  • How do I reduce the height of a TableView when it is constructed in IB?

    - by erotsppa
I wanted to add a view to the bottom of my screen. The controller is a UITableViewController, how do I shrink the tableView and add a extra view at the bottom of the tableview? I've tried setting the frame of self.tableView in different places (viewDidLoad, viewWillAppear etc) but nothing happens. The tableView is created by IB and not programtically. I've tried added a footer to my table view but that's not what I want, because the footer actually scrolls up, I want a static non moving View at the bottom of the screen.

  • How to identify WHICH NSURLConnection did finish loading when there are multiple ones?

    - by RexOnRoids
Multiple NSURLConnections being started (in a single UIViewController) to gather different kinds of data. When they return (-connectionDidFinishLoading) I wanna do stuff with the data, depending on the type of data that has arrived. But one prob, HOW DO I KNOW WHICH NSURLConnection returned? I need to know so I can take action specific to the type of data that came. (Eg. display a twitter update if it was the twitter xml data)(Eg. display an image if it was a photo) How do people usually solve this?

  • How to customize the pop up menu in iPhone?

    - by Allen Dang
The application I'm creating needs a function like user selects some text, a pop up menu shows, and user clicks "search" menu to perform a search directly. Problem is the current pop up menu provided by UIMenuController doesn't support to be extended. So my thought is to subscribe "UIMenuControllerDidShowMenuNotification", get the frame of pop up menu, and display the "search" button right aside. But during the implementation, I met a strange problem, the notification seems never be sent, means after the menu shown, I still cannot be notified, following are the key section of code. - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(menuDidShow:) name:UIMenuControllerWillShowMenuNotification object:nil]; } - (void)viewDidUnload { // Release any retained subviews of the main view. // e.g. self.myOutlet = nil; [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] removeObserver:self name:UIMenuControllerDidShowMenuNotification object:nil]; self.textView = nil; self.searchBar = nil; } - (void)menuDidShow:(NSNotification *)notification { NSLog(@"menu did show!"); } The code is too simple to make mistake, can someone help me to understand what's going on? Or what did I miss?

  • iPhone Table View Cell Image: Working on simulator, not showing on real device

    - by Graeme
    Hi, I have a UITable View that displays an image in the left hand side of the table cell, and it works fine in the simulator. Only problem is, once I ran it on my device no images appear. At first 3 did, but then I "cleaned headers" and now none appear. Have checked that images are added to resource folder for build (which they are) and that capitals etc. match (which they do). Any ideas? Thanks. Code to display images: cell.imageView.layer.masksToBounds = YES; cell.imageView.layer.cornerRadius = 5.0; UIImage *image = [UIImage imageNamed:[[dog types] stringByTrimmingCharactersInSet:[NSCharacterSet whitespaceAndNewlineCharacterSet]]];; if ( image ) { cell.imageView.image = [image imageScaledToSize:CGSizeMake(50, 50)]; }

  • iPhone backup & restore does not restore our app's data on rare occasions

    - by Michael Waterfall
We have an iPhone app with several thousand users, and we've had one or two users saying that after a full backup & restore procedure within iTunes, the data for our app was lost. All the data (photos & SQLite DB) are stored in the documents area of the app. I've tested this thoroughly with our devices and it works absolutely fine. Can anyone think of a reason for this, or has anyone experienced this before?

  • Handling multiple UISwitch controls in a table view without using tag property

    - by Thaurin
I have a table view controller with multiple UISwitch controls in them. I set the delegate to the table view controller with the same action for all switches. I need to be able to determine what switch was changed, so I create an array of strings that contains the name of each switch. The indexes in the array will be put in the tag property of each UISwitch. However, I'm ready using the tag property for something else, namely to find the right control in the cell in cellForRowAtIndexPath with viewWithTag! (There are several things I need to set within each cell.) So, am I thinking along the right lines here? I feel I'm rather limited in how I find out exactly which UISwitch changed its value, so I can do something useful with it.

