  • Install ubuntu-11.10-desktop-amd64 with Logitech diNovo Edge

    I know there are problems (and have been for quite some time) with the diNovo Edge keyboard. The solution could be found easily and often you can use the on-screen keyboard to fix it. Now I'm installing Ubuntu from scratch and the only keyboard I have is my diNovo, am I screwed? You are able to get to System Config during the install process and from there to Accessibility menu where you usually can start the on-screen keyboard. This doesn't work, no keyboard in sight... What if I can do some ninja copy-paste with the mouse?? Nope, no pasting allowed in the feilds: username, password, etc. Is there a chance I can fix this somehow within the .iso file before I create the bootable USB drive I use to install from? Or do I have to buy a keyboard to be able to install Ubuntu?

  • Does an ESEUTIL defrag of an Exchange store also perform an integrity check/repair on it?

    Earlier this morning, store.exe fuzzled up in one way or another, which necessitated a restart of our Exchange server. It came back online with no errors or problems, all the transaction logs replayed successfully, and all the stores mounted as normal. To me, it was just one of those random crashes; however, our consultant suspects it was caused by corruption in one of the stores. Perhaps he's correct, since he has far more experience than me, but that's not the point. To fix the suspected errors, he's planinng to run an ESEUTIL defrag (via PerfectDisk) to fix them, which he claims will also fix any errors present. From what I understand, defrag, verify, and repair are 3 separate actions, and a defrag does not imply any kind of integrity check. Is this correct? Are there any dangers of running a straight-up defrag on a database that might be corrupt? Edit: Here's the first error in the event log, which indicated the start of the problems we were having.   • Weird system freeze. Nothing works keyboard/mouse/reset button - Ubuntu 12.04 64bits [closed]

    I have fresh PC: i5 3570K with Intel 4000 onboard ASrock Z77 Extreme4-m 8GG RAM - Adata 1333Mhz... 1TB Seagate drive 7200rpm I've also fresh systems - Ubuntu/Win7 and today there was something strange. Ubuntu twice just freezed. Everything stopped, even keyboard and mouse wasn't responding. Even RESET button didn't work. Right now memtest is running, but I'd like to know, where else can i look for cause. Can it be software fault if even reset isn't working? Only long reset pressing rebooted PC... I'm a bit confused. Or should I test components - CPU, motherboard, disk. Which logs in Ubuntu should I check to diagnose cause? EHm I had few adventures with this PC already. Shipped motherboard was broken (ASrock Z68 Extreme3) and had old bios, so I had to contact with reseller, replace it and at the end decided on Z77, but everything took 3 weeks, so I have bad feelings... Edit: Both freezes were during editing something in gedit (it can be coincidence) and after few updates today - when memtest is end I'll check what was updated

I then fire up XBMC from a terminal on the PC monitor using DISPLAY=:0.1 xbmc XBMC fires up quite nicely on the TV however I can no longer use the main PC monitor / mouse / keyboard as XBMC on the TV screen seems to have focus. I was hoping to have XBMC running on the TV and let the kids use the MCE remote whilst I get on with my work on the PC monitor. Does anyone have any idea how to overcome this? I'm presuming there's some xorg.conf fun and games needed but I've no idea where to start to be honest.

Update: this question is about a behavior discovered in the iPad keyboard, where it refuses to be dismissed if shown in a modal dialog with a navigation controller. Basically, if I present the navigation controller with the following line: navigationController.modalPresentationStyle = UIModalPresentationFormSheet; The keyboard refuses to be dismissed. If I comment out this line, the keyboard goes away fine. ... I've got two textFields, username and password; username has a Next button and password has a Done button. The keyboard won't go away if I present this in a modal navigation controller.     Hi, I'm having trouble finding a VNC server for Mac OS X that allows me to connect from a Windows box with German keyboard layout. I've tried the built-in desktop sharing and several versions of Vine but all of them had problems with several keys. Does maybe anyone know about a working combination of a Mac OS X VNC server and Windows VNC client which properly supports a German keyboard layout on the client? Update: I don't think the Windows client is the problem, because I have no issues connecting to Linux boxes. And I've tried several different clients.

