  • How to install wordpress without a web browser

    What I am trying to do is to automate wordpress website creation for the company I am working on. We have lots of information in our database for our customers and we want to create a wordpress website for each customer. The process works great and we have no trouble with the creation of websites/transfer of data or anything like that. The problem we do have is when we buy a new domain (http://www.newdomain.com) our process breaks (we call a stored procedure which installs all the data after the URL is called to install wordpress) if the domain takes more than 15min to resolve. We have tried doing looping (where the process checks to see if the domain resolves and keeps trying - but eventually if fails). So what we are looking for is to see if there is a way to install an URL without actually having the domain resolve yet. I have seen where possibilities where you can change the wp-config file but this doesn't work since we have more than one domain and it changes the source URL for all the domains. What we really need is just a way for us to manually start the install script through a call either through a database or some other way that doesn't check to see if the domain is resolved or pointing at the server or not. Thank for any suggestions. EDIT: All we do to install wordpress is call this URL: http://"newdomain".com/wp-admin/install.php?step=2 - if you change settings in the backend calling this URL will install wordpress without having to go through the wp-admin/install.php form

  • Does my dd-wrt installation support firewall logging?

    I would like to log firewall events. I know this is possible with dd-wrt, but a lot of the documentation I've read states that this isn't possible with a micro installation of dd-wrt (based on BusyBox). I have a Netgear WNDR3700v2 router, and it does have BusyBox installed on it, but I don't know if the dd-wrt build is a micro build or not. How can I find this out, or how can I find out if my router supports firewall logging or not? Currently, if I enable all firewall logging (setting everything to "Enabled" and/or "High" gives me back blank firewall logs - but syslogd is working because I can view other system log messages).

  • web services access not being reached thru the web browser [closed]

    I am trying to reference my .asmx webservices in .NET but my server is not exposed to the internet. When I put on the following address I get the message mentioned below. What's the reason for not being able to see the directory? Am I missing something in my IIS configuraction? Am I missing anything in my permissions? Just as reference I have other folders with webservices and I have the same issue. When I login to the server I am doing it with my windows user and password (I am using windows authentication). It's necessary to mention that when I put the URL I am getting a popup screen to put in my userid and password but it seems that's not able to validate since keeps asking me a couple of times.   • Any consumer routers with Outgoing VPN support?

    When I'm working at home, I need to be able to connect to three different outgoing VPNs, two of which happen to use the same internal IP addressing schemes (192.168.0.*). I also need a static address for my VirtualBox VM so I can connect to my testing web server. Are there any routers which will allow me to connect to multiple outgoing VPNs and assign different internal IP addresses through NAT? Is such a thing even possible, or are there alternate solutions available? Thanks!

But sometimes we (as in experienced amateurs) run into problems that aren't so common, nobody has blogged about it and experts advice not readily available. For IT-admin related stuff can someone please recommend how can amateurs pay experts and get hands on advice. The kinds of problems I am talking about are like setting up nxserver or openvpn on freeBSD box. The install/config is not so simple, the documentation not easy for non-it professionals.   • Windows 7 x64 support for Intel GMA 3650 (or GMA 3600)

    I recently purchased an Intel D2700 MUD motherboard and I cannot find drivers for the Win7 x64 integrated graphics (Intel GMA 3650 aka PowerVR sgs545). The accompanying CD contains Win7 x32 version only. When I run it I got an error: This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing the software. I tried to use online utility Intel Driver Update Utility Graphics. I used Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer without success. First, UAC prompt appear, and then endlessly spinning progress-bar with text "Analyzing computer...". The text in UAC prompt is: Program file name: System Requirements Lab Verified publisher: Husdawg, LLC I downloaded this utility (intel_srldetect_4.5.5.0) and started it from my hard disk. I got an error: A network error occured while attempting to read from the file: C:\Users\Loom\Downloads\SystemRequirementsLab_intel_4.5.5.0.msi Standard VGA driver works for this video card but without hardware acceleration: Hardware acceleration is either disabled or not supported by your video card driver, which could slow game performance. Make sure you have the latest video card driver installed and that hardware acceleration is turned on. Where I can get appropriate driver?

