    I am trying to create a unattended DVD installation of Windows 8, but I can't seem to find a solution do this. What I'm looking for are to have the same settings on the Network and Sharing Center, to have the Turn on network discovery "on" for both the private and guest/public within the Control Panel. For private and guest/public, I need to: Turn on network discovery Turn on printer and file sharing Turn off public folder sharing Turn on password protected sharing Use user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers I've been searching for days and have not found a solution yet.

  • Connect to server in VMWare player while host is not connected to a network

    Hello, I have a linux server VM on my host machine using VMWare player and if I'm on a network, I can connect to the web server on the VM via a web browser. However, I tried to do the same while I was disconnected from a network and I couldn't. The networking is set to Host-only and I did use dhclient/ifconfig to make sure that yes, I did have an IP address assigned to the VM. While I can work around this, the purpose of the VM is to allow us to demo our app from any machine and that machine may not be connected to a network. Thanks.

  • Connecting via url to a server that is on the same network as me

    Good day, I'm having problems with the ftp server I've just set up. I've already managed to configure my modem and wireless router to open up port 21 and setup ftp in my server. But It seems that when I try to connect to it when I'm in the same network as the server via URL, (ftp://mydomain.com) it redirects me to the modem's web interface. But then when I try to connect to it outside the network using a different internet connection. It succeeds. It also succeeds when I'm in the same network and I go to ftp://192.168.., the server's local IP. Am I supposed to adjust something in the modem or router? Or is this a different problem altogether? BTW I'm using Windows Server 2008 r2 as my server's OS and using IIS for ftp.

The netsh wlan show hostednetwork command gives the output Hosted network settings ----------------------- Mode : Allowed SSID name : "rambo" Max number of clients : 100 Authentication : WPA2-Personal Cipher : CCMP Hosted network status --------------------- Status : Started BSSID : xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx Radio type : 802.11n Channel : 11 Number of clients : 1 xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx Authenticated But I have forgot the password for this connection and after some googling I found the command netsh wlan refresh hostednetwork YourNewNetworkPassword. But on executing this command it get the error C:\Users\user>netsh wlan refresh hostednetwork rambo123 Invalid value "rambo123" for command option "data". Usage: refresh hostednetwork [data=]key I have no idea what is wrong with this command.

  • Correct usage of Windows Server on network?

    I have two routers, one with dhcp turned on and the other with it off. this is a functioning home network. Now, I am trying to integrate into it a windows server. Should the windows server be doing the dhcp and dns work? And if so, what will this mean for the existing network? Will I need to reconfigure this? I am currently installing server 2003 onto my server machine. It is connected up to the network on the main router with dhcp. Any words of advice?

This is a question about the definition of a network from the OSI / TCP/IP model point of view: From one point of view, those are two L2 networks connected with a bridge. From another point of view, this is one L3 network, that can have a common L3 address space (like 10.1.1.0). PS If this question is too dumb, please move it to Superuser.

  • Network Service Account not Inherited in ACL

    I have a problem with files that are being moved into a folder that is set to replace permissions on child objects for the Network Service account. The process is that a media file is uploaded to a website, and is encoded by a piece of software. This moves the file to a folder but for some reason the files that get moved there don't inherit the Network Service account in security permissions. If I manually move a file into the folder the permission is inherited. I have used the effective permissions tool to check the Network Service account security permissions on the parent folder but this shows that there is nothing overriding it - the account has full permissions. Can try and supply more info if required, but any answers grealty appreciated!

  • Vista Home Premium won't connect to network.

    I deinstalled some software (e.g. some Toolbars for IE and Norton security suite, because the free trial period of 60 days is run out and so i want to switch to microsofts free security essentials). But now i cannot connect to the network again: Neither over LAN nor over WiFi. Neither with standard DHCP ON (sets a 169.254.x.y address) nor with fixed IP-Address. No error during changing the settings. Ping to the Gateway e.g. doesn't work and gives "generall failure". The DHCP-Client sets no IP-Address. There is allways only 'local access' on every network-connection. i ran out of ideas, please help. UPDATE per 2011-03-11: I followed each and every hint but nothing changed. I did a research on microsofts homepage through all the sites belonging to network but nothing helped. What can i do next?

    I had a server in a hosting company and I took it home. I need to connect him to a local network (not wifi) and access to the server from another computer in the network via browser, like I did it when it was in the hosting company. I don't have any knowledge in linux, I just know how to type in the command line :) I thinks all the IP configuration of the server is one big mess, because it passed from more then one hosting company to another... I tried a lot of tutorials that I found in the web, but nothing works - mainly because I don't know how to check if I did something wrong. I just need to know how to connect to local network ( D-Link router) and then access the server from another computer browser. thanks update: the server os is: CentOS release 4.8 (Final)

  • Trouble Extending Network with Apple Airport Extreme (PC won't connect with Ethernet)

    So I have an Apple Airport Extreme base station that I use to create a wifi network at my house. But on a separate story from this station i have a PC (running Windows 7) that does not have a wireless card. Luckily, I have another Airport Extreme Base Station, so I figured I'd have my second station "extend" the existing network. I asked Apple if this was possible, which it was, and walked through the setup wizard to extend the network. Then I ran an ethernet cable from the Station to my PC. However the PC refuses to connect to the Internet. It says it can access the network, "Unidentified Network (Limited Connectivity)", but that's it. It tells me that my computer does not have an IP address. I tried running the cable to another computer (my Apple MacBook Pro) and got a similar error. Any thoughts?

