  • PHP SQL, SELECT corresponding data from 3 tables at once?

    - by user346325
I have 3 tables, 'u' 'd' 's' 'u' has userid divid 'd' has divid divname 's' has sname primaryuserid secondaryuserid Now what I'd like to do is display a table with rows of the following format userid, divname, sname Plus figure out a way to decipher whether userid is a primary or secondary for this sname table. I'm able to show userid and divname using a left join, but I don't know how I would add a third table? To make it trickier, there can be more than 1 snames for each userid, up to ~20. Is there a way to display 0-20 snames depending on the userid, seperated with commas?

  • nginx can't load images,css,js

    - by EquinoX
When I point to a URL in nginx where it has images extension such as: http://50.56.81.42/phpMyAdmin/themes/original/img/logo_right.png (as example) it gives me the 404 error as it can't find the file, but the file is actually there. What is potentially wrong? UPDATE: Here's the error log that I was able to pull out: 2011/02/27 05:53:29 [error] 18679#0: *225 open() "/usr/local/nginx/html/phpMyAdmin/js/mooRainbow/mooRainbow.css" failed (2: No such file or directory), client: 70.176.18.156, server: localhost, request: "GET /phpMyAdmin/js/mooRainbow/mooRainbow.css HTTP/1.1", host: "50.56.81.42", referrer: "http://50.56.81.42/phpMyAdmin/main.php" 2011/02/27 05:53:29 [error] 18679#0: *226 open() "/usr/local/nginx/html/phpMyAdmin/print.css" failed (2: No such file or directory), client: 70.176.18.156, server: localhost, request: "GET /phpMyAdmin/print.css HTTP/1.1", host: "50.56.81.42", referrer: "http://50.56.81.42/phpMyAdmin/main.php" 2011/02/27 05:53:29 [error] 18679#0: *228 open() "/usr/local/nginx/html/phpMyAdmin/themes/original/img/logo_right.png" failed (2: No such file or directory), client: 70.176.18.156, server: localhost, request: "GET /phpMyAdmin/themes/original/img/logo_right.png HTTP/1.1", host: "50.56.81.42", referrer: "http://50.56.81.42/phpMyAdmin/main.php" 2011/02/27 05:53:29 [error] 18679#0: *223 open() "/usr/local/nginx/html/phpMyAdmin/themes/original/img/b_help.png" failed (2: No such file or directory), client: 70.176.18.156, server: localhost, request: "GET /phpMyAdmin/themes/original/img/b_help.png HTTP/1.1", host: "50.56.81.42", referrer: "http://50.56.81.42/phpMyAdmin/main.php" 2011/02/27 05:53:29 [error] 18679#0: *227 open() "/usr/local/nginx/html/phpMyAdmin/themes/original/img/s_warn.png" failed (2: No such file or directory), client: 70.176.18.156, server: localhost, request: "GET /phpMyAdmin/themes/original/img/s_warn.png HTTP/1.1", host: "50.56.81.42", referrer: "http://50.56.81.42/phpMyAdmin/main.php" 2011/02/27 05:53:29 [error] 18679#0: *227 open() "/usr/local/nginx/html/phpMyAdmin/favicon.ico" failed (2: No such file or directory), client: 70.176.18.156, server: localhost, request: "GET /phpMyAdmin/favicon.ico HTTP/1.1", host: "50.56.81.42" 2011/02/27 05:54:39 [error] 18679#0: *237 open() "/usr/local/nginx/html/phpMyAdmin/print.css" failed (2: No such file or directory), client: 70.176.18.156, server: localhost, request: "GET /phpMyAdmin/print.css HTTP/1.1", host: "50.56.81.42", referrer: "http://50.56.81.42/phpMyAdmin/main.php" 2011/02/27 05:54:39 [error] 18679#0: *235 open() "/usr/local/nginx/html/phpMyAdmin/js/mooRainbow/mooRainbow.css" failed (2: No such file or directory), client: 70.176.18.156, server: localhost, request: "GET /phpMyAdmin/js/mooRainbow/mooRainbow.css HTTP/1.1", host: "50.56.81.42", referrer: "http://50.56.81.42/phpMyAdmin/main.php" 2011/02/27 05:54:39 [error] 18679#0: *238 open() "/usr/local/nginx/html/phpMyAdmin/themes/original/img/logo_right.png" failed (2: No such file or directory), client: 70.176.18.156, server: localhost, request: "GET /phpMyAdmin/themes/original/img/logo_right.png HTTP/1.1", host: "50.56.81.42", referrer: "http://50.56.81.42/phpMyAdmin/main.php" 2011/02/27 05:54:39 [error] 18679#0: *239 open() "/usr/local/nginx/html/phpMyAdmin/themes/original/img/b_help.png" failed (2: No such file or directory), client: 70.176.18.156, server: localhost, request: "GET /phpMyAdmin/themes/original/img/b_help.png HTTP/1.1", host: "50.56.81.42", referrer: "http://50.56.81.42/phpMyAdmin/main.php" 2011/02/27 05:54:39 [error] 18679#0: *233 open() "/usr/local/nginx/html/phpMyAdmin/themes/original/img/s_warn.png" failed (2: No such file or directory), client: 70.176.18.156, server: localhost, request: "GET /phpMyAdmin/themes/original/img/s_warn.png HTTP/1.1", host: "50.56.81.42", referrer: "http://50.56.81.42/phpMyAdmin/main.php" 2011/02/27 05:54:39 [error] 18679#0: *233 open() "/usr/local/nginx/html/phpMyAdmin/favicon.ico" failed (2: No such file or directory), client: 70.176.18.156, server: localhost, request: "GET /phpMyAdmin/favicon.ico HTTP/1.1", host: "50.56.81.42" Here's my nginx.conf file, in case I am missing something: #user nobody; • Apache mod_deflate not compressing javascript and css files?

