  • differing methods of alloc / init / retaining an object in objective-c

    - by taber
In several pieces of sample objective-c code I've seen people create new objects like this: RootViewController *viewController = [[RootViewController alloc] init]; self.rootViewController = viewController; // self.rootViewController is a (nonatomic, retain) synthesized property [viewController release]; [window addSubview: [self.rootViewController view]]; Is that any different "behind the scenes" than doing it like this instead? self.rootViewController = [[RootViewController alloc] init]; [window addSubview: [self.rootViewController view]]; Seems a bit more straightforward/streamlined that way so I'm wondering why anyone would opt for the first method. Thanks!

  • Calling activateWindow on QDialog sends window to background

    - by Stan
I am debugging certain application written with C++/Qt4. On Linux it has problems that with certain window managers (gnome-wm/metacity), the main window (based on QDialog) is created in the background (it's not raised). I managed to re-create the scenario using PyQt4 and following code: from PyQt4.QtCore import * from PyQt4.QtGui import * import sys class PinDialog(QDialog): def showEvent(self, event): QDialog.showEvent(self, event) self.raise_() self.activateWindow() if __name__ == "__main__": app = QApplication(sys.argv) widget = PinDialog() app.setActiveWindow(widget) widget.exec_() sys.exit(0) If I remove self.activateWindow() the application works as expected. This seems wrong, since documentation for activateWindow does not specify any conditions under which something like this could happen. My question is: Is there any reason to have activateWindow in showEvent in the first place? If there is some reason, what would be good workaround for focusing issues?

  • removing invisible header from ipad tableview

    - by Cœur
    my UITableView has some kind of invisible header / inset on iPad and not on iPhone. I tried all the following to remove this unwanted header/inset, with no success: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; self.tableview.sectionHeaderHeight = 0.f; self.tableview.sectionFooterHeight = 0.f; self.tableview.tableHeaderView = nil; self.tableview.tableFooterView = nil; self.tableview.contentInset = UIEdgeInsetsZero; } - (CGFloat)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView heightForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section { return 0.f; } - (CGFloat)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView heightForFooterInSection:(NSInteger)section { return 0.f; } - (NSString *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView titleForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section { return @""; } - (UIView *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView viewForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section { return [[[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectNull] autorelease]; } - (UIView *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView viewForFooterInSection:(NSInteger)section { return [[[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectNull] autorelease]; }

  • Getting keyboard size from user info in Swift

    - by user3746428
I have been trying to add some code to move my view up when the keyboard appears, however I am having issues trying to translate the Objective C examples into Swift. I have made some progress but I am stuck on one particular line. These are the two tutorials/questions I have been following: How to move content of UIViewController upwards as Keypad appears using Swift http://www.ioscreator.com/tutorials/move-view-when-keyboard-appears Here is the code I currently have: override func viewWillAppear(animated: Bool) { NSNotificationCenter.defaultCenter().addObserver(self, selector: "keyboardWillShow:", name: UIKeyboardWillShowNotification, object: nil) NSNotificationCenter.defaultCenter().addObserver(self, selector: "keyboardWillHide:", name: UIKeyboardWillHideNotification, object: nil) } override func viewWillDisappear(animated: Bool) { NSNotificationCenter.defaultCenter().removeObserver(self) } func keyboardWillShow(notification: NSNotification) { var keyboardSize = notification.userInfo(valueForKey(UIKeyboardFrameBeginUserInfoKey)) UIEdgeInsets(top: 0, left: 0, bottom: keyboardSize.height, right: 0) let frame = self.budgetEntryView.frame frame.origin.y = frame.origin.y - keyboardSize self.budgetEntryView.frame = frame } func keyboardWillHide(notification: NSNotification) { // } At the moment I am getting an error on this line: var keyboardSize = notification.userInfo(valueForKey(UIKeyboardFrameBeginUserInfoKey)) If someone could let me know what this line of code should be, I should manage to figure out the rest myself.

  • Python: Can subclasses overload inherited methods?