    Well im debugging a windows CE application from visual studio in the Windows Device Emulator, now to setup the network i go to File - Configure - Network, i enable a network card and press OK, then i get this message: "The required Virtual Machine Network Driver could not be found. Make sure that Virtual PC 2007 is installed. You can install Virtual PC 2007 from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=46859" Im running windows 7 and got a built-in Virtual pc and i would rather not have 2 installed at the same time is there any way to get this network driver without installing virtual PC 2007?

  • WD MBWE II (White Strip Light) 2TB - unable to access data

    I have a WD MBWE II (White Strip Light) 2TB - (WD20000H2NC-00) Was working fine until a few days ago. I guess there was a power failure and after that I am unable to access the 'Public' or the 'Download' folder anymore. I have been searching for answers everywhere but came up empty handed. Web GUI still works, SSH works. I hooked up both the drives on my PC and UFS Explorer sees the drive. But so far I am unable to retrieve any of my data. I do not remember what RAID setting I used when I first got the drive. I can see from GUI that it is set as "Stripe". The drive contains 10 years of family pictures which I really do not want to loose. Sadly and stupidly, I didn't even keep a backup of this drive. Can somebody please help or point me in the right direction. Thank you in advance for your help. Disk Utility on Ubuntu reports 1405 bad sectors on one drive. How can I retrieve my data? Please help. By the looks of these logs the ypbind service is starting up at 12:57:12 but the network interface isn't coming up till 12:57:15. My guess is that this is causing ypbind to time out when trying to connect. As a knock-on effect the NIS failure is causing problems with NFS which is no longer able to map UIDs properly. This problem doesn't seem to be fixed by actually starting ypbind etc. so I've had to set all my NFS shares to noauto. I have tried manually adding NETWORKDELAY and NETWORKWAIT in /etc/sysconfig/network and also running systemctl enable NetworkManager-wait-online.service as I've seen suggested in some places, but neither of these have had any effect. It is relatively easy to fix manually by restarting ypbind & mounting NFS shares after the network has started up, but it's less than ideal to have to do this every time the server has been rebooted. Does anyone know of an easy (and preferably hack-free) way of delaying the ypbind startup till after the network interface is fully ready?

    I have a few clients on my network that can connect to my work VPN (Windows PPTP) when they are not on my home network. On my home network (Cable Modem with Time Capsule providing Wifi), it fails very early -- looks like it can't even establish a connection. Logs just say that it failed -- even verbose logs don't have much: I redacted the host and IP from this log, but I can ping it. The only clue I have seen in other forums is to set the NAT default host on the Time Capsule -- I set this to the IP that my mac got over DHCP. I made sure that my Mac gets a different range of IP addresses that it would get if it connected to the VPN (192.168.1.x vs. 10.0.0.x). Not using any VPN client -- just Network System Preferences. It has worked in the past -- but it was a while ago, so I can't pinpoint a change. My sysadmin doesn't even see incoming connections to the VPN (nothing logged about me when I connect). Looking for any diagnostic advice at all

    I had a Fedora box running using my static IP 69.169.136.6, etc, all configured according to what the ISP required. Just recently the hard drive failed (and I should have been keeping better backups) - while it is being recovered I would like to put up a webpage on my Archlinux PC explaining the problem - I presently do not have sufficient access to change the DNS record assigned to the domain. When I change my ip address while my system is running to 69.169.136.6, ifconfig reports the new ip address, but http://whatismyip.com/ does not. When I change it and reboot, I can't ping - the message I recieve is "connect: Network is unreachable" (when given one of google.com 's IP addresses - hostnames give me ping: unknown host xxx). Until I have access to the DNS system, what can I do to make this work? Edit: With new IP address, same problem, IP is now 69.169.136.29.     Building a multi player asteroids game where ships compete with each other. Using UDP. Wanted to minimize traffic sent to server. Which would you do: Send periodic keyboard state samples every from client every to match server physics update rate e.g. 50 times per second. Highly resilient to packet loss and other reliabilty problems. Out of date packets disacarded by server. Generates a lot of unnuecessary traffic. Only send keyboard state when it changes (key up, key down). Radically less traffic sent from client to server. However, UDP can lose packets without you being informed. So the latter method could result in the vital packet never being resent unless I detect and resend this in a timely manner.

