  • PHP: Trying to come up with a "prev" and "next" link

    - by fwaokda
    I'm displaying 10 records per page. The variables I have currently that I'm working with are.. $total = total number of records $page = whats the current page I'm displaying I placed this at the top of my page... if ( $_GET['page'] == '' ) { $page = 1; } //if no page is specified set it to `1` else { $page = ($_GET['page']); } // if page is specified set it Here are my two links... if ( $page != 1 ) { echo '<div style="float:left" ><a href="index.php?page='. ( $page - 1 ) .'" rev="prev" >Prev</a></div>'; } if ( !( ( $total / ( 10 * $page ) ) < $page ) ) { echo '<div style="float:right" ><a href="index.php?page='. ( $page + 1 ) .'" rev="next" >Next</a></div>'; } Now I guess (unless I'm not thinking of something) that I can display the "Prev" link every time except when the page is '1'. How can make it where the "Next" link doesn't show on the last page though?

  • Print all ways to sum n integers so that they total a given sum.

    - by noghead
    Im trying to come up with an algorithm that will print out all possible ways to sum N integers so that they total a given value. Example. Print all ways to sum 4 integers so that they sum up to be 5. Result should be something like: 5 0 0 0 4 1 0 0 3 2 0 0 3 1 1 0 2 3 0 0 2 2 1 0 2 1 2 0 2 1 1 1 1 4 0 0 1 3 1 0 1 2 2 0 1 2 1 1 1 1 3 0 1 1 2 1 1 1 1 2

  • How long would this have to go on for...

    - by Pieman
    I have the Pi formulae -Well one of them... 1 - 1/3 + 1/5 - 1/7 etc. How long would it take to get to like 1000 S.F correct? -Well, not how long, how big would the denominator be? -I have it updating 4 times in one refresh: http://zombiewrath.com/pi.php So the section above would be done in one refresh, then 7 to 13 in another etc. Answer this maths question please :) Also how can I get the 10,002 length variable onto 'seperate lines'? -I want it to fill 100% screen width -no scrolling needed (well downwards only)

  • Calculating percent "x/y * 100" always results in 0?

    - by Patrick Beninga
    In my assignment i have to make a simple version of Craps, for some reason the percentage assignments always produce 0 even when both variables are non 0, here is the code. import java.util.Random; Header, note the variables public class Craps { private int die1, die2,myRoll ,myBet,point,myWins,myLosses; private double winPercent,lossPercent; private Random r = new Random(); Just rolls two dies and produces their some. public int roll(){ die1 = r.nextInt(6)+1; die2 = r.nextInt(6)+1; return(die1 + die2); } The Play method, this just loops through the game. public void play(){ myRoll = roll(); point = 0; if(myRoll == 2 ||myRoll == 3 || myRoll == 12){ System.out.println("You lose!"); myLosses++; }else if(myRoll == 7 || myRoll == 11){ System.out.println("You win!"); myWins++; }else{ point = myRoll; do { myRoll = roll(); }while(myRoll != 7 && myRoll != point); if(myRoll == point){ System.out.println("You win!"); myWins++; }else{ System.out.println("You lose!"); myLosses++; } } } This is where the bug is, this is the tester method. public void tester(int howMany){ int i = 0; while(i < howMany){ play(); i++; } bug is right here in these assignments statements winPercent = myWins/i * 100; lossPercent = myLosses/i* 100; System.out.println("program ran "+i+" times "+winPercent+"% wins "+ lossPercent+"% losses with "+myWins+" wins and "+myLosses+" losses"); } }

  • Why do we need to estimate the true position in Kalman filters?

    - by Kalla
    I am following a probably well-known tutorial about Kalman filter here From these lines of code: figure; plot(t,pos, t,posmeas, t,poshat); grid; xlabel('Time (sec)'); ylabel('Position (feet)'); title('Figure 1 - Vehicle Position (True, Measured, and Estimated)') I understand that x is the true position, y is measured position, xhat is estimated position. Then, if we can compute x (this code: x = a * x + b * u + ProcessNoise;), why do we need to estimated x anymore?

  • Scale 2D coordinates and keep their relative euclidean distances intact?

    - by eiaxlid
    I have a set of points like: pointA(3302.34,9392.32), pointB(34322.32,11102.03), etc. I need to scale these so each x- and y-coordinate is in the range (0.0 - 1.0). I tried doing this by first finding the largest x value in the data set (maximum_x_value), and the largest y value in the set (minimum_y_value). I then did the following: pointA.x = (pointA.x - minimum_x_value) / (maximum_x_value - minimum_x_value) pointA.y = (pointA.y - minimum_y_value) / (maximum_y_value - minimum_y_value) This changes the relative distances(?), and therefore makes the data useless for my purposes. Is there a way to scale these coordinates while keeping their relative distances the intact?