  • Downloading file with ASIHTTPRequest - iPhone app

    - by lostInTransit
Hi I am using the ASIHTTPRequest source code to download a file from a remote location. Surprisingly, the download happens but nothing happens after that. I have put in a log statement in the handleBytesAvailable method and can see the entire file worth of data is downloaded in parts and added to the fileDownloadOutputStream variable. But once all the bytes have been downloaded, nothing happens. The delegate methods are not called (neither fail, nor success). Can someone please tell me what is happening? Or what is the correct way to download a file from a remote server using ASIHTTPRequest? Thanks.

  • NSXMLParser Memory Allocation Efficiency for the iPhone

    - by Staros
Hello, I've recently been playing with code for an iPhone app to parse XML. Sticking to Cocoa, I decided to go with the NSXMLParser class. The app will be responsible for parsing 10,000+ "computers", all which contain 6 other strings of information. For my test, I've verified that the XML is around 900k-1MB in size. My data model is to keep each computer in an NSDictionary hashed by a unique identifier. Each computer is also represented by a NSDictionary with the information. So at the end of the day, I end up with a NSDictionary containing 10k other NSDictionaries. The problem I'm running into isn't about leaking memory or efficient data structure storage. When my parser is done, the total amount of allocated objects only does go up by about 1MB. The problem is that while the NSXMLParser is running, my object allocation is jumping up as much as 13MB. I could understand 2 (one for the object I'm creating and one for the raw NSData) plus a little room to work, but 13 seems a bit high. I can't imaging that NSXMLParser is that inefficient. Thoughts? Code... The code to start parsing... NSXMLParser *parser = [[NSXMLParser alloc] initWithData: data]; [parser setDelegate:dictParser]; [parser parse]; output = [[dictParser returnDictionary] retain]; [parser release]; [dictParser release]; And the parser's delegate code... -(void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser didStartElement:(NSString *)elementName namespaceURI:(NSString *)namespaceURI qualifiedName:(NSString *)qualifiedName attributes:(NSDictionary *)attributeDict { if(mutableString) { [mutableString release]; mutableString = nil; } mutableString = [[NSMutableString alloc] init]; } -(void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser foundCharacters:(NSString *)string { if(self.mutableString) { [self.mutableString appendString:string]; } } -(void)parser:(NSXMLParser *)parser didEndElement:(NSString *)elementName namespaceURI:(NSString *)namespaceURI qualifiedName:(NSString *)qName { if([elementName isEqualToString:@"size"]){ //The initial key, tells me how many computers returnDictionary = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] initWithCapacity:[mutableString intValue]]; } if([elementName isEqualToString:hashBy]){ //The unique identifier if(mutableDictionary){ [mutableDictionary release]; mutableDictionary = nil; } mutableDictionary = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] initWithCapacity:6]; [returnDictionary setObject:[NSDictionary dictionaryWithDictionary:mutableDictionary] forKey:[NSMutableString stringWithString:mutableString]]; } if([fields containsObject:elementName]){ //Any of the elements from a single computer that I am looking for [mutableDictionary setObject:mutableString forKey:elementName]; } } Everything initialized and released correctly. Again, I'm not getting errors or leaking. Just inefficient. Thanks for any thoughts!

  • Anti-aliasing not working when resizing a UIWebView

    - by nickcartwright
I'd like to add a Web View to my app at 60% scale (like seen in Safari in the browse other windows view): Notice how the content looks nice and Aliased! If I try and add the same Web view to my app: NSURL *url = [NSURL URLWithString:@"http://www.google.co.uk?q=hello"]; NSURLRequest *request = [NSURLRequest requestWithURL:url]; UIWebView *webView = [[UIWebView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(0, 0, 320, 400)]; webView.delegate=self; [webView loadRequest:request]; [self.view addSubview:webView]; Using the following transformation: [webView setTransform:CGAffineTransformMakeScale(0.6, 0.6)]; ..the scale is really bad quality and there appears to be no anti-aliasing. Does anyone know why this is happening or have a suggestion on how it could be fixed? Thanks! Nick.