  • Any way to disable Ctrl+L keyboard shortcut for clearing scrollback in Pidgin?

    I am using Pidgin 2.7.1 on Windows XP and I noticed that if I am in a conversation window and I press Ctrl+L, it clears my conversation history and there is no easy way of getting it back (as far as I know). I think this keyboard shortcut is very annoying. I never do this on purpose. It usually happens if I think I am in Firefox and I try to focus the address bar by pressing Ctrl+L, but instead end up clearing my pidgin scrollback. I have no use for such a quick and easy way of triggering a feature that I will rarely, if ever have any reason to use. Is there any way of disabling the keyboard shortcut?

I have tried (and bought) Unison and Thunderbird, but both of these end up requiring a fair amount of mouse use to move around. What I want is something I can task-switch to, check my latest updates, and switch away from, all without having to take my hands off of the keyboard. I should clarify; this is for an internal, private nntp server, so Google Groups and sundry -- basically all web news readers -- won't do for me.

Recently I just brought a bluetooth headset from other company, but I wonder if I can reuse the bluetooth adapter from Logitech to use the headset? I don't seems to find an option in my control panel that allows me to add the headset device.... Or the blue adapter that comes with Logitech is only able to connect to the logitech keyboard? In that case, if I buy a bluetooth adapter, will it possible to share 1 bluetooth adapter with two device? (1 to 2? not 1 to 1?)

    Hello again. I encountered a weird behavior in memory just by displaying the default keyboard. I've just created a project with an .xib file for testing purposes. This .xib file has an UITextField element in it and it's connected in the .h via: @property(nonatomic, retain) IBOutlet UITextField *sometext; The .m has no changes but: - (void)viewDidAppear:(BOOL)animated { [someText becomeFirstResponder]; } As you see it's very very simple. The problem is that once the keyboard is shown, the memory allocated for it NEVER goes down. I've tested this scenario in another project with the only difference of having two .xib files. Standar pushViewController and popViewController calls are made. Instruments show an increase of 600kb in memory allocations [which are a lot more in the actual iPhone device]. All in all, hehehe. My question is: How do I release the memory allocated for the keyboard?.

    Considering to switch to dvorak layout, but this terminal is used by multi users as the same user account. It is unacceptable to ask all people to switch layout, plus it is hard to use dvorak layout with a keyboard qwerty-ly labeled. When I click in textField1 again the previous text is disappeared in the textField1. After entering the text in both the textFields, I need the keyboard to disappear.     I'm working on a project in emacs where I'd like to use a keyboard macro that changes slightly with each iteration. When I saw the keyboard macro counter in the manual, that looked like exactly what I needed - but as far as I can tell, that inserts an incrementing number into the current buffer. I want to use an incrementing number as a prefix to another command. For example, instead of inserting 3 into the buffer on the third execution of the macro, I'd like to be able to execute C-u 3 M-x my-command, followed by C-u 4 M-x my-command on the next iteration. Is there way to create a keyboard macro that does this? My specific task is "zipping" two blocks of text in the same buffer together, but even if there's an alternative way to do that specific thing, it'd be good to know the answer to the general question.

  • Have my UIPickerView having the same behavior than the keyboard.

    Hi. So I have a UITableView where one of its rows is a UITextView. When the user is writing something to UITextView (using the keyboard) the user can scroll the tableview and select another cell. Everything works. When the user selects another cell, a datePicker appears, and the user can select a given date. I want the user to be able to scroll the tableView the same way like when the keyboard is on the screen. The problem here is that when I scroll with the picker, the table bounces back to the previous position (with some cells hidden by the picker). I assume that this happens because I add the picker to the main window, as a subview... but I'm honestly not sure... Where (and how) should I add my picker so that it "appears" where the keyboard appears? Not sure I was clear... Thanks a lot.

