  I am not able to get the repository for core-plot. The thing is that this book is highly theoretical and perplexing to me. I really appreciate the authors. But the point is i am not able to begin my project, as if i am blinded where to go.   Structure of my asp: repeater repeater updatePanel label1 (rating) button (updates rating) some_picture (thing being rated) /update panel /repeater Imagine the output of the above repeater containing 100 rows. (1 label, and 1 button on each row). Goal: when I click the button, I want the appropriate label to be updated. I dont know how to do this. I can reference a label via: Label myLabel2Update = (Label)Repeater1.Controls[0].Controls[0].FindControl("Label1"); But ofcourse, it will be the same label each time (not necessarily the label that needs to be updated). I need to update the label that is on the same row as the button. Any guidance would be appreciated.

• Help Me Understand C++ Header files and Classes

  OK, So I am trying to transition from intermediate Delphi to C++ Object Oriented programing. I have read Ivar Horton's book on visual C++ 2010. I can pull off the simple console applications no problem. I get the language itself (kinda). Where I am struggling is with headers and classes. I also understand what header files and classes do in general. What I am not getting is the implementation when do I use a header or a class? Do I need to create classes for everything I do? Do my actual work functions need to be in header files or in CPP files? I'm lost on the proper uses of these and could use some real world guidance from more experienced programmers. I am trying to transition to windows applications using the MFC if that is helpful.

The aim is to move the "confirm cancel" interaction to the control rather than having it in the ViewModel. Functional outline: 1) Have a property IsDirty, needs to support binding 2) Has two "states", controled by IsDirty IsDirty = false - Content is "Close" IsDirty = true - Content is "Cancel" 3) When clicked if it is Dirty show a message box to confirm cancel, before calling the command 4) Both states will call the command Usage would be <i:CancelButton Command="{Binding Path=CloseCommand}" IsDirty="{Binding Path=IsDirty}"/> I am looking for pointers, I think a Templated Control would be the best option, but need some guidance on how to do this

• How do you gracefully upgrade mission critical systems to wildly disparate systems?

  In the span of the 12+ years of my career, I have yet to overcome this hurdle and I suspect the answer simply isn't easy or even possible, so I ask everyone here for their experience. Say that you're running into egregious problems that can only be fixed by moving from one platform to another - either from making a mistake in choosing the platform that was chosen years ago, or simply growing beyond what the system was originally designed for. You know for certain that the cruft that has built up over time will invariably mean that it will be nearly impossible to test for all the things that will certainly lead to tech support hell - which we all know leads to the loss of customers. Not that customers aren't already complaining about the egregious problems that already exist! The best possible way that I've discovered so far is to maybe devise a plan for the changeover, test it on a few clients, test it on a dozen clients, test it on a hundred clients, then finally finish the changeover for everyone and pray that you've worked out all the bugs with those first hundred and twenty, and that the animal by-products will not hit the ventilation system in the most spectacular fashion possible. However, that doesn't mean that it won't anyway. So say that you're moving from Exchange to Exim (or even just Sendmail to Exim). How do you handle it?

  Is there a way of using a templated helper in mvc so that each and every select list in my project has a custom default 'Choose an option' with null value etc. The posts I have seen seem a little complex, is it possible to have a DropDownList.ascx file in shared view folder with something like this: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<IEnumerable<SelectListItem>>" %> <%= Html.DropDownList(selectlist name, selectlist value, "Choose an option")%> And then having a UIHint("DropDownList") for each dropdownlist in the ViewModel? Some guidance on syntax of parameters would be much appreciated, where name and value of the viewmodel dropdownlist plus the 'Choose an option' string are passed. Or is this all wishful thinking?

• How to do steps of an API through CLI/ batch mode without GUI

  I'm using Audiveris API to generate xml(MusicXML) file once the sheetmusic(e.g. pdf/img file) is being input (i.e. When I give the sheet music (pdf file) location, to generate the xml file out of it (in another location)). Audiveris has its own GUI to do this. But can I do this process of sheetmusic-to-xml without using their GUI, but only from the CLI? If so how may I approach it? And also if so - is there a possibility to make it work in CLI - using Java code (say to invoke steps for API to occur in the CLI using Java Code - I've heard this is possible using shell commands)? I managed to open the GUI by opening the jar file from CLI. But I need to know whether there's a possibility to carry out the entire sheetmusic(say pdf)-to-xml process without using their GUI, but only through CLI (i.e. in batch mode)? Greatly appreciate any help or guidance Thanks in advance

• How to put 1000 lightweight server applications in the cloud

  The company I work for sells a commercial desktop/server app that runs on any non dedicated Windows PC or server and uses Tomcat for all interactions with the application. Customers are asking that we host their instance of the application so they don't have to run it locally on their own servers. The app is lightweight and an average server, in theory, could handle 25-50 instances before users would notice a slowdown. However only 1 instance can run per Windows instance (because the application writes to a common registry branch) so we'd need something like VMWare to create 25-50 Windows instances. We know we eventually need to reprogram to make it truly cloud-worthy but what would you recommend for a server farm or whatever for this? We don't have the setup to purchase our own servers so we must use a 3rd party. We have budgeted $500 - $1000 per year per customer for this service. Thanks in advance for your suggestions, experiences and guidance.

