  • When should I use $ (and can it always be replaced with parentheses)?

    - by J Cooper
From what I'm reading, $ is described as "applies a function to its arguments." However, it doesn't seem to work quite like (apply ...) in Lisp, because it's a binary operator, so really the only thing it looks like it does is help to avoid parentheses sometimes, like foo $ bar quux instead of foo (bar quux). Am I understanding it right? Is the latter form considered "bad style"?

  • Unclickable Seekbar in android listview

    - by cppdev
Hi, I have a Listview in my application. Listview rows are clickable. I have introduced a seek bar in each row of a Listview. Despite settings android:clickable="false" for Seekbar in layout xml, I am still able to click on it and move seek bar as desired. I don't want Seekbar to be clickbale but I do want Listview row to clickable. Any pointers will be appreciated.

  • Fixed top navigation element and anchors

    - by elmarco
With the following CSS, anchor links end up being hidden by the navigation bar. What solution would you proposed to have the anchor link text being shown just under it? /* style and size the navigation bar */ table.navigation#top { position: fixed; margin-top: 0; margin-bottom: 0; top: 0; left: 0; z-index: 10; } thanks

  • Generic Rails Route Representation?

    - by Flemish Bee Cycle
Given one or more instances of a model (AR or DM, whatever). Is it possible to generate the route in the requirement form, by which I mean "/foos/:id" Given the route: resource :foo do resource :bar end generate_route_method [@foo,@bar] - "/foos/:id/bars/:id" I'm not talking about #foos_path or #polymorphic_path, rather, literally generating the string containing the wildcard components (i.e ":id"), the same as it would appear as if you did "rake routes".

  • dual map structure implementation?

    - by Danra
Hey, I'm looking for a standard dual-map structure - is there one implemented in std/boost/another standard C++ library? When I say "dual-map" I mean a map which can be indexed efficiently both by the key and the "value" (it actually has two key types instead of one key type and one value type). for example: dualmap<int, string> m; m[1] = "foo"; m["bar"] = 2 int a = m["bar"]; // a = 2 Thanks, Dan

  • How to use the Value of a Selected Value from a DropDownList populated with AJAX/PHP

    - by mouthpiec
    Hi, I have form with two dropdownlists (lets say A and B). When I select a value from A, B is being populated accordingly using AJAX In the same page I have a button, that when pressed, posts the values of the selected items of the dropdownlists to another PHP page. The problem I am having is that the selected value of B is returned as Blank/Empty. Is there a way to store the selected value of a dropdownlist populated using AJAX? Code below: (Main FORM) <form name="NewBar" method="post" onsubmit="return validateFormOnSubmit(this)" action="AssignContactDetailToBar_f.php"> <tr> <td width="150"><b>Bar:</b></td> <td> <select name = "bar" onChange="getContact('AssignContactDetailToBar_f_getContacts.php?bar='+this.value)" size = 1 style = "width:190px"> <option value = "">---Select---</option> <?php while ($data = mysql_fetch_array($r_getBarsDetails)) { echo "<option value=\"".$data['bar_id']."\">".$data['bar_name']." (".$data['town_name'].")</option>"; } ?> </td> </tr> <tr> <td width="150"><b>Contact Person:</b></td> <td> <div id="persondiv"><select name = "person" size = 1 style = "width:190px"> <option value = "">--Select Bar--</option> </td> </tr> <tr> <td> <input name="security" type="text" size="15"> </td> <td> <input type="submit" name="Submit" value="Submit"> </td> </tr> </form> FORM to populate the 2nd Dropdownlist <select name="person" size = 1 style = "width:190px"> <option value = "">--Select Person--</option> <?php while($data=mysql_fetch_array($result)) { echo "<option value=\"".$data['person_id']."\">".$data['person_name']." ".$data['person_surname']." (".$data['town_name'].")</option>"; } ?> if you would like to see the complete code download from here

  • Calling 32 bit unmanaged dlls from C# randomly failing

    - by Bert
Hi, I'm having an issue when calling 32 bit delphi dll's from c# web site. The code generally runs fine, but occasionally I get an error Unable to load DLL '': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E). This issue persists until I recycle the app pool for the site, and then it works fine again. On the same server, there is also a web service that is calling the same set of dlls. This web service doesn't seem to have the same issue that the web site has. Both applications are using .net framework 3.5, separate app pools on IIS. Here is the code I'm using to wrap the dlls: public sealed class Mapper { static Mapper instance = null; [DllImport("kernel32.dll")] private static extern bool SetDllDirectory(string lpPathName); private Mapper() { SetDllDirectory(ConfigManager.Path); } public static Mapper Instance { get { if (instance == null) { instance = new Mapper(); } return instance; } } public int Foo(string bar, ref double val) { return Loader.Foo(bar, ref val); } } public static class Loader { [DllImport("some.dll", CallingConvention = CallingConvention.StdCall, CharSet = CharSet.Unicode, EntryPoint = "foo")] public static extern int Foo(string bar, ref double val); } Then I call it like this: double val = 0.0; Mapper.Instance.Foo("bar", ref val); Any ideas as to why it would "randomly" Unable to load DLL '': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E). The other problem is that I haven't been able to replicate the issue in the development environment. I thought that due to 2 applications calling the same dlls, that there could be some locks occurring. To replicate this, I created an app that spawned multiple threads and repeatedly called the 32bit dlls, and then used the web site to call these same dlls. I still couldn't replicate the issue. Some possible fixes that I can think of: Wrap the 32 bit dlls in web service (because the webservice doesn't seem to suffer from the same problem). But this may be worthless if it turns out that the web service also fails. Set up state server for the session state and periodically recycle the app pool for the site. This isn't fixing the problem, only avoiding it. Wrap the dll's in exe, and call that exe. Then I shouldn't get the same issue. But this also seems like a hacky solution. Implement the mapper class differently ? But how else should I be doing the call? The other draw back is that other applications are using this mapper, so I'd need to change there code too. Thanks

  • Usage of @specialized in traits

    - by paradigmatic
I have a trait and an implementation looking like: trait Foo[A] { def bar[B >: A: Ordering]: Foo[B] } class FooImpl[A]( val a: A, val values: List[Foo[A]] ) extends Foo[A] { def bar[B >: A] = { /* concrete implementation */} } I would like to use the @specialized annotation on A and B to avoid autoboxing. Do I need to use it in both trait and implementation, only in implementation, or only in trait ?