  • Android: Strange out of memory issue

    I am not sure where to start to explain this one. I have a list view with a couple image buttons on each row. When you click the list row, it launches a new activity. If you review some of my other posts, I have had to build my own tabs because of an issue w/ the camera layout. The activity that gets launched for result is a map. If I click on my button to launch the image preview (load an image off the sd card) the application returns from the activity back to the listview activity to the result handler to relaunch my new activity which is nothing more than an image widget. So here is the issue, the image preview on the list view is being done w/ the cursor & listadapter. This makes it pretty simple, but I am not sure how I can put a resized (i.e. smaller bit size not pixel) image as the src for the imgbutton on the fly. So I just resized the image that came off the phone camera. The issue is that I get an out of memory error when it tries to go back and re-launch the 2nd activity. ** My question : is there a way I can build the list adapter easily row by row, where I can resize on the fly (bit wise)? - this would be preferable as I also need to make some changes to the properties of the widgets/elements in each row as I am unable to select a row w/ touch screen b/c of focus issue. (I can use roller ball). ** I know I can do an out of band resize and save of my image, but that is not really what I want to do, but some sample code for that would be nice if that is your suggestion. As soon as I disabled the image on the listview it worked fine again.   • Problems with wireless file copy - hangs during copy

    I have this problem on my home network where when I try to copy files via wireless connection, at some point the copy fails and the machine doing the copy loses connection to the network. I'm pretty much lost as to figuring out the source for the problem... Some more details that might help: It's not OS related. I have Windows 7 machines and Leopard machines and this occurs on both I'm using a 3com OfficeConnect router Wired transfer works fine Other programs that require heavy wireless traffic work just fine:streaming large HD movies, Xbox Live! ... I'm lost as to how to even begin trying to diagnose the problem so any tips are welcome...

  • Missing NIC and USB devices

    Coming into work today, I've found we have a fwe different computers (different companies/networks/OS versions - all windows based) that are all having the same issue. 1) Network NIC is not able to be viewed from network connections. If you refresh, its saying the service is not started. Services state the service is started and running. 2) USB devices are not recognized when plugged in, scan for hardware changes, etc. We have managed AV, that is kept up to date, and a managed patch policy that has all these machines at the most recent patch. I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced these same symptoms, and what they have done to resolve them.

  • Opening the Internet Settings Dialog and using Windows Default Network Settings via Code

    Ran into a question from a client the other day that asked how to deal with Internet Connection settings for running  HTTP requests. In this case this is an old FoxPro app and it's using WinInet to handle the actual HTTP connection. Another client asked a similar question about using the IE Web Browser control and configuring connection properties. Regardless of platform or tools used to do HTTP connections, you can probably configure custom connection and proxy settings in your application to configure http connection settings manually. However, this is a repetitive process for each application requires you to track system information in your application which is undesirable. Often it's much easier to rely on the system wide proxy settings that Windows provides via the Internet Settings dialog. The dialog is a Control Panel applet (inetcpl.cpl) and is the same dialog that you see when you pop up Internet Explorer's Options dialog: This dialog controls the Windows connection properties that determine how the Windows HTTP stack connects to the Internet and how Proxy's are used if configured. Depending on how the HTTP client is configured - it can typically inherit and use these global settings. Loading the Settings Dialog Programmatically The settings dialog is a Control Panel applet with the name of: inetcpl.cpl and you can use any Shell execution mechanism (Run dialog, ShellExecute API, Process.Start() in .NET etc.) to invoke the dialog. Changes made there are immediately reflected in any applications that use the default connection settings. In .NET you can simply do this to bring up the Internet Settings dialog with the Connection tab enabled: Process.Start("inetcpl.cpl",",4"); In FoxPro you can simply use the RUN command to execute inetcpl.cpl: lcCmd = "inetcpl.cpl ,4" RUN &lcCmd Using the Default Connection/Proxy Settings When using WinInet you specify the Http connect type in the call to InternetOpen() like this (FoxPro code here): hInetConnection=; InternetOpen(THIS.cUserAgent,0,; THIS.chttpproxyname,THIS.chttpproxybypass,0) The second parameter of 0 specifies that the default system proxy settings should be used and it uses the settings from the Internet Settings Connections tab. Other connection options for HTTP connections include 1 - direct (no proxies and ignore system settings), 3 - explicit Proxy specification. In most situations a connection mode setting of 0 should work. In .NET HTTP connections by default are direct connections and so you need to explicitly specify a default proxy or proxy configuration to use. The easiest way to do this is on the application level in the config file: <configuration> <system.net> <defaultProxy> <proxy bypassonlocal="False" autoDetect="True" usesystemdefault="True" /> </defaultProxy> </system.net> </configuration> You can do the same sort of thing in code specifying the proxy explicitly and using System.Net.WebProxy.GetDefaultProxy(). So when making HTTP calls to Web Services or using the HttpWebRequest class you can set the proxy with: StoreService.Proxy = WebProxy.GetDefaultProxy(); All of this is pretty easy to deal with and in my opinion is a way better choice to managing connection settings than having to track this stuff in your own application.   • Cant add network printer with system-config-printer package

    Hello im new here and I dont know if im doing it right but I hope yes. I have a printer conected to a windows 8 machine, also I had ubuntu 13.04 and it worked fine when I printed from linux to windows but when I upgraded to 13.10 my printer didnt worked, I removed it thinking that would fix it but when I tryed to add the printer again I couldnt, I reinstalled cups and the system-config-printer-gnome package but didnt worked.
