• Huh? Android Preferences page refuses to load after adding SDK 1.6

  This one is really weird. I had a perfectly working Eclipse + Android 2.2 SDK working in both Administrator account and LUA (Limited User Account) under Windows XP. Then I decided to add the Android 1.6 SDK (I could do it from an Administrator account only). It seemed to have gone well, since it still works perfectly -- but only in that Administrator account! When I try to start Eclipse under a LUA, I receive the following error message box: Which disappears within 2-3 seconds and replaced with: I then tried to check the Preferences page, but again, all I receive is error messages: and: Any idea why this is happening and how to fix this? (I would love to be able to continue working from a LUA)

• Approach to retrieve files from server

  I'm in the process of making a Java application with a corresponding update application. At any given time the user may want to update the application and the updater will ask for a list of files of the latest release. Based on this list, the updater can determine which files need to be downloaded to complete the update. I now have 2 approaches to solve this, but i would like to know what approach will put the least stress on my application and server. I could send a list of files i want to download to my server and the server zips the files and simply returns this compressed file to the application. The updater sents a request for each seperate file to the server, which simply returns the file The application will be used mainly in Belgium and The Netherlands and connections/bandwidth tend to be pretty decent in here. The average size of a single file should be around 100Kb and at most 1Mb. I expect an update to have anywhere between 10 to 50 new files. I expect at most 100 persons/day to update the application, i.e. in the week when a new version is released. I hope this is enough information to sketch my problem and any advice is welcome. If there is another common way to tackle this, i'd be glad to hear it.

• How to let a guest user start their workflow and prompt registration when they try to save their wor

  I'm wondering what I would do to go about letting a guest use my web application without registering, then if they attempt to save their work they are prompted with a registration. This will be in a rails application by the way. Can I just allow public access to part of the work flow, then when they save check if they're a registered user (by session value, or cookie?). If they aren't a registered user, save all their work into the session and let them fill out a sign out form. On successful registration automatically log them in and initiate the create on the db?

• Is it safe to display user input as input values without sanitation?

  Say we have a form where the user types in various info. We validate the info, and find that something is wrong. A field is missing, invalid email, et cetera. When displaying the form to the user again I of course don't want him to have to type in everything again so I want to populate the input fields. Is it safe to do this without sanitation? If not, what is the minimum sanitation that should be done first? And to clearify: It would of course be sanitized before being for example added to a database or displayed elsewhere on the site.

• How to keep track of user images when using a CDN? [closed]

  We are considering moving our user profile images from the local server to the Rackspace CDN (Cloud Files). However, how do you keep track of where each user's profile image is located on the CDN? Wouldn't you have to store the CDN URL for each user image in the local Database and query it every time you display a user image? Isn't that slower than accessing a user image directly on the local server which requires no such DB query to retrieve since you already know where it is stored based on the user's User ID? What if a user has an album of pics? How would you keep track of all those images that belong just to that one user? What about the order of those pics? In the case of the Rackspace CDN, we're looking at using a Container for each individual user to help keep things more logically organized, but we don't know what the best way to track all of it is since the CDN provides a seemingly random URL for each image. To make matters worse, you can't even delete a non-empty Container belonging to a user when they delete their account, you actually have to delete each object inside the Container one-by-one before deleting the Container itself. It doesn't end there, you can't even have nested Containers or "sub-folders", and you can't rename a file (you must copy it with a new name and delete the old one manually). It just sounds so incredibly more complicated then we thought it would be, and it certainly does not feel "intuitive" compared to local storage, so we don't know what to do. Please help.

  Hello, I am trying to write a script which includes disk defragmentation as one of its steps. defrag needs administrative rights to work. I tried to use runas /user:Administrator, but it always asked me for password (even though there isn't one set). The script needs to run unattended for a long time, and it needs to be started from standard user account (it is actually being run by cygwin), so I'd like to get rid of that prompt.   I’ve set up ten Windows 7 user accounts, so that I can test different versions of Google Chrome*. I’ve named the accounts “Chrome 01”, “Chrome 02”, and so on. Ideally, I’d like the accounts sorted on the login screen by Chrome version, which is why I added the leading zero to the version number (assuming it was an alphabetic sort). However, when I created the “Chrome 10” account, it ended up sorted between “Chrome 01” and “Chrome 02”. What is going on? *(Chrome installs are user-account-specific)

• User Produtivity Kit - Powerful Packages (Part 1)

