  • python VTE Terminal weirdness

    - by mykhal
    i'm trying to use the terminal from python VTE binding (python-vte from debian squeeze) as a virtual terminal emulator (just for ANSI/control chars text processing) in interactive python console, everything looks (almost) all right: >>> import vte >>> term = vte.Terminal() >>> term.feed("a\nb") >>> print repr(term.get_text(lambda *a: True).rstrip()) 'a\n b' however, launching this code (little modified) as python script, different result is yielded: $ python vte_wiredness_1.py '' strangely enough, pasting the code back into the (new) interactive python session also yields empty string: >>> import vte >>> term = vte.Terminal() >>> term.feed("a\nb") >>> print repr(term.get_text(lambda *a: True).rstrip()) '' >>> first thing caming on my mind was that the only difference between the two cases is the timing - there had to be some delay before get_text. unfortunately, preluding get_text with some seconds sleep did not help then i thought it has something to do with X window environment. but the results are the same pure linux console (with some warning on missing graphics). i wonder what causes such an unpredictable behavior (interactive console - pasted vs typed, and it's not the delay.. ant the interactive console has nothing to do with the vte terminal object.. i guess) can someone explain what is happening? is it possible to use the VTE Term such way? that the "b" letter in the output is preceded by the space, is another strangeness (all consecutive lines are preceded by more spaces.. looks like I have to send carriage return before the string.) (the lambda *a: True get_text method argument i'm using is a dummy callback, it's is some SlotSelectedCallback.. for its explanation i'd be grateful as well :) )

  • BeautifulSoup can't parse a webpage?

    - by JLTChiu
    I am using beautiful soup for parsing webpage now, I've heard it's very famous and good, but it doesn't seems works properly. Here's what I did import urllib2 from bs4 import BeautifulSoup page = urllib2.urlopen("http://www.cnn.com/2012/10/14/us/skydiver-record-attempt/index.html?hpt=hp_t1") soup = BeautifulSoup(page) print soup.prettify() I think this is kind of straightforward. I open the webpage and pass it to the beautifulsoup. But here's what I got: Warning (from warnings module): File "C:\Python27\lib\site-packages\bs4\builder\_htmlparser.py", line 149 "Python's built-in HTMLParser cannot parse the given document. This is not a bug in Beautiful Soup. The best solution is to install an external parser (lxml or html5lib), and use Beautiful Soup with that parser. See http://www.crummy.com/software/BeautifulSoup/bs4/doc/#installing-a-parser for help.")) ... HTMLParseError: bad end tag: u'</"+"script>', at line 634, column 94 I thought CNN website should be well designed, so I am not very sure what's going on though. Does anyone has idea about this?

  • Python multiprocessing doesn't play nicely with uuid.uuid4().

    - by yig
    I'm trying to generate a uuid for a filename, and I'm also using the multiprocessing module. Unpleasantly, all of my uuids end up exactly the same. Here is a small example: import multiprocessing import uuid def get_uuid( a ): ## Doesn't help to cycle through a bunch. #for i in xrange(10): uuid.uuid4() ## Doesn't help to reload the module. #reload( uuid ) ## Doesn't help to load it at the last minute. ## (I simultaneously comment out the module-level import). #import uuid ## uuid1() does work, but it differs only in the first 8 characters and includes identifying information about the computer. #return uuid.uuid1() return uuid.uuid4() def main(): pool = multiprocessing.Pool( 20 ) uuids = pool.map( get_uuid, range( 20 ) ) for id in uuids: print id if __name__ == '__main__': main() I peeked into uuid.py's code, and it seems to depending-on-the-platform use some OS-level routines for randomness, so I'm stumped as to a python-level solution (to do something like reload the uuid module or choose a new random seed). I could use uuid.uuid1(), but only 8 digits differ and I think there are derived exclusively from the time, which seems dangerous especially given that I'm multiprocessing (so the code could be executing at exactly the same time). Is there some Wisdom out there about this issue?

