  • Communication between Page and User Controls

    I have a main page that has multiple user controls on it. All the user controls have static text and some data to be retrieved from the DB. The aysnchronous DB call is clubbed at the page level and one call is made to avoid multiple calls (in the different user controls) to get the same data. I want the page and user controls to load initially with the static text and later refresh the contents obtained from the server. To sum it all up, Page Loads = Asyn calls fired on page load = Data received back from the server (XML/text/whatever) = User controls to load with this data using AJAX. What methods do I have to let the user controls know that I have the data from the server and they need to update with this data?

  • install software in linux as a non root user

    Hi, What is the best way to install software in a linux machine if you dont have root permissions. I know that we can use few variables like PKG_CONFIG_PATH and switches like --prefix with configure to get a software installed in a local directory, but sometimes when there are recursive dependencies it is becoming tough for me to install all the packages manually. Is there a better automated way? Update: What i meant by recursive dependencies is: to install package A, i should install package B, which in turn requires package C to be installed

  • How to remove the graphical user interface?

    Ok my question is that, I want to run a heavy application, on a Virtual Machine (VirtualBox) with just 2 GB RAM (Windows 7 32Bit Host has 4 GB, 3.5 GB effective). Initially I thought of installing Ubuntu Server 12.04.1, which doesn't come with a GUI, so I thought it would be efficient in performance, but I have only Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop. My question is, is it possible to remove the GUI parts in Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop (Not Server), keeping only the core OS, after installation in a virtual machine? Or, is there anyway to improve the performance of the OS? If you need more information, I am ready to provide. I don't want the GUI or anything, even a small terminal window is fine for me, I can access files through FTP.

  • Excluding standard directories from code coverage results with C++/CLI

    I have a Visual Studio 2010 .NET 4 solution with C# projects and a C++/CLI project. I use Visual Studio's built in unit tests and code coverage. Other than the fact that Visual Studio 2010 coverage tool for C++/CLI projects seems to be much weaker than Visual Studio 2008 coverage tool, I get weird results. For example, I get uncovered code in this file: c:\program files (x86)\microsoft visual studio 10.0\vc\include\xstring And some other files in that directory. I want to exclude this code from coverage results. Is there a way to put some exclude attributes on that code? If not, is there a different automatic way to exclude that code from coverage? If not, is there a way to use EXCLUDE option to exclude it? Can it be done automatically within Visual Studio without running the coverage tool from command prompt? Any other solutions?

    I am new to game development but familiar with programming languages. I have started using Flixel and have a working Breakout game with score and lives. What I am trying to do is add a Start Screen before actually loading the game. I have a create function that adds all the game elements to the stage: override public function create():void // all game elements { How can I add this pre-load Start Screen? I'm not sure if I have to add in the code to this create function or somewhere else and what code to actually add. Eventually I would also like to add saving, loading, options and upgrades too. So any advice with that would be great.     Hi all, I want to able to create reusable user controls within my web app and i'm wondering on how to go about doing so. Should a user controls properties be visible to a form that's using it? What's the best way to go about loading the controls on the user control from the form thats using it? Should there be a public method within the control that allows you to load it from an external form or should the user control be loaded in the page load event Is it okay to nest user controls within user controls? etc...   • Great User Group if based near Gloucester + Links from Entity Framework 4.0 session

    I had a really fun evening doing “my final” EF 4.0 session last night (26th May 2010) at GL.NET based out of Gloucester (although secretly I made it into a IronRuby and Windows Azure session). They are a great crowd and Jimmy makes for a fantastic host + it is a very nice venue (Symantec offices in Gloucester, lots of parking, good room etc) + free pizza + free SWAG + trip to pub afterwards (the topics were very varied!). What more could you ask for? The next session is June 16th and will be on multi-tenanted ASP.NET MVC and comes highly recommended.   • Securely automount encrypted drive at user login

    An encrypted /home directory gets mounted automatically for me when I log in. I have a second internal hard drive that I've formatted and encrypted with Disk Utility. I want it to be automatically mounted when I login, just like my encrypted /home directory is. How do I do this? There are several very similar questions here, but the answers don't apply to my situation. It might be best to close/merge my question here and edit the second one below, but I think it may have been abandoned (and therefore never to be marked as accepted). This solution isn't a secure method, it circumvents the encryption. This one requires editing fstab, which necessitates entering an additional password at boot. It's not automatic like mounting /home. This question is very similar, but does not apply to an encrypted drive. The solution won't work for my needs. Here is one but it's for NTFS drives, mine is ext4. I can re-format and re-encrypt the second drive if a solution requires this. I've got all the data backed up elsewhere.

