• Songbird too damn slow, at least on my mac

  I've read on few places that Songbird is no good with more than some thousands of library items because it starts getting quite slow. Well, in my case (which is a clean install) I've imported 17k items (which I know is not that much) and instead of becoming just too slow it frequently gets to not responding for several minutes until getting back to its senses again. That's for whichever random operation such as deleting 1 item from library. I've also read on few more places that gives very little hope on fixing this issue, but I wonder... Is there any way to tweak it and make it work as fast as expected? Am I missing something or is this just a complete and utterly useless piece of software for libraries with more than 10 thousand thingies?

• Weird behaviour/rendering of backspace in Terminal.app when SSHing into zsh using tmux/screen

  Hi there, I just stumbled upon a weird problem. When I SSH into my server (centos, zsh) and I type some stuff and hit backspace It looks like a space - but internally it really deleted the characters. ls -l a Note that the space between land a is actually when I hit backspace. When I now hit return ls -a gets executed. This is only in zsh, in bash it works fine. Hope anyone has an idea what this is all about and how to fix this. Update: Only happens when using tmux/screen

• ACHI drivers for W8.1 with amd

  I hope you can help me... I just installed a SSD (Samsung EVO 840) and windows 8.1 pro in my pc with M5A99X EVO ( chipset AMD 990X/SB950 ) motherboard. The SSD is installed in sata3 socket using a sata3 wire. The AHCI mode is ON in the bios. I configured the ahci controller and now device administrator looks like this: All works, but the speed of the SDD is very slow (like a HDD). Samsung magician doesn't recognize the sata mode neither the ahci. I tried to install more drivers but the system broke and I need to reinstall windows :( I tried many things from the web, but any works: Modify windows registy Use compatibility mode Modify the amd drivers and install it unsigned Thank you for your time!! • Need solutions in sharing a 3Mb/768Kbps DSL line to 60+ users and faster bandwidth

  Two parts. Part 1: We currently have 2 DSL Lines with 3Mb/768Kbps speeds load balanced for 60+ users. Accessing the Internet is borderline unusable. The simple solution would be to get a faster DSL Line but the highest DSL package is 6Mb/768Kbps, has quite the price jump, and doesn't do anything to help with upload speeds. I'm looking for free or extremely low cost solutions (web cache, traffic shaping, bandwidth controls, etc) to help with making Internet access more bearable until the next funding year. Can anyone give any advice? Part 2: We're looking into a 4.5Mb bonded T1 in the next funding year which is of course significantly more expensive than 2 DSL lines. Are bonded T1s our only hope for faster speeds? Are there any better alternatives?

• Does lshw list the "factory" speed of a memory module or the effective speed and how to find the former?

  I hope I phrased this correctly. lshw gives: description: DIMM Synchronous 400 MHz (2.5 ns) product: M378B5773CH0-CH9 vendor: Samsung physical id: 0 slot: DIMM0 size: 2GiB width: 64 bits clock: 400MHz (2.5ns) And indeed the memory speed is set is set to 800MHz in the BIOS, which I think makes sense since it is a double rate. On the other hand, Googling strongly suggests that to this product number corresponds the PC3-10600 type, which is 1333MHz, not 800MHz. And this seems to be confirmed in the BIOS, where if I select Auto for memory bus speed, 1333MHz is selected "based on SPD settings". However in the latter case, the computer does not boot, i.e. the kernel panics, complaining that something attempted to kill the Idle process. So, I am I am beginning to suspect that I have been given defective memory, the technician that installed saw this, and lowered the bus speed. Is this a possibility?

  Hope you're fine. I got 2 virtual machines : Windows Server 2008 with Active Directory installed. Linux that works as a DNS and DHCP Server I need to make them work together, but I don't if this is going to be possible because VMWARE is sharing the NIC with other virtual machines and computer itself. I've assigned different IP static adresses to the servers. Is there a way for me to make these things get interconnected and test them on some virtual clients ? Any help will be much appreciated... • Intel hybrid graphics stuck in power save mode

  I have an Asus UL30V with Intel hybrid graphics. When I bought it it used to switch to turn of the better graphics card to save power and run on a more power effecient one. When I connected the laptop to a power source again I could go to the intel graphics icon on the task bar and click on "switch to enhanced performance mode" or something similar. But like 2-3 months ago it suddenly vanished. I cannot switch modes anymore, it's gotten stuck in power save mode. I can change the windows power setting but that doesn't enable the better graphics card :( What should I do? I've tried restarting the computer and that does not work. I really hope I don't have to reinstall the drivers! It seems like other people have had the same issue: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3518/p/19422695/19994601.aspx , he hasn't even got the same computer as me. I have windows 7 Home Premium x64 Any ideas?