  I have looked and searched for some guidance on how to start at a low point in a path and walk up (or 'back'), until I find a folder with the name I am searching for. The FileVisitor class looks like it ought to be able to help me, but it only seems to work from head to toe. Is there something that someone could point me to? • "_FILE_AND_LINE_ is not defined in this scope" (compiling RakNet NAT examples in OS X)

  Hello! I'm working on a RakNet-based project (using 3.8 on OS X 10.6), and I'm trying to work through the various examples that demonstrate the parts of RakNet I want to use. For the "NatCompleteClient" example, I've imported the source into a command-line project in XCode, along with the UPNP dependency. At compile time I've had a few errors in the UPNP section, though, and I can't find any guidance on this. In UPNPPortForwarder.mm, there are 7 lines that use _FILE_AND_LINE_, and the compiler is not happy; for example on line 232: foundInterfaces.Deallocate(r1,_FILE_AND_LINE_); causes: UPNPPortForwarder.mm:232: error: '_FILE_AND_LINE_' was not declared in this scope Can anyone tell me what this is all about? That variable doesn't seem to get talked about very often... or Google doesn't like to find it.

What i'm looking for is regarding some clarification as to what to provide as Evidence from the caller. I'm looking for advice and guidance. Any help would be appreciated.

• Cross Browser input field width stylization

  Hi, I have a shipping/billing input form and I'm having trouble styling the input fields to be the same width... Here is a link (click one of the order bottles to go to the checkout page which contains the form) The Problem: -a field <input type="text" size="X" /> appears to render with different sizes in different browsers (see link). -In addition, select fields seem to render on a differently as well. -Chrome/safari do not seem to respond to the font-size property for select fields. Any guidance on how to stylize the size of text-input and select fields cross-browser would be oh so very helpful. Must I result to having a different sytlesheet for each browser... just for these input fields? -thanks

• VirtualHost problem with passenger (mod_rails)

  Hi all, I'm at my wit's end here with virtual hosting. I'm trying to install redmine and it works with the webrick test server, but when I tried to use passenger (mod_rails) to host and go to the address I specified when in the virtualhost part of my apache config file nothing happens. Here is the relavent section of /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf where I try to set up the virtual host: <VirtualHost *:80> SetEnv RAILS_ENV production ServerName redmine.MYSITE.com:80 DocumentRoot /opt/redmine-1.0.5/public/ <Directory /opt/redmine-1.0.5/public/> Options -MultiViews Allow from all AllowOverride none </Directory> However, when I got to redmine.MYSITE.com:80 nothing happens, I just get our normal home page. I have no idea what the problem is, any help our guidance would be greatly appreciated. If you need any other information, please tell me and I'll provide it.

• Detecting if a browser's cache is full

  We've identified that full browser caches are the cause of a problem on our extranet. It only affects a small number of our users, but we'd like to alert them to the problem and give them some guidance on how to fix the problem for themselves. We'd like to use a similar system to the one which GMail uses. When it detects that your browser's cache is full, it shows a warning message telling users that their cache is full and that it may cause problems with GMail, along with a link to a Gmail Help page on clearing your browser's cache. Does anyone know if there any resources out there, or examples of how to use JavaScript to detect that the browser's cache is full? Thanks.

• C++ String manipulation isn't making sense to me...

  I am trying some of the Stanford SEE courses online to learn some new languages; this particular assignment has to do with removing substrings from strings. What I've got so far is below, but if text = "hello hello" and remove ="el", it gets stuck in a loop, but if i change text to text = "hello hllo", it works, making me think I'm doing something obviously stupid. • Anyone who actually got Tycho to work?

  I'm trying to get Tycho working with m2eclipse. Problem is that all I find are outdated sites and old versions to download. I've found my way to hxxp://github.com/sonatype/sonatype-tycho and downloaded the source. Problem is that the guide at https://docs.sonatype.org/display/TYCHO/BuildingTycho isn't of much help. When trying to build I run into an error message saying I'm using invalid syntax..... And there seems to be nowhere to ask for further guidance. So are there anyone out there who actually got this working? Or got a better alternative for continuous integration / automatic build solution for eclipse plug-ins?

• Screen capture during testing

  This is an application for reviewing performance tests. Simple in concept, tricky to describe. Picture: 1) Recording interactions with a WPF program so the inputs can be played back. 2) Playing the inputs back while doing a continuous screen capture. 3) Capturing wall time as well as continuous CPU percentages during playback. 4) Repeating steps (2) and (3) lots of times. 5) Writing the relevant stuff out to files/db. 6) Reading it and putting it all in a fancy UI for easy review/analysis. The killer for me is (2). I could use some guidance on a good, possibly commercial, screen capture SDK. I would also welcome the news that my whole problem already has a solution. • iCalcreator 2.6 event creation sent in an email w/o attachment

  G'day everyone, I am currently trying to send meeting invitations to Outlook recipients. After reading several blogs and various literature iCalcreator seems to be the most complete iCalendar PHP class available. And the documentation is just...crazily complete. If creating a iCal .ics file is OK, I can't find a nice way to send it by email to the attendees without having them to double click on an attachment. Just like Google Calendar and Outlook do, I would like to send emails that will automatically show the buttons Accept | Tentative | Decline upon reception without any other user action involved. If anyone ever had to realize that, I would be more than happy to get your feedback/help or even just relevant guidance. Thanks

I mean that's what I want to do, some people go to game schools (Vancouver Film School) to make games or work in that industry. are there such similar programs for enterprise software design/development ? Are there special courses in Java EE space and .NET ? is it suitable to just focus on java or both ? • feedback for programming newbies looking to build a social networking site?

  my partner and i are launching a social learning platform - the requirements have been mapped out and are quite basic/intuitive. we are familiar with html/css, and have some very basic understanding of php, but we would love some feedback on whether we should tackle this ourselves or not. we've built websites, but in the past relied mostly on pre-fab code, i.e. wordpress, ning, etc. we've been looking specifically at ruby for developing the network, but i haven't delved into it fully yet. we're looking for some guidance and feedback - e.g. thoughts on ruby on rails? what's the learning curve? are we getting in over our heads? thanks in advance!
