  This references this issue: Javascript SDK connect() function not working in chrome I asked for more information on how to resolve with localstorage and was asked to create a new topic. The answer was "A workaround is instead of using window.opener, push the oauth token into LocalStorage or SessionStorage and have the opener window listen to the Storage event." but i have no idea how to do that. It seems really simple, but i don't know where to start. I couldn't find an relevant examples. thanks for your help!

  I've recently found myself getting more and more interested in Erlang. I've purchased a book (Programming in Erlang) and started reading up on the basics. Reading books is time consuming so I am looking to shortcut this a bit and go back to the book later. What I lack is a good introductory tutorial. Kind of like, hands on, this is what you need to get started in Erlang, these are best practices, this is how you organize code and this is how you do a small project. I've googled this topic extensively and haven't had much luck. ;)

  I'm trying to debug a native shared library that my App uses through JNI. I can attach to a running app just fine with "gdbserver --attach pid" but i need to actually launch my app when i launch the gdbserver command. There's a million blog hits on this topic but none of them seem to be clear as to how you launch your app. They all say to just type "gdbserver 10.0.2.2:1234 ./MyProgram" but what exactly is "MyProgram". Is that MyProgram.apk? Is it MyProgram.so? Is it some other file that gets created when the app is installed? If so, what's its path?

  I am now reading Foundations of F# by Robert Pickering and parallelly the book in progress 'Real World Functional Programming' by Tomas Petricek. My question is, what is the added value I would get from buying and reading the following books: 1) Expert F# by Don Syme and others 2) F# for Scientists by John Harrop Are those books still up to date with the current CTP version. What are things to keep notice of with respect to the recent changes in the language? Will there be reprinted updated versions? Also I want to learn more about datamining techniques with F# as a tool for this. What are good books to read next on this topic?

• Can I animate a radial gradient in iPhone?

  I would like to animate a radial gradient to shrink and grow the inner radius, as if it were pulsing. Right now I'm rendering the gradient with CGGradient, but I'm not sure how to animate it. I've seen this topic http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1819311/can-you-animate-gradients-using-quartz-in-an-iphone Which explains how animate a linear gradient with CAGradientLayer, but it doesn't seem like this will draw a radial gradient. Is there an easy way to animate a CGGradient, or some way to create a radial gradient CAGradientLayer? Any thoughts are appreciated.

Although there's a page on the Maven site about this topic, there's only one example unit test, which does nothing useful. I also found this wiki page, but it hasn't been updated for more than 4 years, so I'm reluctant to invest any faith in it. I checked the book "The Definitive Guide to Maven", but it doesn't even mention the subject.   In C++ you can initialize a variable in an if statement, like so: if (CThing* pThing = GetThing()) { } Why would one consider this bad or good style? What are the benefits and disadvantages? Personally i like this style because it limits the scope of the pThing variable, so it can never be used accidentally when it is NULL. However, i don't like that you can't do this: if (CThing* pThing = GetThing() && pThing->IsReallySomeThing()) { } If there's a way to make the above work, please post. • Decoupling into DAL and BLL - my concerns.

  Hi, In many posts concerning this topic I come across very simple examples that do not answer my question. Let's say a have a document table and user table. In DAL written in ADO.NET i have a method to retries all documents for some criteria. Now I the UI I have a case where I need to show this list along with the names of the creator. Up to know I have it done with one method in DAL containig JOIN statement. However eveytime I have such a complex method i have to do custom mapping to some object that doesn't mark 1:1 to DB. Should it be put into another layer ? If so then I will have to resing from join query for iteration through results and querying each document author. . . which doen't make sense... (performance) what is the best approach for such scenarios ?

  After reading about the new Arabic URLs, and with more languages to come, how should URL validation be done for internationalized applications? Does the validation change at all and will existing solutions break? Is regex still a good approach? If so, what would that regex look like? If not, what's a good strategy? What are some good resources to read more on the topic? I ask this because it has the potential to cause a good many localized applications to have to be rewritten if they have to validate URLs at any point.