  • Django: Save data from form in DB

    - by Anry
    I have a model: class Cost(models.Model): project = models.ForeignKey(Project) cost = models.FloatField() date = models.DateField() For the model I created a class form: class CostForm(ModelForm): class Meta: model = Cost fields = ['date', 'cost'] view.py: def cost(request, offset): if request.method == 'POST': #HOW save data in DB? return HttpResponseRedirect('/') else: form = CostForm() In the template file determined: <form action="/cost/{{ project }}/" method="post" accept-charset="utf-8"> <label for="date">Date:</label><input type="text" name="date" value={{ current_date }} id="date" /> <label for="cost">Cost:</label><input type="text" name="cost" value="0" id="cost" /> <p><input type="submit" value="Add"></p> </form> How save data from form in DB? P.S. offset = project name Model: class Project(models.Model): title = models.CharField(max_length=150) url = models.URLField() manager = models.ForeignKey(User) timestamp = models.DateTimeField() I tried to write: def cost(request, offset): if request.method == 'POST': form = CostForm(request.POST) if form.is_valid(): instance = form.save(commit=False) instance.project = Project.objects.filter(title=offset) instance.date = request.date instance.cost = request.cost instance.save() return HttpResponseRedirect('/') else: form = CostForm() But it does not work :(

  • Can any linux API or tool watch for any change in any folder below e.g. /SharedRoot or do I have to

    - by Simon B.
    I have a folder with ~10 000 subfolders. Can any linux API or tool watch for any change in any folder below e.g. /SharedRoot or do I have to setup inotify for each folder? (i.e. I loose if I want to do this for 10k+ folders). I guess yes, since I've already seen examples of this inefficient method, for instance http://twistedmatrix.com/trac/browser/trunk/twisted/internet/inotify.py?rev=28866#L345 My problem: I need to keep folders time-sorted with most recently active "project" up top. When a file changes, each folder above that file should update its last-modified timestamp to match the file. Delays are ok. Opening a file (typically MS Excel) and closing again, its file date can jump up and then down again. For this reason I need to wait until after a file is closed, then queue the folder of that file for checking, and only a while later do I go and look for the newest file in its folder, since the filedate of the triggering file could already be back-dated to its original timestamp by Excel or similar programs. Also in case several files from same folder are used/created, it makes sense to buffer timestamping of that folders' parents to at least get a bunch of updates collapsed into one delayed update. I'm looking for a linux solution. I have some code that can be run on a windows server, most of the queing functionality is here: http://github.com/sesam/FolderdateFollowsFiles/blob/master/FolderdateFollowsFiles/Follower.vb Available API:s The relative of inotify on windows, ReadDirectoryChangesW, can watch a folder and its whole subtree; see bWatchSubtree on http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa365465(VS.85).aspx Samba? Patching samba source is a possibility, but perhaps there are already hooks available? Other possibilities, like client side (various windows versions) and spying on file activities in order to update folders recursively?

  • Django db encoding

    - by realshadow
    Hey, I have a little problem with encoding. The data in db is ok, when I select the data in php its ok. Problem comes when I get the data and try to print it in the template, I get - Å port instead of Šport, etc. Everything is set to utf-8 - in settings.py, meta tags in template, db table and I even have unicode method specified for the model, but nothing seems to work. I am getting pretty hopeless here... Here is some code: class Category_info(models.Model): objtree_label_id = models.AutoField(primary_key = True) node_id = models.IntegerField(unique = True) language_id = models.IntegerField() label = models.CharField(max_length = 255) type_id = models.IntegerField() class Meta: db_table = 'objtree_labels' def __unicode__(self): return self.label I have even tried with return u"%s" % self.label. Here is the view: def categories_list(request): categories_list = Category.objects.filter(parent_id = 1, status = 1) paginator = Paginator(categories_list, 10) try: page = int(request.GET.get('page', 1)) except ValueError: page = 1 try: categories = paginator.page(page) except (EmptyPage, InvalidPage): categories = paginator.page(paginator.num_pages) return render_to_response('categories_list.html', {'categories': categories}) Maybe I am just blind and/or stupid, but it just doesnt work. So any help is appreciated, thanks in advance. Regards

  • Save PyML.classifiers.multi.OneAgainstRest(SVM()) object?

