  • Memory usage on debian webserver keeps going up

    - by Steven De Groote
my webserver is running apache 1.3.x for a PHP application, along with mysql on the same machine. Most of the time it runs fine, CPU usage still with nice margin, but somehow memory usage keeps growing throughout uptime. While it looks like it is chunked from time to time, I've had moments my server going down because it's out of memory. Restarting apache or mysql only reduced memusage by 100M. Attached is an overview of monthly memory usage. The 2 massive drops are server restarts after out-of-memory situations. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/51/memorymonth.png/ Any explanations for his behaviour or how I could solve this? Thanks! Steven

  • Apache Configuration Issue - website without www going to default site

    - by Brian
I have included a copy of my virtual host file for apache below. (However I have hidden the ip address and domain name for now) My problem is that the following work: www.mydomainnamehere.org www.mydomainnamehere.com mydomainnamehere.com This one doesn't work: mydomainnamehere.org - instead of going to the document root listed below, it goes to the document root of the default site. What could be causing this? <VirtualHost [ipaddresshidden]:80> ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerName mydomainnamehere.org ServerAlias www.mydomainnamehere.org ServerAlias mydomainnamehere.com ServerAlias www.mydomainnamehere.com DocumentRoot /home/www/mydomainnamehere.org/html/ ErrorLog /home/www/mydomainnamehere.org/logs/error.log CustomLog /home/www/mydomainnamehere.org/logs/access.log combined </VirtualHost>

  • Keep lan connection alive while going to sleep

    - by user18151
Is it possible to keep lan connection alive when going to sleep? Although I would like a laptop independent(in general) answer, my laptop is Thinkpad T500 and the power manager shows in PCI options, the following three option regarding saving link state power: Off, moderate, maximum. Also instant resume apparently does something different, so that isn't much help either. I'm on Windows-7. Here's why: I'm a student, and currently I keep my laptop on almost all the time, but sometimes I sleep it and then I require to check something, so I turn it on. But then internet starts in at least a minute. So I avoid even putting it to sleep. I want that the internet connection should persist, so that I can put it to sleep to avoid power consumption.

  • Is drupal going to improve these small features ?

    - by Patrick
Is drupal going to improve the following features ? 1) multi-line description for CCK fields such as images (at the moment I can only write in a line but a text-area would be better 2) thumbnails upload for CCK Video fields (so I can upload a thumbnails for each video if I cannot install ffmpeg on the server) 3) merge CCK Images and Videos in a single group. So my customer can order them in the same list by dragging and dropping them, and in my front-end I have them ordered in the same list. This would be very useful for me. Do you know if I can get some of theme with some modules maybe ? thanks

  • Tracing out going connections

    - by Tiffany Walker

But is there a way to trace and figure out who is running an out going script? The sites all share the same IP so it's hard to know which site it is or where the script is located at.

  • What is preventing my computer from going idle?

    - by brianberns
When I first boot my Windows 7 computer, it will go idle if I stop using it - first the screensaver comes on, then the computer goes to sleep after a certain amount of time. This is the expected behavior. However, after I've used the computer for awhile without rebooting (after about a day or so), I've noticed that it stops going idle - the screensaver won't come on, and the computer won't sleep, no matter how long it sits unused. I've confirmed that the idle timer is increasing as expected via GetLastInputInfo. However, it looks like something is interfering with the results from CallNtPowerInformation. Every 14 or 16 seconds, the TimeRemaining value jumps back up to its maximum value when I query SystemPowerInformation. I've used the SysInternals Process Monitor to detect any unusual events that might be happening to trigger this reset, but come up empty. Does anyone know exactly what are the possible causes of TimeRemaining resetting to its maximum value? I'm fairly sure that it's not my mouse, keyboard, or network sending spurious events, because I've disabled each one and the problem continues to occur. This would also reset the GetLastInputInfo timer, which is not happening. I'm looking for something that affects SystemPowerInformation TimeRemaining, but does not affect GetLastInputInfo. Thanks.