  • UIImageView rotation (NOT the image, but the view)

    - by Kuko
Hi. How do I rotate the ImageView ... i'm trying to use landscape mode, and have a problem with accelerometer moving the image ... Because when I work in portrait mode the x of accelerometer is the same as the x of the image ... But when I work landscape, the x of accelerometer is the y of the image, because the ImageView autorotates with the parent View. When I rotate the image with CGAffineTransformMakeRotation(M_PI/2), it rotates only the image in it's ImageView... and the x,y sides stays untouched ... Is there any way to make own class which will extend UIImageView where I will swap the x,y sides of a UIImageView ? Or is there some way to rotate the UIImageView, and not only the image in it?

  • Where can I find an iPhone OpenGL ES Example that responds to touch?

    - by Jamey McElveen
I would like to find an iPhone OpenGL ES Example that responds to touch. Ideally it would meet these requirements: Displays a 3D object in the center of the screen like a cube Maps a texture to the cube surfaces Should move the camera around the cube as you drag your finger Should zoom the camera in and out on the cube by pinching Optionally has a background behind the cube that wraps around the back of the camera.(for example this could create the effect of the cube being in space) Has anyone seen one or more examples that can do these or at least render the cube with the texture?

  • Can I push a modal view controller from within another modal view controller?

    - by Andy
I've got a rootViewController that, at one point, displays a peoplePickerNavigationController. I'm trying to push a second view controller when my user selects a specific contact property, like so: -(BOOL)peoplePickerNavigationController:(ABPeoplePickerNavigationController *)picker shouldContinueAfterSelectingPerson:(ABPersonRef)person property:(ABPropertyID)property identifier:(ABMultiValueIdentifier)identifier { RuleBuilder *ruleBuilder = [[RuleBuilder alloc] initWithNibName:@"RuleBuilder" bundle:nil]; [self pushModalViewController:ruleBuilder animated:YES]; [ruleBuilder release]; return NO; } This compiles just fine, but when I run the code in the simulator and run through the peoplePicker, nothing happens when I select a contact property. On a whim, I added a [self dismissModalViewControllerAnimated:YES]; just before [ruleBuilder release]; and that dismisses the peoplePicker, but otherwise has no effect on my missing ruleBuilder. Any ideas?

