• Split NSData objects into other NSData objects with a given size

  I'm having an NSData object of approximately 1000kb big. Now I want to transfer this via bluetooth. This would be better if I have let's say 10 objects of 100kb. It comes to mind that I should use the -subdataWithRange: method of NSData. I haven't really worked with NSRange. Well I know how it works, but then to read from a given location with the length: 'to end of file'... I've no idea how to do that. Some code on how to split this into multiple 100kb NSData objects would really help me out here. (it probably involves the length method to see how many objects should be made..?) • Is it possible to make customizable WPF styles?

  I really like WPF because of its awesome skinning support by changing resourcedictionaries on the fly, but the catch is, the styles must be made by designers in XAML. My client needs a skinnable UI where the end users can make skins themselves. My question is - In Photoshop, you can take any image, and add a color overlay to change all the colors to that hue. Can you do something similar in WPF? I'm just a beginner, and looking at several WPF styles, it seems like all the color values are hard-coded. Here's a sample scenario - user selects two colors from color pickers, and all the controls have a gradient background from Color1 to Color2.

• Blacklight Expander problem while expanding programmatically

  Hi, I am doing a silverlight project in Silverlight 4 and I included the BlackLight project in my project so that I could use their new controls, especialy the dockpanel and the autoexpander, which is causing me at the moment some little problems. What I would like to do is to have several auto-expander that will expand or collapsed when I click on button. In my case more specifically, each auto-expander have a set of parameter to fill, which in turn will fill the other expander and the current one would collaps and the just filled one would expand. The idea is simple, yet when I use a button which is on one of my expander, it only works once... It would expand/collapse the first time, then after that, nothing. I've downloaded the free trial but it's a little fancier than I expected. I'm not a graphic designer and can't use photoshop to save my life, however I do have images provided by a graphic designer to use for this application. I'm looking for some good resources for learning Blend and using it as a front end to a C# application, much like I would a regular C# forum.

• CHMOD To Prevent Deletion Of File Directory

  I have some hosting on a Linux server and I have a few folders that I don't ever want to delete. There are sub folders within these that I do want to delete. How do I set the CHMOD permissions on the folders I don't want to delete? Of course, when I say "I don't ever want to delete" - what I mean is that the end customer shouldn't delete them by accident, via FTP or in a PHP script etc. As an example of directory structure... MainFolder/SubFolder MainFolder/Another I don't want "MainFolder" to be accidentally deleted, but I'm happy for "SubFolder" and "Another" to be removed!

I see all around searching on the web - in articles from 2008 and 2009 - that they were adding Silverlight support in WinMo 6.1, for example: Internet Explorer Mobile The new version of Internet Explorer Mobile adds the ability to easily view full-screen Web pages and multimedia on the Web with a smartphone. Microsoft's press release states the new version takes advantage of "Internet Explorer 6 technologies" and supports industry standards such as H.264, Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight. The update will be available to mobile phone partners in the third quarter of 2008, with the first Windows Mobile phones using the new version expected to be available by the end of 2008. But I have found an SL app supposedly geared for mobile devices (as much as I hate weatherbug), but when i try going there in PIE on my WinMo 6.1 device, it shows me the little "get silverlight" image button, but clicking it doesn't do anything. So, what is the story? Is SL/WinMo development possible, or ?

• Setting treeview background color in VB6 has a flaw - help?

  I have successfully implemented this method of using the Win32 API to set the background color of a treeview in VB 6: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/178491 However, one thing goes wrong: when you expand the tree nodes more than two levels deep, the area to the left of (and sometimes under) the inner plus [+] and minus [-] signs is still white. Does anyone know how to get this area to the correct background color, too? Note: I'm also setting the BackColor of each node, and also the BackColor of the treeview's imagelist. • Failing to install activerecord-jdbcmysql-adapter gem

  I am trying to follow the basic "Create a blog in 20 minutes" Rails screencast but have hit a stumbling block already. When I try to rake db:migrate I get errors about the gem activerecord-jdbcmysql-adapter not being installed. When I try to install it, I am told it doesn't exist. If I try to simply gem install mysql I get all sorts of madness appearing. I am running this on Mac OS X 10.6.2 and my installation was all done through gem. My basic setup works (Hello world!). • XML Deserialization in VB/VBA

  I have a set of VBA classes in an MS Access database. I have an xml string with data I want to create new classes with. Other than setting each property individually, is there an easy way to deserialize the XML into my object? • Why not .NET-style delegates rather than closures in Java?