  • How to map a long integer number to a N-dimensional vector of smaller integers (and fast inverse)?

    - by psihodelia
    Given a N-dimensional vector of small integers is there any simple way to map it with one-to-one correspondence to a large integer number? Say, we have N=3 vector space. Can we represent a vector X=[(int32)x1,(int32)x2,(int32)x3] using an integer (int48)y? The obvious answer is "Yes, we can". But the question is: "What is the fastest way to do this and its inverse operation?"

  • How do I improve this linear regression function?

    - by user558383
    I have the following PHP function that I'm using to draw a trend line. However, it sometimes plots the line below all the points in the scatter graph. Is there an error in my function or is there a better way to do it. I think it might be something to do with that with the line it produces, it treats all the residuals (the distances from the scatter points to the line) as positive regardless of them being above or below the line. function linear_regression($x, $y) { $n = count($x); $x_sum = array_sum($x); $y_sum = array_sum($y); $xx_sum = 0; $xy_sum = 0; for($i = 0; $i < $n; $i++) { $xy_sum+=($x[$i]*$y[$i]); $xx_sum+=($x[$i]*$x[$i]); } $m = (($n * $xy_sum) - ($x_sum * $y_sum)) / (($n * $xx_sum) - ($x_sum * $x_sum)); $b = ($y_sum - ($m * $x_sum)) / $n; return array("m"=>$m, "b"=>$b); }

  • Assigning XY positions to points based on a "weight" between them

    - by sanity
    I have a bunch of points in a graph, and for every pair of these points I have "weight" value indicating what their proximity should be, between -1 and 1. I want to choose XY coordinates for these points such that those that have a proximity of 1 are in the same position, and those with a proximity of -1 are distant from each-other. All points must reside within a bounded area. What algorithms should I investigate to achieve this?

  • XP Mode (Windows Virtual PC for Windows 7) no longer requires hardware virtualisation - hurrah !

    - by Liam Westley
    Windows Virtual PC (aka XP Mode) When XP Mode was released, it insisted on hardware virtualisation being present on your CPU and enabled in the BIOS.  Given that Windows Virtual PC was based on an improved Virtual PC 2007, which provided hardware virtualisation as a user selectable option, I did wonder why on earth Microsoft thought this was a good idea.  Not only do many people not have a CPU with hardware virtualisation support, some manufacturers don't provide a BIOS option to enable this setting, especially on laptops - yes Sony, Toshiba and Acer, I'm looking at you. Dumb and dumber This issue became a double whammy; not only was Microsoft a bit dumb on not supporting Windows Virtual PC without hardware virtualisation, your hardware manufacturer was also dumb in not supporting the option in the BIOS. Microsoft update to Windows Virtual PC Belatedly, Microsoft has seen the problem with this hardware virtualisation requirement and has now released a new version of Windows Virtual PC that works without hardware virtualisation.  This is really good news for those with older (or limited) CPUs and rubbish BIOS firmware. You can details of how to download the new versions of XP Mode here, http://blogs.msdn.com/virtual_pc_guy/archive/2010/03/18/windows-virtual-pc-no-hardware-virtualization-update-now-available-for-download.aspx And there is also an explanation of why the hardware virtualisation requirement was in place for previous releases, http://blogs.msdn.com/virtual_pc_guy/archive/2010/03/18/windows-virtual-pc-now-without-the-need-for-hardware-virtualization.aspx

  • Will BIOS boot mode Ubuntu install be able to boot when firmware "Fast Boot" is "Ultra Fast"?

    - by Pro Backup
    I have an AsRock mainboard with UEFI BIOS P1.50 02/14/2014. The firmware "Fast Boot" option is set to "Fast", Boot Option #1 is set to "AHCI P4: OCZ-VERT...": this is BIOS not UEFI boot. This boot disk has an MBR partitioning scheme (# parted -l | grep Partition\ Table:). Therefore Ubuntu 14.04 is installed in BIOS/CMS (Grub-PC) mode. The Ubuntu boot process ends in a text console (no GUI). There is no external graphics card in use. The stock Ubuntu kernel is replaced with Ubuntu supplied mainline 3.16.0-031600rc6-generic. dmesg outputs lines containing BIOS, like: SMBIOS 2.7 present Calgary: detecting Calgary via BIOS EBDA area Calgary: Unable to locate Rio Grande table in EBDA - bailing! [Firmware Bug]: ACPI: BIOS _OSI(Linux) query ignored BIOS EDD facility v0.16 2004-Jun-25, 0 devices found The ASRock BIOS it selves display this help text for "Ultra Fast - Fast Boot": Ultra Fast mode is only supported by Windows 8 and the VBIOS must support UEFI GOP if you are using an external graphics card. Please notice that Ultra Fast mode will boot so fast that the only way to enter this UEFI Setup Utility is to Clear CMOS or run the Restart to UEFI utility in Windows. Assumptions: I suspect after changing UEFI setting "Fast Boot" to "Ultra Fast" that the machine will no longer boot into Ubuntu's console. I expect when first exchanging "Grub-pc" with "Grub-efi", that the machine will still be able to boot to a grub menu (thus allowing to change the "Fast Boot" setting back to "Fast" without clearing CMOS). Are these two "Fast Boot" assumptions correct, and/or, may I expect Ubuntu 14.04 running mainline kernel 3.16rc6 and Grub-efi to still boot to console after enabling UEFI Ultra Fast Boot?

