• Wireless Internet Connection Sharing in Ubuntu

  As the title states, I need to share a wireless connection with a laptop running Ubuntu as the AP. The setup will be as follows: Corporate WiFi <<== Laptop <<== Other Devices i.e. (iPad, iPhone) I want to be able to connect the "Other Devices" via WiFi to the laptop. I have thought of setting up an ad-hoc network by connecting to the Corporate WiFi and then setting up a new network and hoping the connection to both would stay, but that doesn't seem to work. If I set up the ad-hoc network by itself, I can see it from my "Other Devices". The reason I need this is because for some reason, my iPad and my iPhone will not connect to my corporate WiFi and I need to use them so I want to use my laptop to share the connection and act as an AP for my "Other Devices". My laptop is a Chrome CR-48 running Ubuntu and as some of you might know, it does not have an ethernet port, so having a wired connecting and then setting up a network is out of question. I want to connect to the Corporate WiFi and share that connection by having the laptop act as an AP for other devices.

  I have issue with yahoo.co.uk if I send a mail from within the yahoo webconsole the mail arrives in my inbox on the exchange server If I send mail from Iphone configure to send via mail box configure with yahoo setting mail is dropped. • Installing WiFi in a church for internet access

  Hi, a colleague at work asked this question: My local church want to get WiFi enabled in the whole of their offices and main church building. The offices and main building are in the same overall structure and so the signal does not need to travel outside to any other buildings outside this main structure. Where would I start on such a project and what kind of repeaters are needed (and how are they set up) given that some of the walls are pretty thick. Do you still have one ADSL line coming in to router or are there some options of having two lines coming in so that they isn't a single point of failure. Am looking at fibre for the broadband for increased speed. Any starting pointers appreciated.

  Why do we make DNS requests separately when an ISP could also be handling the DNS request along with HTTP data simultaneously. So rather than: Ask opendns what yahoos address is. Opendns returns: 66.55.44.11 Hey, Verizon. Send/Request data from 66.55.44.11. Why wouldn't the protocol just request data from "yahoo.com" and verizon interprets the yahoo.com as a split DNS request. This would lower latency for sure as it cuts out the time required for the dns server to call back the IP to then be sent AGAIN when it could just be handling the entire request theoretically. Couldn't this be managed via a host file change on the client side and make compatible servers?? So much like a proxy.

• Increasing link speed on OpenVPN (bandwidth)

  I have bought a tunnel service by using OpenVPN. For a year I've had 10 Mbps max upload/download speed but now I've bought an additional 20 Mbps making the available total bandwidth 30 Mbps for me. On their homepage there are some controls available for me, for example to restart the tunnel. I've done that. It also says that the speed has indeed been upgraded to 30 Mbps on their page. I also got an email that said they have upgraded the speed. However after I reboot my machine, and OpenVPN has started up and is running as usual, when I look at the Windows Task Manager (opens when pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ESC) in the "Networking" tab I still have a link speed of only 10 Mbps. Two adapters are listed: Local Area Connection 4 (10 Mbps) and Local Area Connection 5 (100 Mbps). LAC5 is my "real" adapter, I have a 100 Mbps Internet connection if I don't use a tunnel. LAC3 is the virtual adapter used by OpenVPN. The problem is that it is still showing 10 Mbps even though I have upgraded to 30 Mbps. How can I fix this?

So my idea is to start a Flash stream, let it run to completion no matter how long it takes, and then view the temporary .swf file. I've discovered the location of my Google Chrome temporary files. However, there is no file type associated with these files. Therefore, I'm wondering if the idea above will work, and how can I retrieve only .swf files?

  I have been trying for hours to find any info on how to reconnect to a pptp vpn automatically. In windows 7 there was an option to auto reconnect and how many redial attempts ect.. I can not find that in windows 8. Have they removed it? Are they going to add this functionality? I have to have my vpn connected for long periods unattended. This is a deal breaker for me I will be going back to windows 7 if I can not find a solution. Thanks for your time..