I notice that we have the Chrome backup feature which will restore my chrome extensions after we sign in via a Google account. I have already tried out Roundcube and while it does work reasonably well so far there is one great feature from Thunderbird that seems to be missing - it doesn't allow me to have a unified mailbox for multiple IMAP accounts. Can anybody recommend a web-based IMAP client that has this feature?

    Having an unencrypted vpn connection from a windows client to linux is pretty easy by using pptpd. When I was looking for an solution for encrypted (per MPPE) connection, I found a lot of information about patching the kernel etc. - so it definitly works after some work. But all these information is pretty old (2005-2006). Is it the same solution nowadays? I am not asking for a complete instruction (only if it's short) - I am more asking for a link to the right solution.

  • Custom PCI bracket with support, for custom PCB?

    I am considering to put a custom PCB card that I made, into my computer. It won't go on any PCI connector, it plugs in on a USB connector on the motherboard, via a ribbon cable. I need thou to plug a device to it; which means that either I leave the PCB outside the case, hanging by the ribbon (bad idea), or I could put it in a PCI slot, using a bracket. The issue is that the brackets that I have, do not have tabs, so I have no way to screw the PCB on them. I was hoping to find something that would allow me to put the PCB on it, and then just fit it in the PCI bracket opening, like this: http://www.idotpc.com/TheStore/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=1203&idcategory=0 This one won't fit the bill since the holes are too close apart, compared to the one that I have already on the PCB (and can't make more holes). Do you know if there is a place where they make universal PCI bracket mounting systems for custom PCB? I just need one, so can't even order a custom one (they ask me 120 dollars for one).     according to trickle's man page, http://linux.die.net/man/1/trickle i can limit the download speed of a process, e.g. trickle -u 10 -d 20 ncftp to Launch ncftp(1) limiting its upload capacity to 10 KB/s, and download capacity at 20 KB/s. how would I go about limiting google-chrome or firefox with trickle? Edit: For those of you asking why I asked such an obvious question, I tried trickle -u 10 -d 20 firefox and I'm getting an error trickle: Could not reach trickled, working independently: No such file or directory firefox opens right after, but is definitely not rate limited...

  • Fresh install of nginx causes browser to download index.html instead of opening it

    When I view this in Chrome, http://localhost:90 the file is downloaded instead of displayed in Chrome. This question has been asked a lot of times on SO, but about index.php files. My problem is a plain jane HTML file, not a PHP file. That hasn't been asked yet. I was hoping the solution would be similar, but I haven't been able to figure it out. Here's my example.com.conf: server { server_name localhost; listen 90; root /var/www/example.com/html index index.html location / { try_file $uri $uri/ =404; } } My index.html file contains only two words, no markup Hello World I think it's the mime.types. The mime.types file has the entry for html in it. This is a fresh nginx install. nginx -t reports "test is successful"

    Hi Guys, I upgraded to 64bit ubuntu and every now and again (quite often though) i am unable to to type into the search box for google in chrome and firefox, i havent tried other browsers as these are the 2 i primarily use. Has anyone else experienced this? any solutions? also i'm unable to drag the slider in youtube (in firefox) to scan through videos.

  • Is the guideline: don't open email attachments or execute downloads or run plug-ins (Flash, Java) from untrusted sites enough to avert infection?

    I'd like to know if the following is enough to avert malware as I feel that the press and other advisory resources aren't always precisely clear on all the methods as to how PCs get infected. To my mind, the key step to getting infected is a conscious choice by the user to run an executable attachment from an email or download, but also viewing content that requires a plug-in (Flash, Java or something else). This conscious step breaks down into the following possibilities: don't open email attachments: certainly agree with this. But lets try to be clear: email comes in 2 parts -the text and the attachment. Just reading the email should not be risky, right? But opening (i.e. running) email attachments IS risky (malware can be present in the attachment) don't execute downloads (e.g. from sites linked from in suspect emails or otherwise): again certainly agree with this (malware can be present in the executable). Usually the user has to voluntary click to download, or at least click to run the executable. Question: has there ever been a case where a user has visited a site and a download has completed on its own and run on its own? don't run content requiring plug-ins: certainly agree: malware can be present in the executable. I vaguely recall cases with Flash but know of the Java-based vulnerabilities much better. Now, is the above enough? Note that I'm much more cautious than this. What I'm concerned about is that the media is not always very clear about how the malware infection occurs. They talk of "booby-trapped sites", "browser attacks" - HOW exactly? I'd presume the other threat would be malevolent use of Javascript to make an executable run on the user's machine. Would I be right and are there details I can read up on about this. Generally I like Javascript as a developer, please note. An accepted answer would fill in any holes I've missed here so we have a complete general view of what the threats are (even though the actual specific details of new threats vary, but the general vectors are known).