  • apache with php fastcgi keeps going down

    - by Josh Nankin
I have an apache2 server configured with MPM worker and php fast cgi. Lately the apache logs have been telling me that MaxClients is being reached frequently, even though it's already pretty high. My server is now constantly going down, and I see a bunch of lines like this in the log: [Sun Mar 06 04:25:40 2011] [error] [client 50.16.83.115] FastCGI: comm with (dynamic) server "/var/local/fcgi/php-cgi-wrapper.fcgi" aborted: (first read) idle timeout (20 sec) [Sun Mar 06 04:25:40 2011] [error] [client 50.16.83.115] FastCGI: incomplete headers (0 bytes) received from server "/var/local/fcgi/php-cgi-wrapper.fcgi" I can see that my php-cgi processes are pretty large (about 70mb on average). Here's my apache configuration for MPM worker: KeepAlive ON KeepAliveTimeout 2 <IfModule mpm_worker_module> StartServers 5 MinSpareThreads 10 MaxSpareThreads 10 ThreadLimit 64 ThreadsPerChild 10 MaxClients 20 MaxRequestsPerChild 2000 </IfModule> Heres my fastcgi apache configuration: <IfModule mod_fastcgi.c> # One shared PHP-managed fastcgi for all sites Alias /fcgi /var/local/fcgi # IMPORTANT: without this we get more than one instance # of our wrapper, which itself spawns 20 PHP processes, so # that would be Bad (tm) FastCgiConfig -idle-timeout 20 -maxClassProcesses 1 <Directory /var/local/fcgi> # Use the + so we don't clobber other options that # may be needed. You might want FollowSymLinks here Options +ExecCGI </Directory> AddType application/x-httpd-php5 .php AddHandler fastcgi-script .fcgi Action application/x-httpd-php5 /fcgi/php-cgi-wrapper.fcgi </IfModule> Here's my fastcgi wrapper: #!/bin/sh PHPRC="/etc/php5/apache2" export PHPRC PHP_FCGI_CHILDREN=8 export PHP_FCGI_CHILDREN exec /usr/bin/php-cgi Any help would be very very much appreciated!

  • Why are SMART error rates going down?

    - by Jeff Shattock
I have a hard drive that's part of a Linux software raid5 array. SMART has reported that its multi_zone_error_rate was 0, then 1, then 3. So I figured I better start backing up more frequently and prepare to replace the drive. Now, today, the multi_zone_error_rate of that very same drive is back down to 1. It seems that 2 errors unhappened while I wasn't looking. I've also seen simliar behaviour by inspecting the syslog on the server. Jun 7 21:01:17 FS1 smartd[25593]: Device: /dev/sdc, SMART Usage Attribute: 7 Seek_Error_Rate changed from 200 to 100 Jun 7 21:01:17 FS1 smartd[25593]: Device: /dev/sde, SMART Usage Attribute: 7 Seek_Error_Rate changed from 200 to 100 Jun 7 21:01:18 FS1 smartd[25593]: Device: /dev/sdg, SMART Usage Attribute: 7 Seek_Error_Rate changed from 200 to 100 Jun 8 02:31:18 FS1 smartd[25593]: Device: /dev/sdg, SMART Usage Attribute: 7 Seek_Error_Rate changed from 100 to 200 Jun 8 03:01:17 FS1 smartd[25593]: Device: /dev/sdc, SMART Usage Attribute: 7 Seek_Error_Rate changed from 100 to 200 Jun 8 03:01:17 FS1 smartd[25593]: Device: /dev/sde, SMART Usage Attribute: 7 Seek_Error_Rate changed from 100 to 200 These are raw values, not the human-useful values that smartctl -a produces, but the behaviour is similar: error rates changing, then undoing the change. None of these are the drive that had the multi_zone weirdness. I haven't seen any problems from the RAID; its most recent scrub ( < 24 hours ago) came back totally clean. The only thing I can think of is that the SMART reporting circuitry on the drive isn't working properly all the time. The cables are in tight on the drive and board. What's going on here?