  • Background-color puzzle on CSS for heading/title div.

    - by ProfK
    I have the following title div setup, but when only the leftmost div has content, the red background for the title is not applied. Why is this, as the 'title' div has content, and its background should be red. Head stuff: <title>Into the Breech</title> <link href="Styles/Reset.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <style type="text/css"> body { font-family: Arial, Sans-Serif, System; } #title { background-color: #F71831; font-weight: bold; } .title-segment-left { float: left; } </style> Body stuff: <div id="title"> <div id="menu-title" class="title-segment-left" style="width: 200px;"> Menu </div> <div id="main-title" class="title-segment-left" style="width: auto;"> Home Page </div> <div id="right-title" style="float: right;"> Provantage Media Management System </div> </div>

  • Why are my descenders being cut off when using CSS @font-face?

    - by Olly Hodgson
    I'm using the Google webfonts API to embed Droid Sans on a page. All is fine, except for the descenders (i.e. the dangly bits on y, g, etc). The latest versions of Firefox, IE and Chrome on my Windows Vista box are all cutting the bottom off. <!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <title>Droid sans descender test</title> <meta charset="utf-8"> <link href="http://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Droid+Sans:regular,bold" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css"> <style type="text/css"> body { font-size: 16px; font-family: "Droid Sans"sans-serif; } h1, h2, h3 { margin: 1em 0; font-weight: normal; } h1 { font-size: 2em; } h2 { font-size: 1.5em; } h3 { font-size: 1em; } </style> </head> <body> <h1>A bug ran under the carpet anyway</h1> <h2>A bug ran under the carpet anyway</h2> <h3>A bug ran under the carpet anyway</h3> </body> </html> The above code looks like this: I've tried line-height, font-size, padding etc to no avail. I had some success with font-size-adjust, but the last time I checked it was Gecko only. Does anybody know of a fix for this?

