We have chosen to implement the VWG Sites parser as a different way to create CLR code that provides greater performance over the reflection alternative. VWG Sites will also be the first server side XAML UI engine which, while giving the power of XAML, it will not require any plug-ins or installations on the client side.   I've been a PHP web developer for about 2 and a half years now. I have started using CodeIgniter framework to shorten development process a while ago. I developed 4 websites using CodeIgniter. It has been really tiring and boring due to code-repetition. Code repetition was vast on form handling functions in controllers.So in my last project , i developed a general form input handling function.This lead a realisation that it could get even faster by more automation. What i think i lack in my development is using CRUD & Code Generation tools. But i am wondering if there is any other utilities that shortens development process. Which web development language or framework more inclined towards code generation utilities?

• server 2008 r2 - wbadmin systemstatebackup - system writer not found in the backup

  I am trying to manually run a systemstatebackup command on my server 2008 r2 box and I am getting an error code '2155347997' when I view the backup event log details. The command line tells me that I have log files written to the c:\windows\logs\windowsserverbackup\ path but I have no files of the .log type there. My command window tells me "System Writer is not found in the backup". However when I run vssadmin list writers I find System Writer in the list and it shows normal status with no last errors stored. I am running this from an elevated command prompt as well as from a logged on administrator account. My backup target path has permission for network service to have full control and it has plenty of free space. Looking in eventlog I have two VSS error 8194 that happen immediately before the Backup error 517 which has the errorcode 2155347997 listed. All three of these errors are a result of trying to run the command for the systemstatebackup. It's my belief that some VSS related permission is failing and exiting the backup process before it ever gets started. Because of this the initial code that creates the log files must not be running and this is why I have no files. When running the systemstatebackup command from the command prompt and watching the windowsserverbackup directory I do see that I have a Wbadmin.0.etl file which gets created but it is deleted when the backup errors out and stops. I have looked online and there are numerous opinions as to the cause of this error. These are the things I have corrected to try and fix this issue before posting here: Machine runs a HP 1410i smart array controller but at one time also used a LSI scsi card. Used networkadminkb.com's kb# a467 to find one LSI_SCSI entry in HKLMSysCurrentControlSetServices which start was set to 0x0 and I modified to 0x3. No changes. In HKLMSystemCurrentControlSetServicesVSSDiag I gave network service full control where it previously only had "Special Permission". No changes. I followed KB2009272 to manually try to fix system writer. These are all of the things I have tried. What else should I look at to resolve this issue? It may be important to note that I run Mozy Pro on this server and that was known in the past to use VSS for copying operations and it occasionally threw an error. However since an update last year those error event log entries have stopped.

• SharePoint Web Analytics not tracking usage for main application

  My SP 2010 setup is two separate applications - one for the main portal and one for MySite. Whilst WebAnalytics is tracking usage of MySite it's not showing any stats for the main Portal. The only thing it lists is the number of site collections but no page views etc. The WA service is clearly running to pick up data for MySite. In Configure web analytics and health data collection everything is ticked. I can't find any obvious settings that are different between the two applications. Where should I look to get usage tracking correctly?

  Have two web servers, development/staging and production. Code and some documentation is moved from the staging area to production either through on-demand jobs or nightly via a global replication job. The production server of course sits isolated in a DMZ. There is some content that gets uploaded to the live server that needs to be replicated back to staging. Our security team is locking the network down (and they should) and restricting access to the live server. Best suggestions for replication of "live" data back to "stage" and backing up the live server also.

• Setting up port forwarding for web server

  This could belong on Super User, but I thought this place was more appropiate. I want to run Apache in my computer and want to make it available to the outside world to test a couple things. Apparently, I have to go into my router's (a TP-LINK TD 8910G) settings and forward port 80 to my PC's IP. So far so good. Thing is, since the router uses a web based interface and it's kind of stupid, it told me that since I was using port 80 for this, I should access its settings through port 8080. Maybe it can't detect requests coming from the LAN, I don't know. Point is, now neither port can't access the configuration, and I can't access Internet. Specifically, trying to access anything (including 192.168.1.1, the router's settings) through port 80 turns up a blank page (maybe if I had the server running in my computer I'd get something, but I don't want to risk trying, I had to reset the router and restore the settings), and port 8080 gives a "Can't establish connection" error in Firefox (and similar ones in other browsers). Is there a way to configure the router to not redirect requests coming from inside the network? I'm a beginner with this stuff, so please try to explain in a simple way. If this is more appropiate in Super User, I'm sorry.