  OK, this is going to be my beating a dying horse for the 3rd time. However, this question is different from my earlier two about closures/delegates, which asks about plans for delegates and what are the projected specs and implementation for closures. This question is about - why is the Java community struggling to define 3 different types of closures when we could simply steal the whole concept of delegates lock, stock and barrel from our beloved and friendly neighbour - Microsoft. There are two non-technical conclusions I would be very tempted to jump into: The Java community should hold up its pride, at the cost of needing to go thro convoluted efforts, by not succumbing to borrowing any Microsoft concepts or otherwise vindicate Microsoft's brilliance. Delegates is a Microsoft patented technology. Alright, besides the above two possibilities, Q1. Is there any weakness or inadequacy in msft-styled delegates that the three (or more) forms of closures would be addressing? Q2. I am asking this while shifting between java and c# and it intrigues me that c# delegates does exactly what I needed. Are there features that would be implemented in closures that are not currently available in C# delegates? If so what are they because I cannot see what I need more than what C# delegates has adequately provided me? Q3. I know that one of the concerns about implementing closures/delegates in java is the reduction of orthogonality of the language, where more than one way is exposed to perform a particular task. Is it worth the level convolution and time spent to avoid delegates just to ensure java retains its level of orthogonality? In SQL, we know that it is advisable to break orthogonality by frequently adequately satisfying only the 2nd normal form. Why can't java be subjected to reduction of orthogonality and OO-ness for the sake of simplicity? Q4. The architecture of JVM is technically constrained from implementing .NET-styled delegates. If this reason WERE (subjunctive to emphasize unlikelihood) true, then why can't the three closures proposals be hidden behind a simple delegate keyword or annotation: if we don't like to use @delegate, we could use @method. I cannot see how delegate statement format is more complex than the three closure proposals.

• Android AsyncTask context problem, help!

  I've been working with AsyncTasks in Android and I am dealing with a strange issue. Take a simple example, an Activity with one AsyncTask. The task on the background does not do anything spectacular, it just sleeps for 8 seconds. At the end of the AsyncTask in the onPostExecute() method I am just setting a button visibility status to View.VISIBLE, only to verify my results. Now, this works great until the user decides to change his phones orientation while the AsyncTask is working (within the 8 second sleep window). I understand the Android activity life cycle and I know the activity gets destroyed and recreated. This is where the problem comes in. The AsyncTask is referring to a button and apparently holds a reference to the context that started the AsyncTask in the first place. I would expect, that this old context (since the user caused an orientation change) to either become null and the AsyncTask to throw an NPE for the reference to the button it is trying to make visible. Instead, no NPE is thrown, the asynctask thinks that the button reference is not null, sets it to visible. The result? Nothing is happening on the screen! I have tackled this by keeping and updating the context reference into the AsyncTask. This is cumbersome and prone to leaks.   I know that variable scope is enclosed by a start of block { and an end of block }. If the same variable is declared within the block, then the compile error Variable already defined occurs. But take a look at following example. public class Test{ int x=0;// Class scope variable public void m(){ int x=9; //redeclaration of x is valid within the scope of same x. if(true){ int x=7; // but this redeclaration generates a compile time error. } } Here, x can be redeclared in a method, although it's already declared in the class. But in the if block, x can't be redeclared. Why is it that redeclaration of a class scope variable doesn't generate an error, but a method scope variable redeclaration generates an error?

• Sql Server CE - Temporary disable auto increment on a specific collum

  Hi guys. I have this little question, thats been on my head for while now. Here it goes: Is it possible to temporary disable the Auto_Increment on the collum ID. So that i can add a new row to the table and being able specify the ID value when inserting the row. And then in the end enable the Auto_Increment again, and let do its work as usual? And if its possible how can i do it. The Table structure is very simple Collum Name (atributes) ID (Primary Key, Auto Increment, int, not null) Name (nvarchar(100), not null) Notice: The table name is: People. Lets also consider that the table already has data and cannot be changed. The database server is SQL Server CE. The SQL commands will be executed in a C# program, if its of any help. • 2D Inverse Kinematics Implementation

  Hi I am trying to implement Inverse Kinematics on a 2D arm(made up of three sticks with joints). I am able to rotate the lowest arm to the desired position. Now, I have some questions: How can I make the upper arm move alongwith the third so the end point of the arm reaches the desired point. Do I need to use the rotation matrices for both and if yes can someone give me some example or an help and is there any other possibl;e way to do this without rotation matrices??? The lowest arm only moves in one direction. I tried google it, they are saying that cross product of two vectors give the direction for the arm but this is for 3D. I am using 2D and cross product of two 2D vectors give a scalar. So, how can I determine its direction??? Plz guys any help would be appreciated.... Thanks in advance Vikram