  • CSS style to create an HTML with an image on left and input text boxes on right that fills all space

    - by dafi
    I need to create an HTML page (a JqueryUI dialog but this isn't the problem) containing an image on left (size is fixed to 75x75) and on right some input text boxes, input boxes must resize to all remaining space. You can see an example at http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/5412/19483174.jpg The problem is that when I resize the dialog controls move under image as shown at http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/4817/44749696.jpg How can I resolve this problem in all browser and if possible using only CSS? Below I show my HTML code and the CSS I'm using HTML code <div id="dialog-form" title="Modify Post"> <form action=""> <fieldset> <img id="dialog-modify-thumb" src="http://dummyimage.com/75x75/000/fff" alt="" width="75" height="75"/> <div id="dialog-modify-controls"> <label for="dialog-modify-caption">Caption</label> <input type="text" name="dialog-modify-caption" id="dialog-modify-caption"/> <br/> <label for="dialog-modify-tags">Tags</label> <input type="text" name="dialog-modify-tags" id="dialog-modify-tags"/> <br/> <label for="dialog-modify-publish-date">Publish Date</label> <input type="text" name="dialog-modify-publish-date" id="dialog-modify-publish-date"/> </div> </fieldset> </form> </div> The CSS #dialog-modify-thumb { margin-right: 3px; border: 1px solid; display: block; float:left; } #dialog-form input[type='text'] { width: 100%; } #dialog-modify-controls { float: right; width:100%; }

  • What other things would be good to include in CSS reset (along with eric meyer reset) for any projec

  • CSS doesn't apply to dynamically created elements in IE 7?

    - by Austin Hyde
In the project I am working on, I dynamically generate (with javascript) filters that look like this: <div class="filter"> <a ... class="filter_delete_link">Delete</a> <div class="filter_field"> ... </div> <div class="filter_compare"> ... </div> <div class="filter_constraint"> ... </div> <div class="filter_logic"> ... </div> </div> And I have CSS that applies to each filter (for example): .filter a.filter_delete_link{ display:block; height:16px; background: url('../images/remove_16.gif') no-repeat; padding-left:20px; } However, it seems in IE 7 (and probably 6 for that matter), these styles don't get applied to the new filters. Everything works perfectly in Firefox/Chrome/IE8. Using the IE8 developer tools, set to IE7 mode, the browser can see the new elements, and can see the CSS, but just isn't applying the CSS. Is there a way to force IE to reload styles, or perhaps is there a better way to fix this?

  • What is it in the CSS/DOM that prevents an input box with display: block from expanding to the size of its container

    - by Steven Xu
Sample HTML/CSS: <div class="container"> <input type="text" /> <div class="filler"></div> </div> div.container { padding: 5px; border: 1px solid black; background-color: gray; } div.filler { background-color: red; height: 5px; } input { display: block; } http://jsfiddle.net/bPEkb/3/ Question Why doesn't the input box expand to have the same outer width as, say div.filler? That is to say, why doesn't the input box expand to fit its container like other block elements with width: auto; do? I tried checking the "User Agent CSS" in Firebug to see if I could come up with something there. No luck. I couldn't find any specific differences in CSS that I could specifically link to the input box behaving differently from the regular div.filler. Besides curiousity, I'd like to know why this is to get to the bottom of it to figure out a way to set width once and forget it. My current practice of explicitly setting the width of both input and its containing block element seems redundant and less than modular. While I'm familiar with the technique of wrapping the input element in a div then assigning to the input element negative margins, this seems quite undesirable.

  • How can I restore the "auto" values with for list-style-type in nested unordered lists with CSS?

    - by Michael
By default, an unstyled set of nested <ul> lists looks like this (in Chrome, Firefox, and IE at least): The top level has a list-style-type of disc, the next level is circle, and subsequent levels are square. If I include a stylesheet that changes the list-style-type to none, is there a simple way to revert back to the "automatic bullet types" later in the document? (e.g., override with a subsequent CSS definition or JavaScript style change) Basically, I'm looking for something like list-style-type: auto; (which is apparently not valid and has no effect): <style type="text/css"> ul { list-style-type: none; } ul { list-style-type: auto; } /* Does not work */ </style> Setting the list-style-type back to disc changes every bullet in the list and I no longer see different bullets at different levels, so that doesn't work either. Is the only way to accomplish this by explicitly defining styles for every level? e.g.: <style type="text/css"> ul { list-style-type: disc; } ul ul { list-style-type: circle; } ul ul ul { list-style-type: square; } </style>

  • Is there a way to have the equivalent of multiple :before and :after pseudo-elements in CSS?

