• Issue with broken disk on Solaris with raidctl - how to proceed

  I have a SunFire T2000 server which has 2 mirrored disks pairs. The server required an exchange of the system battery. After swaping the battery first no disks were found. After booting from CD we managed to find the disks, but now one disk is broken and the raidctl reports a failed synchronisation. The boot process stops now when trying to mount the file systems. The power light of the broken drive is not even blinking. What is the best way to proceed now ? Fortunately I could live with loosing the data on the drive as it is backed up, but I would like to keep the rest of the data as it contains /etc and get the server booting again.

• NTFS Folder has no owner, no permissions, can't be deleted

  Hi, I have a folder a 2003 member server which can't be deleted. Nothing has any permissions (domain admin and running up a cmd prompt as "nt authority\system" using psexec) - always "access denied". When I do a dir /q, the owner shows as "...". I've tried takeown.exe on the folder and also it's parent. The bad folder always reports "access denied". Also tried to reset using icacls, same thing. Explorer permissons has no sharing & security options or tabs. It works fine for other folders, even in the same directory. Bit stumped to say the least. g.

  The Software Update tool shows already installed updates. I already installed them a few times, clicking either the 'Update All' button or the indivisual 'Update' buttons. The apps are: Keynote, Numbers, Pages, Skitch, Evernote, Fotor. 'Check for unfinished downloads' reports all downloads have finished. Signing out and back in and reloading didn't help. $ sudo softwareupdate -ia Password: Software Update Tool Copyright 2002-2012 Apple Inc. Finding available software No updates are available. Googling didn't help. How can I fix the GUI tool so it updates its status? OSX 10.9.3

• PowerShell script halts execution when Windows XP PC is locked

  I have the following script that does a continuous ping and reports failures. It works fine, except the loop apparently "suspends" when the computer is locked. I have confirmed this by starting the script, immediately locking the PC, waiting 10 minutes, and seeing how many pings have occurred. It is nowhere near the expected number. What could be the culprit? • Tracing what program is making a network connnection? (CentOS)

  I was wondering if it is possible to find out which process is trying to make a specific network connection. On a server I support which hosts websites for about 200 users, the iptables firewall keeps blocking, as it should, a connection to 212.117.169.139 on port 80. Firefox reports this as an attack page (and at the least is obvious spam, if not malicious). It seems something on this server is trying to access this site for some reason, and although it's being blocked successfully, the requests seem to be going through every two to sixty seconds and I'd like to be able to find what process or script is doing this so I can handle it appropriately. Besides doing a grep to try and find if this IP is in some file (which probably won't even work because it may be working by hostname or it may be encoded), is there any way to find out some more information?   The man page states -C directory In c and r mode, this changes the directory before adding the following files. However, tar does not change to the directory I specify, but instead reports tar: <folder name>: Cannot stat: No such file or directory for every folder in the directory I run the tar command in. Do I really have to do something like cd <folder> && tar ... && cd - or is there a way to get this work ?

My problem is, my network connection is often failed to my office. But I have to input all time. So, now I want to use two instances of my software. • Wireless WAN (WWAN) on a Lenovo T500 - built-in or do I need a WWAN modem?

  I use a Lenovo ThinkPad 2055-3AU at work and I want to get a Wireless WAN data plan with a local mobile telecom provider. I've read conflicting reports online about whether my system is "WWAN-ready" or not. How can I find out which wireless WAN providers (if any) my system can support without buying a separate modem? I looked through Device Manager for anything resembling a WWAN device and didn't see anything, but I also wiped the machine when I bought it and clean-installed Windows 7 with only out-of-the-box Windows and Windows-Update drivers, so it's possible that the device is there but the drivers aren't installed. FWIW, the support page at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/quickPath.do?quickPathEntry=20553AU does not specfically list anything about Wireless WAN.

• Kill UDP port that has no process?

  I can't bind to UDP port 500 from my code (yes I'm running w/ sudo). The port is reported as "already in use" (Mac os X), but doesn't have an associated process: $ sudo netstat -na | grep "udp.*\.500\>" udp4 0 0 192.168.50.181.500 *.* udp4 0 0 192.168.29.166.500 *.* But sudo lsof doesn't show a process on port 500 (ie sudo lsof -i:500 -P reports nothing). How can I unbind port 500 so I can use it again? I believe I have a bad VPN client that isn't cleaning up after itself, but I can't get rid of this without rebooting the machine.

• PS/2 mouse works with Windows 7 32-bit but not recognised by 64-bit, What to do?