    - by Michael Aaron Safyan
    I'm using PYML to construct a multiclass linear support vector machine (SVM). After training the SVM, I would like to be able to save the classifier, so that on subsequent runs I can use the classifier right away without retraining. Unfortunately, the .save() function is not implemented for that classifier, and attempting to pickle it (both with standard pickle and cPickle) yield the following error message: pickle.PicklingError: Can't pickle : it's not found as __builtin__.PySwigObject Does anyone know of a way around this or of an alternative library without this problem? Thanks. Edit/Update I am now training and attempting to save the classifier with the following code: mc = multi.OneAgainstRest(SVM()); mc.train(dataset_pyml,saveSpace=False); for i, classifier in enumerate(mc.classifiers): filename=os.path.join(prefix,labels[i]+".svm"); classifier.save(filename); Notice that I am now saving with the PyML save mechanism rather than with pickling, and that I have passed "saveSpace=False" to the training function. However, I am still gettting an error: ValueError: in order to save a dataset you need to train as: s.train(data, saveSpace = False) However, I am passing saveSpace=False... so, how do I save the classifier(s)? P.S. The project I am using this in is pyimgattr, in case you would like a complete testable example... the program is run with "./pyimgattr.py train"... that will get you this error. Also, a note on version information: [michaelsafyan@codemage /Volumes/Storage/classes/cse559/pyimgattr]$ python Python 2.6.1 (r261:67515, Feb 11 2010, 00:51:29) [GCC 4.2.1 (Apple Inc. build 5646)] on darwin Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. import PyML print PyML.__version__ 0.7.0

  • jqGrid Sort or Search does not work with columns having json dot notation

    - by rsmoorthy
    I have this jqGrid: $("#report").jqGrid( { url: '/py/db?coll=report', datatype: 'json', height: 250, colNames: ['ACN', 'Status', 'Amount'], colModel: [ {name:'acn', sortable:true}, {name:'meta.status', sortable:true}, {name:amount} ], caption: 'Show Report', rownumbers: true, gridview: true, rowNum: 10, rowList: [10,20,30], pager: '#report_pager', viewrecords: true, sortname: 'acn', sortorder: "desc", altRows: true, loadonce: true, mtype: "GET", rowTotal: 1000, jsonReader: { root: "rows", page: "page", total: "total", records: "records", repeatitems: false, id: "acn" } }); Notice that the column 'meta.status' is in JSON dot notation and accordingly the data sent from the server is like this: {"page": "1", "total": "1", "records": "5", "rows": [ {"acn":1,"meta": {"status":"Confirmed"}, "amount": 50}, {"acn":2,"meta": {"status":"Started"}, "amount": 51}, {"acn":3,"meta": {"status":"Stopped"}, "amount": 52}, {"acn":4,"meta": {"status":"Working"}, "amount": 53}, {"acn":5,"meta": {"status":"Started"}, "amount": 54} ] } The problems are of two fold: Sorting does not work on columns with dot notation, here "meta.status". It does not even show the sortable icons on the column header, and nothing happens even if the header is clicked. Sorting does not work, whether loadonce is true or false. If I try Searching (after setting loadonce to true) for the column meta.status (other columns without dot notation is okay), then it throws up a javascript error like this. Any help? Thanks Moorthy

  • Fixing a multi-threaded pycurl crash.