  Hello guys... I have seen 2-3 ERPs in action. I am wondering what is better. Desktop based application or webbased displayed on a browser. My first expirience was with a web based ERP when i was 14 years old.. It was web based and terribly slow... For most simple task you had to do lots of clicks... no keyboard support ..... Pages took ages to load. Last year i worked for migrating to a newer computer some old terminal based cobol application. The computer that worked till today and still has no problem was from 1993. The user interface ofcourse was textbased.. The speed that guys placed orders was amazing! just typing the name of the customer , then 5-10 keys to add a product to order.... Comparing to this ERP the page for placing orders Link (click sales orders) seems terribly slow to add a product... No keyboard shortcut works to save what you added and generally i believe you need 4 times more time to place an order compared to the text interface... Having to use both mouse and keyboard for this task is BAD and sadistic... So how can tek heck these people ever use a system like that ??? So in the long run desktop application seems the only way... Ofcourse browsers support shortcuts but the way to overide the defaults that browsers uses isnt cross compatible... That is a hudge problem. Finnaly, if we MUST/forced use cloud in near future what about keyboard shortcuts?? I feel confused... I have seen converters of desktop applications to browser applications but are SLOW as hell... The question is what about user friendliness?What kind of application would you use?

• Recommendations for a web-based help system

  Hi Experts, I'm putting together a fairly large GUI. I'm a tech person, but more on the hardware side, not software. I'm wondering what software package would be best suited to enable me to generate a web-based help-system. Preferably it takes care of a lot of coding, allowing me to focus on the content. For example, the user would click on a link in the GUI when they have a question, that brings them to a web-based Help Guide, for example, providing an overview of how to use the GUI, perhaps a searchable index (key-word based index), table of contents, etc, for navigating through the Help Guide. My first thought was to program everything in XHTML using Dreamweaver, but my layout requirements are fairly modest (just figures and text, maybe a few equations), and I'd prefer not to spend a lot of time concentrating on the programming. Was wondering if any software existed that made generating web-based navigatable pages easy to create/publish. Again, I'm not really a programmer, so if there's something obvious out there, I'm probably not aware of it. Any advice much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

• Designing web-based plugin systems correctly so they don't waste as many resources?

  Many CMS systems which rely on third parties for much of their code often build "plugin" or "hooks" systems to make it easy for developers to modify the codebase's actions without editing the core files. This usually means an Observer or Event design pattern. However, when you look at systems like wordpress you see that on every page they load some kind of bootstrap file from each of the plugin's folders to see if that plugin will need to run that request. Its this poor design that causes systems like wordpress to spend many extra MB's of memory loading and parsing unneeded items each page. Are there alternative ways to do this? I'm looking for ideas in building my own. For example, Is there a way to load all this once and then cache the results so that your system knows how to lazy-load plugins? In other words, the system loads a configuration file that specifies all the events that plugin wishes to tie into and then saves it for future requests? If that also performs poorly, then perhaps there is a special file-structure that could be used to make educated guesses about when certain plugins are unneeded to fullfil the request. Any ideas?   Hi We need to set up a website which makes two or three large files publicly available - the files will be 1 or 2 terrabytes each. Although they will be public, in practise I expect only a relatively small number of scientists will want to download them. What is the best way to allow this? I've had a quick talk to a web-hosting provider (rackspace) and they suggested a hybrid solution. An entry-level managed server (we predict fairly low traffic for the website, but we do need to install some custom CGI software). Some cloud storage which hooks into Limelight Networks. This would host the large files, for download by FTP. It sounded OK to me but I know relatively little about server administration. Does it make sense? Thanks in advance, Mark

  There are times when you need to spare hardware resources (either to keep using legacy hardware, to play the embedded card, or just to be efficient because a large footprint is trashing CPU caches, leading to unacceptable levels of idle-states). In this spirit, some efforts have been made to make 'light' ports of Java or Mono (C# for Linux), and they range in the 80-50 MB (instead of the 100-200 MB). Add a Web server (Apache, IIS, etc.) to the scripting engine and you can happily dive into the GB (IIS + .Net) only to load the tool in memory. Anybody with more modest tools in the specs area?

