• Changing terminal colors in Ubuntu Server

  I'd like to change the colors. The lime green hilighting on pale blue colored file names is killing my eyes. I'm not sure if I'm using xterm or gnome or whatever, but I would like to change the default color scheme (preferable to something less offensive to my corneas) and have it stay changed (update my user profile). Colors are nice, but sometimes it makes the text unreadable. I would settle for having no colors, standard B&W, if I can't have nice colors.

  Hi I have a fresh install of Crunchbang (basically Ubuntu with Openbox instead of Gnome). In any case, I can't connect to my WPA network - when I click on it in the nm-applet and it asks me to authenticate my only options are: WEP 10/128-bit key WEP 128-bit Passphrase LEAP Dynamic WEP (802.1x) wpa_supplicant is indeed installed, yet WPA does not get listed... any ideas?

• How to setup IIS extranet site for unsecure access internally and secure (ssl) access from external

  I have an enterprise extranet application that is accessed using an internal DNS entry for the machine name by employees and via a domain name that has SSL configured externally. Currently remote sessions can use either the http or https address, but we want to turn off http access for external sessions while leaving it enabled for internal users.   The question says it all. All i want is that my W-Lan connection should be disabled whenever a wired connection is available. What would be the easiest way to do that in Ubuntu/Gnome? In all guides (for instance some about guessnet) i found i had to configure my whole network configuration (WPA keys, DHCP, ...), but i find that a bit too complicated for such a simple use case. I just want to disable wlan0 when eth0 is connected.

  I have concerns about the performance of the following architecture: j2ee application in an appserver, ejb session bean and DAOs remote (rich) client, a swing app. A classic, form-based client only one stateless ejb, the ejb is accessed via web services, not rmi, through a homegrown framework each web service request will get authenticated against an LDAP no state stored on the server, only client-side sessions I guess working on the rich GUI will involve a remote call in every 2-10 seconds, or more, per user. • Have Ubuntu auto-connect to wireless AP without logging in

  We have an ubuntu box set up to do some monitoring but due to the placement are unable to run CAT5 to the box itself. I have an Atheros PCI card that works great as long as someone is logged into Gnome and it doesn't disconnect from the AP during that time. Is there a way to have Ubuntu connect to the AP during boot, and always reconnect if it finds a signal from a specified AP? The box would have a static IP and only connecting to a specific AP using WEP.

After they press submit the drop down list is going back to the default value instead of what they selected.   Say I'm writing a Django app, and all the templates in the app require a certain variable. The "classic" way to deal with this, afaik, is to write a context processor and add it to TEMPLATE_CONTEXT_PROCESSORS in the settings.py. My question is, is this the right way to do it, considering that apps are supposed to be "independent" from the actual project using them? In other words, when deploying that app to a new project, is there any way to avoid the project having to explicitly mess around with its settings?

  I can change the irb prompt mode with irb --prompt prompt-mode I can see what null and simple does, but I can't tell the difference between null and xmp and the difference between default/classic/inf-ruby. Can someone explain to me what these other modes do? It seems pointless to have multiple modes doing the same thing.

• Changing file browser in Scientific Linux

  I use Scientific Linux Release 6.1 (Carbon) with GNOME 2.28.2. When I double-click on a folder on the Desktop it is opened in "File Browser". When I open a folder via "Places" on the Main Menu Bar, the folder is opened in "File Manager". I dislike "File Manager" and I don't understand why there are two different programs (file managers) running depending on how I open a folder. How can I get rid of "File Manager"?