    - by Sergey Basharov
Currently I have this markup that represents an icon container and some elements styled with CSS inside it that in the end show as graphic icon. <div class="icon"> <div class="icon-element1"></div> <div class="icon-element2"></div> <div class="icon-element3"></div> </div> The number of the child elements can be different depending on the complexity of the icon. What I want is to somehow move as much as possible to CSS stylesheet, so that ideally I would have only <div class="icon"></div> and the rest would just render from CSS styles, something close in concept to :before/:after, a kind of virtual divs. I don't want to use JavaScript to add the elements dynamically. It would be possible to do this if we had multiple :before/:after. Here is an example of an icon I get by using the markup from above: As you can see, there are 3 child elements representing gray case, white screen and turquoise button. Please advise, how I can simplify this markup so that not to have to put all the divs each time I want this icon to be shown.

  • How to convert a rectangle to TRBL CSS rect value?

    - by VLostBoy
I'm not quite sure how to put this, but here goes... The css clip attribute is defined like so: rect(top, right, bottom, left). However, I'm exploring the use of a custom Rectangle 'class' to encapsulate some operations. The rectangle class has the attributes height, width and x, y. The x and y values are encapsulated in a Point object, and the height and width are encapsulated in a Dimension object, the rectangle being a composite of a point (its top-left location) and a dimension (width and height). So far so good. I though it would be pretty simple on the basis of having the rectangles x, y, width and height values to define the css rect attribute in terms of top, right, bottom, left, but I've become hopelessly confused- I've been googling for a while, and I can't seem to find any documentation as to what the TRBL values actually are or what they represent. For example, should I be thinking in terms of co-ordinates, in which case, surely I can describe the rectangle as a css rect using the rectangles x position for Top, x position + width for Right, the rectangles height + y for Bottom and its y position for Left... but thats a load of BS, surely? Also, surely rect is actually an inset, or have I just inverted my understanding of clip? I'd appreciate some advice. What I want to be able to do is (i) Define a rectangle using x, y, width and height (ii)Express the rectangle in TRBL form so that I can manipulate a divs clipping behaviour (iii)Change x, y, width or height and recalculate in terms of TRBL and goto (ii) I appreciate there are some other factors here, and some intermediary transforms to be done, but I've confused myself pretty badly- Can anyone give me some pointers?

  • [PHP, CSS, & ?] fixed width div, resizing text on the fly based on length

    - by Andrew Heath
Let's say you've got a simple fixed-width layout that pulls a title from a MySQL database. CSS: #wrapper { width: 800px; } h1 { width: 100%; } HTML: <html> <body> <div id="wrapper"> <h1> $titleString </h1> </div> </body> </html> But the catch is, the length of the title string pulled from your MySQL database varies wildly. Sometimes it might be 10 characters, sometimes it might be 80. It's possible to establish a min & max character count. How, if at all possible, do I get the text-size of my <h1>$titleString</h1> to enlarge/decrease on-the-fly such that the string is only ever on one line and best fit to that line length? I've seen a lot of questions about resizing the div - but in my case the div must always be 100% (800px) and I want to best-fit the title. Obviously a maximum text-size value would have to be set so 5 character strings don't become gargantuan. Does anyone have a suggestion? I'm only using PHP/MySQL/CSS on this page at the moment, but incorporation of another language is fine if it means I can solve the problem. The only thing I can think of is a bruteforce approach whereby through trial and error I establish acceptable string character count ranges matched with CSS em sizes, but that'd be a pretty ugly implementation from the code side.

  • How to talk a client out of a Flash website?

