  • jQuery ajax return value

    - by Jordan Pagaduan
    How can I return the value "pinNumber" from jquery ajax so I can append it outside of the ajax. Here is my code var x = pinLast + 1; for(i=x;i<=pinMany;i++) { var i = x++; var cardNumber = i.toPrecision(8).split('.').reverse().join(''); var pinNumber = ''; jQuery.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "data.php", data: "request_type=generator", async: false, success: function(msg){ var pinNumber = msg; return pinNumber; //pin number should return } }); jQuery('.pin_generated_table').append(cardNumber+' = '+pinNumber+''); // the variable pinNumber should be able to go here } Please ask me if you don't understand.. ^^ thanks

  • What causes Apache Environment Variable set using mod_rewrite to have "redirect_" appended to name?

    - by trowel
    I am trying to set Apache environment variables (for use in PHP) with the [E=VAR:VAL] flag on RewriteRule rules in an .htaccess file. I have already discovered the variables are accessed in PHP as server variables $_SERVER rather than $_ENV (which makes a certain amount of sense). However, my problem is for some rules the [E=VAR:VAL] flag works as expected and I end up with a variable $_SERVER['VAR'] but for other rules I end with a variable $_SERVER['REDIRECT_VAR'] or $_SERVER['REDIRECT_REDIRECT_VAR'], etc A. What causes an Environment Variable set in Apache using the [E=VAR:VAL] flag to get renamed by having "REDIRECT_" appended to the front of the variable name? B. What can I do to make sure I end up with an Environment Variable with an unchanged name so I can access it in PHP as $SERVER['VAR'] without having to resort to checking for variations of the variable name having one of more instances of "REDIRECT" appended to the front of it?

  • Global JavaScript Variable Scope: Why doesn't this work?

    - by CoryDorning
    So I'm playing around with JavaScript and came across what I think to be an oddity. Is anyone able to explain the following? (i've included the alerted values as comments) Why is the first alert(msg) inside foo() returning undefined and not outside? var msg = 'outside'; function foo() { alert(msg); // undefined var msg = 'inside'; alert(msg); // inside } foo(); alert(msg); // outside Considering these both work fine: var msg = 'outside'; function foo() { alert(msg); // outside } alert(msg); // outside and: var msg = 'outside'; function foo() { var msg = 'inside'; alert(msg); // inside } alert(msg); // outside

  • Find most right and left point of a horizontal circle in 3d Vector environment

    - by Olivier de Jonge
    I'm drawing a 3D pie chart that is rendered with in 3D vectors, projected to 2D vectors and then drawn on a Graphics object. I want to calculate the most left and right point of the circle The method to create a vector, draw and project to a 2d vector are below. Anyone knows the answer? public class Vector3d { public var x:Number; public var y:Number; public var z:Number; //the angle that the 3D is viewed in tele or wide angle. public static var viewDist:Number = 700; function Vector3d(x:Number, y:Number, z:Number){ this.x = x; this.y = y; this.z = z; } public function project2DNew():Vector { var p:Number = getPerspective(); return new Vector(p * x, p * y); } public function getPerspective():Number{ return viewDist / (this.z + viewDist); } }

  • jquery updating a div in ajax diesnt work properly, when using a variable

    - by maschek
    hi, i got the following code var zieldiv = $(this).attr(\'id\'); $.ajax({ url: \'index.php?params\', type: \'POST\', data: { color:thenewcolor, zieldiv:zieldiv }, timeout: 50000, beforeSend: function() { $("#" + zieldiv).css({background: "#" + thenewcolor} ); } }); I use this for dragging a small div into a bigger div. the variable at the beginnning would give out the string "test1". So in the ajax.thing the css of a div which matches the var zieldiv should be updatet. Problem is, if i would place a string instead a var into the $(...) like $("#test1") it acts like its supposed to, the #test1 gets updated. but if i use the var $("#" + zieldiv) the parent div, which is surrounding the #test1-div gets updated. but i know for sure the var zieldiv contains the string "test1", because when passing it to php it contains "test1". so i think this is a little strange. do you have any ideas? thanx, maschek

  • Exponential volume control with a specified midpoint

    - by Lars
    I have a slider that returns values from 0 to 100. I am using this to control the gain of an oscillator. When the slider is at 0, I would like the gain to be 0.0 When the slider is at 50, I would like the gain to be 0.1 When the slider is at 100, I would like the gain to be 0.5 So I need to find an equation to get a smooth curve which passes through all of these points. I've got the following equation which gives an exponential curve and gets the start and end points correct, but I don't know how to force the curve through the middle point. Can anyone help? function logSlider(position){ var minP = 0; var maxP = 100; var minV = Math.log(0.0001); var maxV = Math.log(0.5); var scale = (maxV - minV) / (maxP - minP); return Math.exp(minV + scale*(position-minP)); }