  User Productivity Kit provides the ability to create a variety of content types including robust topics on system process and web pages with formatted text and graphics. There are times when you want to enhance content with media types not naively created by User Productivity Kit, media types such as video, custom animations, forms, and more. One method of doing this is to maintain these media files on a web server - separate from the User Productivity Kit player content and link to the files using absolute URLs such as http://myserver/overview.html. While this will get you going, you won't benefit from the content management capabilities of the UPK Developer. Features such as check-in / check-out, history, document properties, folder permissions and more are not available to this external content. Further, if you ever need to move that content to a server with a different name or domain, you'd need to update all your links. UPK version 3.1 introduced a new document type - the package. A package is a group of folders and files that you manage in the Developer library as a single document. These package documents work in the same manner as any other document in the library and you can use all of the collaborative content development features you see with other document types. Packages can be used for anything from single Word documents, PDF files, and graphics to more intricate sets of inter-related files commonly seen with HTML files and their graphics, style sheets, and JavaScript files. The structure of the files and folders within a package will always be preserved so this means that any relative links between files in the package will work. For example, an HTML file containing an image tag with a relative link to a graphic elsewhere in the same package will continue to function properly both when viewed in the Developer and when published to outputs such as the UPK Player. Once you start to use packages, you'll soon discover that there is a lot of existing content that can be re-purposed by placing it into UPK packages. Packages are easily created by selecting File...New...Package. Files can be added in a number of ways including the "Add Files" button, copy & paste from Windows Explorer, and drag & drop. To use one of the files in the package, just create a link to the file in the package you want to target. This is supported throughout the Developer in places such as section & topic concepts, frame links and hyperlinks in web pages. A little more challenging is determining how to structure packages in your library. As I mentioned earlier, a package can contain anything from a single file to dozens of files and folders. So what should you do? You could create a package for each file. You could create one package for all your files. But which one is right? Well, there's not a right and wrong answer to this question. There are advantages and disadvantages to each. The right decision will be influenced by the package files themselves, the structure of the content in the library, the size and working style of the development team, how content is shared between different outlines and more. The first consideration can be assessed the quickest. If the content to be placed in the package is composed of multiple files and those files reference each other, they should be in the same package. There are loads of examples of this type of content. HTML files with graphics and style sheets, HTML files with embedded Flash movies, and Word documents saved as HTML are all examples where the content is composed of multiple files and the files reference each other in some way. Content like this should always be placed in a singe package such that these relative links between the files are preserved and play properly in the UPK Player. • Windows 7 Sysprep Default User

  I seem to be having a problem with implementing my sysprep. I have been playing with Windows 7, WAIK, Server 2008 R2 and various other things. I managed to create a WIM with everything I need installed and I have worked out the autounattend.xml. I now have a Windows 7 64-bit complete unattended install from a USB device. It has all my programs, setting and everything done except one thing - the default profile set up 100% correctly. I have created a mostly set up default profile. I booted into audit mode, customized the Administrator account (mostly anyway) and then used sysprep with an unattend.xml file containing the copyprofile=true command. The file was set up with the WSIM and does not contain any extra info. This all works wonderfully. I recreated the WIM and all was good. I then decided to move the default location of the visible stuff in the user profile (Documents, Music, Pictures etc.) without changing the location of Appdata or other hidden folders. This is where things went a little... wrong. I went to the user folder (generally has the User name) with all the other folders in it. I right clicked on My Documents, found the location tab and changed it to M:\Documents. Now if I run sysprep /generalize /oobe /reboot /unattend:unattend.xml it starts the generalise... then spits out a fatal error and goes no further. • Adding an user to samba

  I'm trying to setup some samba shares in my home network on an Ubuntu 12.04 machine. Everything works fine for my user account (max) but I can not add any new user. Every time I try to add new user they can not use the shares. It's likely that the error is very basic to the concept of samba but please don't just tell me to read the docs. I've been trying that for about 2 weeks now. I've set up the server with my user max who can mount transfer and the share max. Than I added the user simon with sudo adduser --no-create-home --disabled-login --shell /bin/false simon because the user should not be able to ssh into the machine. I did an sudo smbpasswd -a simon and set an (samba) password for simon and added an share for simon. I also added simon to transferusers to give him access to the share transfer. • How to give a user NTFS rights to a folder, via Powershell

  I'm trying to build a script that will create a folder for a new user on our file server. Then take the inherited rights away from that folder and add specific rights back in. I have it successfully adding the folder (if i give it a static entry in the script), giving domain admin rights, removing inheritance, etc...but i'm having trouble getting it to use a variable I set as the user. I don't want there to be a static user each time, I want to be able to run this script, have it ask me for a username, it then goes out and creates the folder, then gives that same user full rights to that folder based on the username i've supplied it. • copying folder and file permissions from one user to another after switching domains [closed]

  Please excuse the title, this was the best way I could think to describe this scenario without an entire paragraph. I am using C#. Currently I have a file server running windows server 2003 setup on a domain, we will call this oldDomain, and I have about 500 user accounts with various permissions on this server. Because of restrictions out of my control we are abandoning this domain and using another one that is more dominant within the organization, we will call this newDomain. All of the users that have accounts on oldDomain also have accounts on newDomain, but the usernames are completely different and there is no link between the two. What I am hoping to do is generate a list of all user accounts and this appropriate sid's from AD on the oldDomain, I already have this part done using dsquery and dsget. Then I will have someone go through and match all of the accounts from oldDomain to the correct username on newDomain. Ultimately leaving me with a list of sids from oldDomain and the appropriate username from newDomain. Now I am hoping to copy the file and folder permissions from the old user from oldDomain to the new user on newDomain once I join the server to newDomain. Can anyone tell me what the best way to copy permissions from the sid to the user on newDomain? There are a bunch of articles out there about copying permissions from user a to user b but I wanted to check and see what the recommended practice is here since there are a ton of directories.