    - by bunglestink
I have recently been doing a bunch of web side projects through word of mouth recommendations only. Although I am much more a of a programmer than a designer by any means, my design skills are not terrible, and do not hate dealing with UI like many programmers. As a result, I find myself lured into a bunch of side projects where aside from a minimal back end for content administration, most of the programming is on front end interfaces (read javascript/css). By far the biggest frustration I have had is convincing clients that they do not want Flash. Aside the fact that I really do not enjoy Flash "development", there are many practical reasons why Flash is not desirable (lack of compatibility across devices, decreased client accessibility, plug-in requirements, increased development time, etc.). Instead of just flat out telling the clients "I will not build you a flash website", I would much rather use tactics to convince/explain to them that this is not what they actually want, ie: meet their requirements any better than standard html/css/js and distract users from their content. What kind of first hand experience do others have with this? How do you explain to someone that javascript/css/AJAX is usually a better option for most websites? Why do people want to use Flash so bad to begin with? This question pertains to clients who do not have any technical reasons for wanting flash, but just want it because they think it makes pretty websites.

How: Surprisingly IE supports this feature rather well. You could use property filters in IE, but since this is only supported on IE browsers, I would not recommend it. CSS3, still in proposal state, has a "writing-mode" property for doing this. It has been part of IE's browser engine since IE5.5. Now that it is part of the CSS3 draft specification, would be the best way to implement this going forward. Webkit based browsers; Firefox 3.5+, Opera 11 and IE9 implement this feature differently by utilizing the transform property. Without using third-party JavaScript or CSS properties, we can use the CSS3 "writing-mode" property, supported from IE5.5 up to IE8, the latter adding addition formatting options through -ms extensions. <style type="text/css"> .rightToLeft{ writing-mode: tb-rl; } </style> <p class="rightToLeft">This is my text</p> This will rotate the text 90 degrees, starting from the right to the left. Here are all the options: ·         lr-tb – Default value, left to right, top to bottom ·         rl-tb – Right to left, top to bottom ·         tb-rl – Vertically; top to bottom, right to left ·         bt-rl – Vertically; bottom to top, right to left ·         tb-lr – Available in IE8+: -ms-writing-mode; top to bottom, left to right ·         bt-lr – Bottom to top, left to right ·         lr-bt – Left to right, bottom to top What about Firefox, Safari, etc.? The following techniques need to be used on Webkit browsers like Firefox, Opera 11, Google Chrome and IE9. These browsers require their proprietary vendor extensions: -moz-, -webkit-, -o- and -ms-. -webkit-transform: rotate(90deg);    -moz-transform: rotate(90deg); -ms-transform: rotate(90deg); -o-transform: rotate(90deg); transform: rotate(90deg);

