  I recently installed DHCP on my 2008R2 Server and now Backup Exec and WBAdmin/WSB is having System State issues. Essentially, after some research, I came across a handy tool called VSHADOW which has allowed me to output all the files (and their respective directories) to a text file. However I can't find where I would change this path, I assume in the registry but I've had no luck finding the key !

• Enterprise online backup providers

  We've used Iron Mountain's LiveVault service but found that it was only good for file level backups. We liked how it backed up every 15 minutes. It doesn't support Exchange 2007-10 and the web interface was very poor. Who else is everyone using? The most notable names in online backup such as Mozy and Carbonite don't really seem suitable for larger companies. We have SQL, Exchange and Sharepoint servers and are looking to virtualize in the near future. Until then bare metal restore capability would be nice. We are currently using Backup Exec 12.5 but that can be so troublesome at times. We have about 2 TB of data. 1TB is archival data.

  Hi, Can somebody tell me how to rename the DB server instance name and a DB name in SQL Server 2005? Right Now I Have SERVER/OLDNAME -- oldnameDB I want to change the server instance and also change the db name. I have tried: EXEC sp_renamedb 'oldName', 'newName' and that has changed the dbname as it appers in the tree directory. But, when I do "select @@servername" it is the old name. Also, the MDF and LDF files are still the old name. How do change instance and db names as a clean sweep across the server? Thanks.

• Assisting a user using VNC

  I'm trying to help a friend with their computer remotely. He has a version of VNC, I'm not sure which one, so I downloaded and installed the VNC Viewer and Listening Viewer. I ask my friend for his IP address and port number, and he tells me that every time he's used it, the person giving him assistance (remotely controlling his computer) gave him some kind of number. I should note that my friend is not tech savy, and it may have been an IP address, but I'm not sure. What kind of number would the user be looking for? Does this indicate his version of VNC, Does that even matter? I am completly forign to VNC and don't know where to begin looking for an answer myself, and (for whatever reason) I can't ask my friend to figure out what version of VNC he is using.

• If USB is not listed in BIOS as a boot option, does that mean the machine can't boot from USB?

  I just purchased an Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A-DH51 with Windows 8. I want to wipe the drive and do a clean install but USB is not listed as a boot option in the BIOS. Does this mean it is not possible? Here is a photo of my BIOS options. This is the only option I get when I click Add New Boot Option. Not sure if I can add USB here. * Update * Asus tech emailed and said: "Unfortunately with Windows 8 you can not boot from bios."

• How to query a DHCP server to get the local DNS servers

  I have a ClarkConnect (CentOS based) box running as my home router on a RR connection. I had the DNS servers set up to use Google's DNS server. I want to change them back to the local DNS servers but I can't find an obvious/easy way to get those address short of a) reconfiguring the router's network to DHCP them (would rather not interrupt everyone) or b) calling their tech support (kill me now!). Is there a command line tool/command I can use to query the DHCP server on the external NIC to see what DNS servers it would set me up with w/o munging my existing setup?

• Orange Brightbox and NO-IP.com

  Strange one here i didnt know where to ask, and i know this is a developer resource but i was hoping with everyones tech know how someone may have a solution for my problem. Ok i had an orange livebox before and in the dynamic dns settings it had no-ip.com as a drop down option with login variables to update my account with a dynamic ip address. This worked great for years. However my livebox died and i now have a orange brightbox, and this doesnt have no-ip.com as a login update option for dynamic dns on my router. Does any one have any idea how i can get my domain to point to my home server with a dynamic ip address ideally for free? This is merely for testing and to have a backup server for my main remote server.

  Arch Linux doesn't have sendmail installed by default. So I get the following messages in my syslog: Sep 15 13:16:01 zorro crond[18497]: mailing cron output for user collectors sh cronjob.sh Sep 15 13:16:01 zorro crond[18497]: unable to exec /usr/sbin/sendmail: cron output for user collectors sh cronjob.sh to /dev/null What is the recommended way to fix this default behaviour so actual messages are sent? heirloom-mailx is installed and capable of sending email messages using SMTP. Is it possible for crond to use mailx to send notifications? Is there any drop-in replacement for sendmail that sends using mailx? Sendmail is not even in the repositories.

While I was talking to dell tech., he told me that Dell would charge me for the replacement monitor if I fail to return my defective monitor within 15 days. I don't know why he told me that when I didn't ask it. so here is my question. How are they going to charge me?? Dell does not have my credit card or bank account info. Do they store my credit card or bank account information on their database???

  I found a guide for setting up a bridge in Fedora and was trying this: $ nmcli connection delete p33p1 $ nmcli connection add con-name br0 type bridge ifname br0 autoconnect yes $ nmcli connection add con-name p33p1 type bridge-slave ifname p33p1 master br0 autoconnect yes I found that $ nmcli con delete uuid [uuid here] accomplished the first step. nmcli connection does not have an 'add' action in this distribution. Please help me do the 2nd and 3rd steps. Context: I am trying to set up a virtual machine. I believe this is a necessary step for the VM to access my network and the internet.   I'm not sure if this is a stackoverflow question or serverfault but here goes: I have an Ubuntu 10.04 file server (Samba/FTP/HTTP) and I would like to have the ability to give users the ability to change their password to the server using their web browser. I've written a similar script before using PHP and a mess of exec but I believe that isn't secure because it can be listened to by someone looking at the list of processes on the server. Is there some kind of plugin (PHP or Python or other) that can do this easily? I rather not use something like webmin as it's overkill for this.