• OS X Snow Leopard 10.6 Refuses to Load Websites the first time intermittently

  Many times when I am browsing the web, Snow Leopard will sit and load a site for 20 seconds or more, until it times out and says it cannot be displayed. If I refresh, it loads RIGHT away, every time. The issue is intermittent but happens from once every couple of days to a few times a day. So the long and short of it is this: Aluminum MacBook (Non-Pro) 2.4GHz Core2Duo, 4GB DDR3 I am using 10.6.6 but I have had this issue since 10.6.0 It happens in Firefox, Chrome, and Safari I have flushed my DNS (using the command 'blablabla flush') I am using custom DNS servers which I hoped would fix it but it had no effect* I am running Apache currently but haven't been for most of the time I've reformatted multiple times, always experiencing the issue I am on Cox cable internet, with a Motorola Surfboard & a Belkin F6D4230-4 v1 (Pre?) N wireless router. I've put the router in G only & N only & G+N to no effect It seems to be domain dependant as I can sometimes load the Google cache right away, and sometimes other sites will load but Google will refuse My Powerbook G4 with Leopard, other Windows XP laptops, & my wired Win7 desktop do not suffer from the issue. *I recently started using these to escape the awful Cox redirect page on timeouts I'm almost positive the issue has happened on other networks but I can't recall a specific instance (I have a terrible memory). The problem is intermittent and fixable enough (I just have to wait until it times out and hit refresh one time) but incredibly annoying since I'm constantly reading documentation from a large variety of sites. EDIT: To clarify, this happens with ALL sites, not only specific sites. I haven't been able to detect any pattern to the failures, but one day Google.com will refuse to load while reddit.com will, and the next day vice versa. Keep in mind that waiting for a timeout and hitting refresh loads the page right away, every time. If I don't wait for the timeout, opening more links, hitting refresh, and clicking the link a billion times have no effect. It seems to be domain neutral, affecting sites seemingly at random. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with connection inactivity either, because I will be SSHed into different servers, uploading files, browsing, downloading, etc, and it will just quit loading Jquery.com (for example) until I sit and wait for a timeout. /EDIT This is my last resort. Please, someone, tell me what is happening. Thank you.

• Why can I view my site over a 3G connection but not through my wifi?

  So, I am sitting in my office with four computers on the same network and internet connection. Two of the computers can visit this particular website. Two of the computer get a message "Google Chrome could not find". I have tried FF and IE also with the same problem. I can view the site 90% of the time on two of the working computers although the site seems slow and sometimes I also get the same errors as the other two computers. I have flushed the DNS, reset the router, tested the site on other peoples computers with success. Is this likely to be a site issue, an ISP issue, a hosting issue? Any advice is greatly appreciated. • Anti-virus protection question?

  About 4 years ago, I found Kaspersky and have been using the most current version since. Most people try and argue the use of AVG or Avast to me, and there are some very solid reasons I do not go that route. Over the years, I have found Kasp to become bulkier and bulkier, and have had issues setting it up for friends/family/clients. I am just curios on possible recommendations from other users, with my criteria in mind: What I like about Kasp in the past: The license sold in stores in a 3 pack, is considered a commercial license, and emails from Kasp in response to my questions, make it clear that I can do with the 3 licenses that I want, providing I do not use more than 3 installs per Key. So, allowed me to buy 3, 5, and 7 packs, and resell to users at a cheaper cost than what they would pay if they bought their own license. The ability to easily obtain a currently updated .exe for installation on multiple peoples machines. Power of the scan. Kasp has been a good solution for me (even when using a trial license) on cleaning up machines that were badly infected (in which AVG and AVAST were unable to.) Speed of install/update. After a cleanup of malwarebytes, spybot, mcafee stinger, ccleaner, and combofix, I used to be able to get Kasp Int Security installed and updated in around 5 minutes. The issues that I have with the free AV, is strength of protection. In my opinion for someone who is a 'power use' these are good alternatives, because such a user should be trained or knowledgeable enough to be careful and not get themselves in trouble. Most of the users I assist, are too PC ignorant to know any better, and go hogwild on the web. It has been my experience that the number of people coming back to me with spyware/malware/virus issues since I have converted from AVG to Kasp has been cut down to around 20% of what it used to be 4 or 5 years ago. In a perfect world, I could install and use Kasp Internet Security 2008, and be very happy. But this is not the case anymore. So after this long description of what I used, and have used, does anyone have any good recommendations on AV that isn't going to cost me too much per install?

