• MATLAB - Delete elements of binary files without loading entire file

  This may be a stupid question, but Google and MATLAB documentation have failed me. I have a rather large binary file (10 GB) that I need to open and delete the last forty million bytes or so. Is there a way to do this without reading the entire file to memory in chunks and printing it out to a new file? It took 6 hours to generate the file, so I'm cringing at the thought of re-reading the whole thing. EDIT: The file is 14,440,000,000 bytes in size. I need to chop it to 14,400,000,000.

• Loading dictionary for input method suggestion list

  Hi, For various reasons, i'm trying to write my own input keyboard. So far all is going well except that of creating the suggestions. I've found the latinIME algorithm, which is all good. However i'm having major difficulty working out how to load the dictionary in the first place. I've had a good look round the net, and found various suggestions, but no definitive answers, and i cant seem to get any of them to work.   I am configuring Rails with MongoDB, and find a strange problem when paring config/mongo.yml file. config/mongo.yml is generated by executing script/rails generate mongo_mapper:config, and it looks like following: defaults: &defaults host: 127.0.0.1 port: 27017 development: <<: *defaults database: tc_web_development test: <<: *defaults database: tc_web_test From the config file we can see the objects development and test should both have a database field. But when it is parsed and loaded in config/initializers/mongo.db, config = YAML::load(File.read(Rails.root.join('config/mongo.yml'))) puts config.inspect MongoMapper.setup(config, Rails.env) the strange thing comes: the output of puts config.inspect is {"defaults"=>{"host"=>"127.0.0.1", "port"=>27017}, "development"=>{"host"=>"127.0.0.1", "port"=>27017}, "test"=>{"host"=>"127.0.0.1", "port"=>27017}} which does not contain database attribute. But when I execute the same statements in a plain ruby console, instead of using rails console, mongo.yml is parsed in a right way. {"defaults"=>{"host"=>"127.0.0.1", "port"=>27017}, "development"=>{"host"=>"127.0.0.1", "port"=>27017, "database"=>"tc_web_development"}, "test"=>{"host"=>"127.0.0.1", "port"=>27017, "database"=>"tc_web_test"}} I am wondering what may be the cause of this problem.   Hello, A bunch of my JavaScript code is in an external file called helpers.js. Inside the HTML that calls this JavaScript code I find myself in need of knowing if a certain function from helpers.js has been called. I have attempted to create a global variable by defining: var myFunctionTag = true; In global scope both in my HTML code and in helpers.js. Heres what my html code looks like: <html> ... <script type='text/javascript' src='js/helpers.js'></script> ... <script> var myFunctionTag = false; ... //I try to use myFunctionTag here but it is always false, even though it has been se t to 'true' in helpers.js </script> Is what I am trying to do even doable? • getResourceAsStream not loading resource

  The project that I am currently working on utilizes an old application contained within a .jar file. One of the responsibilities of this application is that it updates the database when changes to the configuration files are made. Every time I try to run this file (which is a simple Ant Task extension), I get an exception thrown early in the process. I decompiled the Java file responsible, and found that the exception being thrown happens here. I do not know what the issue is, as "hibernate.cfg.xml" is contained within the same .jar file as the .class throwing the exception. ClassLoader loader = Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader(); InputStream in = loader.getResourceAsStream("hibernate.cfg.xml"); if (in == null) { throw new RuntimeException("Couldn't find built in hibernate config"); } If anyone has any ideas, even pointing me in the right direction, I would be grateful. Of course, any solution will have to be external, as the client already has this build of the program in production use.

  int userHP = 100; int enemyHP = rand() % ((userHP - 50) - (userHP - 75)) + 1; okay, for some reason this doesnt seem to work right, im trying to get 50 -25 hp for enemys. also id rather it be a percentage... like int enemyHP = rand() % ((userHP / 50%) - (userHP / 75%)) + 1; but id like to stick with integers and not mess with floats or doubles... can someone help me?

I had planned to open the file and mysql_query it a line at a time - until I looked at the schema files and realised they aren't just one query per line.   I have a website which works fine in all browsers except in IE6. The pages content is inside a div loaded with a background image. The page layout gets very nasty and image does not load when the page is opened for first time, but when the same page is opened for the second time and any subsequent times, then it loads perfectly. This scenario is with every page in the site. Please help.

  I am using a dynamic model found on the forum of sencha. function modelFactory(name, fields) { alert(fields); return Ext.define(name, { extend: 'Ext.data.Model', fields: fields }); } I placed the alert(fields) to check what happens with the field because it was not working.   I have a database that consists of 5 tables : Course, Category, Location, CourseCategories, and CourseLocations. The last 2 tables just contain the two foreign keys. A Course has many-to-many relationships with both category and location. I am trying to load the data into a Silverlight app using Ria Services. My DB model is Linq-to-SQL. I have tried adding the [Include] attribute to the metadata classes and I have added the DataLoadOptions so it should load the all tables when you ask for a Course. However on the client side I am never getting back any entries in the CourseCategories and CourseLocations properties. What else needs to be done to get the foreign key relationships to exist across the serialization.

This, however: il.Emit(OpCodes.Ldarg_0); il.Emit(OpCodes.Stloc_0); il.Emit(OpCodes.Ldloc_0); il.Emit(OpCodes.Ret); Does not work. It crashes with the exception "Operation could destabilize the runtime.". Now, I know that the purpose of that is useless but I'm trying to reach my goal by small steps. Why does that not work?

  Hi there I have set up my coldfusion application to have dynamic urls on the page, such as www.musicExplained/index.cfm/artist/:VariableName However my variable names will sometimes contain slashes, such as www.musicExplained/index.cfm/artist/GZA/Genius This is causing a problem, because my application presumes that the slash in the variable name represents a different section of the website, the artists albums. So the URL will fail. I am wondering if there is anyway to prevent this from happening? Do I need to use a function that replaces slashes in the variable names with another character? Thanks

  Hello, I want to pass an environment variable in linux to apache on start up. export MYVAR=5 --I define my environment variable on the command line PassEnv MYVAR --set apache to import the variable in apache config file apachectl restart --when I restart apache I don't get an error message. However I have noticed that if I do not create the environment variable in my first step, I get a warning message, so must be working here echo $_SERVER['MYVAR'] --i try to access the environment variable within PHP but it is not defined I've observed that if I try to PassEnv an environment variable that already exits (one that I havn't created myself) it works fine. The SetEnv directive also works fine. I'd really like to pass an environment variable to apache on the fly without writing it in a file. Help much appreciated. I'm using CentOS, PHP5 and Apache2. • Module Adminhtml blocks not loading

  I was working on a Magento module and it was working fine. At some point, I was trying to enable WYSIWYG in an edit form 'content' field and suddenly, my adminhtml grid and edit blocks stopped being generated. On my system are TinyMCE and Fontis FCKEditor WYSIWYG editors extensions. I'm not sure what I did wrong but my adminhtml blocks will no longer generate.