• Windows Service with Logon a user

  I have a service running in a box with Windows XP and a box of Server (2003). There is one service running in autmactic mode. If I set the log on with a local user, the service will stop running if the user logs off the account from the Windows? In other words, in order to keep the service running, have I to keep the user as login mode? I understand that the service can be set as local system which will not need any one to login as long as the box is powered on. However, the service I need to run has to be running as a local user with the required permissions. The problem I have right now is that the box may reboot itself. If that happens, no one is logged in yet until some one has to log in as the required user. I want to make sure if the required user has to be as a log on user first. If that's the case, any suggestion to deal with unexpected reboot issue?

• Windows 7, network shares, and authentication via local group instead of local user

  I have been doing some troubleshooting of my home network lately and have come to an odd conclusion that I was hoping to get some clarification on. I'm used to managing share permissions in a domain environment via groups instead of individual user accounts. I have a box at home running windows 7 ultimate and I decided to share some directories on that machine. I set it up to disallow guest access and require specifically granted permissions. (password moe?). Anyway, after a whole bunch of time i figured out that even though the shares I created were allowed via a local group i could not access them until i gave specific allowance to the intended user. I just didn't think i would have to do that. So here is the breakdown. Network is windows workgroup, not homegroup or nt domain PC_1 - win 7 ultimate - sharing in classic mode - user BOB - groups Admins PC_2 - win 7 starter - client - user BOB - groups admins PC_3 - win xp pro - client - user BOB - groups admins the share on PC_1 granted permission to only the local group administrators. local user BOB on PC_1 was a member of administrators. Both PC_2 and PC_3 could not browse the intended share on PC_1 because they were denied access. Also, no challenge was presented. They were simply denied. After adding BOB specifically to the intended share everything works just fine. Remember, its not an nt domain just a workgroup. But still, shouldn't i be able to manage share permissions via groups instead of individual user accounts? D.

  We have a mail user on our postfix server that was using the company mail to send compromising information to the competence. I've been asked to make a report of the actions for that user in the last time. There are tools like pflogsumm and others that can extract statistic data, but I haven't so far find anything useful to get all the info for a user because the data is in multiple lines. I'd like to get something like this: For the sent mail 11/11/11 00:00:00 [email protected] -> [email protected] 11/11/11 00:00:01 [email protected] -> [email protected] For the received mail 10/10/11 00:00:00 [email protected] -> [email protected] 10/10/11 00:00:01 [email protected] -> [email protected] I know I can do a script by myself, but matching the postfix ID for every mail is not something that can be made with a simple grep, and I've a lot of mail history that I have to recheck distributed among diferent files and so on. • windows: force user to use specific network adapter

  I'm looking for a configuration/hack to force a particular application or all traffic from a particular user to use a specific NIC. I have an legacy client/server app that has a "security feature" that limits connections based on IP address. I'm trying to find a way to migrate this app to a terminal server environment. The simple solution is for the development team to update the code in the application, however in this case that's not an option. I was thinking I might be able to install VMware NIC's installed for each user on the terminal server and do some type of scripting to force that user account to use a specific NIC. Anybody have any ideas on this? EDIT 1: I think I have a hack to work around my specific problem, however I'd love to hear of a more elegant solution. I got lucky in that the software reads the server IP address out of a config file. So I'm going to have to make a config file for each user and make a customer programs files for each user. Then add a VMware NIC for each user and make each server IP address reside on a different subnet. That will force the traffic for a particular user to a particular IP address, however its really messy and all the VM NIC's will slow down the terminal server. I'll setup a proof of concept Monday and let the group know how it affects performance.

When I checked the implementation in Google Play Gaming's PlayGamePlatform.cs, both the method has this summary - Not implemented yet. Calls the callback with an empty list. So my question is How do I get this data in Unity? Has anyone tried any other method to get the data?

• Windows 8 Initial User Experience

  Today is the second day I'm using a Windows 8 laptop.  Load up time is fast, and changing applications is very smooth.  However, I keep finding myself hitting the windows key (double-clicking a PDF file, and, what?  How do I get back?)Other than that, the experience has been fine.  So far this has not been any worse than other windows upgrade experience I had so far.  No bad news is good news here.

• My profile avatar doesn't work! [closed]

  How can I change my avatar on stackoverflow.com? I click the change picture link in my profile but it link to gravatar website, then I select the picture for my gravatar associated with my email. But my avatar on stackoverflow.com still not changes after 24hours as announced. Somebody has a work-around? Please help!