  • Chrome browser rendering unpredictable mobile layout

    I am having a very hard time debugging this issue, I may as well find out if others have seen anything similar. I am finding that Webkit browsers are rendering extra space in a stacked menu I'm using for the mobile layout on a site I'm developing. The best way to describe this is with the following images: You can see that the is selected and shown with the padding. There is no margin, and yet there is some space between the top of the padding and the bottom border of the sibling. Here is how it is supposed to look in Firefox: I am interested to see if the community knows what in the world is going on! As I move through the inspector, I am not able to highlight the offending area, making this very hard to diagnose, as I've said.

  • Why is my browser using so much memory?

    Hi. I've recently had problems with Firefox running very slowly when I have many tabs open; say 20 tabs. My whole system would slow down. I decided to give Google Chrome a try, and it started out fine. But lately I am finding that it too, slows down my whole system. Looking at Task Manager, chrome.exe is using about 250MB of memory in about 6 different entries in task manager. However, when I shut Chrome down, memory usage is reduced by about 600MB. How can this be? (shows drop in memory usage after ending Chrome.) When my system locks up with Chrome having many tabs open, it takes 10 seconds to load the Start Menu, 10 seconds to expand All Programs, and each folder and subfolder, and 30 seconds for the program to be highlighted under my mouse. It also takes 10 seconds to switch to Notepad. Why is Chrome appearing to use so much more memory than Task Manager indicates? Why is my pagefile being used when I have around 1.1GB of memory? Can I set Chrome to run in RAM and not in the pagefile? How can 20 tabs use 600MB? That's 30MB per tab. Thanks for your help.

  • ssh connection with full tab key support

    I have Ubuntu 10.04 installation. When I open terminal, tab key works fine e.g. i type "apt-get install mysql" then press tab and see all options. But when I connect via ssh - tab key works only before first space. So it will do nothing in above example. I tried connect with different clients (ssh, putty, etc), and always same behavior. My question is: how to make tab key work properly? Is problem in server or client?

  • Does OS X support linux-like features?

    I have been using XP for almost a decade. Contrary to popular belief, it has served me well. In the last 4 years I don't remember ever having it crash on me. It has the most stable GUI I have ever used. However, an OS is only as good as it's GUI AND command line combined. Windows command line is awful and totally useless. So I have been using Ubuntu for a couple years and Debian on my servers. The only problem is that Gnome applications (ubuntu 6-10) constantly crash on me (Ubuntu Studio was the most unstable OS I ever used). I have high quality Gigabyte, MSI, and Asus motherboards and CPU's from old Semprons/Athlons to Celerons/Core 2 Quads. What are the odds that every PC I have ever owned can't remain stable with a linux GUI? Not to mention that Adobe CSx Suite doesn't work on linux. Anyway, I am now looking at moving to a MAC in the hope of finding a stable GUI and a feature-packed command line. Does Mac OS have an integrated command line where I can do linux-like-awesomeness like rsync, ssh, wget, crong jobs, package updates, and git without having an unstable GUI? Basically, until the linux GUI applications get a little better, is OS X what I need?

  • Need reasonably priced router with QoS support [closed]

    I dont need wireless. I am expecting very heavy traffic, with possibly thousands of tcp connections open at one time. This would require that the router has good hardware. I also need to limit the different services i will provide. Lets say i need to guarantee 60% of all the bandwidth to HTTP, 10% FTP, and 10% for Mail... So the router software must have flexible QoS options as well. I don't know which one to chooose, because this information is usually not given on the router specs.
