  • How to share a USB modem?

    Usually I wouldn't have this problem if it was a dsl modem or cable modem but it's really been difficult for me to share this little modem to other computers. Right now I have my laptop connected to a hub, both computers are in the same workgroup and I have "share this computer internet to other computers"... etc. Problem is, I don't know what is currently happening... I'm hoping someone would guide me, I have googled and some people have been successful at sharing the connection but it seems I'm missing something =/ Let me know if you need any details, thanks

  • USB drive dead after stopping copying process on Snow Leopard Server

    Hi there I was copying to a flash drive from our Snow Leopard server when I stopped the copying process half way through. The device then disappeared from the Desktop. So I unplugged it and plugged it right back in. The device just didn't show up. I unplugged it and plugged it into a Windows XP machine as well as a Windows 7 machine. On both machines, I right clicked "My Computer" and selected "Manage…". On both PC's, the device was located under Removable Storage, but had no size and no drive letter. It shows up in "My Computer", but when I choose "Format…" from the right-click menu (context menu), it says the drive could not be formatted. Can someone please advise me? The flash drives is about 5 mins old and should have no reason to be dead. I really can't loose this drive (I don't need the data on it, I just need it to work again), any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • Synaptics/usb mouse drivers data is invalid on win server 2003

    Have just installed windows server 2003 image onto an HP laptop. Cannot get the mouse drivers to work. Have the correct drivers because I've extracted them out of a working PC (exact same model). I am always getting "Data is invalid". This is the synaptics touchpad drivers. Does anyone know how to fix this/ workaround to get mouse working? I have heard it may have something to do with permissions in the registry?

  • Cannot install CentOS 6.5 using UEFI usb boot

    I am trying to dual-boot CentOS 6.5 on my desktop that is currently running Windows 8.1. I have two storage devices: an SSD that has my Windows installation, and an HDD that has all of my data. Both are formatted using GPT, and Windows boots using UEFI. I used the CentOS 6.5 live DVD (CentOS-6.5-x86_64-LiveDVD.iso) to create an EFI-bootable flash drive (it does boot properly in EFI mode). I receive an error, however, when CentOS is booting (error is below). I have a 6.4 boot DVD which boots as expected, but it does not boot in UEFI mode and therefore doesn't play nicely with my Windows installation (I have no way to access it, even using rEFInd or any other similar tools).   • How to Install OS without DVD and USB boot

    I just purchased a used Dell F1D 1U rack mount server and would like to install Ubuntu or ESXi with Virtual Disks or anything for that matter. I'v read that Dell's have built in DRAC so you can access it remotely. There are 3 ethernet plugs in the back but I dont know which one to use. In the BIOS it says I can configure Remote access on [com1] or [com2] not sure if that is ethernet 1 & 2. I also set it up so to use a static IP adress. Thats as far as I have gone. Not sure what to do next. I'v Tried to do a PXE server with TFTP but get stuck at Error "cant locate file" or something like that. Not even sure I want to go that route anymore because of all the hassel of editing files. All my computers are OSX or Linux and the only Windows I have is via VMWare. What steps to i do now?

  • My iPhone is stuck at screen with USB cable and iTunes logo

    I just tried updating the iPhone's firmware, and things went haywire. iTunes informed the update had failed and linked me to this page. The iPhone is stuck on the image from the top of that page. I held down the sleep and home buttons until it turned off and turned it back on, and then went through the iPhone's 'restore' mode. It then error'd again and I'm stuck back with the logos on the iPhone. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks

    My google-fu must be sucking. i havent been able to find a good solution for the following: numerous Linux server on commodity hardware Trying to do a recovery mirror copy to external harddrives External harddrives are smaller than source harddrives, but larger than data External drives are connected via usb2 (slow) Servers range from 20GB of data to 400GB of data Servers are remote, so hands on access is a pain need to copy boot files. empty external drives currently Basicly, looking for a way to do use a ghosting solution from INSIDE a running linux server to an external harddrive, without booting a cd etc. the rsync/cpio solutions i've looked at dont work great with grub/dev/proc etc. I understand that since the system isnt offline, it wont be a "mirror" image as files change, but thats ok. Are there any free/commercial products that would work?

    I recently installed Windows 8 on one of my four primary partitions. I had two partitions for Windows 7 (boot and os), one for the Windows System Recovery Environment and the last for Ubuntu. I was often using Ubuntu, but after the installation of Windows 8 Pro I couldn't boot in it because it needed the reinstallation of GRUB2. So I thought to do it by Terminal in a live cd; but when I tried to boot the Live CD, it booted me Windows 8 Pro. This is a problem of UEFI, Secure Boot or my BIOS? It didn't happen never before now. And if it's a problem of Secure Boot, how to disable it? Thanks in advance, Sho.

  • harddrive problem (usb external)

    Hey guys I am using a Maxtor One Touch 3 given to my by my uncle. It is connected through USB2.0 When I plug it in, XP installs it and says "the device is ready to use". But it dosnt show up on my computer. It dosn't even show up in disk mangement. I then install Acronis Disk Director (which detects it) but marks it as offline. if i try to change it to online, nothing happens. (actually the lights on the HD blink - meaning communication and goes back into offline mode). The lights on the HD return to a solid which mean "working properly".     I am trying to install the drivers for my HTC Magic (2.1) and my iPod Touch "3G" 8GB (4.1), but when I plug them in, neither of them successfully install their drivers. They work perfectly fine when running on Windows natively, why are they behaving like this on Virtual Box? I am using Windows 7 (AMD64) - Natively & Non Natively. I need it to also find if there are videos in a certain location on the device that is plugged in then write them to a videos.txt file. Here's what I have and its not working. The problem is that the application works fine on Windows 7 and when run on Win XP, it swaps the partitions but doesn't run the flash applications but just keeps running in the background. I can see it in task manager. But, when I copy the application to desktop and run, it runs with no glitch. I was facing the same problem on Win 7 too, but it was running as required when I ran it using "Run in XP mode" and then I applied a SHIM and is running since then as required. The application is built using VC++ 2008. What might be the problem?

  • How can I automatically switch to USB headset when plugged in?

    Whenever I plugged in my old audio jack headset, sound was immediately diverted from my speakers to the headset speakers, and the microphone was immediately available. When I plug in my new USB headset, I have to open Sound Preferences and switch both input and output to the headset. Is there any way to make this happen automatically? I'm using a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Pi laptop, Maverick and a Logitech H330 USB headset.