  • Green Bars in Visual Studio 2010

I am wondering what these greens things are in Visual Studio 2010. What are they for? They look pretty random but of course they have to have some meaning. Can any one tell me? At first glance they don't mean any thing to me. Picture 1: Picture 2: Edit: They show saved changed content during the document open. Once you close the document they disappear.

  • SBS DC DNS entries going missing?

    - by Chris W
I've been looking at a problem on a friends SBS (2003) server where the client PC's aren't able to connect to the server with a variety of errors reported. Checking the server itself the only indicator of an issue is an error 5782: Dynamic registration or deregistration of one or more DNS records failed with the following error: No DNS servers configured for the local system. Running a dcdiag reports that there are no DNS records registered for the DC so I fixed the problem by doing a netdiag /fix after which the dcdiag comes back clean and clients are ok again. It happened a few weeks ago as well and the same fix solved it. What are the possible causes of the DC DNS entries going missing? Is this a config option that needs tweaking or could it be solved by something simple like scheduling the SBS server to re-boot periodically? The only change they can think of that was made near to the time of the first instance of this problem occurring is that RRAS was started up to allow for a VPN connection from a home user. NB - The server is setup with a pair of NICs in a team so the server has a single virtual NIC providing both LAN/WAN connections to it. An external hardware firewall is in use rather than the windows firewall.

  • Suspending/Screen Going Off When Still In Use (Ubuntu & Arch)

    - by luke
I have a laptop (HP Pavilion G6) that was running Ubuntu and for a while now (at least 6 months) has been having a problems randomly suspending whilst still in use with a full battery and still being charged. Originally the problem was with Ubuntu so I first attempted to disable suspend using every way I could find (gui settings + dconf editor) this didn't work and it still kept suspending so I ended up switching to Arch Linux. Unfortunately not long after switching to Arch Linux I ended up experiencing the same problems. So yet again I modified the settings in /etc/systemd/logind.conf to prevent it from suspending and this time it worked, kind of. Now I am experiencing the screen going off and I have to change to a different tty (by using ctrl-alt-fx, which was something I also found I had to do sometimes when waking up from suspend in Ubuntu) to get the screen to go back on. The strange thing is this only happens when running a Linux distros and only occasionally (e.g. it may happen once/twice a week at most). But when it does happen it can happen multiple times in a row. And it only seems to happen when I am using it. This may just mean that it hasn't happened yet when I am not but generally if I leave it to run something or play a video it hasn't occurred only when I am using it regardless of which program I am using (e.g. it has occurred when using firefox, vim, even when using a virtualbox vm). At first I thought it could be the CPU temperature but after monitoring it I discovered it occurred a lot of the time when my CPU was less than 50 °C. I then checked /var/log/* but could not see anything related to it suspending only a few standard things from when it was woken up. I am really out of ideas and really hoping someone can help. Thanks in advance.

  • Nginx traffic is going to wrong upsteam when mixing named servers and default servers