  • Should I use mod_wsgi embedded mode if I have full control of Apache?

    - by mgibsonbr
    I'm managing a bunch of sites and applications in a shared hosting, using Django via mod_wsgi. I had planned to use daemon mode from the beginning (to avoid restart problems), but ended up purchasing a plan that allows me to run a dedicated Apache instance. I kept using daemon mode for convenience, but I'm afraid it's consuming more server resources than it should (I have different projects for each site, each with its own process and process group), so I'm considering switching to embedded mode. Would that be a sensible thing to do? I'd still be able to restart Apache anytime I need to, and I wouldn't need so many child processes and sockets (so I hope the resource usage would decrease). But I'm unsure whether or not doing so would make it more difficult to manage those sites (if I need to update one, I have to restart all) or maybe the applications won't be properly isolated from one another. Are these problems really significant (or only a minor nuisance), are there other drawbacks I coudn't foresee? I'm looking for advice in any aspect of this setup - mainainability, performance, security etc. Tips for improving the current setup are also welcome (I know how to correctly configure a basic mod_wsgi setup, but I'm clueless about sensible values for threads, processes etc).

  • How to write code that communicates with an accelerator in the real address space (real mode)?

    - by ysap
    This is a preliminary question for the issue, where I was asked to program a host-accelerator program on an embedded system we are building. The system is comprised of (among the standard peripherals) an ARM core and an accelerator processor. Both processors access the system bus via their bus interfaces, and share the same 32-bit global physical memory space. Both share access to the system's DRAM through the system bus. (The computer concept is similar to Beagleboard/raspberry Pie, but with a specialized accelerator added) The accelerator has its own internal memory (SRAM) which is exposed to the system and occupies a portion of the global address space (as opposed to how a graphics card would talk to teh CPU via a "small" aperture in the system memory space). On the ARM core (the host) we plan on running Ubuntu 12.04. The mode of operation of communicating between the processors should be that the host issues memory transactions on the system bus that are targeted at the accelerator internal memory. As far as my understanding goes, if I write a program for the host that simply writes to the physical address of the accelerator, most chances are that the program will crash due to a segmentation violation. So, I assume that I need some way of communicating with the device in real mode. What is the easiest way to achieve this mode of operation?

  • Is text-only mode a saving or a problem for battery savings?

    - by Robottinosino
    A friend is flying to the US from Europe and asked me a very thought-provoking question, which I am not remotely able to answer with substance so I am asking it here: How to absolutely maximise battery life on an Ubuntu (laptop) install? do not rush to mark this as duplicate, there is an important point here: does -GNOME- help or worsen battery life? Let me provide some context: The only task he needs to perform is: edit text files in Vim. He is unsure whether running GNOME will drain his battery life more or actually save him some battery life given the smarts of GNOME's power management features like "switch this peripheral to -power save- after X minutes..." (GNOME might just be a configuration front-end for settings that are governed by command-line utils for all I know?) He could perfectly well boot the system in text-only mode and use the automatic 6 virtual consoles for his needs, if that's a saving at all over running tmux (I think so because of all the smart buffering/history/etc the latter does by default?) Exactly how would you advise him to run his laptop during his flight? What I told him already: power off WiFi in the BIOS, not from the "GUI" power off Bluetooth switch off the courtesy light and use low monitor brightness play music off of his phone, not mp3blaster do not use his tiny portable mouse (and do not attach any other USB gimmicks like "screen light", etc) stop development services he will not be using, especially apache2, tomcat, dovecot, postgresql, etc. Potentially: - switch off his cron jobs? (he does an rsync + tar + 7za of his "work in progress" every so often) I think the above is standard stuff one could get off StackExchange, and with many duplicates... the core of this question is, I think: __ will running Ubuntu in text-only mode be a saving in terms of battery life or a problem? why? (provide some technical arguments) __ I think it will be a saving but I am also scared about "other things" detecting and enabling advanced chipset power management features only when some services are started.. and fear these "services" may be off in text-only mode?