    - by Rook
    If I run pycurl in a single thread everything works great. If I run pycurl in 2 threads python will access violate. The first thing I did was report the problem to pycurl, but the project died about 3 years ago so I'm not holding my breath. My (hackish) solution is to build a 2nd version of pycurl called "pycurl_thread" which will only be used by the 2nd thread. I downloaded the pycurl module from sourceforge and I made a total of 4 line changes. But python is still crashing. My guess is that even though this is a module with a different name (import pycurl_thread), its still sharing memory with the original module (import pycurl). How should I solve this problem? Changes in pycurl.c: initpycurl(void) to initpycurl_thread(void) and m = Py_InitModule3("pycurl", curl_methods, module_doc); to m = Py_InitModule3("pycurl_thread", curl_methods, module_doc); Changes in setup.py: PACKAGE = "pycurl" PY_PACKAGE = "curl" to PACKAGE = "pycurl_thread" PY_PACKAGE = "curl_thread" Here is the seg fault i'm getting. • Problem running a Python program, error: Name 's' is not defined.

    - by Sergio Tapia
    Here's my code: #This is a game to guess a random number. import random guessTaken = 0 print("Hello! What's your name kid") myName = input() number = random.randint(1,20) print("Well, " + myName + ", I'm thinking of a number between 1 and 20.") while guessTaken < 6: print("Take a guess.") guess = input() guess = int(guess) guessTaken = guessTaken + 1 if guess < number: print("You guessed a little bit too low.") if guess > number: print("You guessed a little too high.") if guess == number: break if guess == number: guessTaken = str(guessTaken) print("Well done " + myName + "! I think the problem may be that I have Python 3 installed, but the program is being interpreted by Python 2.6. I'm using Linux Mint if that can help you guys help me. Using Geany as the IDE and pressing F5 to test it. It may be loading 2.6 by default, but I don't really know. :( Edit: Error 1 is: File "GuessingGame.py", line 8, in <Module> myName = input() Error 2 is: File <string>, line 1, in <Module>

  • Zoom image to pixel level

    - by zaf
    For an art project, one of the things I'll be doing is zooming in on an image to a particular pixel. I've been rubbing my chin and would love some advice on how to proceed. Here are the input parameters: Screen: sw - screen width sh - screen height Image: iw - image width ih - image height Pixel: px - x position of pixel in image py - y position of pixel in image Zoom: zf - zoom factor (0.0 to 1.0) Background colour: bc - background colour to use when screen and image aspect ratios are different Outputs: The zoomed image (no anti-aliasing) The screen position/dimensions of the pixel we are zooming to. When zf is 0 the image must fit the screen with correct aspect ratio. When zf is 1 the selected pixel fits the screen with correct aspect ratio. One idea I had was to use something like povray and move the camera towards a big image texture or some library (e.g. pygame) to do the zooming. Anyone think of something more clever with simple pseudo code? To keep it more simple you can make the image and screen have the same aspect ratio. I can live with that. I'll update with more info as its required.

  • Message queue proxy in Python + Twisted

    - by gasper_k
    Hi, I want to implement a lightweight Message Queue proxy. It's job is to receive messages from a web application (PHP) and send them to the Message Queue server asynchronously. The reason for this proxy is that the MQ isn't always avaliable and is sometimes lagging, or even down, but I want to make sure the messages are delivered, and the web application returns immediately. So, PHP would send the message to the MQ proxy running on the same host. That proxy would save the messages to SQLite for persistence, in case of crashes. At the same time it would send the messages from SQLite to the MQ in batches when the connection is available, and delete them from SQLite. Now, the way I understand, there are these components in this service: message listener (listens to the messages from PHP and writes them to a Incoming Queue) DB flusher (reads messages from the Incoming Queue and saves them to a database; due to SQLite single-threadedness) MQ connection handler (keeps the connection to the MQ server online by reconnecting) message sender (collects messages from SQlite db and sends them to the MQ server, then removes them from db) I was thinking of using Twisted for #1 (TCPServer), but I'm having problem with integrating it with other points, which aren't event-driven. Intuition tells me that each of these points should be running in a separate thread, because all are IO-bound and independent of each other, but I could easily put them in a single thread. Even though, I couldn't find any good and clear (to me) examples on how to implement this worker thread aside of Twisted's main loop. The example I've started with is the chatserver.py, which uses service.Application and internet.TCPServer objects. If I start my own thread prior to creating TCPServer service, it runs a few times, but the it stops and never runs again. I'm not sure, why this is happening, but it's probably because I don't use threads with Twisted correctly. Any suggestions on how to implement a separate worker thread and keep Twisted? Do you have any alternative architectures in mind?