  I am on a team of three people who are developing a Silverlight application. On two of our developers' machines the app seems to randomly crash. It never crashes on the third developer's machine. The nature of the crash is that internet explorer just dies with an "Internet Explorer has stopped working" message. How should I go about debugging this problem? I'm not really sure where to start.

  I'm writing a small C# application that will use Internet Explorer to interact with a couple a websites, with help from WatiN. However, it will also require from time to time to use a proxy. I've came across Programmatically Set Browser Proxy Settings in C#, but this only enables me to enter a proxy address, and I also need to enter a Proxy username and password. How can I do that? Note: It doesn't matter if a solution changes the entire system Internet settings. However, I would prefer to change only IE proxy settings (for any connection). The solution has to work with IE8 and Windows XP SP3 or higher. I'd like to have the possibility to read the Proxy settings first, so that later I can undo my changes. EDIT With the help of the Windows Registry accessible through Microsoft.Win32.RegistryKey, i was able to apply a proxy something like this: RegistryKey registry = Registry.CurrentUser.OpenSubKey("Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Internet Settings", true); registry.SetValue("ProxyEnable", 1); registry.SetValue("ProxyServer", "127.0.0.1:8080"); But how can i specify a username and a password to login at the proxy server? I also noticed that IE doesn't refresh the Proxy details for its connections once the registry was changed how can i order IE to refresh its connection settings from the registry? Thanks

• Iframe form not submittin in IE but working in Firefox

  I have got a form that posts values to a page in a wizard. When i'm loading this form in a Iframe everything is working fine in Firefox, it will get me to the second step of the wizard and maintains the values i filled in. When im testing this in Internet Explorer i am not getting to the second step, instead of that it returns me to the first step of the wizard with all fields being blank. When i check this in Fiddler i see that im getting a different response when i'm posting the form in the Iframe from Firefox compared to Internet Explorer. How can i make this work for all browsers? What am I doing wrong? • IE not rendering div contents

  I've written an app using HTML 5 and I wan't to show an error box instead of the page when someone visits from IE. When it detects navigator.appName as Microsoft Internet Explorer it hides everything and shows the error div that started out hidden. • How to stop Android GPS using "Mobile data"

  My app requests location updates with "minTime" set to 2 seconds. When "Mobile data" is switched on (in the phone's settings) and GPS is enabled the app uses "mobile data" at between 5 and 10 megabytes per hour. This is recorded in the ICS "Data usage" screen as usage by "Android OS". In an attempt to prevent this I have unticked Settings-"Location services"-"Google's location service". Does this refer to Assisted GPS, or is it something more than that? Whatever it is, it seems to make no difference to my app's internet access. As further confirmation that it is the GPS usage by my app that is causing the mobile data access I have observed that the internet data activity indicator on the status bar shows activity when and only when the GPS indicator is present. The only way to prevent this mobile data usage seems to be to switch "Mobile data" off, and GPS accuracy seems to be almost as good without the support of mobile data. However, it is obviously unsatisfactory to have to switch mobile data off. The only permissions in the Manifest are "android.permission.ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION" (and "android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE"), so the app has no explicit permission to use internet data. The LocationManager code is ` criteria.setAccuracy(Criteria.ACCURACY_FINE); criteria.setSpeedRequired(false); criteria.setAltitudeRequired(false); criteria.setBearingRequired(true); criteria.setCostAllowed(false); criteria.setPowerRequirement(Criteria.NO_REQUIREMENT); bestProvider = lm.getBestProvider(criteria, true); if (bestProvider != null) { lm.requestLocationUpdates(bestProvider, gpsMinTime, gpsMinDistance, this); ` The reference for LocationManager.getBestProvider says If no provider meets the criteria, the criteria are loosened ... WSATIMEDOUT is always returned (not connection refused, so its not a port problem). It makes me believe something is wrong with the IP but why on earth can it work on local addresses (like 192.168.2.4) Any ideas? Cheers

• How to get the recently viewed pictures on the web browser?