  • org-sort multi: date/time (?d ?t) | priority (?p) | title (?a)

    - by lawlist
    Is anyone aware of an org-sort function / modification that can refile / organize a group of TODO so that it sorts them by three (3) criteria: first sort by due date, second sort by priority, and third sort by by title of the task? EDIT: I believe that org-sort by deadline (?d) has a bug that cannot properly handle undated tasks. I am working on a workaround (i.e., moving the undated todo to a different heading before the deadline (?d) sort occurs), but perhaps the best thing to do would be to try and fix the original sorting function. Development of the workaround can be found in this thread (i.e., moving the undated tasks to a different heading in one fell swoop): How to automate org-refile for multiple todo EDIT: Apparently, the following code (ancient history) that I found on the internet was eventually modified and included as a part of org-sort-entries. Unfortunately, undated todo are not properly sorted when sorting by deadline -- i.e., they are mixed in with the dated todo. ;; multiple sort (defun org-sort-multi (&rest sort-types) "Multiple sorts on a certain level of an outline tree, or plain list items. SORT-TYPES is a list where each entry is either a character or a cons pair (BOOL . CHAR), where BOOL is whether or not to sort case-sensitively, and CHAR is one of the characters defined in `org-sort-entries-or-items'. Entries are applied in back to front order. Example: To sort first by TODO status, then by priority, then by date, then alphabetically (case-sensitive) use the following call: (org-sort-multi '(?d ?p ?t (t . ?a)))" (interactive) (dolist (x (nreverse sort-types)) (when (char-valid-p x) (setq x (cons nil x))) (condition-case nil (org-sort-entries (car x) (cdr x)) (error nil)))) ;; sort current level (defun lawlist-sort (&rest sort-types) "Sort the current org level. SORT-TYPES is a list where each entry is either a character or a cons pair (BOOL . CHAR), where BOOL is whether or not to sort case-sensitively, and CHAR is one of the characters defined in `org-sort-entries-or-items'. Entries are applied in back to front order. Defaults to \"?o ?p\" which is sorted by TODO status, then by priority" (interactive) (when (equal mode-name "Org") (let ((sort-types (or sort-types (if (or (org-entry-get nil "TODO") (org-entry-get nil "PRIORITY")) '(?d ?t ?p) ;; date, time, priority '((nil . ?a)))))) (save-excursion (outline-up-heading 1) (let ((start (point)) end) (while (and (not (bobp)) (not (eobp)) (<= (point) start)) (condition-case nil (outline-forward-same-level 1) (error (outline-up-heading 1)))) (unless (> (point) start) (goto-char (point-max))) (setq end (point)) (goto-char start) (apply 'org-sort-multi sort-types) (goto-char end) (when (eobp) (forward-line -1)) (when (looking-at "^\\s-*$") ;; (delete-line) ) (goto-char start) ;; (dotimes (x ) (org-cycle)) ))))) EDIT: Here is a more modern version of multi-sort, which is likely based upon further development of the above-code: (defun org-sort-all () (interactive) (save-excursion (goto-char (point-min)) (while (re-search-forward "^\* " nil t) (goto-char (match-beginning 0)) (condition-case err (progn (org-sort-entries t ?a) (org-sort-entries t ?p) (org-sort-entries t ?o) (forward-line)) (error nil))) (goto-char (point-min)) (while (re-search-forward "\* PROJECT " nil t) (goto-char (line-beginning-position)) (ignore-errors (org-sort-entries t ?a) (org-sort-entries t ?p) (org-sort-entries t ?o)) (forward-line)))) EDIT: The best option will be to fix sorting of deadlines (?d) so that undated todo are moved to the bottom of the outline, instead of mixed in with the dated todo. Here is an excerpt from the current org.el included within Emacs Trunk (as of July 1, 2013): (defun org-sort (with-case) "Call `org-sort-entries', `org-table-sort-lines' or `org-sort-list'. Optional argument WITH-CASE means sort case-sensitively." When children are sorted, the cursor is in the parent line when this hook gets called. When a region or a plain list is sorted, the cursor will be in the first entry of the sorted region/list.") The command prompts for the sorting type unless it has been given to the function through the SORTING-TYPE argument, which needs to be a character, \(?n ?N ?a ?A ?t ?T ?s ?S ?d ?D ?p ?P ?o ?O ?r ?R ?f ?F). Here is the precise meaning of each character: n Numerically, by converting the beginning of the entry/item to a number. a Alphabetically, ignoring the TODO keyword and the priority, if any. o By order of TODO keywords. t By date/time, either the first active time stamp in the entry, or, if none exist, by the first inactive one. s By the scheduled date/time. d By deadline date/time. c By creation time, which is assumed to be the first inactive time stamp at the beginning of a line. p By priority according to the cookie. r By the value of a property. Capital letters will reverse the sort order. If the SORTING-TYPE is ?f or ?F, then GETKEY-FUNC specifies a function to be called with point at the beginning of the record. It must return either a string or a number that should serve as the sorting key for that record. Comparing entries ignores case by default.
