  • How do I mount a harddrive to my /home folder in OS X?

    Im wondering how to mount my second HDD to my /home folder like you do in other *NIX systems, making the mount point just that folder and not a standard HDD. I am aware of the method of copying my /home folder and then telling OSX via System Preferences/Users & Groups to look for the folder in a different location. What I am wondering is if there is a way to properly mount the entire HDD to become nothing more than my /home. I don't want it to even show up in Finder as an HDD. Is this even possible?

  • How can I automatically encode a folder of wmv files to flv?

    I have a folder in which .wmvs are saved after they are finished recording. I would like to set up a script which encodes all of the files in this folder into .flvs with the appropriate size, frame rate, etc and then moves them to another folder. I have been looking for a command line .wmv to .flv converter to do this without much success. Has someone automatically encoded .wmvs to .flvs before that can point me in the right direction?

  • Recovering files that do not appear in the Recycle Bin, but are in the $Recycle.bin folder on external drive

    Problem: I have an NTFS external drive with a $Recycle.bin folder on the root (E:/$Recycle.bin/) that has about 70gb worth of data. For whatever reason, the folder is no longer a hidden system file and no Windows machine I have used the drive on will show the files in the actual Recycle Bin. What I Want To Do: I want to atleast view the recycle bin files from this external, and all of the help articles I have read just talk about deleting the folder all together. I plan on reformating the drive, but first I need to see if there are any important deleted files. What Didn't Work: Recuva - didn't see any of my files Resetting the external's Recycle Bin via command prompt and moving the old $Recycle.bin files into the new external $Recycle.bin folder (I didn't read this anywhere, just made it up on my own)

    I use Thunderbird on Ubuntu Linux and have just upgraded to Ubuntu 10 / Thunderbird 3. One of my gripes however is that Thunderbird uses a number of shortcut keys that have no secondary key requirements, for example, "Mark as Read" is M. Not ControlM. Just M. Worse, "Mark as Junk" is J. Which means I sometimes inadvertently mark messages as Junk. How can I customize Thunderbird's shortcuts so, for example, "Mark as Junk" is ControlJ?

  • How can I force Windows 7 to REindex a folder?

    I asked Windows 7 to index my entire "Media" folder. After it was done it'd find anything in there, no problem. Then I reorganized it a bit and moved some folders around, and now it doesn't find things inside those folders anymore. For example, I'm looking at a folder with the files: 01. Ferry Corsten - Shelter Me.mp3 02. Ferry Corsten - Black Velvet.mp3 ... 05. Ferry Corsten - Made Of Love.mp3 ... I type in "Love" in the search box for the current folder, and it doesn't find anything. I checked in "Indexing Options", and this very folder is checked off in there. It seems I just messed up its indexing feature. Any ideas how fix?

Or I'd like to export the messages in a way that they are easy to import in to Thunderbird.     In a social networking project we want to store user's avatars in a folder. I think in one year or two it'll reach to 140K (I've seen this issue before and it will be around this number). I want to spread files in folders. If a folder contains 1000 files then create another folder and do store files from 1001 to 2000. Is this a good approach or I'm just very cautious about the issue?     Say I have a pictures folder which I reorganized on one computer. I'd like to use that directory as the base and compare it with another version on a backup drive. Will any sync/compare program find that a file in one folder has moved locations within a compare folder. For instance say I reorganized my pictures from trips into folders by year with the trips folders inside each year folder. If I use a regular compare utility I wind up with two copies of everything that's moved in different locations.
