• Can't install any ubuntu on HP Pavillion DV6-6B01AX 15.6 HD/AMD QC A6

  I have tried over 50 times all different ways to install Ubuntu on (HP Pavillion DV6-6B01AX 15.6 HD/AMD QC A6) from v9 to 12.04 but no success. Every time after booting from the DVD or CD and when asked to install along with Windows 7, I click the Next button but then it goes to shut down, says remove media and press any key. I don't want install it over Windows 7, I want to keep Windows 7. Any help?

  I am working on creating an entire Theme based off of Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto album. This is my first time working with Conky and theme creation. I started off by creating the Conky setup: I would like to how to centre the text in Conky. First to have it placed in the centre of my desktop, and second to have the text centre (think the Centre align button in word).   I have been working on .Net platform for 2 years and right now I am working on DevExpress controls for 6 months. All these control have client-side Events which are under some ClientScript nameSpace of particular control, Which specify ClientInstanceName, methods and properties accessible at client side. For example Button1 is ClientInstanceName and Button1.Text is a property, with methods like these: Button1.SetValue(); Button1.GetValue(); In ASP.Net Controls, buttons have the ClientClick event that fires before the Server Side Click event. I have inspected and goggled to extend client side functionality in asp.net controls. For example: create a ClientInstanceName property for controls or CheckedChanged event for CheckBox / RadioButton control. I have tried using these MSDN articles: Injecting Client-Side Script from an ASP.NET Server Control Working with Client-Side Script I got much information and ideas from these articles on how to implement/extend these.   Do you want to develop an add-in targeting multiple versions of Office? And you have basic questions like “Is it possible to do? ” and “How to do it?” ? Then you came to the right place. Few months back, I got a requirement to developed add-ins for Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007. The functionality for both the versions is same. A doubt stroked… when the functionality is same, why would I develop two add-ins separately? Why don’t I make a single build for both the versions of Office? Then I started searching for techniques to develop add-ins which works in both (2003 and 2007) and read many articles written by VSTO Experts in their blogs, Official VSTO Blog, MSDN, Forums and what not. Misha Says: Theoretically, you can develop an add-in for multiple versions of Microsoft Office by catering to the lowest common denominator. This means if you use an Excel 2003 add-in template in Visual Studio 2008, you would be able to develop and debug this with Excel 2007. However if you try this, you may meet these error messages: “You cannot debug or run this project, because the required version of the Microsoft Office application is not installed.”, followed by “Unable to start debugging.” You can develop Office 2003 add-in in a system where Office 2007 is installed.   Fellow UCM blog writer John Sim recently posted a comment asking about filtering values based on the user's security. I had never dug into that detail before, but thought I would take a look. It ended up being tricker then I originally thought and required a bit of insider knowledge, so I thought I would share. The first step is to create the option list table in Configuration Manager. You want to define the column for the option list value and any other columns desired. You then want to have a column which will store the security attribute to apply to the option list value. In this example, we'll name the column 'dGroupName'. Next step is to create a View based on the new table. For the Internal and Visible column, you can select the option list column name. Then click on the Security tab, uncheck the 'Publish view data' checkbox and select the 'Use standard document security' radio button. Click on the 'Edit Values...' button and add the values for the option list. In the dGroupName field, enter the Security Group (or Account if you use Accounts for security) to apply to that value. Create the custom metadata field and apply the View just created. The next step requires file system access to the server. Open the file [ucm directory]\data\schema\views\[view name].hda in a text editor. Below the line '@Properties LocalData', add the line: schSecurityImplementorColumnMap=dGroupName:dSecurityGroup The 'dGroupName' value designates the column in the table which stores the security value. 'dSecurityGroup' indicates the type of security to check against. It would be 'dDocAccount' if using Accounts. Save the file and restart UCM. Now when a user goes to the check-in page, they will only see the options for which they have read and write privileges to the associated Security Group. And on the Search page, they will see the options for which they have just read access. One thing to note is if a value that a user normally can't view on Check-in or Search is applied to a document, but the document is viewable by the user, the user will be able to see the value on the Content Information screen.