    - by Rosarch
I'm making a shopping cart app in Google App Engine. I have many classes that derive from a base handler: class BaseHandler(webapp.RequestHandler): def get(self, CSIN=None): self.body(CSIN) Does this mean that the body() method of every descendant class needs to have the same argument? This is cumbersome. Only one descendant actually uses that argument. And what about when I add new args? Do I need to go through and change every class? class Detail(BaseHandler): def body(self, CSIN): class MainPage(BaseHandler): def body(self, CSIN=None): #@UnusedVariable class Cart(BaseHandler): def body(self, CSIN): #@UnusedVariable

  • highlighting words at the end of a word

    - by fusion
    i'm not sure how i could have phrased the title better, but my issue is that the highlight function doesn't highlight the search keywords which are at the end of the word. for example, if the search keyword is 'self', it will highlight 'self' or 'self-lessness' or 'Self' [with capital S] but it will not highlight the self of 'yourself' or 'himself' etc. . this is my highlight function: function highlightWords($text, $words) { preg_match_all('~\w+~', $words, $m); if(!$m) return $text; $re = '~\\b(' . implode('|', $m[0]) . ')~i'; $string = preg_replace($re, '<span class="highlight">$0</span>', $text); return $string; }

  • Problem with entityForName & ManagedObjectContext when extending tutorial material

    - by Martin KS
Afternoon all, I tried to add a second data entity to the persistent store in the (locations) coredata tutorial code, and then access this in a new view. I think that I've followed the tutorial, and checked that I'm doing a clean build etc, but can't see what to change to prevent it crashing. I'm afraid I'm at my wits end with this one, and can't seem to find the step that I've missed. I've pasted the header and code files below, please let me know if I need to share any more of the code. The crash seems to happen on the line: NSEntityDescription *entity = [NSEntityDescription entityForName:@"Album" inManagedObjectContext:[self managedObjectContext]]; There is one other line in the code that refers to galleryviewcontroller at the moment, and that's in the main application delegate: galleryViewController.managedObjectContext = [self managedObjectContext]; GalleryViewController.h #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface GalleryViewController : UIViewController { NSManagedObjectContext *managedObjectContext; int rowNumber; IBOutlet UILabel *lblMessage; UIBarButtonItem *addButton; NSMutableArray *imagesArray; } @property (readwrite) int rowNumber; @property (nonatomic, retain) UILabel *lblMessage; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSMutableArray *imagesArray; @property (nonatomic, retain) NSManagedObjectContext *managedObjectContext; @property (nonatomic, retain) UIBarButtonItem *addButton; -(void)updateRowNumber:(int)theIndex; -(void)addImage; @end GalleryViewController.m #import "RootViewController.h" #import "LocationsAppDelegate.h" #import "Album.h" #import "GalleryViewController.h" #import "Image.h" @implementation GalleryViewController @synthesize lblMessage, rowNumber, addButton, managedObjectContext; @synthesize imagesArray; /* // The designated initializer. • Calculate NSString size to adjust UITextField frame

    - by Bernd Plontsch
I have issues calculating the accurate size of a NSString displayed in a UITextField. My goal is to update the textfield frame size according to the string size programmatically (without using sizeToFit). I am using the sizeWithFont function. -(void)resizeTextFieldAccordingToText:(NSString*)textFieldString { CGPoint originalCenter = self.textField.center; UIFont* currentFont = [textField font]; CGSize newSize = [textFieldString sizeWithFont:currentFont]; //Same incorrect results with the extended version of sizeWithFont, e.g. //[textFieldString sizeWithFont:currentFont constrainedToSize:CGSizeMake(300.0, 100.0) lineBreakMode:NSLineBreakByClipping]; [self.textField setFrame:(CGRectMake(self.textField.frame.origin.x, self.textField.frame.origin.y, newSize.width, newSize.height))]; [self.textField setCenter:originalCenter]; } Problem: While this return correct size results at first its becomes more and more unprecise by adding characters therefore finally starts clipping the string (as seen in the right screenshot). How do I get the accurate size of the textField string for correctly adjusting its size?

  • Proper way to set object instance variables

    - by ensnare
I'm writing a class to insert users into a database, and before I get too far in, I just want to make sure that my OO approach is clean: class User(object): def setName(self, name): #Do sanity checks on name self._name = name def setPassword(self, password): #Check password length > 6 characters #Encrypt to md5 self._password = password def commit(self): #Commit to database >>u = User() >>u.setName('Jason Martinez') >>u.setPassword('linebreak') >>u.commit() Is this the right approach? Should I declare class variables up top? Should I use a _ in front of all the class variables to make them private? Thanks for helping out.