  Our USB mouse was stolen and a PS/2 OK_520 Mouse that works OK on my Medion PC, running Windows 7 32-bit, if plugged in before booting, is not recognised by Windows 7 64-bit on a Dell INSPIRONone_19T with a 19" Touch Screen. (It is a communal computer available to all residents.) A USB mouse works OK and the Update Driver option reports: 'driver is up to date'. Without the USB Mouse, Device Manager/Mice shows only the Touch Screen as a Mouse. The Add New Hardware option searches but shows nothing and the Troubleshooter says ' device possibly not recognised, alterations made to system, try again.' but it is still not recognised after repeated re-boots. The BIOS does not seem to have any option to enable a PS/2 Mouse. The Mouse is very old so maybe it is not 64-bit compatible, or there is no 64-bit driver for one, but how to get one if the device is not recognised?

• How can I remount an NFS volume on Red Hat Linux?

  I changed the user id of a user on an NFS client that mounts a volume from another server. My goal is to get the 2 users to have the same id, so that both servers can read and write to the volume. I changed the id successfully on the client system, but now when I look at the NFS mount from that system, it reports the files being owned by the old id. So it looks like I need to "refresh" that mount. I have found many instructions on how to remount, but each seems slightly different according to the type of system. Is there a simple command I can run to get the mounted volume to refresh so that it interprets the new user settings?

• flash h264 mp4 playback pixelation

  Working with converting/playing h264 mp4 videos in flash. I'm converting the video from various source file formats (mostly .mov & .mp4), to h264 mp4 using ffmpeg server side. All seems to be working just fine, except I'm getting a few reports of pixelation of the video when being viewed on windows machines. I've testing just about every browser I can think of on (XP/Vista/7) and could not reproduce. Here's a screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/IK5RV.jpg (sorry for the resolution, was in an email from the client, as I'm unable to reproduce.) Anyone else ever run into this issue? At this point it could be anything in my mind. It seems like an odd bug, and probably a codec issue, or somehow a 32/64-bit issue?

• Swap 95%+ , but a lot of free ram memory

  I am running centos 5.8 with cpanel. Lately I am getting reports that my swap is full , but there is a lot of free memory to use. top - 10:33:43 up 133 days, 17:00, 1 user, load average: 0.05, 0.03, 0.05 Tasks: 170 total, 1 running, 169 sleeping, 0 stopped, 0 zombie Cpu(s): 2.1%us, 0.5%sy, 0.0%ni, 97.2%id, 0.0%wa, 0.0%hi, 0.2%si, 0.0%st Mem: 24726100k total, 8255368k used, 16470732k free, 599560k buffers Swap: 1046520k total, 984740k used, 61780k free, 3641828k cached How do I solve this? The unused ram memory should be used instead of the swap. Or should I increase the swap ( and how do I do that ? ). Thanks

  Are all tag dimensions in pixels? I am asking because I understood them to be. But my math is broken or I am just not grasping something here. I have been doing python mostly and just jumped back into Java Scripting. If I am just doing something stupid let me know. For a game I am writing, I wanted to have a blocky gradient. In Google Chrome and Fire Fox I get 15 bars. To me that means ( 480 / 15 ) is 32 pixel high bars. Other than the fact that the first code snippet has shades of blue rendering in non-visible portions of the they are measuring 32 pixels. Now back to the Original Java Code... If I inspect the tag in Chrome it reports 640 x 480. If I inspect it in Fire Fox it reports 640 x 480. BUT! Fire Fox exports the original code to png at 300 x 150 (which is 15 rows of 10). Is it some how being resized to 640 x 480 by the CSS instead of being set to a true 640 x 480? Why, how, what? O_o I confused...

• Firefox hangs with java in Linux

  I am using Firefox 3.6 on Linux and I haveJava 6 update 15. Obviously I am using the newer plugin type. Whenever I open a page with Java applet it just becoms unresponsive and hangs. I tried with Chrome. I think it detects the Java plugin from mozilla's plugins folder. Due to multiprocess architecture it doesn't hang and shows the initial applet loading window but then it reports that the plugin has crashed. The only way I can run Java applets is to download the class file and make an html file and run the applet using applet viewer.

  I am setting up two servers; one iis 7 and one sql 2008. I need to use reporting services. What is the best way to set up reporting services so that my iis box can serve the reports. I'm sure this is not an unusual configuration, but I'm having a lot of trouble finding an answer to this - probably because I am using the wrong terminology. Also does this configuration require two sql licenses (one for each server)? • Open Directory authenticated bind succeeds, but creates incomplete record

  I have about a dozen Macs running 10.6.7 or 10.6.8, which are all failing to bind properly to my new 10.7.4 Server OD. I can bind them just fine via Directory Utility or dsconfigldap, and it reports success. However, when I look at the record, it is failing to write the MAC address. Even if I manually update the record with the MAC address, MCX doesn't do anything and clients can't log in to OD accounts. All of the affected clients have hundreds of lines in the /Library/Logs/DirectoryService.error.log like so: 2012-09-15 22:23:18 EDT - T[0x00007FFF70292CC0] - GetMACAddress returned 0x *** bad control string *** 8x I do know that all of these clients were previously managed with the Guest computer account, and I also know that they were all imaged with a DeployStudio image when they were purchased. I've tried dscacheutil -flushcache, but after that I'm drawing a blank. Google has a few hits, but nothing very helpful. Re-imaging would be ideal but probably isn't going to happen. Anyone come across this before?

