  First of all I'm 26 and I'm asking this question because I want to see how do you manage your time. Also I'm interested how do the programmers with a family(wife, several kids) manage their time. I'm asking this due the fact that I'm working aprox 7,5 hours at work (9 to 5), spent 1,5 hours on the way to/from workplace, and when I'm home I must cook/clean/etc and LEARN! And I have the impression that I don't have enough time to learn. Did you have a period similar in your life? To want to learn another language/improve your development/other skills? I saw here and on SO that there are a lot of peoples with +10k points, this in my mind means that they stay on blogs/forums more than 15 hours a day. It builds upon the first milestone and adds several new features such as server-side asynchronous processing, server-side content negotiation, improved JAX-RS parameter injection, and several others. The REST endpoints can be published on Java SE HTTP Server, Grizzly 2 HTTP container, and some basic Servlet-based deployments. It also provides HTTPURLConnection-based client API implementation. Read about these and more about what's new in Marek's detailed post. Of course this is also the future reference implementation for JAX-RS 2.0. Feel like trying it out? Simply go to Maven Central (of course none of this is production quality at this point). The latest JAX-RS Javadocs and Jersey 2.0 API docs are good starting points to explore.   Hello, I'm watching The Bold and the beautiful on the site: http://www.tvp.pl/seriale/obyczajowe/moda-na-sukces/wideo Yesterday I wanted to view next episode, however it didn't work. I checked various episodes from other points in time and none works. The "dots" that appear when a Silverlight video is loading are present, but after them there is only black screen (of death). I'm using Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 32 bit with GNOME2 and firefox 3.6. I have all updates done. Could somebody check if any video is working for them and tell me their setup, please? Best regards. Oliverka

• Why do I need to republish a file when I update it?

  The story is: I am coding a program and at the same time, i want to share it with my group members using ubuntu. They don't have an Ubuntu One account and what I do is to publish the file and my friends just get the link and the file. But, strangely or not, every time I upload a new version of this file (I add more code and save it), the used link seems to be "outdated" and I need to publish the same file again and to get a new link every time i modify the same file. Couldn't it be possible to save a new version of your file and the same link just "points" to the newer version?

  I've been programming in PHP for about a year and am at the following stage: Have a good 'feel' for the language Can create CRUD applications competently Can utilize an MVC structure to allow for future expansion of code Using the points listed above, I've created a number of my own applications for practise - including but not limited to; a forum, social network etc. My question may be a little vague but should hopefully be answerable. I feel as though there isn't anything else I would need to know about PHP to allow me to create websites, though I'm sure I'm wrong. What advanced/complex PHP topics could I look at that have a real-world use and will allow me to enhance both my skill as a programmer and applications in general? Recently I've looked a lot more at javascript/jQuery allowing me to give my applications a richer user interface which has been a great learning experience and proving very useful.

  Is there any hard data (studies, comparisons, not-just-gut-feel analysis) on the advantages and disadvantages of working from home? My devs asked about e.g. working from home one day per week, the boss doesn't like it for various reasons, some of which I agree with but I think they don't necessarily apply in this case. We have real offices (2..3 people each), distractions are still common. IMO it would be beneficial for focus, and with 1 day / week, there wouldn't be much loss at interaction and communication. To clarify: it's not my decision to make, I agree that there are pro's and con's depending on circumstances, and we are pushing for "just try it".   Let's assume we have an XmlDoc class that contains basic functionality for dealing with an XML data structure and saving/loading data to/from a file. Now we have several subclasses, A, B and C. They all inherit from XmlDoc and add component-specific methods for setting and getting lots of data. They are like "interfaces" but also add an implementation for the signatures. Finally, we have an ABCDoc class that joins all the "interfaces" via virtual multiple inheritence and adds some ABCDoc-specific stuff, such as using XMLDoc-methods to set an appropriate doc type. We may also have an ADoc class for only saving A data. How is this pattern called? "Interface" is not really the right word since interfaces usually do not contain an implementation. Bonus points for C++ code conventions.

• Adding more OR searches with CONTAINS Brings Query to Crawl

  I have a simple query that relies on two full-text indexed tables, but it runs extremely slow when I have the CONTAINS combined with any additional OR search. As seen in the execution plan, the two full text searches crush the performance. If I query with just 1 of the CONTAINS, or neither, the query is sub-second, but the moment you add OR into the mix the query becomes ill-fated. The two tables are nothing special, they're not overly wide (42 cols in one, 21 in the other; maybe 10 cols are FT indexed in each) or even contain very many records (36k recs in the biggest of the two). I was able to solve the performance by splitting the two CONTAINS searches into their own SELECT queries and then UNION the three together. Is this UNION workaround my only hope? Thanks. In the function header used in the solution MEDIAN -SEARCH (A[1 . . l], B[1 . . m], max(1,n/2 - m), min(l, n/2)) I do not understand the last two arguments why not simply 1, l why the max and min respectively. • Rotate 2d sprite towards pointer

  I'm using Crafty.js and am trying to point a sprite towards the mouse pointer. I have a function for getting the degree between two points and I'm pretty sure it works mathematically (I have it under unit tests). At least it responds that the degree between { 0,0} and {1,1} is 45, which seems right. However, when I set the sprite rotation to the returned degree, it's just wrong all the time. If I manually set it to 90, 45, etc, it gets the right direction.. I have a jsfiddle that shows what I've done so far. Any ideas?

  I am in the beginning of programming an iOS app. Having read the Apple guides on how to deal with errors, I got the following most important points: Exceptions are for programmers Use NSError for the user Now, NSError is usually passed as out-argument which can then be used inside and has to be checked by the caller. However, I'm asking myself whether it is a good idea to use a global error handler, say a singleton which wraps around NSError and could be used to trigger errors and error handling from within the called function. Is there anything against that method or would it be a bad practice?

  I am interested in studying algorithms and my strong points are problem-solving and logical thinking. However what I am guided toward is web-developing languages, SQL and they seem to not exploit the best out of me. I think it's because lots of people can learn these things easily, even steal ideas and copy code. Is that wrong? I was told that "learning algorithms is just for optimization, so you just need to know it (not a deep understanding)", but I think algorithms are my savior; it differentiates one man's abilities from others'. Also I'm learning C++ to benefit my future career. Many people say that web developer is a future trend, which worries me. I don't know what I need to standout in my career, and should I balance between web and software developing or just one? Should I work hard on algorithms?

  Hi there, I have an iframe with id "appframe", the source is page.html and it's on the same server. I want to get the source of the page using jQuery. alert($("#appframe").contents().find("html").html()); returns <head></head><body></body> even though the document does not contain those tags, it only contains "Default page", so that is exactly what it should return. Any idea how to get the right source script of the whole document using jQuery? Eg. if the document would be "test" then that is exactly what it should return. Please note: I did ask this before a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, I got no solving answer. Because of my lower reputation (~85), I can not request a bounty... This doesn't make much sense to me. Anyway, it forced me to repost this question.

Network menu does not show wireless access points, but according to syslog it establishes connection. Also, the wireless router provides IP address to the host. I don't want to spend time on debugging and solving the problem that most probably will reappear with new update, so I decided to reinstall 12.10 version. It recognized Broadcom Wi-Fi modem right after the boot, and everything went great, until today I powered it on and suddenly found that it is running 13.4 and all my problems are back! Is it possible to instruct it to stay with 12.10 until I decide to upgrade?