  • Database: storing data from user registration form

    Let's say I have an user registration form. In this form, I have the option for the user to upload a photo. I have an User table and Photo table. My User table has a "PathToPhoto" column. My question is how do I fill in the "PathToPhoto" column if the photo is uploaded and inserted into Photo table before the user is created? Another way to phrase my question is how to get the newly uploaded photo to be associated to the user that may or may not be created next. I'm using python and postgresql.

  • User directory in PATH in zsh: ~ Does Not Work

    I'm doing this in my .zshrc PATH="~/scripts:$PATH" and if I do echo $PATH it appears as the first thing in the path. Yet this directory isn't included in the executable path (nor for tab-completion). What am I doing wrong? ls ~/scripts shows the directory as expected. Edit: This works, though... I guess ~ doesn't work in the path? #PATH="~/scripts:$PATH" PATH="/Users/yar/scripts:$PATH"

  • How to manage product backlog/user stories

    We're about to start a new project using Agile (using TFS), and I have a couple of "good practice" questions regarding the product backlog:- When we first start adding users stories, is it a good idea to put them in (say) a "Backlog" iteration, or just leave their iteration blank? Obviously when the time comes to start work on a US it would be moved into the appropriate iteration backlog. When breaking an epic down into smaller USs, would I simply close the original epic, as it's no longer required? Or should I create the new USs as children of the epic? (it's then someone's responsibility to close the epic once all child USs have been completed). Lastly, should the product backlog list all USs regardless of status, or only those that have not been started (i.e in my proposed "Backlog" iteration)? I realise these questions aren't life-or-death, but it would be nice to know how other people manage their product backlogs so we can organise things properly from the start.

  • Weird problem: IE8 user can't authenticate with web service

    I have an asp.net app. It has a page that requires authentication. The authenticated user can view the page because he/she is authenticated. The page makes a jQuery Ajax call to a WCF service. The WCF service checks that the user is authenticated via HttpContext. I have a user that is using WinXP and IE8. This user can authenticate to the page, but when the Ajax call is made from the page to the wb service, the user recieves my "session not authenticated" message on the page, generated by the service and displayed on the page. When I use the same OS/browser combo, the page and service work just fine, as expected; no errors. What option in this user's IE settings would cause this behavior?

  • Oracle XE as local recovery database and Oracle Standard as main db

    Hi, I just wanted to know what you guys think about this. I have an app written in Visual Basic .Net as my front end and and Oracle 11g Standart database as the back-end. So I have like 20 pc's running this app locally. They're all inserting, updating, deleting data on this single database. I want to develop a solution in the case that the server database crashes or cannot stay on line. So i think of having oracle 10g XE on each pc. Thus all the data will be stored in the local db. I think about running a proccess once in a while (ex. every 15 minutes) to send/get the data to/from the main server. What do you think about this strategy?

    Hi, How can I check the mysql connection for a user/password using batch/shell script? I've user name and password, and I need to authenticate whether they are correct or not, but how? I tried this way: I've created a batch file "run.bat" with "mysql -u User--password=UserPassword < commands.sql" "commands.sql" file contains "\q" When I run the file "run.bat" the output is nothing when User/Password are correct and "ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user ... " when User/Password are incorrect. Now can we capture this output, and decide whether the connection is successful or not, if yes how? Regards

    i tried everything since days, now i ask. i got a ubuntu system on my old hdd, wich is connectet via usb to this system and a sdd is build in my notebook. at the moment i am running a ubuntusystem from an usb stick. it have tried to clone my disk(cahnge uiid, etc), to transport the data via deja dup and much more. the result was nothing or strange things. my idea is to copy the important data form the old system to the new(home and whatever), but it is not allowed to do this. somebody her who know a tool wich can do this, or got an an other idea.

  • Installing MoinMoin -wiki to my user directory on a server with no root access

    Hello all, I've been trying to install MoinMoin -wiki on this webserver, where I have no root access. The server doesn't support wsgi, but it does support cgi/fcgi/etc. I've scoured google for a simple guide on how to accomplish this, but the only guides I found were from the year 2004 or so. Other guides always assumed that one has root access. So can anyone link a good tutorial for my question or just help me out here? Your help is appreciated :) P.S.