• aws s3 works with script but not on cron

The problem is the script works fine .. but I tried to add it to the crontab. And the script executes but not the s3 sync/mv part ! • How can I redirect URLs using the proxy module in Apache?

  This seems like a super-basic question but I am having a hard time tracking down a straightforward solution, so appreciate any help and patience with me on this: I want to configure my Apache proxy server to redirect certain URLs so that, for example, a web browser HTTP request for www.olddomain.com gets passed to the proxy server which then routes the request to www.newdomain.com which sends a response to the proxy server which then passes it back to the web browser. Seems so simple, yet I don't see how to achieve this on Apache. I know Squid/Squirm offer this functionality so am guessing I am missing something really basic. I know I can use RewriteRule to dynamically modify the URL and pass it to the proxy server, but I effectively want to do the reverse, whereby the proxy server receives the original URL, applies the RewriteRule, and then forwards the HTTP request to the new URL. Hope that makes sense. Thanks in advance for any help.

• WD Passport Won't Mount

  My WD Passport won't mount. However, it turns on when plugged into my macbook and doesn't make any strange noises. It took a small fall (just a few inches and it was on my couch) and I'm very concerned about physical damage. When I open up disk utility it shows the root 500 GB WD My Passport drive which seems to be OK when I verify it and repair it. However, the "External Hard Drive", the directory underneath the "500 GB WD My Passport drive" is grayed out. When I verify the External Hard Drive it says it needs to be rapaired. When I try and repair it it gives me the following message and does not seem to progress: "Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required." Is there hope for me recovering my data? I stupidly have important data on it that I don't have anywhere else.

• Offlineimap -- push changes to all folders; only pull from INBOX folder

  I would like to be able to set up offlineimap to do the following Sync Remote/INBOX - Local Sync Local/Maildirs/* - Remote Possible? The use case here is: I download all new mail from my remote IMAP INBOX folder with offlineimap. offlineimap's posthook command calls a custom python script which does junk filtering, then sorts and categorizes my mail in the local INBOX folder to various local maildirs based on sender, etc. I read my mail with mutt and perhaps do some more categorization. ? Step 4 is what I'm after. I want offlineimap to push my local changes (categorization, filtering, deletion in the case of spam) back to the various folders on the imap server, but as you can see, there's no need for me to be pulling any changes from folders other than Remote/INBOX, as no changes happen on the IMAP server itself. I hope that's a clear explanation of the problem.

  In Windows 7, the window title's color (by default black, to see the title in the title bar fire up Windows Media Player for example) is stored in [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\Colors] TitleText value. This is not the case in Windows 8, since this value is only used when using high contrast theme. It looks like noone has come up with a way to change this color yet, so my question is, where to look? What tools can I use to see dependencies, what could be the way to find this value (I rightfully hope it's not a constant in code).

  I need help in removing binary package that had been installed in my linux machine. The scenario that I am having are such as like this: I've already install latest apache that I get from its website(httpd.apache.org) through Unix binary package(tar.gz) After successfully install program,the apache server web perfectly without any issues. But then I having a thought,if there are another latest release version of apache in the future,then I need to make sure that i can upgrading current apache or reinstalling the new version apache. So my question is, how do I ensure that I have remove the old remove apache and all its dependencies so that it will not having conflict(probably) when installing the new apache. Right now the only thing that i can think of is to remove all the apache folder manually : rm -rf /apache2 Hope someone can shed some light about this.Thanks.

  I have a Google Drive spreadsheet with a single column that holds string values (Twitter screen names) such as "user1", "user1", "UserX", and I would like to count those values so that I can easily craft a bar chart out of it. So the result should be value occurrence ----------------------- user1 2 UserX 1 ... .... Please note, I only want to look for whole words, and not part words. EG, the words 'on' and 'one' appears in the word 'money' - I would not count this (eg, only the word money is counted). Hope that is clear enough. What formula should I use?

• Why is my email server in AT&T's blacklist?

  I just got this bounce message: <¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦@att.net>: host scc-mailrelay.att.net[204.127.208.75] said: 521-88.208.246.34 blocked by sbc:blacklist.mailrelay.att.net. 521 DNSRBL: Blocked for abuse. See http://att.net/blocks (in reply to MAIL FROM command) So I'm trying to figure out why our server ended up on their blacklist. The web page link doesn't tell me why, as far as I can see. From a few multi-RBL tools I conclude that our IP is only on the collateral damage lists of uceprotect.net (you can be exempt from that with a paid subscription), and I dearly hope that AT&T doesn't use that. From the mail server logs I see that an email to another @att.net address went through two days ago without being blocked. Does anyone have any ideas how I can find out what went wrong?