    Hi, I load a js variable like this: var message = '<%= CAnunturi.CPLATA_RAMBURS_INFO %>'; where the static string CPLATA_RAMBURS_INFO i put like: public static string CPLATA_RAMBURS_INFO = "test"; I use it very well in this method. <script type="text/javascript"> var categoryParam = '<%= CQueryStringParameters.CATEGORY %>'; var subcategoryParam = '<%= CQueryStringParameters.SUBCATEGORY1_ID %>'; var message = '<%= CAnunturi.CPLATA_RAMBURS_INFO %>'; function timedInfo(header) { $.jGrowl(message, { header: header }); }; </script> so the message appears. I do not undersand, why, iso of "test", if i take the value from a static method, ths use of message js var is no longer succesfull (the message no longer appears). public static string CPLATA_RAMBURS_INFO = getRambursInfo(); public static string getRambursInfo() { return System.IO.File.ReadAllText(PathsUtil.getRambursPlataFilePath()); } Any help would be highly appreciated....

How can I iterate over all the property names and not just the dynamically added ones?

  • Referencing ASP.net textbox data in JavaScripts

    - by GoldenEarring
    I'm interested in making an interactive 3D pie chart using JavaScript and ASP.net controls for a webpage. Essentially, I want to make an interactive version of the chart here: https://google-developers.appspot.com/chart/interactive/docs/gallery/piechart#3D I want to have 5 ASP.net textboxes where the user enters data and then submits it, and the chart adjusts according to what the user enters. I understand using ASP.net controls with JS is probably not the most effective way to go about it, but I would really appreciate if someone could share how doing this would be possible. I really don't know where to begin. • How can I format numbers as money in JavaScript?

    - by Daniel Magliola
    I would like to format a price in JavaScript. Basically, I have a float variable, and I'd like to have a function that will receive that variable, and output: "$ 2,500.00" What's the best way to do this? EDIT: OK, since I haven't gotten any answers better than the code I implemented, plus my own answer has been voted down and I can't put my own answer as the right one... Here it is... var DecimalSeparator = Number("1.2").toLocaleString().substr(1,1); var AmountWithCommas = Amount.toLocaleString(); var arParts = String(AmountWithCommas).split(DecimalSeparator); var intPart = arParts[0]; var decPart = (arParts.length > 1 ? arParts[1] : ''); decPart = (decPart + '00').substr(0,2); return '£ ' + intPart + DecimalSeparator + decPart;

  • What is the correct way to fix this Javascript closure

    - by sujoe
    I have been familiarizing myself with javascript closures and ran across this article http://blog.morrisjohns.com/javascript_closures_for_dummies.html Due to the closure, Example 5 does not work as expected. How would one modify result.push( function() {alert(item + ' ' + list[i])} ); to make the code work? function buildList(list) { var result = []; for (var i = 0; i < list.length; i++) { var item = 'item' + list[i]; result.push( function() {alert(item + ' ' + list[i])} ); } return result; } function testList() { var fnlist = buildList([1,2,3]); // using j only to help prevent confusion - could use i for (var j = 0; j < fnlist.length; j++) { fnlist[j](); } } testList(); Thanks!

  • Are function arguments stored in a closure?

    - by Nick Lowman
    I was reading this great article about closures here and the example below outputs 'item3 undefined' three times. I understand why it outputs 'item3' three times as the functions inside buildList() all use the same single closure but why can't it access the 'list' argument? Why is it undefined? Is it because the argument is passed in after the closure has been created? function buildList(list) { var result = []; for (var i = 0; i < list.length; i++) { var item = 'item' + list[i]; result.push( function() {console.log(item + ' ' + list[i])} ); } return result; } function testList() { var fnlist = buildList([1,2,3]); // using j only to help prevent confusion - could use i for (var j = 0; j < fnlist.length; j++) { fnlist[j](); } }

  • bash—Better way to store variable between runs?

    - by shardbearer
    I've made a bash script which I run every hour with crontab, and I need to store one variable so that I can access it the next time I run it. The script changes the variable every time it runs, so I can't hardcode it in. Right now I am writing it to a txt file and then reading it back. Is there a better way to do it than this? And the way I am reading the txt file is something I found on here, I don't understand it, and it's kinda clunky. Is there not a built in command for this? Anyway, here's the applicable code, with some of the variables changed to make it easier to read. while read x; do var=$x done < var.txt # Do some stuff, change var to a new value echo $var > var.txt The variable is only a single integer, so the text file feels overkill.

  • Javascript is freezing the browser when running this code

    I am trying to get the value of a text input and check if there is any links in it and then take those links and make them into tags. But when I run this code, something is going wrong and it completely freezes the page. Basically, I want it to check for "http://" and if that exists, to keep on adding to the substr length until the end of the string/link. Is there a better way to do this? // the id "post" could possibly say: "Hey, check this out! http://facebook.com" // I'd like it to just get that link and that's all I need help with, just to get the // value of that entire string/link. var x = document.getElementById("post"); var m = x.value.indexOf("http://"); var a = 0; var q = m; if (m != -1) { while (x.value.substr(q, 1) != " ") { var h = x.value.substr(m, a); q++; } }