How do I configure nginx to only send traffic for example.com to clustera and all the rest to clusterb? user www-data; worker_processes 1; error_log /var/log/nginx/error.log; pid /var/run/nginx.pid; events { worker_connections 1024; } http { include /etc/nginx/mime.types; log_format cache '\n*** $remote_addr [$time_local] ' '[$upstream_cache_status] $upstream_response_time ' '$host "$request" ($status) $body_bytes_sent ' '"$http_referer" "$http_user_agent" ' 'Cache-Control: $upstream_http_cache_control ' 'Expires: $upstream_http_expires ' ; access_log /var/log/nginx/access.log cache; sendfile on; keepalive_timeout 65; gzip on; gzip_vary on; gzip_comp_level 6; gzip_proxied any; gzip_disable "MSIE [1-6]\.(?!.*SV1)"; gzip_buffers 16 8k; include /etc/nginx/conf.d/*.conf; proxy_cache_key "$scheme$host$request_uri"; proxy_cache_path /var/cache/nginx levels=1:2 keys_zone=main:10m max_size=1g inactive=30m; upstream clustera { ip_hash; server a.example.com:80; } upstream clusterb { ip_hash; server b.example.com:80; } client_max_body_size 20m; client_body_buffer_size 128k; proxy_connect_timeout 300; proxy_send_timeout 300; proxy_read_timeout 300; # host for example.com should send traffic to clustera server { listen 80; server_name example.com; location ~*(png|jpeg|jpg|gif|ico|css|js)$ { proxy_pass http://clustera; proxy_set_header Host $host; proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; proxy_cache main; proxy_cache_valid 200 5m; proxy_cache_valid 302 1m; } location / { proxy_pass http://clustera; proxy_set_header Host $host; proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; } } # host for everyone else. traffic goes to clusterb server { listen 80; server_name _; if ( $http_user_agent ~* (spider|crawler|slurp) ) { return 503; } set $slow 0; if ( $http_user_agent ~* (bot) ) { set $slow 1; } if ( $slow ) { set $limit_rate 1k; } location ~*(png|jpeg|jpg|gif|ico|css|js)$ { proxy_pass http://clusterb; proxy_set_header Host $host; proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; proxy_cache main; proxy_cache_valid 200 5m; proxy_cache_valid 302 1m; } location /images { proxy_pass http://clisterb; proxy_set_header Host $host; proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; proxy_cache main; proxy_cache_valid 200 5m; proxy_cache_valid 302 1m; } location / { proxy_pass http://clusterb; proxy_set_header Host $host; proxy_set_header X-Real-IP $remote_addr; proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; } } }

  • W7 routing - traffic not going to default gateway

    - by Ian Macintosh
    I have a really strange Windows 7 IPv4 routing issue that I can't get to the bottom of. The summary of the issue is that the default gateway is set to 192.168.254.253, but that it is actually using a default gateway of 192.168.254.254. Here's a network diagram: .-,( ),-. .-( )-. .-----( internet )----.--------------------------. | '-( ).-' | | | '-.( ).-' | | v v v .------------. .------. .------. | 10mb Fibre | | ADSL | | ADSL | '------------' '------' '------' | | | | | | v v v .---------------------. .--------------------. .--------------------. | Juniper Box | | Draytek DSL Router | | Draytek DSL Router | |---------------------| |--------------------| |--------------------| | (public IP address) | | 172.16.0.x | | 172.16.0.x | '---------------------' '--------------------' '--------------------' | | | | | .-------------------' | v v v .-------------------------. .-----------------. | Draytek Dual WAN Router | | Untangle GW | |-------------------------| |-----------------| | 192.168.254.254 | | 192.168.254.253 | '-------------------------' '-----------------' | | | | | v v =================================== LAN =================================== | | | | v v .----------------. .----------------. | Windows 7 W/S | | Windows 7 W/S | |----------------| |----------------| | 192.168.254.38 | | 192.168.254.77 | '----------------' '----------------' This is a recently (a few weeks ago) converted fibre site with the original 2 DSL lines still attached and running. I've not inspected the traffic yet. In particular, I was going to look for ICMP redirects, though why there would be an ICMP redirect at all is not really sensible? .254 used to be the default gateway before the fibre was installed. Any ideas? Doesn't make sense to me why there should be this routing issue :( The Draytek Dual WAN Router was rebooted, the PC was rebooted. The PC had the network disabled and then re-enabled. All the standard stuff when Windows looses the plot. Hopefully somebody recognises the symptoms! PS: Sorry for the long post, but I didn't want to leave something potentially relevant out. PPS: No iSCSI involved on/at this or any other workstation so Windows 7 routing traffic through the gateway for local addresses isn't the issue.

  • Generate colors between red and green for a power meter?