I can already do simple apps that perform gesture recognition but am not sure where to hook in the gesture views/obj with an IME. Here is a starting skeleton of what I have for the IME so far.   • How can i get my KVM switch to work? (win7 & ubuntu 10.10)

    i bought a KVM switch and i'm trying to use it to have it connected to my main PC (win7) and my new machine i just installed ubuntu on. I hooked it up properly, and tried using it. It worked when switching from the win7 machine to the ubuntu one, but after the (1st and only) successful switch, ubuntu just didn't seem to recognize my mouse or keyboard. Basically when i tried it the easiest was to explain what happened was it only worked with Win7. When i switched over to ubuntu by doing a [scroll-lock] [scroll-lock], my keyboard and mouse were not recognized. However, the lights on the keyboard and mouse did work when on ubuntu, but they didn't function, and since keyboard wouldn't function, i couldn't do a [scroll-lock] [scroll-lock] to switch back to the win7 machine. So i was basically locked in to ubuntu with no mouse or keyboard, and i had to unplug the keyboard/mouse usb's and d-sub to plug the monitor d-sub back into win7 computer to type up this thread and google the issue. Seems some people have had this issue before but i couldn't find a fix... I am 80% sure it has to do with drivers... but there isn't any for KVM switches, at least not this one also i never was unable to find ubuntu drivers/firmware for my mouse and keyboard (Logitech G15 and Razer Deathadder 3500). I don't know how to fix this, perhaps someone super-savvy could write/code a script or work-around or something? I really need to get this thing working, my back is getting sore from bending over and plugging in / unplugging usb/monitor/usb/monitor/usb/usb over and over again lol... and i really would be sad if the constant plugging unplugging of the usb's or the d-sub port would over time damage the ports... i don't want that... There has to be some way to get this working.. Can anyone help? The KVM is a IOGEAR GCS632U Win7 x64 Ubuntu 10.10

Now I replaced the failed drive by hotswapping it with the unassigned drive.   • How do I easily repair a single unreadable block on a Linux disk?

    My Linux system has started throwing SMART errors in the syslog. I tracked it down and believe the problem is a single block on the disk. How do I go about easily getting the disk to reallocate that one block? I'd like to know what file got destroyed in the process. (I'm aware that if one block fails on a disk others are likely to follow; I have a good ongoing backup and just want to try to keep this disk working.) Searching the web leads to the Bad block HOWTO, which describes a manual process on an unmounted disk. It seems complicated and error-prone. Is there a tool to automate this process in Linux? My only other option is the manufacturer's diagnostic tool, but I presume that'll clobber the bad block without any reporting on what got destroyed. Worst case, it might be filesystem metadata. The disk in question is the primary system partition. Using ext3fs and LVM. Here's the error log from syslog and the relevant bit from smartctl. smartd[5226]: Device: /dev/hda, 1 Currently unreadable (pending) sectors Error 1 occurred at disk power-on lifetime: 17449 hours (727 days + 1 hours) ... Error: UNC at LBA = 0x00d39eee = 13868782 There's a full smartctl dump on pastebin.

  • Can I repair a short circuiting problem in a Dell Inspiron 6000 that occurs when it is picked up?

    I have a couple of Dell Inspiron 6000 notebooks that work perfectly fine unless you pick them up by one corner (as most people would). When you lift the notebook it flexes slightly and the notebook shorts out. Sometimes even a gentle bump will cause this to happen. So far the notebook always starts back up without issue, but this behavior is...inconvenient. It occurred to me that someone familiar with the innards might be able to suggest a little MacGyver fix for this. A little electrical tape in the right spot or something like that. Or perhaps this is a common problem and the answer is here, waiting for me to stumble on the correct keywords. I would appreciate any suggestions Note: It is probably worth mentioning that I have disassembled a Dell notebook before to replace a bluetooth card so I comfortable opening up the systems.

    I meant to restore some files, but I forgot that there was a monday backup job just waiting for tape loading. So veritas 10d started to write over my tape and that valuable data is now gone. The original data size was about 40 GB and that accidentally started job wrote about 30 MB to the begin of tape. What are my possibilities to recover some data from that tape? Update: Inventory and catalog doesn't help, media settings are overwrite, not append. It is a DLT drive.
