• Duck checker in Python: does one exist?

  Python uses duck-typing, rather than static type checking. But many of the same concerns ultimately apply: does an object have the desired methods and attributes? Do those attributes have valid, in-range values? Whether you're writing constraints in code, or writing test cases, or validating user input, or just debugging, inevitably somewhere you'll need to verify that an object is still in a proper state--that it still "looks like a duck" and "quacks like a duck." In statically typed languages you can simply declare "int x", and anytime you create or mutate x, it will always be a valid int. It seems feasible to decorate a Python object to ensure that it is valid under certain constraints, and that every time that object is mutated it is still valid under those constraints. Ideally there would be a simple declarative syntax to express "hasattr length and length is non-negative" (not in those words. Not unlike Rails validators, but less human-language and more programming-language). You could think of this as ad-hoc interface/type system, or you could think of it as an ever-present object-level unit test. Does such a library exist to declare and validate constraint/duck-checking on Python-objects? Is this an unreasonable tool to want? :) (Thanks!)   Since, I have written courses on MySQL, I quite often get emails about MySQL courses. Here is the question, which I have received quite often. “How do I loop queries in MySQL?” Well, currently MySQL does not allow to write loops with the help of ad-hoc SQL. You have to write stored procedure (routine) for the same. Here is the example, how we can create a procedure in MySQL which will look over the code. In this example I have used SELECT 1 statement and looped over it. In reality you can put there any code and loop over it. • Internet problems

  I have a strange problem. When I copy/paste via ethernet everything is working fine. But when I go to youtube or downloading some files via internet, connection is freezing very often. Just stop downloading and after few minutes continue and than again stop and etc... Could it be hardware problem with network card or motherboard (network is integrated on board)? I am using Ubuntu 14.04 but it happens on live cd distribution of Mint. There is no restrictions cose when I using on same switch my other laptop with linux installed everything working fine.

• No input method choice appear on iBus

  I've installed iBus and ibus-mozc, and an input method engine of Japanese from the repository, and attempted to enable mozc from Preference > "Input Method" tab > "Select Input Method" combo box. However, there is no choice to select, so I couldn't enable mozc. I also tried ibus-anthy, another legacy Japanese input method, but the situation was the same and I couldn't use anthy. Same problem is also occuring in openSUSE 12.1, so I don't think this is distribution-specific problem. In addition, this trouble also happened when I installed ibus-pynin, so this is not Japanese-specific. Any idea to find the cause of this trouble?

• Is there a solution for SugarCRM that can map roles or privileges to Active Directory groups?

  We're presenting SugarCRM as an option to one of our clients, but they want to drive permissions within Sugar by users' AD groups. Current LDAP integration with SugarCRM only does password management. Does anybody know of a plug-in that supports this? I've searched and have not been able to find anything. Has anybody change the LDAP module code within Sugar to accommodate these features? I'd be interested in chatting with you. I apologize if this isn't on the correct site; neither serverfault nor stackoverflow seemed like the correct place. Perhaps webapps? Thanks!

• Exchange 2013 goes RTM!

  Exchange 2013 has been signed off and is now RTM! Hoozaaa!!   From the Exchange team blog: Today we reached an important milestone in the development of the new Exchange. Moments ago, the Exchange engineering team signed off on the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) build. This milestone means the coding and testing phase of the project is complete and we are now focused on releasing the new Exchange via multiple distribution channels to our business customers. General availability is planned for the first quarter of 2013. We have a number of programs that provide business customers with early access so they can begin testing, piloting and adopting Exchange within their organizations: We will begin rolling out new capabilities to Office 365 Enterprise customers in our next service updates, starting in November through general availability. Volume Licensing customers with Software Assurance will be able to download Exchange Server 2013 through the Volume Licensing Service Center by mid-November.   I recently got Ubuntu installed on my server, I wanted to install TeamViewer so i could easy manage the virtual machines, However, I get errors when installing it from App store?, And I also get errors, but more detailed on the terminal. • News Portal CMS

  I am looking for a specific news portal CMS. I know all the major "general" CMS (like WordPress, Drupal or Joomla) and even the less known ones (like TYPO3, Expression Engine, Text Pattern or Concrete5). I'm already working with a Drupal distribution called OpenPublish and another WordPress installation to determine which would be better, but these are more of a Plan B. I would like to work directly with a CMS that was build exactly for this kind of tasks specific to a news / media portal. It doesn't matter if the CMS is commercial (however, I don't want to pay a monthly fee) or free, but I need to be able to use it on my own server / hosting and I need to be able to access it's source code (not to modify it, but to integrate it with future plugins / modules). If you know any CMS that qualifies for this job, please let me know. In the last few days I was all over Google but I couldn't anything worth mentioning.

• cannot mount remote partition using fstab/fuse

  Using a combination of http://ubuntu-tutorials.com/2007/01/02/mount-remote-directories-securely-with-ssh-ubuntu-6061-610/ and http://www.tuxfiles.org/linuxhelp/fstab.html I figured I could mount the root of another computer to somewhere on my new laptop to make it easier to transfer files and stuff. Now, I can connect through SSH and browser the files through an ad-hoc mount - but I would like to be able to do this automatically, and so had a look at fstab. my new entry in fstab is: remote_comp:/ /var/remote_comp fuse defaults 0 0 but testing with mount -a results in the following error: /bin/sh: remote_comp:/: not found I thought the problem was because I was trying to mount the root of the other computer, but even trying sub-directories result in the same error message.

• On the frontier between work and home

  I think we've all been there: You hear of someone say "hey, wouldn't it be nice if platform X had feature Y?" You look around (on SO!), the feature really doesn't exist, even though it probably would be useful in many contexts. So it's pretty generic. Your mind wanders for a bit. "How tough would it be? Well, it'd probably be just a snippet. And an ad-hoc function. And maybe a wrapper." And boom, before you know it, you've spent a dozen hours of your free time implementing a FooFeature that's really neat and generic. The kind of code you might not even have the time to spit and shine at work, that would be a bit rushed and not so documented. So now you wonder "wouldn't this be useful to others?" And you've got your blog, maybe a CodeProject account, and your colleague who asked if FooFeature exists might, haphazardly, come accross that blog entry, had it existed before they told you. On the otherhand, the NDA agreement. It's sort of vague and general. It doesn't forbid you from coding at home, but it's clear on sharing company code, that's a big NO. But this isn't company code. Or is it? Or will it be? So, what do you do with code (that's more than just a snippet) you wrote in your off time with universality in mind but an idea that came from work, and that will most likely be used at work? Can it be published?

• Mac Mini monitor on the move – can I use VNC or a portable monitor?

  I have been investigating the possibility of using my PC to control my soon to arrive Mac Mini when on the move. I can't afford and hope you don't give me answers suggesting buying a MacBook. My Mac Mini is the high end type. Now I have seen that the only viable option seems to be VNC. But how does this work if I am not on a network? Does VNC work with an ad-hoc network? Can a PC be connected to a Mac on such a network? Can this network be configured once at home and then be available on startup on the move? If I have an iPhone, can I use it as my wifi? But then, how would I start the Mac Mini to make the connection, since it wouldn't have a screen on the move? Finally, are there any small portable screens one can carry in a bag?