  • How to convert from hex-encoded string to a "human readable" string?

    - by John Jensen
    I'm using the Net-SNMP bindings for python and I'm attempting to grab an ARP cache from a Brocade switch. Here's what my code looks like: #!/usr/bin/env python import netsnmp def get_arp(): oid = netsnmp.VarList(netsnmp.Varbind('ipNetToMediaPhysAddress')) res = netsnmp.snmpwalk(oid, Version=2, DestHost='10.0.1.243', Community='public') return res arp_table = get_arp() print arp_table The SNMP code itself is working fine. Output from snmpwalk looks like this: <snip> IP-MIB::ipNetToMediaPhysAddress.128.10.200.6.158 = STRING: 0:1b:ed:a3:ec:c1 IP-MIB::ipNetToMediaPhysAddress.129.10.200.6.162 = STRING: 0:1b:ed:a4:ac:c1 IP-MIB::ipNetToMediaPhysAddress.130.10.200.6.166 = STRING: 0:1b:ed:38:24:1 IP-MIB::ipNetToMediaPhysAddress.131.10.200.6.170 = STRING: 74:8e:f8:62:84:1 </snip> But my output from the python script yields a tuple of hex-encoded strings that looks like this: ('\x00$8C\x98\xc1', '\x00\x1b\xed;_A', '\x00\x1b\xed\xb4\x8f\x81', '\x00$86\x15\x81', '\x00$8C\x98\x81', '\x00\x1b\xed\x9f\xadA', ...etc) I've spent some time googling and came across the struct module and the .decode("hex") string method, but the .decode("hex") method doesn't seem to work: Python 2.7.3 (default, Apr 10 2013, 06:20:15) [GCC 4.6.3] on linux2 Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information. >>> hexstring = '\x00$8C\x98\xc1' >>> newstring = hexstring.decode("hex") Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> File "/usr/lib/python2.7/encodings/hex_codec.py", line 42, in hex_decode output = binascii.a2b_hex(input) TypeError: Non-hexadecimal digit found >>> And the documentation for struct is a bit over my head.

  • Can I compare a template variable to an integer in Django/App Engine templates?

    - by matt b
    Using Django templates in Google App Engine (on Python), is it possible to compare a template variable to an integer in an {% if %} block? views.py: class MyHandler(webapp.RequestHandler): def get(self): foo_list = db.GqlQuery(...) ... template_values['foos'] = foo_list template_values['foo_count'] = len(foo_list) handler.response.out.write(template.render(...)) My template: {% if foo_count == 1 %} There is one foo. {% endif %} This blows up with 'if' statement improperly formatted. What I was attempting to do in my template was build a simple if/elif/else tree to be grammatically correct to be able to state #foo_count == 0: There are no foos. #foo_count == 1: There is one foo. #else: There are {{ foos|length }} foos. Browsing the Django template documents (this link provided in the GAE documentation appears to be for versions of Django far newer than what is supported on GAE), it appears as if I can only actually use boolean operators (if in fact boolean operators are supported in this older version of Django) with strings or other template variables. Is it not possible to compare variables to integers or non-strings with Django templates? I'm sure there is an easy way to workaround this - built up the message string on the Python side rather than within the template - but this seems like such a simple operation you ought to be able to handle in a template. It sounds like I should be switching to a more advanced templating engine, but as I am new to Django (templates or any part of it), I'd just like some confirmation first.

  • How to I pass parameters to Ruby/Python scripts from inside PHP?

