  • Is Ubuntu Touch a separate distribution or the same one?

    I would like to install the latest Ubuntu Touch on a 2013 Nexus 7 tablet. Which version should I be looking for: the regular Ubuntu (for ARM platform) or a separate Ubuntu Touch? I understand that after Ubuntu Touch is in frantic development, but I would like to be able to keep track which one is which. I can see the following images: Ubuntu 14.09 RTM, daily-preinstalled Ubuntu Touch 14.10 (Utopic Unicorn) Daily Build Ubuntu 14.10 (Utopic Unicorn) Daily Build, but only i386 and amd64; no ARM. Does it mean that ARM variant has moved to one of the first two links?

    When I try to login to Ubuntu 10.10 I get a flickering screen for a second showing - Ubuntu 10.10 ............. and then I get a blank purple coloured screen[Ubuntu's theme colour] which doesn't progress any further Can anybody suggest a remedy to this problem? From whatever questions I searched in various Ubuntu Forums it seems like this problem is likely caused by a missing NVIDIA Display Driver[which is being used in my Sony Vaio Laptop] update in Ubuntu releases If that's the case then how can I update my NVIDIA Display Driver for Ubuntu 10.10 without being able to log into the Ubuntu 10.10?

    I said I would tackle documenting some of the new features in the 10.1.3.4.1 roll up patch I mentioned last week. With the patch you can now set the default state of bookmarks (if you create them) in your PDF outputs. If your users prefer to see them all collapsed to the base level or may be collapsed to the second level to ease navigation; whatever they need. Its another opportunity for you to look like a star! You of course need to start with a table of contents; then add the convert|copy to bookmarks command. You can then add the new collapse command to set the appropriate level in the bookmarks. <?copy-to-bookmark:?> <?collapse-bookmark:show;2?> <<< Table of Contents >>> <?end convert-to-bookmark?> The command allows you to expand or collapse the bookmarks as you need. Of course you will know how many levels you will have in the final output document. The command takes the form: <?collapse-bookmark:show|hide;level int?> Some examples <?collapse-bookmark:hide;1?> <?collapse-bookmark:hide;2?> <?collapse-bookmark:hide;3?> Sample template and data here. Dont forget you need that 10.1.3.4.1 roll up!

    I am looking to configure on Solaris 10 to achieve the below: user=jon group=jtu jon is owner of /opt/app user=ken group=jtu ken is owner of /data On Linux I have added the below line %jtu ALL= NOPASSWD: /bin/*, /usr/bin/* so that jon is able to access /data/tmp and delete files. This doesn't work on solaris10 since there is no sudo by default. How do I configure Solaris 10 so jon can delete files in /data/tmp? Thanks

    VMWare tools not installing on Ubuntu 12.04. I'm using Chef to manage the installation, but the Apt commands fail if run manually. I'm using the VMWare tool Debian repo.   • HAProxy causing delay

    I am trying to configure HAProxy to do load balancing for a custom webserver I created. Right now I am noticing an increasing delay with HAProxy as the size of the return message increases. For example, I ran four different tests, here are the results: Response 15kb through HAProxy: Avg. response time: .34 secs Transacation rate: 763 trans/sec Throughput: 11.08 MB/sec Response 2kb through HAProxy: Avg. response time: .08 secs Transaction rate: 1171 trans / sec Throughput: 2.51 MB/sec Response 15kb directly to server: Avg. response time: .11 sec Transaction rate: 1046 trans/sec throughput: 15.20 MB/sec Response 2kb directly to server: Avg. Response time: .05 secs Transaction rate: 1158 trans/sec Throughput: 2.48 MB/sec All transactions are HTTP requests. As you can see, there seems to be a much bigger difference between response times for when the response is bigger, than when it is smaller. I understand there will be a slight delay when using HAProxy. Not sure if it matters, but the test itself was run using siege. And during the test there was only one server behind the HAProxy(the same that was used in the direct to server tests). Here is my haproxy.config file: global log 127.0.0.1 local0 log 127.0.0.1 local1 notice maxconn 10000 user haproxy group haproxy daemon #debug defaults log global mode http option httplog option dontlognull retries 3 option redispatch option httpclose maxconn 10000 contimeout 10000 clitimeout 50000 srvtimeout 50000 balance roundrobin stats enable stats uri /stats listen lb1 10.1.10.26:80 maxconn 10000 server app1 10.1.10.200:8080 maxconn 5000 I couldn't find much in terms of options in this file that would help my problem. I have heard suggestions that I may have to adjust a few of my sysctl settings. I could not find a lot of information on this however, most documentation is for Linux 2.4 and 2.6 on the sysctl stuff, I am running 3.2(Ubuntu server 12.04), which seems to auto tuning, so I have no clue what I should or shouldn't be changing. Most settings changes I tried had no effect or a negative effect on performance. Just a notice, this is a very preliminary test, and my hope is that at deployment time, my HAProxy will be able to balance 10k-20k requests/sec to many servers, so if anyone could provide information to help me reach that goal, it would be much appreciated.   • Radeon HD4850 serious issues when using DirectX 10