• IIS web service responds on server, not from remote client

  I have installed a web service on a server running IIS (v6, as far as I can tell). There is another service installed, which responds as expected. My service responds correctly when a browser is pointed to localhost, but there is no response when a remote client tries to query the service. Fiddler on the remote client simply reports a timeout. Wireshark on the remote client shows no response at all from the server, no NACK, nothing. Wireshark on the server detects no query at the relevant port (the service is installed on port 8080). There are no relevant entries in the event viewer. Obviously there is some issue of permissions or authentication. I have tried to compare my service to the service that works, but I have not been able to locate relevant parameters. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Can only connect to file server on second attempt

  I have a FreeNas file server on my local network and I usually connect to it from Windows and Ubuntu computers. Ever since I have upgraded from Ubuntu 12.04 to 12.10 Ubuntu will only connect after a second attempt. By which I mean, I will browse to it via the file manager and once I click on the link in "Bookmarks" it complains that it could not connect. If I then try again it connects successfully and will keep up it's connection until the laptop is suspended or looses connection to the LAN for whatever reason. This isn't much of a problem as I don't mind having to click twice but my real problem is that this means that my scheduled backup will complain that it cannot connect to the storage device if it has not already been accessed during the current session. If there is some way to either stop the issue all together or to force the backup tool (default) to immediately have a second attempt at connecting.

  Hi, I wanted to design a project in linux which could contain programming languages(C, perl, PHP, HTML, XML etc) basically a web based project. Why i have chosen to build on Linux is because it is Open Source, and lot many things can be automated through scripting languages, which in windows i don't know. So, i have installed linux on a virtual machine(Host-Windows 2007 & Guest Linux CentOS), CentOS(command line interface). Since i am a beginner, so I want to know what all tools can be used to facilitate and ease my development process. Some which i know are listed below, and request you to please share your experience on this. 1) Using Putty so that can access the Linux machine from anywhere within the network. 2) Since i want to develop on Linux, but want to use windows as developing platform. So have downloaded Eclipse Editor (C/PHP) on windows. But want to know how can i access linux files from here?? 3) Installed Samba, and still trying to figure out how can i access linux files remotely on Windows. 4) Please share your experience, as how can i ease my development process. and what all tools i can use..?? • Trouble opening my router to my web server

  Here's the story. I have a webs server created and connected to my router. The website works great when I'm connected to the router, but when I'm off the network I can't access the website. I got the IP for my router by googling "what is my ip." I have opened ports 80 to 10080 to link to the server in the router. One odd thing that I don't understand. When I am in network if I access XXX.XXX.XX.XX:80 I can access the web page no problem. If I access XXX.XXX.XX.XX:81 (or any other port) I get the error "Cannot access server." Any idea what the problem could be? Could it be my ISP?

• Why are Back In Time snapshots so large?

  I just backed up the contents of my home partition onto my external hard drive using Back In Time. I browsed to the backed up contents in the external drive and under properties it showed me the size as 9.6 GB. As I read that in next snapshots I create, Back In Time does not backup everything but creates hard links for older contents and saves newer contents, I wanted to test it. So I copied two small files into my home partition and ran 'Take Snapshot' again. The operation completed within a minute - first it checked previous snapshot, assessed the changes, detected two new files and synced them. After this when I browsed to the backed up contents, I was surprised to see the newer and older backup taking up 9.6 GB each. Isn't this a waste of hard drive space? Or did I interpret something wrongly?

  Domain controller failed to restore using windows backup tools One Issue: One 08 R2 domain controller with fully daily backup(only one controller in this company) is out of services due to hardware issue. The below two methods i tried to recover to the new purchasing server,but it is fail. 1)First Method: Using the windows 2008 R2 CD to boot and carry out recover from backup. Everything is OK, but after reboot it will come out blue screen and restart again. 2)Second Method: a)Install the OS in this new server b) Reboot the server to DSRM. c)Using the Windows Backup Tools to restore the system states only After reboot, it will come out the blue screen error and restart again. I know this is may be the different hardware issue, but how to resolve? Or can we only restore the AD services not whole system status? Any suggestion?