  I'm currently using this script line to find all the log files from a given directory structure and copy them to another directy where I can easily compress them. find . -name "*.log" -exec cp \{\} /tmp/allLogs/ \; The problem I have, is, the directory/subdirectory information gets lost because, I'm copying only the file. For instance I have: ./product/install/install.log ./product/execution/daily.log ./other/conf/blah.log And I end up with: /tmp/allLogs/install.log /tmp/allLogs/daily.log /tmp/allLogs/blah.log And I would like to have: /tmp/allLogs/product/install/install.log /tmp/allLogs/product/execution/daily.log /tmp/allLogs/other/conf/blah.log

I want to iterate over all users (in users.csv), and in their home folder (e.g. /home/joe) find all php files recursively, and replace each occurrence of "commondb" with their own databasename, e.g. "joedb" for "joe". • Cisco NAT + IPSec + Web Server Configuration Question

  Hello - I currently have a Cisco 881W, and it is configured with one of our static IPs to do basic NAT for the network. We also have a web server that needs it's own IP. I configured the NAT for the 2nd IP, however now traffic through our IPSec VPN doesn't route to the web server properly (well, it routes to the internet, rather than through the Tunnel). I followed the instructions here: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk583/tk372/technologies_configuration_example09186a0080094634.shtml But now the outbound NAT doesn't seem to be working properly - it keeps going to the NAT of the Cisco, and not the designated IP address.   I'm looking for a CLI tool which will watch a directory and spit out the names of files that change in real time. some_watch_command /path/to/some/folder | xargs some_callback I'm aware of inotify (inotify-tools?) and it seems to be what I need, but I need something that is both Linux (in my case Ubuntu) and OSX compatible. It doesn't need to be lightning fast, but it does need to trigger upon changes (within a second is reasonable). Also, I don't necessarily need the exact CLI program mentioned above. If some underlying tech exists and is easily scriptable on both platforms that would be great too.

• Outlook 2007 disconnecting after sending email to specific email

  So when a user emails another tech in my domain they get the prompt for username/password as though they got disconnected. I have not seen any issues in the event logs, tried deleting the email address from his auto correct, ran Outlook in safe mode and searched online as well. I am kind of lost. Checked the event logs on the exchange server as well in the security and still nothing. Exchange 2010, Client OS: Vista x64, Outlook 2007. Thanks!

• greengeeks drupal install imagemagik 'path /usr/bin/convert' does not exists error

  I just signed up with greengeeks. I have a drupal install (6.19) on my public_html directory. The ImageMagic Toolkit can't find the binary - the error I get is "the path /usr/bin/convert" does not exist. when I use a terminal and do 'which convert' it shows /usr/bin/convert also, I have a second drupal install in an addon domain - it's home directory is above the public_html directory (in a directory called '/home/myusername/addons/seconddomain') The drupal install in the addon domain finds the imagemagick binary just fine. I am at a total loss as to why the original install cannot find the binary. The tech support guys at greengeeks have no clue either. Any ideas of things to try?

• Can't connect back to the wireless network after the password was changed

  Family changed the network password and some other network settings after new computers were brought into the house because apparently they wouldn't work with what we had. Actually an off-site tech remotely changed it, and I have no idea what he did. My laptop detects the network (it shows up under available networks) but whenever I try to connect it says: Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks, and try to connect again. I wish I could give more details, config settings, but frankly I have no idea what I'm looking for. This is XP (also, not a password issue, I know the password, it's just that I have no idea where to enter it, etc.)

• Will I have internet connection issues next day, if I unplug router at night?

  I did this regularly a few years ago and used to feel like I was 'being punished' by the Interent svc provider for disabling access to my computer, because trying to re-connect the next day became a constant pain. I have the same linksys router, a comcast modem, and hi-speed broadband through their LAN. Question: who or what is at fault for lousy internet connections, slow connections, or no connections: (everybody's tech dept. blames everybody else) The router? 10 year olds, maybe obsolete? The modem? came with the service plan - can connect three devices on a sharedconnection. The ISP: I read they not only even control and completely regulate bandwidth usage, but they also ration it!! (true?) So can I safely 'pull the plug' each night for security or not? thnx

  I have always been able to connect to every wireless router secured or unsecured wep or wpa. I had Fios installed and could not connect. Verizon suggested it was my computer and gave me an outside wirless drive to use, it worked. I got rid of fios and went back to comcast and threw out the drive, but now 2 years later, I am sitting at my friends house haveing the same problem. My tech savy friend told me it is a firewall setting or something in my antivirus software, but I disabled them both and still nothing works........Funny it is only FIOS

  TLDR I want toggle between the following usages of a usb-port via the terminal: use like a normal usb-port only supply energy to charge Story I recently got me something like a magna doodle that can save your drawings to pdf, which can be moved to your computer via usb afterwards. Now the thing is that you can't save anything while it's plugged in. Because it's the only way to charge it, it bugs me that I can't find a software solution and laziness I want to keep it plugged in and toggle the connection to the computer only when needed. I noticed that it's charging and usable when it is plugged in and the computer is shut down or suspened. So I guess that there's a way to do it. • Knife leaves stray processes on my system

  I'm seeing stray knife processes on my system. I have an automated ruby script that runs bundle exec knife bootstrap against various nodes. Most of the time the knife process completes and goes away, but sometimes it stays for days. I'm noticing it days later in ps aux I think it's related to the target node being down when knife runs. The chef server timeout is high, so the action completes eventually when the node goes back up, but I think knife may give up or hang somehow during the wait. Is there something I can do about the stray knife processes? Does knife have timeout settings separate from the chef server's timeout settings?