  I am attaching a few pics of my laptop monitor now . Can you please tell me if this is a hardware error which can be rectified by replacing the monitor ? How this happened - I accidently hit my leg on the laptop and jammed it against the wall and ever since the monitor is like this .I plan to replace the Monitor by buying a spare parts laptop that sells in ebay .   I need to do a 301 redirect with apache since I'm migrating domains. What I would need to do is the following, from certain directories, redirect all of it's content to a different damin (where the file already exists). Let's say I have one.com/files/something.doc or one.com/files/other.php I have already "copied" or "backed up" all the contents of the directory, so the following already exist: two.com/old/files/something.doc and two.com/old/files/other.php So I would just need to redirect anything in the directory "files" (or whatever).   Hi, I would like to know if it is possible to do the following considering that I would like to migrate domains. I have lets say: one.com/files/one.html one.com/files/two.php one.com/other/three.html one.com/other/four.doc one.com/other/subdirectory/five.doc I am migrating to two.com So I would like to make RESPECTIVE 301 redirects to the following: two.com/old/files/one.html two.com/old/files/two.php two.com/old/other/three.html two.com/old/other/four.doc two.com/old/other/subdirectory/five.doc I've tried with cPanel and although I come "close" with the redirects option I can't seem to make it happen. The folders are not much (10 -12) the file are a lot, and obviously impossible to make it manually. How would you proceed? Can this/ should this be done with regex from the .htaccess?? Can you direct all the elements of a subdirectory in the manner expressed above? I hope the question is clear enough, if not please ask for any clarification needed!! Thanks in advance!!

  My question is very simple (maybe a tad too simple), but I will try and phrase it in a way to hopefully assist future visitors. I have just set up (successfully I hope) a DNS server at with some name server records on Ubuntu 12.10 while I am waiting for it to propagate I would like to know for future reference if I can use more than 2 forwarders in my /etc/named.conf.options.Would this speed up propagation? Do make this question and answer more valuable what other public DNS servers are available over and above Google's public DNS adresses: 8.8.8.8 8.8.4.4 I would also like to know if a restart of bind means that my servers will need to re-propagate? Is there a methodology to update settings while bind is running?

  I'm attempting to access logs from a proprietary hardware box with no reasonable hope of modifying the software. There is a process on the device to dump log files to a flash drive on the USB port after entering a code sequence. Currently, analysis of the logs requires the following: Physical presence at the device Manual entry of the code sequence Removal of USB device Insertion of USB device into a normal Linux box I'm hoping there is some sort of device that can act as a USB mass storage device but simultaneously make it's contents available as a network file share (wired preferred). Does such a device currently exist? A combo hardware/software solution would also work.

• Installing Bugzilla on Ubuntu 9.04 and Plesk

  Hey guys. I'm trying to install the latest Bugzilla version on my ubuntu server. (Want to use a subdomain like bugs.domain.com) I already installed all necessary perl modules and check_modules.pl doesn't show any errors. But when I'm running the testserver.pl script I get the following: TEST-OK Webserver is running under group id in $webservergroup TEST-FAILED Fetch of images/padlock.png failed I'm also not able to visit ANY file within the bugzilla folder from the browser. I'm always getting a 404 error. The bugzilla folder and all containing files are set to apache as the owner. I tried to enter the apache configuration form the installation guide in the http.include file of the domain and in the vhosts.conf file of the subdomain as well. I don't know what to do... Playing with plesks' suexecgroup doesn't bring any solution... I hope you can help me! Thanks in advance!

• Drupal 7 on Windows - File Module Problems

  Installed Drupal 7 using the Web Platform installer on Windows 2008 For some reason, the file module, when you upload a file, uses the first few letters of the filename as the unique key to store in the database, which of course causes problems very fast. I'm wondering does anybody have a workaround for this? An AJAX HTTP request terminated abnormally. Debugging information follows. • Needing to concatenate between cells that change daily. I want to be able to automate this vs manual

  I use concatenate to pull data together from different cells in my spreadsheet. Since my data changes daily, I want the formula to also change daily without having to manually input the new cell in the concatenate formula. I am looking for a way to do this but not sure how. Can anyone out there help me out please!? I appreciate the assistance in advance! Maybe this will help to explain what I need. I have a row of data from D4:AH4 that I insert daily based on the new day. When I use the concatenate and us the following formula: =CONCATENATE(TEXT('Raw Data'!B4,"m/d")," ",TEXT('Raw Data'!C4,"")," ",TEXT('Raw Data'!E4,"0.0%"))... E4 being the cell that changes daily where next day would be F4, G4, etc... All other parts of the formula will stay the same. I hope this helps! Thanks! :)