    - by Roger
    Hi, everybody. I need to turn HTML into equivalent Markdown-structured text. From what I could discover, I have only two good choices: Python: Aaron Swartz's html2text.py Ruby: Singpolyma's html2markdown.rb As I am programming in PHP, I need to pass the HTML code, call the Ruby/Python Script and receive the output back. I started creating a simple test just to know if my server was configured to run both languages. PHP code: echo exec('./hi.rb'); Ruby code: #!/usr/bin/ruby puts "Hello World!" It worked fine and I am ready to go to the next step. Unfortunately, all I know is that the function is Ruby works like this: HTML2Markdown.new('<h1>HTMLcode</h1>').to_s I don't know how to make PHP pass the string (with the HTML code) to Ruby nor how to make the ruby script receive the variable and pass it back to PHP (after have parsed it into Markdown). Believe it or not: I know less of Python. A folk made a similar question here ("how to call ruby script from php?") but with no practical information to my case. Any help would be a joy - thanks. • Django Database design -- Is this a good stragety for overriding defaults

    - by rh0dium
    Hi SO's I have a question on good database design practices and I would like to leverage you guys for pointers. The project started out simple. Hey we have a bunch of questions we want answered for every project (no problem) Which turned into... Hey we have so many questions can we group them into sections (yup we can do that) Which lead into.. Can we weight these questions and I don't really want some of these questions for my project (Yes but we are getting difficult) And then I'm thinking they will want to have each section have it's own weight.. Requirements So there's the requirements - For n number of project Allow a admin member the ability select the questions for a project Allow the admin member to re-weigh or use the default weights for the questions Allow the admin member to re-weight the sections Allow team members to answer the questions. So here is what I came up with. Please feel free to comment and provide better examples models.py from django.db import models from django.contrib.sites.models import Site from django.conf import settings class Section(models.Model): """ This describes the various sections for a checklist: """ name = models.CharField(max_length=64) description = models.TextField() class Question(models.Model): """ This simply provides a simple way to list out the questions. """ question = models.CharField(max_length=255) answer_type = models.CharField(max_length=16) description = models.TextField() section = models.ForeignKey(Section) class ProjectQuestion(models.Model): """ These are the questions relevant to the project """ question = models.ForeignKey(Question) answer = models.CharField(max_length=255) required = models.BooleanField(default=True) weight = models.FloatField(default = XXX) class Project(models.Model): """ Here is where we want to gather our questions """ questions = models.ManyToManyField(ProjectQuestion) Immediate questions: - When I start a project - any ideas on how to "pre-populate" the questions (and ultimately the weights) for the project? - Is there a generally accepted method for doing this process that I am missing? Basically the idea that you refer to the questions overide your own default weight, and store the answer? - It appears that a good chuck of the work will be done in the views and that a lot of checking will need to occur there? Is that OK? Again - feel free to give me better strategies!! Thanks