  • iPhone OpenGL ES freezes for no reason

    - by KJ
Hi, I'm quite new to iPhone OpenGL ES, and I'm really stuck. I was trying to implement shadow mapping on iPhone, and I allocated two 512*1024*32bit textures for the shadow map and the diffuse map respectively. The problem is that my application started to freeze and reboot the device after I added the shadow map allocation part to the code (so I guess the shadow map allocation is causing all this mess). It happens randomly, but mostly within 10 minutes. (sometimes within a few secs) And it only happens on the real iPhone device, not on the virtual device. I backtracked the problem by removing irrelevant code lines by lines and now my code is really simple, but it's still crashing (I mean, freezing). Could anybody please download my xcode project linked below and see what on earth is wrong? The code is really simple: http://www.tempfiles.net/download/201004/95922/CrashTest.html I would really appreciate if someone can help me. My iPhone is a 3GS and running on the OS version 3.1. Again, run the code and it'll take about 5 mins in average for the device to freeze and reboot. (Don't worry, it does no harm) It'll just display cyan screen before it freezes, but you'll be able to notice when it happens because the device will reboot soon, so please be patient. Just in case you can't reproduce the problem, please let me know. (That could possibly mean it's specifically my device that something's wrong with) Observation: The problem goes away when I change the size of the shadow map to 512*512. (but with the diffuse map still 512*1024) I'm desperate for help, thanks in advance! Just for the people's information who can't download the link, here is the OpenGL code: #import "GLView.h" #import <OpenGLES/ES2/glext.h> #import <QuartzCore/QuartzCore.h> @implementation GLView + (Class)layerClass { return [CAEAGLLayer class]; } - (id)initWithCoder: (NSCoder*)coder { if ((self = [super initWithCoder:coder])) { CAEAGLLayer* layer = (CAEAGLLayer*)self.layer; layer.opaque = YES; layer.drawableProperties = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithObjectsAndKeys: [NSNumber numberWithBool: NO], kEAGLDrawablePropertyRetainedBacking, kEAGLColorFormatRGBA8, kEAGLDrawablePropertyColorFormat, nil]; displayLink_ = nil; context_ = [[EAGLContext alloc] initWithAPI: kEAGLRenderingAPIOpenGLES2]; if (!context_ || ![EAGLContext setCurrentContext: context_]) { [self release]; return nil; } glGenFramebuffers(1, &framebuffer_); glBindFramebuffer(GL_FRAMEBUFFER, framebuffer_); glViewport(0, 0, self.bounds.size.width, self.bounds.size.height); glGenRenderbuffers(1, &defaultColorBuffer_); glBindRenderbuffer(GL_RENDERBUFFER, defaultColorBuffer_); [context_ renderbufferStorage: GL_RENDERBUFFER fromDrawable: layer]; glFramebufferRenderbuffer(GL_FRAMEBUFFER, GL_COLOR_ATTACHMENT0, GL_RENDERBUFFER, defaultColorBuffer_); glGenTextures(1, &shadowColorBuffer_); glActiveTexture(GL_TEXTURE1); glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D, shadowColorBuffer_); glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_MIN_FILTER, GL_LINEAR); glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_MAG_FILTER, GL_LINEAR); glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_WRAP_S, GL_CLAMP_TO_EDGE); glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_WRAP_T, GL_CLAMP_TO_EDGE); glTexImage2D(GL_TEXTURE_2D, 0, GL_RGBA, 512, 1024, 0, GL_RGBA, GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE, NULL); glGenTextures(1, &texture_); glActiveTexture(GL_TEXTURE0); glBindTexture(GL_TEXTURE_2D, texture_); glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_MIN_FILTER, GL_LINEAR); glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_MAG_FILTER, GL_LINEAR); glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_WRAP_S, GL_CLAMP_TO_EDGE); glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_WRAP_T, GL_CLAMP_TO_EDGE); glTexImage2D(GL_TEXTURE_2D, 0, GL_RGBA, 512, 1024, 0, GL_RGBA, GL_UNSIGNED_BYTE, NULL); } return self; } - (void)startAnimation { displayLink_ = [CADisplayLink displayLinkWithTarget: self selector: @selector(drawView:)]; [displayLink_ setFrameInterval: 1]; [displayLink_ addToRunLoop: [NSRunLoop currentRunLoop] forMode:NSDefaultRunLoopMode]; } - (void)useDefaultBuffers { glFramebufferRenderbuffer(GL_FRAMEBUFFER, GL_COLOR_ATTACHMENT0, GL_RENDERBUFFER, defaultColorBuffer_); glClearColor(0.0, 0.8, 0.8, 1); glClear(GL_COLOR_BUFFER_BIT); } - (void)useShadowBuffers { glFramebufferTexture2D(GL_FRAMEBUFFER, GL_COLOR_ATTACHMENT0, GL_TEXTURE_2D, shadowColorBuffer_, 0); glClearColor(0, 0, 0, 0); glClear(GL_COLOR_BUFFER_BIT); } - (void)drawView: (id)sender { NSTimeInterval startTime = [NSDate timeIntervalSinceReferenceDate]; [EAGLContext setCurrentContext: context_]; [self useShadowBuffers]; [self useDefaultBuffers]; glBindRenderbuffer(GL_RENDERBUFFER, defaultColorBuffer_); [context_ presentRenderbuffer: GL_RENDERBUFFER]; NSTimeInterval endTime = [NSDate timeIntervalSinceReferenceDate]; NSLog(@"FPS : %.1f", 1 / (endTime - startTime)); } - (void)stopAnimation { [displayLink_ invalidate]; displayLink_ = nil; } - (void)dealloc { if (framebuffer_) glDeleteFramebuffers(1, &framebuffer_); if (defaultColorBuffer_) glDeleteRenderbuffers(1, &defaultColorBuffer_); if (shadowColorBuffer_) glDeleteTextures(1, &shadowColorBuffer_); glDeleteTextures(1, &texture_); if ([EAGLContext currentContext] == context_) [EAGLContext setCurrentContext: nil]; [context_ release]; context_ = nil; [super dealloc]; } @end