    Hello, I have a problem with my video card. Whenever I run a DirectX 10 game, it works for a few seconds (10 or so) and then starts displaying nothing but big polygons. I have tested this with Crysis and Resident Evil 5, both have the same problems. The same games running under DirectX 9 work fine, except for some small black squares once in a while. I have the following specs: Asus P7P55D LE Intel Core i5 750 Sapphire Radeon HD4850 1GB 2x2GB Patriot Viper II Sector 5, DDR3 1600 MHz OCZ Stealth X Stream 500SXS 500W At first I thought it could be the video card overheating (it has stock cooling), but the game crashes even when it's running at 50 degrees C, and it's never been higher than 70. I also thought it could be the PSU, but as far as I know 500W is enough for this computer, especially because I haven't overclocked anything. My OS is Windows 7 X64 and I am using Catalyst 10.10, but I have also tried many older versions with no success. I don't think there is a problem with the card itself, or else it wouldn't run DirectX 9 games I believe. I have spent many hours searching for a solution but I couldn't, so any help is appreciated. Thank you. EDIT: I did some further investigation about the problem, and it seems taspeotis was right, it might be related to memory. I slightly underclocked the memory from 993 to 965 MHz and the problem went away completely. Both the black squares using DirectX 9 and the weird polygons using DirectX 10. I was using RE DirectX 10 Benchmark, as it consistently crashed around the same point, and now I can play the full benchmark with no artifacts at all. Unfortunately, the underclock has an obvious hit in performance. Although it's not critical, it's definitely noticeable. So, if the video memory test software showed no erros, but the card needs an underclock to work, what might be the problem? Temperature? Voltage? By the way, I couldn't find what the default voltage for this card is. And what is a good software to try and increase it? I tried Ati Tray Tools but it has a bug that increases the clock speed dramatically whenever I change something in the Overclock tab, so I'm afraid it might fry my card. Worst case scenario, if I don't find I solution I will try to slightly increase the GPU clock to compensate for the memory clock. Thank you again.

    I want to learn how to use Software Raid 10, is it possible to use VirtualBox by adding four storage images? This is my plan: 4x 100mb partitions (1 on each drive) configured as a raid 1 for /boot in ext3. Then with the remaining space on each drive, setup a software raid partition and configure it to to LVM and raid 10. In the LVM, set up a 4gb swap partition and the remaining space as the root partition ( / ) as ext3.

    I used to have both windows vista and ubuntu 10.04 on my laptop and i could choose which one to start at start up. But now I only have ubuntu 10,04 on my laptop and because there is only one operating system on my laptop the grub window doesn't show up. I need it because sometimes I need to start my ubuntu in recovery mode with no graphics, I checked and grub is already installed, how can I activate it at start up ? I've come to the point where I need to create a UCM directory but I don't know where and how I should call it. By "looking at /usr/share/alsa/ucm/apq8064-tabla-snd-card/" is the local Ubuntu PC directory or a directory on the downloaded CM meant? Same thing for "/proc/asound/cards" which should give a hint about what the directory should be called. 0 [PCH ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH HDA Intel PCH at 0xfb200000 irq 51 1 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia HDA NVidia at 0xfb080000 irq 17 I dont think the directory should be called anything like this.     A few days back I installed Ubuntu 12.04 alongside windows. When I put the CD in, the setup said that I should boot from CD and then I can choose from demo to install Ubuntu alongside Windows, I followed the instruction and selected Install alongside Windows 7 from the setup wizard. My Win 7 drive is originally 60 GB but after installing Ubuntu it appears as if it were 43 GB. Now I want to UNINSTALL Ubuntu and get just Win 7 back on. Please guide me how to do this. Presently, at start-up I get a choice to Boot either into Win 7 or Ubuntu. I am new to Ubuntu and Linux both! This is the partition layout as seen on Win 7 :