  • Installing PIL on Cygwin

    I've been struggling all morning to get PIL installed on Cygwin. The errors I get are not consistent with common errors I find using Google. Perhaps a linux guru can see an obvious problem in this output: $ python setup.py install running install running build running build_py running build_ext building '_imaging' extension gcc -fno-strict-aliasing -DNDEBUG -g -fwrapv -O3 -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -DHAVE_LIBZ -I/usr/include/freetype2 -IlibImaging -I/usr/include -I/usr/include/python2.5 -c _imaging.c -o build/temp.cygwin-1.7.2-i686-2.5/_imaging.o In file included from /usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-cygwin/3.4.4/include/syslimits.h:7, from /usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-cygwin/3.4.4/include/limits.h:11, from /usr/include/python2.5/Python.h:18, from _imaging.c:75: /usr/lib/gcc/i686-pc-cygwin/3.4.4/include/limits.h:122:61: limits.h: No such file or directory In file included from _imaging.c:75: /usr/include/python2.5/Python.h:32:19: stdio.h: No such file or directory /usr/include/python2.5/Python.h:34:5: #error "Python.h requires that stdio.h define NULL." /usr/include/python2.5/Python.h:37:20: string.h: No such file or directory /usr/include/python2.5/Python.h:39:19: errno.h: No such file or directory /usr/include/python2.5/Python.h:41:20: stdlib.h: No such file or directory /usr/include/python2.5/Python.h:43:20: unistd.h: No such file or directory /usr/include/python2.5/Python.h:55:20: assert.h: No such file or directory In file included from /usr/include/python2.5/Python.h:57, from _imaging.c:75: /usr/include/python2.5/pyport.h:7:20: stdint.h: No such file or directory In file included from /usr/include/python2.5/Python.h:57, from _imaging.c:75: /usr/include/python2.5/pyport.h:89: error: parse error before "Py_uintptr_t" /usr/include/python2.5/pyport.h:89: warning: type defaults to `int' in declaration of `Py_uintptr_t' /usr/include/python2.5/pyport.h:89: warning: data definition has no type or storage class /usr/include/python2.5/pyport.h:90: error: parse error before "Py_intptr_t" /usr/include/python2.5/pyport.h:90: warning: type defaults to `int' in declaration of `Py_intptr_t' ... more lines like this

  • Compiling scipy on Windows 32-bit

    Has anyone tried compiling SciPy on Windows using numpy-1.3.0 that was built with the pre-built ATLAS libraries (atlas3.6.0_WinNT_P4SSE2.zip) linked in the installation document. • Building a ctypes-"based" C library with distutils

    - by Robie Basak
    Following this recommendation, I have written a native C extension library to optimise part of a Python module via ctypes. I chose ctypes over writing a CPython-native library because it was quicker and easier (just a few functions with all tight loops inside). I've now hit a snag. If I want my work to be easily installable using distutils using python setup.py install, then distutils needs to be able to build my shared library and install it (presumably into /usr/lib/myproject). However, this not a Python extension module, and so as far as I can tell, distutils cannot do this. I've found a few references to people other people with this problem: Someone on numpy-discussion with a hack back in 2006. Somebody asking on distutils-sig and not getting an answer. Somebody asking on the main python list and being pointed to the innards of an existing project. I am aware that I can do something native and not use distutils for the shared library, or indeed use my distribution's packaging system. My concern is that this will limit usability as not everyone will be able to install it easily. So my question is: what is the current best way of distributing a shared library with distutils that will be used by ctypes but otherwise is OS-native and not a Python extension module? Feel free to answer with one of the hacks linked to above if you can expand on it and justify why that is the best way. If there is nothing better, at least all the information will be in one place.

  • How to compare 2 lists and merge them in Python/MySQL?

    - by NJTechGuy
    I want to merge data. Following are my MySQL tables. I want to use Python to traverse though a list of both Lists (one with dupe = 'x' and other with null dupes). For instance : a b c d e f key dupe -------------------- 1 d c f k l 1 x 2 g h j 1 3 i h u u 2 4 u r t 2 x From the above sample table, the desired output is : a b c d e f key dupe -------------------- 2 g c h k j 1 3 i r h u u 2 What I have so far : import string, os, sys import MySQLdb from EncryptedFile import EncryptedFile enc = EncryptedFile( os.getenv("HOME") + '/.py-encrypted-file') user = enc.getValue("user") pw = enc.getValue("pw") db = MySQLdb.connect(host="127.0.0.1", user=user, passwd=pw,db=user) cursor = db.cursor() cursor2 = db.cursor() cursor.execute("select * from delThisTable where dupe is null") cursor2.execute("select * from delThisTable where dupe is not null") result = cursor.fetchall() result2 = cursor2.fetchall() for cursorFieldname in cursor.description: for cursorFieldname2 in cursor2.description: if cursorFieldname[0] == cursorFieldname2[0]: ### How do I compare the record with same key value and update the original row null field value with the non-null value from the duplicate? Please fill this void... cursor.close() cursor2.close() db.close() Thanks guys!