  I edited my .gitconfig file to add support for LabView and it appears that I did something that Git doesn't exactly like. The problem is it (Git) doesn't tell me what it doesn't like. What did I do wrong? • Root certificate authority works windows/linux but not mac osx - (malformed)

  I have created a self-signed root certificate authority which if I install onto windows, linux, or even using the certificate store in firefox (windows/linux/macosx) will work perfectly with my terminating proxy. I have installed it into the system keychain and I have set the certificate to always trust. Within the chrome browser details it says "The certificate that Chrome received during this connection attempt is not formatted correctly, so Chrome cannot use it to protect your information. Error type: Malformed certificate" I used this code to create the certificate: openssl genrsa -des3 -passout pass:***** -out private/server.key 4096 openssl req -batch -passin pass:***** -new -x509 -nodes -sha1 -days 3600 -key private/server.key -out server.crt -config ../openssl.cnf If the issue is NOT that it is malformed (because it works everywhere else) then what else could it be? Am I installing it incorrectly? To be clear: Within the windows/linux OS, all browsers work perfectly. Within mac only firefox works if it uses its internal certificate store and not the keychain. It's the keychain method of importing a certificate that causes the issue. Thus, all browsers using the keychain will not work. • What AMF Servers Support Remote Shared Objects?

  Greetings. I'm planning on building a Flex based multiplayer game, and I'm researching what will be required for the server end. I have PHP experience, so I started looking at ZendAMF. Now in this game, I'll need the concept of rooms, and real time updates to clients in those rooms, so it looks like I'll be using remote shared objects (correct, yes?). I'm not seeing where ZendAMF can support this. So I found this page: http://arunbluebrain.wordpress.com/2009/03/04/flex-frameworks-httpcorlanorg/ It seems to indicate that ZendAMF isn't going to do what I want. WebORB for PHP seems to be the only PHP based solution that does messaging, but on that page it doesn't mention "real-time" next to it like the Java based ones below it do. What should I be looking at for the server piece with my requirements? Do I need to make the jump to something like BlazeDS and try to pick up a bit of Java knowledge? Thanks.

• iPhone UIWebView: loadData does not work with certain types (Excel, MSWord, PPT, RTF)

  My task is to display the supported document types on an iPhone with OS 3.x, such as .pdf, .rtf, .doc, .ppt, .png, .tiff etc. Now, I have stored these files only encrypted on disk. For security reasons, I want to avoid storing them unencrypted on disk. Hence, I prefer to use loadData:MIMEType:textEncodingName:baseURL: instead of loadRequest: to display the document because loadData allows me to pass the content in a NSData object, i.e. I can decrypt the file in memory and have no need to store it on disk, as it would be required when using loadRequest. The problem is that loadData does not appear to work with all file types: Testing shows that all picture types seem to work fine, as well as PDFs, while the more complex types don't. I get a errors such as: NSURLErrorDomain Code=100 NSURLErrorDomain Code=102 WebView appears to need a truly working URL for accessing the documents as a file, despite me offering all content via the NSData object already. Here's the code I use to display the content: [webView loadData:data MIMEType:type textEncodingName:@"utf-8" baseURL:nil]; The mime-type is properly set, e.g. to "application/msword" for .doc files. Does anyone know how I could get loadData to work with all types that loadRequest supports? Or, alternatively, is there some way I can tell which types do work for sure (i.e. officially sanctioned by Apple) with loadData? Then I can work twofold, creating a temp unencrypted file only for those cases that loadData won't like. Update Looks like I'm not the first one running into this. This is probably a bit more memory-intensive, though, as both the server and the webview will probably both hold the entire contents in memory as two copies then, as opposed to using loadData, where both would rather share the same data object. (Mind you, I'll have to hold the decrypted data in memory, that's the whole point here).

• utf8 codification problem C#, writing a tex file, and compiling with pdflatex

  Hi, i have the next code written in C#....it create a tex file using utf-8.....the problem is that appears that is not a real valid utf-8 file because, when i use pdflatex it doesn't recognize the characters with accents. Somebody knows a way to write a real UTF-8 file? When i use TexmakerX to create a utf8 file with the same latex code, pdflatex doesn't complaints, so the problem must be in the generation.