  • Map only certain parts of the class to a database using SQLAlchemy?

    - by Az
When mapping an object using SQLAlchemy, is there a way to only map certain elements of a class to a database, or does it have to be a 1:1 mapping? Example: class User(object): def __init__(self, name, username, password, year_of_birth): self.name = name self.username = username self.password = password self.year_of_birth = year_of_birth Say, for whatever reason, I only wish to map the name, username and password to the database and leave out the year_of_birth. Is that possible and will this create problems? Edit - 25/03/2010 Additionally, say I want to map username and year_of_birth to a separate database. Will this database and the one above still be connected (via username)?

  • How would you adblock using Python?

    - by regomodo
I'm slowly building a web browser in PyQt4 and like the speed i'm getting out of it. However, I want to combine easylist.txt with it. I believe adblock uses this to block http requests by the browser. How would you go about it using python/PyQt4? [edit1] Ok. I think i've setup Privoxy. I haven't setup any additional filters and it seems to work. The PyQt4 i've tried to use looks like this self.proxyIP = "127.0.0.1" self.proxyPORT= 8118 proxy = QNetworkProxy() proxy.setType(QNetworkProxy.HttpProxy) proxy.setHostName(self.proxyIP) proxy.setPort(self.proxyPORT) QNetworkProxy.setApplicationProxy(proxy) However, this does absolutely nothing and I cannot make sense of the docs and can not find any examples. [edit2] I've just noticed that i'f I change self.proxyIP to my actual local IP rather than 127.0.0.1 the page doesn't load. So something is happening.

  • Graphing a line and scatter points using Matplotlib?

    - by Patrick O'Doherty
Hi guys I'm using matplotlib at the moment to try and visualise some data I am working on. I'm trying to plot around 6500 points and the line y = x on the same graph but am having some trouble in doing so. I can only seem to get the points to render and not the line itself. I know matplotlib doesn't plot equations as such rather just a set of points so I'm trying to use and identical set of points for x and y co-ordinates to produce the line. The following is my code from matplotlib import pyplot import numpy from pymongo import * class Store(object): """docstring for Store""" def __init__(self): super(Store, self).__init__() c = Connection() ucd = c.ucd self.tweets = ucd.tweets def fetch(self): x = [] y = [] for t in self.tweets.find(): x.append(t['positive']) y.append(t['negative']) return [x,y] if __name__ == '__main__': c = Store() array = c.fetch() t = numpy.arange(0., 0.03, 1) pyplot.plot(array[0], array[1], 'ro', t, t, 'b--') pyplot.show() Any suggestions would be appreciated, Patrick

  • iphone - UIViewController header view errors

    - by Fiona
Hi there, So to give a little background: I've an app that has a UITableViewController- (ContactDetailViewController) In this view at the top, I require a few labels and buttons, followed by a group style tableview. So I've created a nib file containing these elements. (ContactHeaderView.xib) Then in the viewDidLoad of ContactDetailViewController I've loaded this nib as the headerView. See implementation file below: #import "ContactDetailViewController.h" #import "DisplayInfoViewController.h" #import "ActionViewController.h" @implementation ContactDetailViewController @synthesize name; @synthesize date; @synthesize nextAction; @synthesize nameLabel; @synthesize usernameLabel; @synthesize nextActionTextField; @synthesize dateLabel; @synthesize contactInfoButton; @synthesize backgroundInfoButton; @synthesize actionDoneButton; - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; } - (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning { // Releases the view if it doesn't have a superview. [super didReceiveMemoryWarning]; // Release any cached data, images, etc that aren't in use. } - (void)viewDidUnload { // Release any retained subviews of the main view. // e.g. self.myOutlet = nil; } #pragma mark Table view methods - (NSInteger)numberOfSectionsInTableView:(UITableView *)tableView { return 1; } // Customize the number of rows in the table view. - (NSInteger)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView numberOfRowsInSection:(NSInteger)section { return 3; } - (UIView *) tableView:(UITableView *)tableView viewForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section { if (section == 0){ UIViewController *chv = [[[UIViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"ContactHeaderView" bundle:nil] autorelease]; // self.nameLabel.text = self.name; return chv.view; }else{ return nil; } } - (CGFloat)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView heightForHeaderInSection:(NSInteger)section{ return 300.0; } // Customize the appearance of table view cells. - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleDefault reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; } // Set up the cell... return cell; } - (void)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView didSelectRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { // Navigation logic may go here. ParentViewController *parentController = [[ParentViewController alloc] init]; ChildViewController *childController = [[ChildViewController alloc] init]; [parentController containerAddChildViewController:childController]; [[self window] setRootViewController:parentController]; - (void)containerAddChildViewController:(UIViewController *)childViewController { [self addChildViewController:childViewController]; [self.view addSubview:childViewController.view]; // Instruments is telling me, the leak occurs here! [childViewController didMoveToParentViewController:self]; } According to Instruments, this line: [self.view addSubview:childViewController.view]; is leaking. The whole code is called once in application:didFinishLaunchingWithOptions:, but it is shown that this code is responsible for 30 leaks (approx. 1.12 kB).

