the whole network at work is being hit by multicast traffic originating on the LAN itself. I did some investigating and the service which seems to be responsible is ws-discovery. I have attached a screenshot of wireshark capturing the traffic. I have tried shutting down the source machine from which it was originating, but the multicast traffic still seems to be present in the network. My network topology 2 subnets - 10.10.10.0/24 and 10.20.10.0/24. Gateway is a debian system. We have 3 switches for 3 floors. They are all unmanaged Dlink 24-port switches. Multicast blocking at switch level is out of the question. Any solutions? :(

  In my Apache config I want to set an environment variable if I see that the visitor comes from an specific IP range. Currently I do it this way: SetEnvIfNoCase Remote_Addr "^194\.8\.7[45]\." banned=spammer-ip SetEnvIfNoCase Remote_Addr "^212\.156\.170\." banned=spammer-ip What I would prefer is something like this: SetEnvIfIpRange 194.8.74.0/23 banned=spammer-ip SetEnvIfIpRange 212.156.170.0/24 banned=spammer-ip ... because I think that converting an IP address to a string and then do an regular expression is a total waste of ressources. I could do an Deny From 194.8.74.0/23 ... but then I don't get a variable that I can check in my 403 error page - to find the reason why access has been denied. Any suggestions what I might miss? Is there an Apache2 MOD that can set environment variables based on "IP Address Ranges"?

  Currently I am using : OSX 10.7.5 VMWare:5.0.1 with windows 7 professional Problem: Getting disconnected from LAN game. Description: 4 of us are trying to play frozen throne on the same network. The thing is, they are all running windows computers, and I am running W7 on VMware. I haven't made any adjustments other than changing from "sharing internet with my mac" to Bridged network "autodetect". When we start to play, everything works then all of a sudden I get disconnected. This happens every once in a while, the timing differs from time to time. None of the others ever disconnects. What could be the problem? Thanks for the help!

  We regularly setup small networks for clients in different locations to allow them to work on different products now the question what should be the best security practice. Currently we have a wifi enabled with WPA2 and most laptops connect to this but some will connect to a cabled switch connecting to the router. We are thinking on what we should do to increase the security on our small networks - We do have have security on the laptops so you can share directly to the other persons drive by a simple Windows user account. Some suggestions are: We get a LAN switch with ACL control and mac filtering for the hard wired connections? We get acl working on the wifi via a good Cisco router? ipSec policies on all machines? IP filtering and fixed IPs? I suppose people are worried that anyone can plug into the switches and get the access to the network . Summary: Maintain a level of decent security that can be replicated easily to every setup that we do for clients

• Is dual boot via wake on lan possible?

  Is it possible to set up a PC so it can Wake on Lan and then have the option of which OS to boot into? I want to have a secondary PC with Windows and a *nix variant installed. I want the PC to be in a remote room so I can connect via a wireless hub to it and then boot it up as and when required and choose which OS to boot into. If it is possible how would I go about it?   I am having a heck of a time trying to get videos streaming to my PS3. I want to know if there is some way to test the speed between my PC and ps3 to see if that is the issue. For some reason when things get really slow between the ps3 and my computer (it's a wired connection through a switch), the wireless internet on completely different computer gets slow. I don't know what's causing what, but I don't know why there should be any correlation between internet speed on a wirelessly connected laptop and the LAN speed between a wired ps3 and computer.

  I need some advice about encrypt all traffic on a small private network running wi-fi and LAN traffic on 192.168.0.x network. The network would comprise of client laptops connecting to the wi-fi router (192.168.0.254) via ethernet connection or wireless. The main purpose of the server is for the client laptops to talk to two servers on different IP's (192.168.0.200 and 192.168.0.201) on ports 80 and 433. My main concern is having packet sniffers and what not getting access to the data. The only ways I see at the moment is to have VPN running on the network or use IPSec policy's to do this. Any other ways guys?

  Is it possible to keep lan connection alive when going to sleep? Although I would like a laptop independent(in general) answer, my laptop is Thinkpad T500 and the power manager shows in PCI options, the following three option regarding saving link state power: Off, moderate, maximum. Also instant resume apparently does something different, so that isn't much help either. I'm on Windows-7. Here's why: I'm a student, and currently I keep my laptop on almost all the time, but sometimes I sleep it and then I require to check something, so I turn it on. But then internet starts in at least a minute. So I avoid even putting it to sleep. I want that the internet connection should persist, so that I can put it to sleep to avoid power consumption.

  In our office the setup is like we have a UBUNTU server with DHCP Server connected to all the PCS via 24 port and 8 port DLink switches. How can I find all the PCS(with client name, ip and mac address)in the network?? When I do "vi /var/lib/dhcp3/dhcpd.leases", I get all the ip addresses for the switches. I have used "arp-scan --interface=eth0 --localnet" to get all the IPs and MAC Addresses in my local network. I couldn't find any option to diplay client name. Also I would like to assign particular IP for a particular PC. I have done the changes in the dhcp.conf file but it is not working as they are not directly connected to DHCP-server(DLink switches in between). How can I assign IPs for PCs in this kind of setup.   I've installed WAMP on a Windows 7 PC, and it is running fine locally, as localhost. I want PCs on the LAN to be able to view the local server. When they load my PC's IP address in their browser, they receive a "You don't have permission to access / on this server" error. I followed this guide, but the issue remains. To recap: I've added an inbound exception to Windows Firewall for port 80 for Private and Domain connections. I've edited Apache's httpd.conf to include: Listen 80 Listen 192.168.0.5:80 < Directory "c:/wamp/www/wordpress/" allow from all < /Directory I've edited httpd-vhosts.conf to include: < VirtualHost 192.168.0.5:80 DocumentRoot "C:/wamp/www/wordpress" < /VirtualHost Any ideas?

• Comunication from Server to Client + Client LAN

  I'm having some trouble with some network setup. I've tried OpenVPN, SocialVPN, Hamachi, still it is not working. This is my setup: Server A: NIC 1 with internet public address, NIC 2 to LAN Client B PC: NIC 1 (192.168.10.2) connects to router 192.168.10.1 Client B Device: 192.168.10.3 (Configured via software, can't do much here) Problem: Server A must connect to cliente device B. (I can install software needed at Client B PC). However... I can't change the router to some model with VPN like Draytek or Cisco :( OpenVPN fails at bridging, PC B can ping Server A, but Server A can't ping Device B, only PC B. What else can I do?!?!?

• What are good and bad jitter times for a LAN

  Ive just ran jperf (frontend to iperf) on our network between 2 workstations, its recorded jitter between 0.033ms and 0.048ms. Is this good or bad? Are there more variables that i would need to consider to make the decision? EDIT: TCP/IP Ethernet LAN 43 PCs 1 server, 100Mbits main switch, various small 8 port switches, test was done using UDP, Its a Windows Domain. I want to instal a few voip softphones on the workstations, see how many i can use that reliably work, im testing a few different workstations around the network to see where the best quality network paths are. Will also change some equipment if i identify bad connections.

  I'm on a office network and there are around 12 PCs that are connected to a switch and then to a Prolink Router. Now the Internet connection is very slow and I'm the one who manage all the computers. I want to monitor bandwidth usage of each computer on the LAN. how can I achieve this using my computer. I cannot install any software on the client computers other than mine. I tried wireshark but, it only shows my network usage so there is no use with the data I get from it. Is there any specific software that I can use within my PC to get the bandwidth details of other computers. I'm on a windows 7 x64bit PC with admin privileges. Thank you.