  • Faster, Simpler access to Azure Tables with Enzo Azure API

    - by Herve Roggero
After developing the latest version of Enzo Cloud Backup I took the time to create an API that would simplify access to Azure Tables (the Enzo Azure API). At first, my goal was to make the code simpler compared to the Microsoft Azure SDK. But as it turns out it is also a little faster; and when using the specialized methods (the fetch strategies) it is much faster out of the box than the Microsoft SDK, unless you start creating complex parallel and resilient routines yourself. Last but not least, I decided to add a few extension methods that I think you will find attractive, such as the ability to transform a list of entities into a DataTable. So let’s review each area in more details. Simpler Code My first objective was to make the API much easier to use than the Azure SDK. I wanted to reduce the amount of code necessary to fetch entities, remove the code needed to add automatic retries and handle transient conditions, and give additional control, such as a way to cancel operations, obtain basic statistics on the calls, and control the maximum number of REST calls the API generates in an attempt to avoid throttling conditions in the first place (something you cannot do with the Azure SDK at this time). Strongly Typed Before diving into the code, the following examples rely on a strongly typed class called MyData. The way MyData is defined for the Azure SDK is similar to the Enzo Azure API, with the exception that they inherit from different classes. With the Azure SDK, classes that represent entities must inherit from TableServiceEntity, while classes with the Enzo Azure API must inherit from BaseAzureTable or implement a specific interface. // With the SDK public class MyData1 : TableServiceEntity {     public string Message { get; set; }     public string Level { get; set; }     public string Severity { get; set; } } //  With the Enzo Azure API public class MyData2 : BaseAzureTable {     public string Message { get; set; }     public string Level { get; set; }     public string Severity { get; set; } } Simpler Code Now that the classes representing an Azure Table entity are defined, let’s review the methods that the Azure SDK would look like when fetching all the entities from an Azure Table (note the use of a few variables: the _tableName variable stores the name of the Azure Table, and the ConnectionString property returns the connection string for the Storage Account containing the table): // With the Azure SDK public List<MyData1> FetchAllEntities() {      CloudStorageAccount storageAccount = CloudStorageAccount.Parse(ConnectionString);      CloudTableClient tableClient = storageAccount.CreateCloudTableClient();      TableServiceContext serviceContext = tableClient.GetDataServiceContext();      CloudTableQuery<MyData1> partitionQuery =         (from e in serviceContext.CreateQuery<MyData1>(_tableName)         select new MyData1()         {            PartitionKey = e.PartitionKey,            RowKey = e.RowKey,            Timestamp = e.Timestamp,            Message = e.Message,            Level = e.Level,            Severity = e.Severity            }).AsTableServiceQuery<MyData1>();        return partitionQuery.ToList();  } This code gives you automatic retries because the AsTableServiceQuery does that for you. Also, note that this method is strongly-typed because it is using LINQ. Although this doesn’t look like too much code at first glance, you are actually mapping the strongly-typed object manually. So for larger entities, with dozens of properties, your code will grow. And from a maintenance standpoint, when a new property is added, you may need to change the mapping code. You will also note that the mapping being performed is optional; it is desired when you want to retrieve specific properties of the entities (not all) to reduce the network traffic. If you do not specify the properties you want, all the properties will be returned; in this example we are returning the Message, Level and Severity properties (in addition to the required PartitionKey, RowKey and Timestamp). The Enzo Azure API does the mapping automatically and also handles automatic reties when fetching entities. The equivalent code to fetch all the entities (with the same three properties) from the same Azure Table looks like this: // With the Enzo Azure API public List<MyData2> FetchAllEntities() {        AzureTable at = new AzureTable(_accountName, _accountKey, _ssl, _tableName);        List<MyData2> res = at.Fetch<MyData2>("", "Message,Level,Severity");        return res; } As you can see, the Enzo Azure API returns the entities already strongly typed, so there is no need to map the output. Also, the Enzo Azure API makes it easy to specify the list of properties to return, and to specify a filter as well (no filter was provided in this example; the filter is passed as the first parameter).  Fetch Strategies Both approaches discussed above fetch the data sequentially. In addition to the linear/sequential fetch methods, the Enzo Azure API provides specific fetch strategies. Fetch strategies are designed to prepare a set of REST calls, executed in parallel, in a way that performs faster that if you were to fetch the data sequentially. For example, if the PartitionKey is a GUID string, you could prepare multiple calls, providing appropriate filters ([‘a’, ‘b’[, [‘b’, ‘c’[, [‘c’, ‘d[, …), and send those calls in parallel. As you can imagine, the code necessary to create these requests would be fairly large. With the Enzo Azure API, two strategies are provided out of the box: the GUID and List strategies. If you are interested in how these strategies work, see the Enzo Azure API Online Help. Here is an example code that performs parallel requests using the GUID strategy (which executes more than 2 t o3 times faster than the sequential methods discussed previously): public List<MyData2> FetchAllEntitiesGUID() {     AzureTable at = new AzureTable(_accountName, _accountKey, _ssl, _tableName);     List<MyData2> res = at.FetchWithGuid<MyData2>("", "Message,Level,Severity");     return res; } Faster Results With Sequential Fetch Methods Developing a faster API wasn’t a primary objective; but it appears that the performance tests performed with the Enzo Azure API deliver the data a little faster out of the box (5%-10% on average, and sometimes to up 50% faster) with the sequential fetch methods. Although the amount of data is the same regardless of the approach (and the REST calls are almost exactly identical), the object mapping approach is different. So it is likely that the slight performance increase is due to a lighter API. Using LINQ offers many advantages and tremendous flexibility; nevertheless when fetching data it seems that the Enzo Azure API delivers faster.  For example, the same code previously discussed delivered the following results when fetching 3,000 entities (about 1KB each). The average elapsed time shows that the Azure SDK returned the 3000 entities in about 5.9 seconds on average, while the Enzo Azure API took 4.2 seconds on average (39% improvement). With Fetch Strategies When using the fetch strategies we are no longer comparing apples to apples; the Azure SDK is not designed to implement fetch strategies out of the box, so you would need to code the strategies yourself. Nevertheless I wanted to provide out of the box capabilities, and as a result you see a test that returned about 10,000 entities (1KB each entity), and an average execution time over 5 runs. The Azure SDK implemented a sequential fetch while the Enzo Azure API implemented the List fetch strategy. The fetch strategy was 2.3 times faster. Note that the following test hit a limit on my network bandwidth quickly (3.56Mbps), so the results of the fetch strategy is significantly below what it could be with a higher bandwidth. Additional Methods The API wouldn’t be complete without support for a few important methods other than the fetch methods discussed previously. The Enzo Azure API offers these additional capabilities: - Support for batch updates, deletes and inserts - Conversion of entities to DataRow, and List<> to a DataTable - Extension methods for Delete, Merge, Update, Insert - Support for asynchronous calls and cancellation - Support for fetch statistics (total bytes, total REST calls, retries…) For more information, visit http://www.bluesyntax.net or go directly to the Enzo Azure API page (http://www.bluesyntax.net/EnzoAzureAPI.aspx). • Finding back to an old project that was turned upside-down by the developer. Your workflow?

