• Apple has bigger market capitalization than Microsoft

  Should I worry that my Microsoft programming skills (C#, .NET, WinAPI) will be obsolete in a few years, because everybody will be using Mac OS X, iPhone OS or some other Apple-originated OS? According to reuters, Apple has now bigger market capitalization than Microsoft. I know there is probably huge speculative bubble around Apple's shares, but just look at this graph (taken from business insider): I also know Windows have currently 90% of the OS market share, so we (Win devs) should be OK for a few years, but who knows, maybe in 10 years, it will be just 40%, and 0% on mobile phone OS market. Personally, I'm not much worried, because I think Microsoft will fight hard for their desktop OS market share, but I'm interested in your opinions.

• Simple javascript problem in ie6 and ie7

  I have a very simple function that takes a list of comma separated (x,y) points and imports them into a graph. I have FF, Chrome and IE8 installed. I use IETester to test for IE6 and IE7. // Import Data this.Import = function(data) { alert("Data in: "+data); var d; // Make sure the first and the last are start/ending parenthesis if ( (data[0] != '(') || (data[data.length-1] != ')') ) { alert("After if: "+data[0]+" "+data[data.length-1]); return false; } ... In Chrome, FF and IE8, I don't see the "After if:" alert. In IE6 and IE7, I see the following two alerts: Data in: (52,16),(100,90) After if: undefined undefined The "Data in" alert matches in all browsers. Any ideas?

• Core Data + Core Animation/CALayer together??

  I am making an Cocoa app with custom interfaces. So far I have implemented one version of the app using CALayer doing the rendering, which has been great given the hierarchical structure of CALayers, and its [hitTest:] function for handling mouse events. In this early version, the model of the app are my custom classes. However, as the program grows I feel the urge of using Core Data for the model, not just for the ease of binding/undo management, but also want to try out the new technology. My method so far: In Core Data: creating a Block entity, with attributes xPos, yPos, width, height...etc. Then, creating a BlockView : CALayer class for drawing, which uses methods such as self.position.x = [self valueForKey:@"xPos"] to fetch the values from the model. In this case, every BlockView object has to also keep a local copy of xPos, which is NOT good. Do any of you guys have better suggestions? Edit: This app is a information visualization tool. So the positions, dimensions of the blocks are important, and should be persisted for later analysis.

• Howto format a date as localized Short MonthDay string

  I would like to format a DateTime to a string containing the month name abbreviated and the date for use in axislabels in a graph. The default DateTime format strings do not contain abbreviated month. I guess there is no standard but I could take a substring of the first 3 characters of the month name and replace this into the MonthDay format. • Getting empty result within PHP when in browser I get the JSON exception

  I have this code: $url="https://graph.facebook.com/me/friends?access_token=".$access_token."&fields=id,first_name,last_name&limit=10"; $content=file_get_contents($url); Whenever I use this on a non authenticated user I should get feedback of OAuthException, which doesn't show up in the PHP the $content is empty. While if I copy the URL to the browser I get the result and I see the exception. I want to detect if the user is logged in and the session data is valid. What might be wrong?

• How to detect code duplication during development ?

  We have a fairly large code base, 400K LOC of C++, and code duplication is something of a problem. Are there any tools which can effectively detect duplicated blocks of code? Ideally this would be something that developers could use during development rather than just run occasionally to see where the problems are. It would also be nice if we could integrate such a tool with CruiseControl to give a report after each check in. I had a look at Duploc some time ago, it showed a nice graph but requires a smalltalk environment to use it, which makes running it automatically rather difficult. Free tools would be nice, but if there are some good commercial tools I would also be interested.

• PyQt: Get the position of QGraphicsWidgets in a QGraphicsGridLayout

  I have a fairly simple PyQt application in which I'm placing instances of a QGraphicsWidget in a QGraphicsGridLayout and want to connect the widgets with lines drawn with a QGraphicsPath. Unfortunately, no matter what I try, I always get (0, 0) back as the position for both the start and end widgets. I'm constructing the graph with a recursive function that adds widgets to the scene and layout. Once the recursive function is complete, the layout is added to a new widget, which is added to the scene to show everything. The edges are added to the scene as widgets are created. How do I get a non-zero position of any of the widgets in the grid layout?