  While searching for Tutorials on generating random numbers in C I found This Topic When I try to use the rand() function with parameters, I always get the random number generated 0. When I try to use the rand() function with parameters, I always get the value 41. And whenever I try to use arc4random() and random() functions, I get a LNK2019 error. Here's what I'm doing: #include <stdlib.h> int main() { int x; x = rand(6); printf("%d", x); } This code always generate 41. Where am I going wrong?? P.S. : I'm running Windows XP SP3 and using VS2010 Command Prompt as compiler. P.P.S. : Took me 15 minutes to learn how to format properly.

  Hello, I'm doing a university project, that must gather and combine data on a user provided topic. The problem I've encountered is that Google search results for many terms are polluted with low quality autogenerated pages and if I use them, I can end up with wrong facts. How is it possible to estimate the quality/trustworthiness of a page? You may think "nah, Google engineers are working on the problem for 10 years and he's asking for a solution", but if you think about it, SE must provide up-to-date content and if it marks a good page as a bad one, users will be dissatisfied. I don't have such limitations, so if the algorithm accidentally marks as bad some good pages, that wouldn't be a problem.

IM clients can save conversation history automatically Integrated search Search not only through help files but rather make UI elements searchable. Vista made a good step toward such GUI. Scout addin Microsoft Office was a really great idea. Context oriented UI (Ribbon bar in MS Office 2007) Do you implement something like listed techniques in your software? Edit: As Ryan P mentioned, one of the best way to create usable app is to put yourself in user's place. I totally agree with it, but what I want to see in this topic is specific techniques (like those I mentioned above) rather than general recommendations.

• JDBC ResultSet.getString Before/After Start/End of ResultSet Exception

  I have done a lot of searching about this topic through Google but I have yet to find someone using getString() in the way that I am using it so I have not been able to fix this issue in the normal ways that are suggested. What I am trying to do is to obtain all of the information from the database and then use it to populate a table model within the program. I do so by obtaining the data with getString and place it into a String[] object: try { while (rSet.next()) { String row[] = {rSet.getString("DonorName"),rSet.getString("DonorCharity"),((String)rSet.getString("DonationAmount"))}; model.addRow(row); } } However I am always getting a dialog error message stating those error messages in the title: Exception: Before start of result set Exception: After end of result set The data is still added and everything works correctly but it is just annoying to have to dismiss those message windows. Does anyone have some suggestions?

• Would it be faster to use CMS for building the first site in ASP.NET?

Assuming that a developer has some practical background with HTML/JavaScript/PHP on one side and some .NET/C#/WPF experience on the other side. No previous hands on experience with ASP.NET - only theory and some read books on the topic. The task is to build ASP.NET web site with User Managment functionality (user authentication, user account, user buying history, user points and so on) and E-commerce functionality with shopping cart, checkout and all needed for this. Is it worth, i.e. will it be faster, more reliable and secure in the result to use a ASP.NET CMS system (for example Sitefinity from Telerik as declared developer friendly) to build such first site? In what case the learning curve will be more steep and it will take more time to achieve similar results? Notes to take into consideration: 1) Price of the CMS matters not very much 2) E-commerce module should be written from scratch in any case (and integrated in case of using CMS) due to very specific requirements

  I've seen contradictory answers on the internet with regard to whether C++/CLI is a superset of C++ or not. The accepted answer on this question claims that "technically no", but doesn't provide an examples of non-C++/CLI code that conforms to ISO C++. Another answer on that question cites a book that says the opposite. So, can you please provide accurate answers with example code that fails on C++/CLI or cite a trusted source (MSDN for example) on this matter?   I'm in the process of choosing a framework for my flex development, and one of the questions that was asked about a framework was "is this a framework or a micro-architecture"? Can someone clarify what's the difference? What exactly is a framework, and when can we start calling what we have a framework? I work with FlexBuilder3 (now called FlashBuilder4) and have a lot of standard things that I do for almost all projects, and components that I created for easy re-use. Some are very very small, but the benefit of a 1-liner has been immense for me instead of repeating the code over and over. So in the framework/micro-architecture scheme, can I say that these are my internal in-house framework or are they part of a micro-architecture? Trying to understand this topic better.

I'd like to handle escaping so that "%" => "\%" and "\*" => "*" I know i could replace \* with something else prior to replacing * and then swap it back, but i'd prefer not to and instead only convert * using a pattern that selects it when not proceeded by \.
