  • UIWebView in multithread ViewController

    I have a UIWebView in a viewcontroller, which has two methods as below. The question is if I pop out(tap back on navigation bar) this controller before the second thread is done, the app will crash after [super dealloc], because "Tried to obtain the web lock from a thread other than the main thread or the web thread. This may be a result of calling to UIKit from a secondary thread.". This is important too: I added both /*const*/s and reformatted the code. Now, we get back to the topic: I can't think of a sane use of the equality operator that lets you modify its by-ref arguments.   • How to unmangle exported symbols from C++ in dynamic libraries in XCode on OSX

    I've been trying to develop a dynamic library in C++ that can be run-time loaded in an application. I finally got it working, but it's a little ugly. I have a function that takes a pointer to a C++ class as an argument, which looks like this: bool registerGrindPlugin( Grind::PluginManager* mgr ); But of course it's being exported as: _Z19registerGrindPluginPN5Grind13PluginManagerE I tried a .c file with a simple function and it exported fine as "registerGrindPlugin", but of course I can't pass a C++ class as the argument that way. Soo... my question is, is there a way to unmangle or alias the exported symbol so that I don't have to use a monstrosity like Z19registerGrindPluginPN5Grind13PluginManagerE in my dlsym call? I did see something about -alias_list as a linker option, but I haven't quite figured out how to use it in XCode. If that is the solution, can somebody provide some more details on how to use this?

Why is this necessary? Is there a way to suppress this? Thanks! Edit: This code tested on x86 machine with g++ version 4.1.2. If you wish to run it on a 64-bit machine, you'll have to change at least the line return malloc(24). Changing to return malloc(48) should work.

I got this code from some old linux source that I'm trying to compile on Windows. Any idea what the issue is?

  • compiler warning on (ambiguous) method resolution with named parameters

    One question regarding whether the following code should yield a compiler warning or not (it doesn't). It declares two methods of the same name/return type, one has an additional named/optional parameter with default value. NOTE: technically the resolution isn't ambiguous, because the rules clearly state that the first method will get called. See here, Overload resolution, third bullet point. This behavior is also intuitive to me, no question. public void Foo(int arg) { ... } public void Foo(int arg, bool bar = true) { ...} Foo(42); // shouldn't this give a compiler warning? I think a compiler warning would be kind of intuitive here. Though the code technically is clean (whether it is a sound design is a different question:)).

    I've subclassed NSCollectionView and I'm trying to receive dragged files from the Finder. I'm receiving draggingEntered: and returning an appropriate value, but I'm never receiving prepareForDragOperation: (nor any of the methods after that in the process). Is there something obvious I'm missing here?     Hello all, I have a program which creates DialogBox window when user clicks the menu item from tray icon, case ID_OPTIONS: DialogBox ( GetModuleHandle ( NULL ), MAKEINTRESOURCE ( IDD_SETUP_DIALOG ), hWnd, reinterpret_cast<DLGPROC>(SetupDlgProc) ); return 0; But the problem here is everytime when users clicks item from tray , a new instance of the dialogbox appears. Is there anyway to prevent this multiple instance ?   • Cannot figure out how to get rid of memory leak

    I'm trying to test for memory leaks in my iphone and I'm not having much luck getting rid of this one. The self.settingManager instance variable is released in the dealloc method of the class. I'm not sure what other information would be pertinent. Please let me know and I can provide it.     I was worried about C#'s speed when it deals with heavy calculations, when you need to use raw CPU power. I always thought that C++ is much faster than C# when it comes to calculations. So I did some quick tests. The first test computes prime numbers < an integer n, the second test computes some pandigital numbers. I didn't touch any compiler switches and bot C# and C++ programs were compiled with debug options. Before I attempted to run the test I was worried that C# will lag well behind C++, but now it seems that there is a pretty big speed difference in C# favor. Can anybody explain this?     I am trying to create a Validation in a reusable fashion. Purpose: Make the validation control reusable. Error Provider should associate with control passed dynamically and can be set or cleared at run time.     I have designed a multithreaded app, which is starting most windows in an dedicated thread like this: Thread newWindowThread = new Thread(new ThreadStart(ThreadStartingPoint)); newWindowThread.SetApartmentState(ApartmentState.STA); newWindowThread.IsBackground = true; newWindowThread.Start(); However, if in one of those window-in-own-thread I try to print something by simply calling PrintDialog pDialog = new PrintDialog(); bool? doPrint = pDialog.ShowDialog(); I get a TargetInvocationException - it does look like the PrintDialog does not reside in the same thread as my window. Is there any way to create a thread-agnostic (or "thread-save") PrinterDialog ?