    - by Kreativrandale
after some time I'm asked to work on a heavy web-project I did (layout, html/css) about a year ago. There are some changes that have to be made, basically some css and js stuff. By now the whole project was turned upside down by the developer. It gives me a hard time to connect to the work of him, especially because my old files and file-structure won't work anymore. Thats why I need a up-to-date working-environment, but I don't want to change the files on the server directly. Need some testing and improving while doing this. So, what is your workflow in such a case? Thought about copying the whole/parts of the server to a own homeserver. But even that will be a big task for me (I'm more the front-end-guy). Would be great if theres a way to shrink it down (php, mysql,...), since I only need to change some css/html javascript. Are there any tools available? Love to hear how you handle such situations. Thanks a lot!

  • Make all text EXCEPT <input> unselectable in Internet Explorer? [migrated]

    - by Ashli
I have a website where I want to disable users from selecting content EXCEPT for input areas. I currently have some CSS to disable user-select: -webkit-user-select: none; -khtml-user-select: none; -moz-user-select: none; -o-user-select: none; user-select: none; However, this does NOT cover Internet Explorer; thus, I need to implement some JavaScript: <body onselectstart="return false;"> Through CSS and JavaScript, I can make all content unselectable across all popular browsers. BUT, this code also makes areas unselectable, which is a major case of poor usability. I use CSS to make input areas selectable: -webkit-user-select: text; -khtml-user-select: text; -moz-user-select: text; -o-user-select: text; user-select: text; .. and as you might have expected, this does not cover Internet Explorer, since I used JavaScript to disable all content from being selectable. What can I do to make all content unselectable except for input areas?

  • django : nginx : jquery css not being served

    - by PlanetUnknown
I'm using apache+mod_wsgi for django. And all css/js/images are served through nginx. For some odd, reason when others/friends/colleagues try accessing the site, jquery/css is not getting loaded for them, hence the page looks jumbled up. My html files use code like this - <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="http://x.x.x.x:8000/css/custom.css"/> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://1x.x.x.x:8000/js/custom.js"></script> My nginx configuration in sites-available is like this - server { listen 8000; server_name localhost; access_log /var/log/nginx/aa8000.access.log; error_log /var/log/nginx/aa8000.error.log; location / { index index.html index.htm; } location /static/ { autoindex on; root /opt/aa/webroot/; } } There is a directory /opt/aa/webroot/static/ which have corresponding css & js directories. The odd thing is that the pages show fine when I access them. I have cleared my cache/etc, but the page loads fine for me, from various browsers. Also, I don't see any 404 any error in the nginx log files. Actually the logs for nginx are not getting refreshed at all. I restarted the nginx server using root, is that incorrect ? There is a user www-data defined in the nginx configuration file. Any pointers would be great.

  • Chaining CSS classes in IE6 - Trying to find a jQuery solution?