  • Using the slash character in Git branch name

    - by faB
I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere in a popular Git project the branches had a pattern like "feature/xyz". However when I try to create a branch with the slash character, I get an error: $ git branch foo/bar error: unable to resolve reference refs/heads/labs/feature: Not a directory fatal: Failed to lock ref for update: Not a directory Same problem for (my initial attempt): $ git checkout -b foo/bar How does one create a branch in Git with the slash character?

  • determining name of object loaded in R

    - by andrewj
Imagine you have an object foo that you saved as saved.file.rda as follows: foo <- 'a' save(foo, file='saved.file.rda') Suppose you load saved.file.rda into an environment with multiple objects but forgot the name of the object that is in saved.file.rda. Is there a way in R to determine that name? You can do it the following way, which seems a little clunky: bar <- load('saved.file.rda') eval(parse(text=bar)) # this will pull up the object that was in saved.file.rda However, is there a better way of doing this?

  • Why is my Interface Builder wiring so bonkers and what can I do to straighten it out?

    - by editor
    I've been working on an iPhone application in XCode and Interface Builder of the Tab Bar project type. After getting a table view of topics (business sectors) working fine I realized that I would need to add a Navigation Control to allow the user to drill into a subtopics (subsectors) table. As a green Objective-C developer, that was confusing, but I managed to get it working by reading various documentation trying out a few different IB options. My current setup is a Tab Bar Controller with Tab 1 as a Navigation Controller and Tab 2 a plain view with a Table View placed into it. The wiring works: I can log when table rows are selected and I'm ready to push a new View Controller onto the stack so that I can display the subtopics Table View. My problem: For some reason the first tab's Table View is a delegate and dataSource of the second ta. It doesn't make sense to me and I can't figure out why that's the only setup that works. Here is the wiring: Navigation Controller (Sectors) is a delegate of Tab Bar Navigation Bar is a delegate of Navigation Controller (Sectors) View Contoller (Sectors) has a view of Table View Table View (in Navigation Controller (Sectors)) is a delegate of First View Controller (Companies) Table View (in Navigation Controller (Sectors)) is a dataSource outlet of First View Controller (Companies) First View Controller (Companies) First View Contoller (Sectors) has a view of Table View Table View (in First View Controller (Companies)) is not hooked up to a dataSource outlet and is not a delegate When I click the tab buttons and look at the Inspector I see that the first tab is correctly hooked up to my MainWindow.xib and the second tab has selected a nib called SecondView.xib. It's in the File's Owner of MainWindow.xib where I inherit UITableViewDataSource and UITableViewDelegate (and also UITabBarControllerDelegate) in the .h, and in the .m where I implement the delegate methods. Why does this setup only work when the Table View in my first tab (View Controller (Sectors)) is a delegate and dataSource of the second tab? I'm confused: why wouldn't it need to be hooked up to the Navigation Controller-enabled tab in which the Table View is seen (Navigation Controller (Sectors))? The Table View seen on the second tab has neither dataSource and is not a delegate. I'm having trouble getting a pushViewController to fire (self.navigationController is not nil but the new View Controller still doesn't load) and I suspect that I need to work out this IB wiring issue before I can troubleshoot why the Nav Controller won't push a new View Controller onto the stack. if(nil == self.navigationController) { NSLog(@"self.navigationController is nil."); } else { NSLog(@"self.navigationController is not nil."); SectorList *subsectorViewController = [[SectorList alloc] initWithNibName:@"SectorList" bundle:nil]; subsectorViewController.title = @"Subsectors"; [[self navigationController] pushViewController:subsectorViewController animated:YES]; [subsectorViewController release]; }

  • Best practise for overriding static classes

    - by maxp
As it is not possible to override a static class in c#, if i want to override a method I generally define a delegate matching the signature of the static method, then modify the method along the lines of: public static void foo(int bar) { if (delegatename!=null) { delegatename.Invoke(bar); } else { //execute previous code as normal } } I feel a twinge of guilt, knowing this is a bit messy. Can anyone suggest a neater solution to this problem (other than rewriting the original structure)

  • Use hash or case-statement [Ruby]

    - by user94154
Generally which is better to use?: case n when 'foo' result = 'bar' when 'peanut butter' result = 'jelly' when 'stack' result = 'overflow' return result or map = {'foo' => 'bar', 'peanut butter' => 'jelly', 'stack' => 'overflow'} return map[n] More specifically, when should I use case-statements and when should I simply use a hash?

  • Queuing methods to be run on an object by different threads in Python

    - by Ben
Let's say I have an object who's class definition looks like: class Command: foo = 5 def run(self, bar): time.sleep(1) self.foo = bar return self.foo If this class is instantiated once, but different threads are hitting its run method (via an HTTP request, handled separately) passing in different args, what is the best method to queue them? Can this be done in the class definition itself?