  Dear Sirs, The issue arises when the user selects a range on the linechart that cuts off datapoints. When this happens, I would like the chart to tell the user somehow that there are data points three, just outside the range, perhaps by drawing a straight line across the top or bottom of the graph.   I'm trying to use the bar_geom function of ggplot2, but I can't understand how to use it. I realize that I don't understand how ggplot2 functions as this small example does not work, yet my other example is generating a plot but I cannot specify a y-range as it considers the variables to be categorical.

  Im trying to encode raw data(both video frame and audio sample) into .asf file, using asf writer filter in directshow. my filter graph structure: raw_send_filter - asf writer filter raw_send_filter implements CBaseFilter and CBaseOutputPin. It plays a role as source filter which get raw data, then deliver them to ASF writer filter. The process follows these steps: Get deliver buffer (return into "sample") , using the function CBaseOutputPin::GetDeliveryBuffer sample-GetPointer(&buffer); Set time stamp (with frame rate = 30 fps) deliver sample The problem is after encode some raw data, I can not deliver any more. I can encode .avi file with this way, using Avi mux filter. Can u tell me why I can not deliver samples after encoding some? Thanks.

  Hello, In my django project in the view I call the last 6 values in the column and send them to the template. I then would like to pass into google charts api those 6 values and have a graph.   Given I have a list of dependencies, like: module1 module2 dependsOn module1 module3 dependsOn module1 module4 dependsOn module3 I would like to create a build order where each build step is found on one line, and each line contains a list of one or more modules which can be compiled at the same time, and which only depend on modules compiled earlier. So, for the above data set, create a list like: module1 module2,module3 module4 Now, this is basically just a problem of creating a directed graph, and analyzing it. Now, I am using Ant, and would very much like to use something off-the-shelf... what is the minimum of custom code I need to have it create such a dependency-aware build list starting from the given input? BTW, these modules are actually custom modules, so maven will not work.

  my team is looking into using hudson as our continuous integration software, 1 problem that we try to figure out is to integrate the reports of junit/pmd/findbugs etc into the build email that get sent to the team. the graph/reports on the dashboard are nice and all, but people usually want to just read the email and not clicking the links. i tried to use the ext-email plugin, but that doesn't provide much help related to this. is there any way i can get those info into the build email?   Since I'm pretty new this question'll certainly sound stupid but I have no idea about how to approach this. I'm trying take a list of nodes and for each of the nodes I want to create an array of predecessors and successors in the ordered array of all nodes. Currently my code looks like this: nodes = self.peers.keys() nodes.sort() peers = {} numPeers = len(nodes) for i in nodes: peers[i] = [self.coordinator] for i in range(0,len(nodes)): peers[nodes[i%numPeers]].append(nodes[(i+1)%numPeers]) peers[nodes[(i+1)%numPeers]].append(nodes[i%numPeers]) # peers[nodes[i%numPeers]].append(nodes[(i+4)%numPeers]) # peers[nodes[(i+4)%numPeers]].append(nodes[i%numPeers]) The last two lines should later be used to create a skip graph, but that's not really important. The problem is that it doesn't really work reliably, sometimes a predecessor or a successor is skipped, and instead the next one is used, and so forth. Is this correct at all or is there a better way to do this? Basically I need to get the array indices with certain offsets from each other. Any ideas?

• Capture Flash Audio in 4.7 Edge?

  Is there a way to capture plugin (Flash) audio before it gets to the sound card? I'd like to record plugin audio, hopefully without actually playing the sound. Capturing audio at the device level is an absolute last resort, as the application would pick up all system audio rather than just the Webkit plugin. I'm aware of the recent switch back from QTMultimedia; is this possible with phonon? I spent the night looking for some way to access the phonon graph via QWebFrame (or any of the QtWebkit widgets) -- and didn't turn up much. I also started digging through QTWebkit, particularly NPAPI, without success. For reference, I'm using the edge version of 4.7 (6aa50af000f85cc4497749fcf0860c8ed244a60e) This seems to be a fairly challenging problem. Any hints would be greatly appreciated.