• Uninstalling with Ubuntu Software Center doesn't work on Ubuntu 12.04.1 64bit

  Not sure if I'm doing something wrong, or if the .deb package I'm installing is broken in some way (I've built it, using NetBeans 7.2), or if indeed this is a bug in Software Center. When I install this particular 32-bit .deb on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS--all updates applied--(where it was built), GDebi shows it and has an 'Uninstall' button next to it. So it works fine to uninstall it there, via the GDebi GUI. However, when I install it on 12.04.1 LTS--all updates applied--it installs fine, but then does not show up in Ubuntu Software Center as available to be uninstalled. No combination of searching finds it. However, I can from the command line, do sudo apt-get purge javafxapplication1 and it finds it and deletes it. The same thing happens when I build a 64-bit .deb and attempt to install it to the same (64-bit AMD) or a different 64-bit Ubuntu 12.04.1 system. So it seems to be isolated to this NetBeans-generated .deb and the 64-bit AMD build (though I haven't tried it on a 32-bit 12.04.1 install yet). These are all on VirtualBox VMs, btw, if that matters. Any way to clean up my Software Center and see if it's something I've done to get it in this state? Could this behavior be due to how this particular .deb has been built? (It doesn't have an 'Installed-Size' control field, so I do get the "Package is of bad quality" warning when I install it--which I do by clicking 'Ignore and install' button.) If you want all the gory details about why this happening--a bug has been reported against NetBeans for this behavior here: http://javafx-jira.kenai.com/browse/RT-25486 (EDIT: Just to be clear, the app installs fine, runs fine, all works as intended--I just can't get that 'bad package' message to go away, and now... I also can't uninstall it via Software Center, but rather, need to use sudo apt-get purge to uninstall it, after it installs.) Thanks for any pointers. I'm happy to report this as a bug against Ubuntu Software Center/Centre too, if that's what it seems to be, just tell me where to do so (a link). I'm a relative Ubuntu, NetBeans, and JavaFX newbie, though a long-time programmer. If I report it as a bug, I'll try it on the 32-bit build of 12.04.1 as well. Also, if I should add any more detail to the bug reported against NetBeans above, let me know--or feel free to add it yourself to the bug report above, if you would like. Thanks again!

• Sony VAIO is booting directly into Windows without showing grub

  I bought a new Sony Vaio S series laptop. The sda2 partition is a 20gb recovery partition which loads windows with a basic recovery interface. This is accessible by pressing the "ASSIST" button as opposed to the normal power button. I presume that the sda1 EFI System Partition (ESP) loads into this recovery. The sda3 ESP has more fleshed out entries for Microsoft Windows, which actually goes into Windows 7 (as confirmed by bcdedit.exe on Windows). Ubuntu is installed on sda6, and while installation I chose sda3 as my boot partition. The installer correctly created a sda3/EFI/ubuntu/grubx64.efi application. The real problem: for the life of me, I can't set it to be the default! I tried creating a sda3/startup.nsh which called grubx64.efi, but it didn't help -- on rebooting, the system still boots into windows. I tried using efibootmgr, and that shows as it it worked: root@kubuntu:~# efibootmgr BootCurrent: 0000 BootOrder: 0000,0001 Boot0000* EFI USB Device Boot0001* Windows Boot Manager root@kubuntu:~# efibootmgr --create --gpt --disk /dev/sda --part 3 --write-signature --label "GRUB2" --loader "\\EFI\\ubuntu\\grubx64.efi" BootCurrent: 0000 BootOrder: 0002,0000,0001 Boot0000* EFI USB Device Boot0001* Windows Boot Manager Boot0002* GRUB2 root@kubuntu:~# efibootmgr BootCurrent: 0000 BootOrder: 0002,0000,0001 Boot0000* EFI USB Device Boot0001* Windows Boot Manager Boot0002* GRUB2 However, on rebooting, as you guessed, the machine rebooted directly back into Windows. The only things I can think of are: The sda1 partition is somehow being used Overwrite /EFI/Boot/bootx64.efi and /EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi with grubx64.efi [but this seems really radical]. Can anyone please help me out? Thanks -- any help is greatly appreciated, as this issue is driving me crazy!

• How to Create a Send/Receive Group for RSS Feeds in Outlook 2013

  If you choose to manually update your RSS feeds on demand, there is a way to do this without having to send and receive your email at the same time. You can create a special Send/Receive Group for your RSS feeds. NOTE: If you choose to not have your RSS feeds updated automatically, creating a separate Send/Receive Group for your RSS feeds is useful so you can update them when you want to. To begin creating a new Send/Receive Group, click the File tab. Click Options in the menu on the left side of the Account Information screen. On the Outlook Options dialog box, click Advanced in the left pane list of menu options. In the right pane, scroll down to the Send and receive section and click the Send/Receive button. On the Send/Receive Groups dialog box, click New next to the list of groups. On the Send/Receive Group Name dialog box, enter a name, such as “RSS Feeds On Demand Only,” in the edit box and click OK. For all the other Accounts, except RSS, in the list on the left, de-select the Include RSS Feeds in this Send/Receive group check box so there is NO check mark in the box. Click RSS under Accounts, and make sure the Include RSS Feeds in this Send/Receive group check box is selected. NOTE: If you want to have a separate Send/Receive group for each RSS Feed or group certain RSS feeds together, you can turn on and off specific feeds in the lower half of the Send/Receive Settings dialog box. If you decide to do this, you might specify a more appropriate name for each Send/Receive group for the RSS feeds. Click OK to accept your changes and close the Send/Receive dialog box. Make sure your new Send/Receive group is selected in the list of groups on the Send/Receive Groups dialog box. De-select all the options under Setting for group section at the bottom of the dialog box and click Close. This prevents this group from being updated when you click the general Send/Receive button to retrieve your email. Click OK on the Outlook Options dialog box. To manually update your RSS feeds, click the Send / Receive tab. Click Send/Receive Groups and select your new group from the drop-down list. You can change, rename, or remove any Send/Receive Groups you create by accessing the Send/Receive Groups dialog box again.