  • Django notification get date one accesses a link

    - by dana
    hi there, i'm making a notification system, so that a user in a virtual community to be announced when someone sends him a message, or starts following him (the follow relation is like a friend relation, but it is not necessarily reciprocal) my view function: def notification_view(request, last_checked): u = Relation.objects.filter(date_follow>Notification.objects.get(last_checked=last_checked)) v = Message.objects.filter(date>Notification.objects.get(last_checked=last_checked)) if u: notification_type = follow if notice_settings == receive_notification or notice_settings == only_follow following = u if v: notification_type = message if notice_settings == receive_notification or notice_settings == only_messages message = v return render_to_response('notification/notification.html', { 'following': following, 'message':message, }, context_instance=RequestContext(request)) the models.py: class NoticeType(models.Model): follow = models.ForeignKey(Relations, editable = False) message = models.ForeignKey(Messages) classroom_invitation = models.ForeignKey(Classroom) class Notification(models.Model): receiver = models.ForeignKey(User, editable=False) date = models.DateTimeField(auto_now=True, editable = False) notice_type = models.ForeignKey(NoticeType, editable = False, related_name = "notification_type") sent = models.BooleanField(default = True) last_checked = models.DateTimeField(auto_now=True, editable = False) class NotificationSettings(models.Model): user = models.ForeignKey(User) receive_notifications = models.BooleanField(default = True) only_follow = models.BooleanField(default = False) only_message = models.BooleanField(default = False) only_classroom = models.BooleanField(default = False) #receive_on_email = models.BooleanField(default = False) my problem is: i want last_checked to be the time when someone acceses a link (the notification link). How can i possibily save that time? how can i get it? thanks in avance!

  • What are simple instructions for creating a Python package structure and egg?

    - by froadie
    I just completed my first (minor) Python project, and my boss wants me to package it nicely so that it can be distributed and called from other programs easily. He suggested I look into eggs. I've been googling and reading, but I'm just getting confused. Most of the sites I'm looking at explain how to use Python eggs that were already created, or how to create an egg from a setup.py file (which I don't yet have). All I have now is an Eclipse pydev project with about 4 modules and a settings/configuration file. In easy steps, how do I go about structuring it into folders/packages and compiling it into an egg? And once it's an egg, what do I have to know about deploying/building/using it? I'm really starting from scratch here, so don't assume I know anything; simple step-by-step instructions would be really helpful... These are some of the sites that I've been looking at so far: http://peak.telecommunity.com/DevCenter/PythonEggs http://www.packtpub.com/article/writing-a-package-in-python http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/library/l-cppeak3.html#N10232 I've also browsed a few SO questions but haven't really found what I need. Thanks!

  • how to number t-rows ,when table generated using nested forloop in django templates

    - by stackover
    Hi, This part is from views.py results=[(A,[stuObj1,stuObj2,stuObj3]),(B,[stuObj4,stuObj5,stuObj6]),(C,[stuObj7,stuObj8])] for tup in results: total = tot+len(tup[1]) render_to_response(url,{'results':res , 'total':str(tot),}) this is template code: <th class="name">Name</th> <th class="id">Student ID</th> <th class="grade">Grade</th> {% for tup in results %} {% for student in tup|last %} {% with forloop.parentloop.counter as parentid%} {% with forloop.counter as centerid%} <tbody class="results-body"> <tr> <td>{{student.fname|lower|capfirst}} {{student.lname|lower|capfirst}}</td> <td>{{student.id}}</td> <td>{{tup|first}}</td> </tr> {% endfor %} {% endfor %} Now the problems am having are 1. numbering the rows. Here my problem is am not sure if i can do things like total=total-1 in the templates to get the numbered rows like <td>{{total}}</td> 2.applying css to tr:ever or odd. Whats happening in this case is everytime the loop is running the odd/even ordering is lost. these seems related problems. Any ideas would be great :)