• Cloned Cached item has memory issues

  Hi there, we are having values stored in Cache-Enterprise library Caching Block. The accessors of the cached item, which is a List, modify the values. We didnt want the Cached Items to get affected. Hence first we returned a new List(IEnumerator of the CachedItem) This made sure accessors adding and removing items had little effect on the original Cached item. But we found, all the instances of the List we returned to accessors were ALIVE! Object relational Graph showed a relationship between this list and the EnterpriseLibrary.CacheItem. So we changed the return to be a newly cloned List. For this we used a LINQ say (from item in Data select new DataClass(item) ).ToList() even when you do as above, the ORG shows there is a relationship between this list and the CacheItem. Cant we do anything to create a CLONE of the List item which is present in the Enterprise library cache, which DOESNT have ANY relationship with CACHE?!

  I'm new to MATLAB and mrVista. I'm running Matlab Version 7.8.0.347 (R2009a) 32-bit(win32) from February 12, 2009 OS is Windows 7 Professional I downloaded the most recent MrVista_hourly.zip and extracted it into my C:\Program_Files_(x86)\MATLAB directory. I think I need to run mrvInstall, but when I do, I get the following: EDU>> mrvInstall Checking VISATSOFT installation. Windows, 32-bit, installation Checking and possibly installing .NET framework. This can take several minutes Checking for visualization library (.dll) files. You are missing msvcp70.dll. So, I'm completely lost at this point. Do I just need to download msvcp70.dll from the net? If so, is there a safe place to download it from? If there's some other way I'm supposed to get mrVista to work from MATLAB, instead of mrvInstall, please let me know that. Thanks in advance for your help. EDIT: I've downloaded and installed the dll and still isn't working. I'll go ask on Super User. Thanks for trying to help anyway.

Specifically, I added the following alias: lg = log --graph --pretty=format:'%Cred%h%Creset - %C(yellow)%an%Creset - %s %Cgreen(%cr)%Creset' --abbrev-commit --date=relative So, when I run git lg, I see the following: * 41a49ad - zain - commit 1 message here (3 hours ago) * 6087812 - zain - commit 2 message here (5 hours ago) * 74842dd - zain - commit 3 message here (6 hours ago) However, I want to add the SVN revision number in there too, so it looks something like: * 41a49ad - r1593 - zain - commit 1 message here (3 hours ago) The normal git log shows you the SVN revision number, so I'm sure this must be possible. How do I do this?

• Problem requesting a HTTPS with TCL

  Hi Everybody, I'm trying to do the following request using TCL (OpenACS) http::register https 443 tls::socket set url "https://encrypted.google.com" set token [http::geturl $url -timeout 30000] set status [http::status $token] set answer [http::data $token] http::cleanup $token http::unregister https The problem is that when I read the $status variable I get "eof" and the $answer variable becomes empty. I tried enabling tls V.1 http::register https 443 [list tls::socket -tls1 1] and it works only for the site https://www.galileo.edu, but not for https://encrypted.google.com. The site what I'm trying to connect is https://graph.facebook.com/me/feed?access_token=... but it doesn't work. I used curl to retrieve the contents of the pages in HTTPS and it works, I have installed OpenSSL, so I can't see the problem, there is another way to do HTTPS connections with TCL?. I can't see if this is a problem of coding (maybe I'm registered wrong the https protocol) or maybe It is a bad configuration of my server. Hope somebody helps!! Thanks!

• Plot smooth line with PyPlot

  I've got the following simple script that plots a graph: import matplotlib.pyplot as plt import numpy as np T = np.array([6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12]) power = np.array([1.53E+03, 5.92E+02, 2.04E+02, 7.24E+01, 2.72E+01, 1.10E+01, 4.70E+00]) plt.plot(T,power) plt.show() As it is now, the line goes straight from point to point which looks ok, but could be better in my opinion. What I want is to smooth the line between the points. In Gnuplot I would have plotted with smooth cplines. Is there an easy way to do this in PyPlot? I've found some tutorials, but they all seem rather complex.
