  • Darwin Streaming Server doesn't gives content

    Hello! I have problems with Darwin Streaming server 5.5.5 on Debian. When i'm trying to open some stream, for ex. rtsp://sample.com/sample_100kbit.mp4 player reports it can't load stream and breaks connection. "Access History" section reports file was requested, so, at least initial connection is working, but nothing more. What can be wrong and what to check?

  • Creating an empty Drawable in Android

    Creating a Drawable that is completely empty seems like a common need, as a place holder, initial state, etc., but there doesn't seem to be a good way to do this... at least in XML. Several places refer to the system resource @android:drawable/empty but as far as I can tell (i.e., it's not in the reference docs, and aapt chokes saying that it can't find the resource) this doesn't exist. Is there a general way of referencing an empty Drawable, or do you end up creating a fake empty PNG for each project?

  • Using android gesture on top of menu buttons

    What I want is to have an options menu where the user can choose to navigate the menu between: 1) touching a button and then pressing down on the trackball to select it, and 2) drawing predefined gestures from Gestures Builder As it stands now, I have created my buttons with OnClickListener and the gestures with GestureOverlayView. Then I select starting a new Activity depending on whether the using pressed a button or executed a gesture. However, when I attempt to draw a gesture, it is not picked up. Only pressing the buttons is recognized.   • Non blocking IO call from Django controller from a Windows service

    Hi all, I have a CherryPy server with a Django application running as a Windows service, inside a controller I need to make a call to wmic, the problem is, so far I have only been able to implement a blocking operation.   • Windows Netbeans with PHPunit, not working

Netbeans keeps saying the version of PHPUnit is too old and that I need at least 3.3.0, while I am using 3.3.9. Screenschots: I haven't editted anything about the files, I just downloaded the tgz, unzipped it all and put up the link.

I can't find in the API how to get the "TO" recipients as String for each Message. Can anyone guide me on how to do this? At least a link where someone has already done it. Thanks in advance

    In Asp.Net MVC 2.0, at least in the beta, you could decoration your model classes with data annotation attributes and enable client side validation that leverages that criteria defined in your model data annotation attibutes. Is there anything similar for Java Spring MVC 3.0? Is it possible to inject a component into the response pipeline that can inspect the model's annotated properties and render client side validation logic to complement the server side validation logic that is invoked prior to the controller handling the request?

    Functional programming has been around since at least 1958 (creation of Lisp), but is experiencing a renaissance now with old functional languages being dusted off and new functional languages being created. Which functional languages are there that are newly developed or are in the making? I realize that you can write purely functional programs in most high level languages, so with functional languages I imply languages that are specifically designed for functional programming such as F#.     Is there a jQuery plug-in / JavaScript control that will allow me to display array of images, but with (at least) option to delete image on certain user action. Something like this: http://www.gmarwaha.com/jquery/jcarousellite/index.php but with dedicated delete button on every image. First extra option that I can think of is to rearrange order of images. More specifically, something that does well the things that Python doesn't in general do as well. My first guess would be C/C++ since it's got easy extensibility with Python and because it offers generally better performance, but I'm wondering if Java or C# might be a better or at least equivalently good option with different up/downsides compared to C/C++.

  • How do you attract programmers in rural areas?

    I run a software development group for a very small, but stable and established company in a small town, somewhat outside of the "big city". Unfortunately, the "programmer" labor pool is much smaller due to the size of the city. There are many positives to working in this area, especially in terms of quality of life (particularly for people interested in outdoor activities), lower cost of living, great schools and neighborhoods, etc. However, I've always had difficulty attracting high-qualtiy, experienced developers. For those of you who hire developers outside of large cities: Where do you advertise to find good developers? Many of the large sites are very focused in certain metropolitan areas, and seem inappropriate places to advertise if you're outside of that main region. How do you attract quality developers to rural (or at least less metropolitan) locations? Do you find that you make more sacrifices in your hiring due to a smaller labor pool? Or do you just wait, and take extra time to attract people? What sacrifices do you expect to make if you are outside of the main developer-rich cities? For all of the developers out there... What would entice you to working in a smaller town? Are there things that would stand out and make you willing to relocate or at least apply to a position that was not nearby? What specific qualities would help you want to move outside of the city? In the past, I've had difficulty with finding good people. Most of the people who've applied and been willing to move out to a more rural location seem like the types that can't keep a quality job elsewhere. I'd like to know what advice people have to attracting quality technical staff. I don't believe its the work itself that's been the problem - The work is both interesting and challenging, and nearly 100% new development. The developers I have seem very happy with their situation - they love the work, the atmosphere, etc. It's more a matter of finding willing, able developers. Edit: More info after the first couple of answers: Right now, some of my best developers telecommute (some work from overseas); however, for this question, I'm trying to figure out how to get people who want to live and work full time locally. I need some people with whom I interact every day.

    I've got the entire contents of a text file (at least a few KB) in string myStr. Will the following code create a copy of the string (less the first character) in memory? myStr = myStr[1:] I'm hoping it just refers to a different location in the same internal buffer.   • How to reduce size of BIRT generated PDF with background image?

    It seems (at least that is our understanding of the issue at this point) that given a background image in BIRT, the PDF generation routine repeats the image information inside the PDF instead of having it once referenced as the background image of all pages of the PDF. This causes our BIRT generated PDFs to be too large. Is there a way to get BIRT to only store the image once inside the PDF and have it be the background image on each page of the PDF while keeping the file size more reasonable?