I have a UITextView with a height of let's say 300. What I would like is when the typed text gets to the half way point, for the scrolling to start as if it were at the bottom of the textView. Basically I would like to programmatically set the point within the textView for scrolling to begin. Any ideas? Thanks.

  • BroadcastReceiver not receiving an alarm's broadcast

    - by juanjux
    I have a code that sets a new repeating alarm (on production I'll use a inexactRepeating), but the BroadCastReceiver I've registered for handling it is not being called. Here is the code where I set the alarm: newAlarmPeriod = 5000; // For debugging Intent alarmIntent = new Intent(this, GroupsCheckAlarmReceiver.class); PendingIntent sender = PendingIntent.getBroadcast(this, Constants.CHECK_ALARM_CODE, alarmIntent, 0); AlarmManager am = (AlarmManager) getSystemService(ALARM_SERVICE); am.setRepeating(AlarmManager.RTC_WAKEUP, System.currentTimeMillis() + newAlarmPeriod, newAlarmPeriod, sender); It seems to work and it triggers and alarm every five seconds, as seen in the output of "adb shell dumpsys alarm": DUMP OF SERVICE alarm: Current Alarm Manager state: Realtime wakeup (now=1269941046923): RTC_WAKEUP #1: Alarm{43cbac58 type 0 android} type=0 when=1269997200000 repeatInterval=0 count=0 operation=PendingIntent{43bb1738: PendingIntentRecord{43bb1248 android broadcastIntent}} RTC_WAKEUP #0: Alarm{43ce30e0 type 0 com.almarsoft.GroundhogReader} type=0 when=1269941049555 repeatInterval=5000 count=1 operation=PendingIntent{43d990c8: PendingIntentRecord{43d49108 com.almarsoft.GroundhogReader broadcastIntent}} RTC #1: Alarm{43bfc250 type 1 android} type=1 when=1269993600000 repeatInterval=0 count=0 operation=PendingIntent{43c5a618: PendingIntentRecord{43c4f048 android broadcastIntent}} RTC #0: Alarm{43d67dd8 type 1 android} type=1 when=1269941100000 repeatInterval=0 count=0 operation=PendingIntent{43c4e0f0: PendingIntentRecord{43c4f6c8 android broadcastIntent}} Broadcast ref count: 0 Alarm Stats: android 24390ms running, 0 wakeups 80 alarms: act=android.intent.action.TIME_TICK flg=0x40000004 com.almarsoft.GroundhogReader 26ms running, 2 wakeups 2 alarms: flg=0x4 cmp=com.almarsoft.GroundhogReader/.GroupsCheckAlarmReceiver But for some reason my BroadCastReceiver is not being called when the alarm is triggered. I've declared it on the Manifest: <receiver android:name=".GroupsCheckAlarmReceiver" /> And this is the abbreviated code: public class GroupsCheckAlarmReceiver extends BroadcastReceiver{ @Override public void onReceive(Context context, Intent intent) { Toast.makeText(context, "XXX Alarm worked.", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); Log.d("XXX", "GroupsCheckAlarmReceiver.onReceive"); }