  I want to retrieve the recently viewed pictures from IE. I know that all the files from IE exist in the internet temporary directory, commonly with the path like "C:\Documents and Settings[account]\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files". Here something strange for me comes. I wrote a program of C++ to retrieve the directory above, and the result says it contains three subdirectories and one file. These subdirectories are Content.IE5, OIS, and OLK145, each contains lots of pictures, which I think are the ones I browsed recently on the web. The only file is desktop.ini, which is not my concern. However, when I open the directory in the file system, there are no subdirectories at all, but a lot of files, different from the ones in the subdirectories retrieved by the program. I have several questions. Frist of all, why the content of the temorary internet files seems different? Which is the actual situation about the directory? Second, I found that in filesystem explorer, the files in the directory seem like some link to the ones on the web, not physically exist on my computer, is this true? Finally, how can I get the pictures viewed from IE recently with C++, as well as their original url?

• Troubleshooting Website problems within the local network

  Have an external website which opens fine on some PC's, yet seems to time out (or symptoms of timing out, but never actually does) on others. Seems to only affect (some) of our newer HP Pro 3305 MT Workstations. All of which are running Win7 32bit SP1 with all updates. Older PC's (Win7 32bit SP1 & WinXP) are unaffected. Using Google Chrome & Firefox makes no difference. Opening the website in IE9 Compatibility Mode has exactly the same symptoms. All PC's are on the same local network (Workgroup) using the same DNS server & gateway (inhouse) on the same internet connection, on the same subnet. There is no proxy server, no content filtering, no load balancing etc etc. Only group policy in effect (locally) is for Update scheduling. Local firewalls are all the same (Kaspersky WP4) and our external facing firewall has no IP specific settings. I have no control over the external website, traceroute shows the same destination on all PC's. It is a fairly popular website in our industry (Horticulture) and i'm not aware of any other people (even other sites within our sister companies) with the same problem. Update: Used Fiddler2 to monitor the HTTP request, seems its not getting fulfilled for some reason?! • 401 Using Multiple Authentication methods IE 10 only

  I am not sure if this is more of a coding issue or server setup issue so I've posted it on stackoverflow and here... On our production site we've run into an issue that is specific to Internet Explorer 10. I am using jQuery doing an ajax POST to a web service on the same domain and in IE10 I am getting a 401 response, IE9 works perfectly fine. I should mention that we have mirrored code in another area of our site and it works perfectly fine in IE10. The only difference between the two areas is that one is under a subdomain and the other is at the root level. www.my1stdomain.com vs. portal.my2nddomain.com The directory structure on the server for these are: \my1stdomain\webservice\name\service.aspx \portal\webservice\name\service.aspx Inside of the \portal\ and \my1stdomain\ folders I have a page that does an ajax call, both pages are identical. $.ajax({ type: 'POST', url: '/webservice/name/service.aspx/function', cache: false, contentType: 'application/json; charset=utf-8', dataType: 'json', data: '{ "json": "data" }', success: function() { }, error: function() { } }); I've verified permissions are the same on both folders on the server side. I've applied a workaround fix of placing the <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" value="IE=9"> to force compatibility view (putting IE into compatibility mode fixes the issue). This seems to be working in IE10 on Windows 7, however IE 10 on Windows 8 still sees the same issue. These pages are classic asp with the headers that are being included, also there are no other meta tags being used. The doctype is being specified as <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> on the portal page and <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> on the main domain. When I hit F12 or use menu Tools - Developer Tools I get the Developer Tools entry in the Task Bar but the actual window will not show up. It has been running fine for a month or so. I have tried rebooting with no luck.