  • MP3 files cut off in the Ubuntu One Android app

    I noticed today on my phone (Droid X running Android 2.2.1) that when streaming the Ubuntu One app would skip to the next song before the previous one had finished. Looking into it, one of the mp3s downloaded from the server was only 2.5MB instead of 4.2MB as it shows on the server itself via one.ubuntu.com. It's happened with multiple tracks today (I remember it happening once the first time I used the app too but shrugged it off as a glitch). The app itself shows a star on the playlist item indicating the file was downloaded even though it was apparently cut off for some reason, perhaps lack of good cell coverage, or some sort of dropped connection. It seems like the latter may be happening and instead of showing an error or retrying it just stops and shows the download is complete.

    I'm attempting to install Ubuntu Studio 12.04 on my laptop by using VMware Workstation 7.1.5, and I've encountered a problem. The install goes well until the installation of Ubuntu has completed and the installation of VMware Tools starts; after that it just stops. I have waited about an hour and a half and nothing has changed. The installation is on VMware Easy Install, and I am running Windows Vista 32-bit with 3 GB system RAM and 2 GB of RAM on the virtual machine. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!

  • debootstrap or virt-install Ubuntu Server Maverick fails

    Oki so running any kind of variation of debootsrap i get the following error I: Extracting zlib1g... W: Failure trying to run: chroot /lxc/iso/dodo mount -t proc proc /proc debootstrap.log : mount: permission denied if i manualy chroot into the directory then i get promted with: id: cannot find name for group ID 0 I have no name!@...# i tryed addgroup but it's not installed , apt-get/aptitude : command not found , so i can't do anything with it . I've tryed ubuntu-vm-builder but since it's calling debootstrap i get the same error . Played with it for a few days and then i stoped and gaved virt-install a try , everithing works till i get to the console to finish the install witch shows only : Escape character is ^] and nothing more , no matter what i type . So basicly what i'm trying to do is build a usable chroot system so i can use it with lxc or libvirt . What are my options to get containers/virtualisation up and running ? I've read somewhere that i can use openvz templates with lxc or libvirt ? but how ? Let me know if you need aditional info ( p.s. doing all this on a dedicated server so i can't access it by hand , only ssh , plus on my local pc running ubuntu desktop maverick everithing works ) . EDIT Getting closer , i managed to understand how to use an openvz template with lxc , now the problem comes with the network bridge lxc-start: invalid interface name: br0 # Use same bridge device used in your controlling host setup lxc-start: failed to process 'lxc.network.link = br0 # Use same bridge device used in your controlling host setup ' lxc-start: failed to read configuration file i followed the exact steps to create a bridge and lxc conf looks like: lxc.network.type = veth lxc.network.flags = up lxc.network.link = br0 # Use same bridge device used in your controlling host setup lxc.network.hwaddr = {a1:b2:c3:d4:e5:f6} # As appropiate (line only needed if you wish to dhcp later) lxc.network.ipv4 = {10.0.0.100} # (Use 0.0.0.0 if you wish to dhcp later) lxc.network.name = eth0 # could likely be whatever you want Since it's not working i know smth is wrong so could somebody guyde me ? EDIT , looks like the base install was using an custom kernel ( bzImage-2.6.34.6-xxxx-grs-ipv6-65 ) for witch you i didn't found the headers , i did a update-grub after i installed a new kernel , edited menu.lst and no it's using 2.6.35-23-server and now debootstrap is working just fine same as ubuntu-vm-builder .

Multiple trials confirm I need the option: CONFIG_PREEMPT_RT_FULL=y I have the following questions: Is anyone maintaining a recent CONFIG_PREEMPT_RT_FULL kernel in a ppa? Is there any interest in providing a CONFIG_PREEMPT_RT_FULL in the official ubuntu-studio distribution? Does anyone have recent config pointers for a CONFIG_PREEMPT_RT_FULL kernel?