    - by Mike Baxter
Right, perhaps I ask the impossible? I consider myself fairly new to Javscript and jQuery, but that being said, I have written some fairly complex code recently so I am definitely getting there... however I am now possed with a rather interesting issue at my current freelance contract. The previous web coder has taken a Grid-960 approach to the HTML and as a result has used chained classes to style many of the elements. The example below is typical of what can be found in the code: <div class='blocks four-col-1 orange highlight'>Some content</div> And in the css there will be different declarations for: (not actual css... but close enough) .blocks {margin-right:10px;} .orange {background-image:url(someimage.jpg);} .highlight {font-weight:bold;} .four-col-1 {width:300px;} and to make matters worse... this is in the CSS: .blocks.orange.highlight {background-colour:#dd00ff;} Anyone not familiar with this particular bug can read more on it here: http://www.ryanbrill.com/archives/multiple-classes-in-ie/ it is very real and very annoying. Without wanting to go into the merrits of not chaining classes (I told them this, but it is no longer feasible to change their approach... 100 hand coded pages into a 150 page website, no CMS... sigh) and without the luxury of being able to change the way these blocks are styled... can anyone advise me on the complexity and benefits between any of my below proposed approaches or possible other options that would adequately solve this problem. Potential Solution 1 Using conditional comments I am considering loading a jquery script only for IE6 that: Reads the class of all divs in a certain section of the page and pushes to an array creates empty boxes off screen with only one of the classes applied at a time Reads the applied CSS values for each box Re-applies these styles to the individual box, somehow bearing in mind the order in which they are called and overwriting conflicting instructions as required Potential Solution 2 read the class of all divs in a certain section of the page and push to an array Scan the document for links to style sheets Ajax grab the stylesheets and traverse looking for matching names to those in class array Apply styles as needed Potential Solution 3 Create an IE6 only stylesheet containing the exact style to be applied as a unique name (ie: class='blocks orange highlight' becomes class='blocks-orange-highlight') Traverse the document in IE6 and convert all spaces in class declarations to hyphens and reapply classes based on new style name Summary: Solution 1 allows the people at this company to apply any styles in the future and the script will adjust as needed. However it does not allow for the chained style to be added, only the individual style... it is also processor intensive and time consuming, but also the most likely to be converted into a plugin that could be used the world over Solution 2 is a potential nightmare to code. But again will allow for an endless number of updates without breaking Solution 3 will require someone at the companty to hardcode the new styles every time they make a change, and if they don't, IE6 will break. Ironically the site, whilst needing to conform to IE6 in a limited manner, does not need to run wihtout javascript (they've made the call... have JS or go away), so consider all jQuery and JS solutions to be 'game on'. Did I mention how much i hate IE6? Anyway... any thoughts or comments would be appreciated. I will continue to develop my own solution and if I discover one that can be turned into a jQuery plugin I will post it here in the comments. Regards, Mike.

  • how to make css submenu stay put when subpage has been selected.

    - by Ronedog
I have a css horizontal menu with a menu / submenu display working on the hover, but I would also like to make the submenu options stay put when I've selected that page. The code below shows the submenu on hover, but goes away on mouse out. I'm having some difficulty figuring out how to make my code work to keep the submenu items staying put? How can I do this? Thanks for your help. • Can we solve the table row background image problem, in chrome, in multi celled tables??

    - by Ya'el
It is frequently asked – but I haven’t seen a good answer yet (and I looked). If you set a background image in CSS to a table row- the image will repeat itself in every cell. If you set the position: relative (for the row) and set the background-image: none (for the cells) it solves the problem on IE but not on chrome! I can't use background positioning since there are many calls and their size varies. (And the picture is not symmetrical- It's a fade out from one side. Anybody?? Example for the css code : tr { height: 30px; position:relative;} tr.green {background: url('green_30.png') no-repeat left top;} tr.orange {background: url('oranger_30.png') no-repeat left top;} tr.red {background: url('red_30.png') no-repeat left top;} td {background-image:none;} The HTML is basic - A multi cell table. The goal is to have different colors fade into every row, but it could be any non-pattern image.