• What changes were made to a document

  Part of my job is writing functional specs. Due to the inevitable iterative and incremental nature of software design/development, these specs need to be updated with additions/deletions/changes over a period of time. When the time comes for a developer to implement features or update their design document (or a tester to test the feature or update their test specs) they need to be doing that against the latest spec. The problem is that if they have reviewed this document already, they need a quick way to find the delta from the last time they reviewed it to see what changes exist and how their existing plans may be affected (instead of having to read the entire document again). Doing that is very easy assuming your Word documents are hosted on SharePoint. 1. Every time you review a document note the SharePoint version and/or date (if it is a printed copy, make sure your printout includes the date in the footer – all my specs do) 2. When you need to see what changed, open the document (make sure you are not using a cached or local offline copy) and on the ribbon go to the "Review" tab and then  click on the "Compare" button. 3. Click on the "Specific Version…" option. In the dialog that pops up pick the last version you reviewed and click the "Compare" button. [TIP for authors: before checkin of your document, always compare against the "Last Version" on the SharePoint so you can add appropriate more complete check in comments] 4. What you see now is that in addition to the document you have open, two other documents just opened up. One is in the background (flashing on your task bar) – close that one as it is the old version. 5. The other document is in the foreground and contains all the changes between the old version and the latest one. Be sure not to make edits to this document, use it only for reading the changes. To find all the changes, on the ribbon under the "Review" tab, click on the "Reviewing Pane" to open the reviewing pane on the left. You can now click on each pink change to see what it is. 6. When you are done reviewing changes close the document and don't save any changes (remember if you want to make edits/additions/comments make them in the original document which is still open). • Remote synchronization

  Hi all, today we would like to show you another improvement we have prepared for NetBeans 7.2. Today, let's talk a little bit about remote synchronization. If you already use our simple (S)FTP client, this enhancement could be useful for you. Simply right click on Source Files and select Synchronize. Please notice that the remote synchronization works better only on the whole project (it means that the Source Files must be selected). The Synchronize action is also available on individual files (more files can be selected at once) but the suggested operation (download, upload etc.) does not work so precisely. Also please notice that the suggested operations are not 100% reliable since the timestamps provided by FTP servers are not exact. Once the remote files (their names and paths only, of course) are fetched, the main dialog appears: As you can see, NetBeans tries to suggest you operations (upload, download etc.) which should be done for each individual file of your project. If you are interested only in some particular changes, you can simply filter the list: Since we have a file conflict, we need to resolve it first. Fortunately this is very easy because we just select the desired file and click the Diff button . The remote version of our file is downloaded and compared with the local version. The resut is displayed in the dialog where you can easily apply and/or refuse the remote changes or even simply type manually to the local version of the selected file: Once we are done with our changes, the operation for the selected file changes to Upload and the file is marked with * (since we made some changes). Please notice that if you now click the Cancel button, in fact no changes are done in our local file. As you can see, if we have one or more files selected, we can change their operation to: no operation (file won't be synchronized) download upload delete (both local and remote file) reset (the operation is resetted to the original one suggested by NetBeans and also all changes done via Diff action are discarded) Now we are ready to synchronize our project. NetBeans will show us the synchronization summary (this dialog can be omitted, see the Show Summary checkbox on the previous image). The synchronization itself starts and we can see its progress and of course its result. As always, all the operations can be reviewed in the Output window. That's all for today, as always, please test it and report all the issues or enhancements you find in NetBeans BugZilla (component php, subcomponent FTP support).

• Problem installing UniversalIndentGUI

  I need a GUI beautifier for C code. I've found UniversalIndentGUI on sourceforge. Downloaded a .deb file.Opened it with Ubuntu Software Center to install it but the button is grey and unclickable and there is a line saying Dependency is not satisfiable: libqscintilla2-3. I've installed via the Synaptic Package Manager libqscintilla2-5 but that didn't help. Is there any way to install the UniversalIndentGUI, the libqscintilla2-3 package or to some how work around the problem?

• Software installation problem

  I just installed Ubuntu today and I went to the Ubuntu software center to install Adobe Flash player. And when the install button is pressed, I received the following message: Package dependencies cannot be resolved This error could be caused by required additional software packages which are missing or not installable. Futhermore there could be a conflict between software packages which are not allowed to be installed at the same time. Please help me.