    - by Simucal
I'm writing a java game and I want to implement a power meter for how hard you are going to shoot something. I need to write a function that takes a int between 0 - 100, and based on how high that number is, it will return a color between Green (0 on the power scale) and Red (100 on the power scale). Similar to how volume controls work: What operation do I need to do on the Red, Green, and Blue components of a color to generate the colors between Green and Red? So, I could run say, getColor(80) and it will return an orangish color (its values in R, G, B) or getColor(10) which will return a more Green/Yellow rgb value. I know I need to increase components of the R, G, B values for a new color, but I don't know specifically what goes up or down as the colors shift from Green-Red. Progress: I ended up using HSV/HSB color space because I liked the gradiant better (no dark browns in the middle). The function I used was (in java): public Color getColor(double power) { double H = power * 0.4; // Hue (note 0.4 = Green, see huge chart below) double S = 0.9; // Saturation double B = 0.9; // Brightness return Color.getHSBColor((float)H, (float)S, (float)B); } Where "power" is a number between 0.0 and 1.0. 0.0 will return a bright red, 1.0 will return a bright green. Java Hue Chart: Thanks everyone for helping me with this!

  • Auto-execute command after going to a folder with the CD command

    - by Patrick
Is it possible to auto-execute a command in a folder if you move to it via the cd command? Of course I can define my own command (e.g. CHD.BAT) doing something like this: @echo off cd %1 if exist init.bat ( init.bat ) else ( color 0F title Command Prompt ) But I wonder if something like this would be possible using the standard CD command.

  • Exim forwards not going out through TLS

    - by Blake
I'm trying to get Exim to use STARTTLS to send emails that are just FORWARDS. I have a server accepting email at example-accepting.com for users. So I want [email protected] to forward all email to [email protected]. If I do this from the command like on example-accepting.com... echo "test" | mail -s "ssl/tls test" [email protected] Success!! Sent via TLS BUT, if I send an email to [email protected] the forward fails, it's NOT being sent via TLS. I've tried both forwarding the email via /etc/aliases and the user .forward file. The email is indeed sent, but NOT via TLS. Why is it when I run "mail" from the command like it's working like it should, but a .forward is not using TLS? Thanks

  • DisableCrossAccountCopy not working on some Outlook installs, working on others, both going against Exchange

    - by MikeBaz
As part of a mail migration project from one Exchange organization to another, we need to be able to prevent users from moving/copying messages between their accounts in each organization. (Yes, users will think this is evil; no, it's not my decision; yes, users will hate us.) Luckily, we thought, Outlook 2010 provides the DisableCrossAccountCopy registry value/policy (cf. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff800883.aspx). (Because you can't do multiple Exchange organizations in a single profile before Outlook 2010, this only matters on Outlook 2010. Yes, I'm ignoring for the sake of this question copy/move to/from the filesystem.) In our test lab, in a test forest with a test Exchange organization, with a second Exchange account added to the profile in either of the "real" Exchange organizations, with the value set to "*", everything works as expected. On a workstation in one of the production domains, however, the setting does not seem to work. We have tried it under HKCU, HKLM, HKCU\Software\Policies, and HKLM\Software\Policies. It simply seems to be ignored. The value was set in the OCT on a test machine, but the OCT (and the ADM/ADMX file) have the wrong type for the value. We have located the value in the registry and removed it everywhere it is found, we think, and put it back in HKCU, but it still isn't taking. At the moment, a clean Outlook install is not an option - even if it was, we at this point would need to know what to do to fix the pushed copy (I didn't push the copy out to thousands of machines, I've just been asked to help clean up the current mess). Thoughts?

  • copSHH how to restrict user from going back from there main root

    - by minus4
I have installed SFTP on a windows servers using copSSH and all is good and it works well however you can go back from the main root. For example when i use C:\copSSH\home{username} as that user i can go back into copSSH and into them directories too. And I have a user setup to actually be C:\inetpub\wwwroot but that user can go into the system and everything i have this set as my path /cygdrive/c/inetpub/wwwroot It would be ideal if the user could only go forward from the start directory, rather than out and about there is no write ability but there is read and download....... thanks