• How do you create a SQL query in Excel 2007 with a dynamic date range?

  I am trying to create a reporting spreadsheet that can print reports for a given time period. The query below works, but when I try to use a "?" parameter in place of the date, I get an error after selecting a cell containing my date. If I use single quotes ('?') I get a conversion from string to date/time failure, if I don't (?) I get a syntax error near @p1. Eventually I will need either a start and end date or a formula adding a month or shift to the starting date/time to filter the data down to important information. The query was built in Microsoft Query. SELECT FloatTable.DateAndTime, TagTable.TagName FROM master.dbo.FloatTable FloatTable, master.dbo.TagTable TagTable WHERE FloatTable.TagIndex = TagTable.TagIndex AND ((FloatTable.DateAndTime={ts '2012-06-01 00:00:00'})) Any assistance would be much appreciated.   I recently built a new Core i5 system with Windows 7 Professional. I had planned to hook up my TVS MSP 250 XL printer using a USB to parallel cable Once I plug the cable in, Windows 7 recognizes it as an IEEE-1284 controller and automatically installs the appropriate driver. However, in the status window it reports the following: "USB Printing Support -- Ready to use" "No Printer Attached -- Ready to use" When I then go ahead and manually add the printer using the "virtual printer port for USB" I can add the printer seemingly without problem. Once finished, it appears in the Devices and Printers panel. Yet, all attempts to print on this printer fail. It appears that simply no data is sent to the printer (either by programs like word or adobe or by attempting to print a test page. Does anybody know how to fix this?

It should display output something like this (numbers are made up): Program usage today: Youtube (Chrome) 42:10 9.42% NetBeans 30:52 6.33% Google search (Chrome) 12:03 3.20% Windows explorer 5:43 1.54% Putty 2:23 0.89% ? ? ? Features I look for: Advanced statistics: ability to view a chart, to see statistics today, this week, this month. Program usage should be based on the title of the active window. The time where the user is idle shouldn't count. Ability to group some windows title together, for example, I want to group titles as Stack Overflow and * - Stack Overflow together, same thing for every website and explorer windows. Do you know a program that does something similar?

• SQL Server: How to report error from a job's step of PowerShell type

  I have a SQL job whose step of 'PowerShell' type does 'exit 1' if encounters an error i.e. $ErrorActionPreference='stop'; trap{"$_"; exit 1} Problem is, SQL Server doesn't pay attention to that exit code, and reports "The step did not generate any output. Process Exit Code 0. The step succeeded." Any idea how to successfully tell SQL Server from a PowerShell step that something went wrong? Thanks in advance.

• SBS Report displaying critical error events but nothing in Event Viewer

  We have a Windows Server server set up running SBS 2008 on a 64-bit architecture. When I run my daily SBS Console reports I am being told there is a critical error on the server with Event ID 56 & Source "TermDD". This is all fairly regular behaviour and I have plenty of sites I would normally troubleshoot errors on but the strange thing is there are no errors appearing in the Windows Event Viewer & I can find no help on why this might be... Has anyone experienced this before / know what might be the cause? Many thanks

• What would cause a single working website to not work on 1 out of 5 devices on a network?

  There is a specific website that loads up without problem on all machines on my network (both wired and wireless) except one laptop. This laptop is a Windows 7 machine that was just recovered using the recovery partition, so it is fresh. The site will not load in Firefox 3.6 or IE 8. The website is http://www.weightwacthers.com The site loads fine on my desktop, iPhone, and Droid, but not the laptop. In all my years in this business I've honestly never seen this happen. Also, 'Is it down for me or everyone' reports that it is indeed only me. What would cause this to happen?

• XPS M1730 Freezing & Crashing unexpectedly

  I have a Dell XPS M1730, freshly installed with Windows 7 Professional 32-bit that every so often crashes completely unexpectedly. It need not be running any applications at all for this to happen, never mind anything particularly intensive. It also clearly is not a BSoD issue as no Minidump files are being created in the process. All drivers are up to date and have been both rolled back and then updated and the Device Manager reports no issues. There are very few applications installed on the machine and it has only been online once. It runs a minimal boot of Win7 and yet still after all of this something is making it crash. All of this suggests to me it may be more like a hardware problem but to be honest I really have no idea - so I thought I'd try here. Any thoughts...? Many thanks in advance