  • Ruby Metaprogramming

    - by VP
I'm trying to write a DSL that allows me to do Policy.name do author "Foo" reviewed_by "Bar" end The following code can almost process it: class Policy include Singleton def self.method_missing(name,&block) puts name puts "#{yield}" end def self.author(name) puts name end def self.reviewed_by(name) puts name end end Defining my method as class methods (self.method_name) i can access it using the following syntax: Policy.name do Policy.author "Foo" Policy.reviewed_by "Bar" end If i remove the "self" from the method names, and try to use my desired syntax, then i receive an error "Method not Found" in the Main so it could not find my function until the module Kernel. Its ok, i understand the error. But how can i fix it? How can i fix my class to make it work with my desired syntax that?

  • difference in logging mechanism: API and application(python)

    - by zubin71
I am currently writing an API and an application which uses the API. I have gotten suggestions from people stating that I should perform logging using handlers in the application and use a "logger" object for logging from the API. In light of the advice I received above, is the following implementation correct? class test: def __init__(self, verbose): self.logger = logging.getLogger("test") self.logger.setLevel(verbose) def do_something(self): # do something self.logger.log("something") # by doing this i get the error message "No handlers could be found for logger "test" The implementation i had in mind was as follows: #!/usr/bin/python """ .... .... create a logger with a handler .... .... """ myobject = test() try: myobject.do_something() except SomeError: logger.log("cant do something") Id like to get my basics strong, id be grateful for any help and suggestions for code you might recommend I look up. Thnkx!

  • How to do call function after client finishes download from tornado web server?

    - by Shabbyrobe
I would like to be able to run some cleanup functions if and only if the client successfully completes the download of a file I'm serving using Tornado. I installed the firefox throttle tool and had it slow the connection down to dialup speed and installed this handler to generate a bunch of rubbish random text: class CrapHandler(BaseHandler): def get(self, token): crap = ''.join(random.choice(string.ascii_uppercase + string.digits) for x in range(100000)) self.write(crap) print "done" I get the following output from tornado immediately after making the request: done I 100524 19:45:45 web:772] 200 GET /123 (192.168.45.108) 195.10ms The client then plods along downloading for about 20 seconds. I expected that it would print "done" after the client was done. Also, if I do the following I get pretty much the same result: class CrapHandler(BaseHandler): @tornado.web.asynchronous def get(self, token): crap = ''.join(random.choice(string.ascii_uppercase + string.digits) for x in range(100000)) self.write(crap) self.finish() print "done" Am I missing something fundamental here? Can tornado even support what I'm trying to do? If not, is there an alternative that does?

  • Problem with setContentBorderThickness:forEdge: not actually setting the value

    - by jxpx777
I'm trying to use setContentBorderThickness:forEdge: to create a bottom bar in a Cocoa application. mipadi was on to something, but in testing it out, I think maybe this is a slightly different problem: -(void) adjustContentBorderBasedOnArrayControllerSelection{ if(([[self.resultsArrayController selectionIndexes] count] == 0)){ [[self window] setContentBorderThickness:40.0f forEdge:CGRectMinYEdge]; NSLog(@"%f", [[self window] contentBorderThicknessForEdge:CGRectMinYEdge]); } else { [[self window] setContentBorderThickness:60.0f forEdge:CGRectMinYEdge]; NSLog(@"%f", [[self window] contentBorderThicknessForEdge:CGRectMinYEdge]); } } Both of those NSLog() messages show the thickness value is 0.0 even after I explicitly set it. Anyone know what's up with that?
