• Remove Google+ company page after verification?

  My personal Google+ page has a lot of comments and posts that I'd like to keep. However, I've only just finished validating the business page as well (Google+ company page) in the hopes of improving traffic. Now that it's been validated, can I remove the Google+ Company link and switch it back to my original personal Google+ page? Scenario: My client is an accountant (one man shop) and so both personal and company Google+ pages would work.

• SEO and unique IDs in urls

  I have a web site who's home page is at http://domain.com when a new user first hits the web site I'm creating a unique id of 5 chars for them (for example 'abcde' and redirecting them to http://domain.com/abcde so they can later bookmark and return to their workspace. My question is what's the best approach for SEO purposes, I need the main url domain.com to be indexed but google will also get the redirect and will not index the main page. I know about canonical urls, but this applies only when the domain.com url does not redirect also should I use 301 or 302 code in the redirect ?

• Google not indexing new forum

  We installed a new forum a few months ago now. The URL is: https://www.scirra.com/forum I've 301'd the old topics/threads, as well as included all the new URLs in the sitemap. Yet they still are not appearing. Webmaster tools is showing: 139,512 URLs submitted 50,544 URLs indexed And has been stuck there for quite some time. • Best stats tool for cross-domain tracking

  We build a webapp that allows users to run the app under their own subdomain. So we run the app under search.domainX.com, search.domainY.com and so on. They each have their own Google Analytics to track individual stats. But we want to know what general traffic for all clients of our app. So we want to know stuff like "among all our clients we had x number of views." What is the best way tool to track that sort of thing. We prefer a snippet based solution similar to Google Analytics if possible.

• How to number nested ordered lists.

  Is there any way through CSS to style nested ordered lists to display sub numbers? The idea is similar to using heading levels. However what I'd really like to see is the following. Note each of these subsections has text not just a title. This isn't a real example just some organisational stuff. Now I know I can use <h1>-<h6> but nested lists would be much clearer and allow for different indentation styling. Also it would be symentically correct. • SEO optimisation problems after Google Panda [on hold]

  I am currently trying to improve a website's SEO after it took quite a hit from the Google Panda upgrades. What are the main things I need to look at improving when trying to improve its ranking in Google? I have already made sure that the pages validate to W3C Standards, minimized css and js and done the obvious meta tags and header optimization but this hasn't made any difference yet. It could possibly be a content issue as the pages currently read much like a brochure and there were some pages with just a video and no text content on them which is also an issue. I've added a rel="nofollow" attribute to the links to these pages although i'm told this doesn't really work anymore. If anyone has any ideas let me know. Cheers!

  Hi, I'm the webmaster for a small social network and have noticed that images uploaded by users are taking a big portion of the capacity available. These are mostly JPEGs. What solutions could I apply to reduce storage needs? Is there a way to reduce the size of images without affecting quality too much?   I used to find http://www.patterntap.com quite useful to get design inspiration for forms, tabs, and other web elements etc. Unfortunately after the ZURB acquisition of Patterntap now they enforce you to sign in with your Twitter account in order to simply view larger images of patterns provided by the crowd. So in some way it's not free anymore. Do you know of alternatives to patterntap that are free and you are not obliged to sign in?

This is very much an objective question with legitimate use and purpose to identify hosts that offer the following: Multi Domain SSL Certificate Linux Server PHP5+ cPanel Unlimited Storage, Bandwidth, MySql DBs and Addon Domains SSL is mentioned first because this is most important. This is not a single domain or wildcard SSL cert. It's relatively new and unique. It's for the purpose of securing multiple domains on one account without having to have an entirely separate hosting account and SSL cert for every domain. I'm currently using BlueHost/HostMonster which meets all my criteria except for this special kind of SSL cert. Currently, HostGator is the only host that offers everything I've listed that I've been able to find. Again, I'm not requesting recommendations, advice or opinions of the best or most reputable service based on your experiences. I am asking for an objective list of known hosts that offer the aforementioned listed items only. Thereafter, I (and others who this will benefit) can make our comparisons and selection privately.

• Why do some bad websites rank well?

  Consider the following scenario: you are pitching SEO/Website Optimisation to a prospective client and you explain to them the importance of great copy and content, how acquiring links (ethically) can increase page rank, why the quality of the HTML build matters (H1, H2 tags, w3c validation etc), why keyword research is beneficial, you may drop in a few Google Webmaster Guideline or Matt Cutts references to back up your claims and rubbish the "back hat" approach as being no longer effective for good measure. Your advice is ethical and in the eyes of best practices, spot on. Then, the client points out to you some of their long established competitors on Google and you see these competitor websites ranking in the top spots (1 to 3) for medium to highly competitive search phrases that your client wants to compete for. These websites totally contradict your ethical approach and pretty much violate every best practice previously noted. They even out perform other "white hat" competitors who are in accordance with the above guidelines. I experienced this today. One of these well ranking websites had: About six microsites with more or less the same copy and a slightly varied layout Little or not textual content I would almost say duplicate content across the sites, but there was so little of it it could barely qualify for being duplicate All the content in Flash (with a music track that kicked in on each page load, not so much of an SEO issue - but it helps paint the picture) Keyword stuffing behind the Flash file with a bunch of black text on black background in the style of keyword 1 keyword 2,keyword1,keyword 2,keyword 2 keyword 3 and so on... The exact keyword stuffed combination present on every page of the website A bunch of clearly self made links from poor quality forums and directories with little or no Page Rank Links exchanged across the microsites How do you explain your way out of this when this hard evidence is sat in front of you undermining your great pitch?

• How does the web server choose between unicode and utf-8 for accented characters?

  I have a web server with my ISP which replaces accented characters in URLs with their unicode values: for instance é (eacute) is translated to %e9 (dec 233). For testing locally I use EasyPHP which translates those characters by their utf-8 equivalence: é is then replaced by the well known sequence %c3%a9 (é)... Browsers served by EasyPHP don't decode unicode values but they do if running locally (utf-8 and non converted accent also)... I have been unable to find where this behavior is configured in the server. This is a problem as some urls are built by my application using the php rawurlencode() which seems to always encode with unicode values on both servers. Any idea?

• how to track Google Analytics of Adobe Air app?

  I have written an Adobe Air desktop application that tracks a bunch of websites and displays images from the websites in the app. And instead of keeping my mouth shut about it and making it look like an attack on the website, I'd like to make it so that the webmasters can see that these pageviews are made by my application. Is there any way the webmaster could distinguish adobe air access of the website from normal visitor browsing? Perhaps by adding something to the URLrequests I make in the application..?

My certificate manager doesn't mention RapidSSL anywhere. Am I looking for the wrong name, e.g. is rapidssl recognized by browsers under a different name? I want to be sure that this certificate is working in all major browsers (including IE6)

I would like to know if anyone knows of a good, web-based recurring billing / payments management system which we could use to help us get more organised regarding this aspect of our business. Basically, we would need to: Create recurring profiles, e.g: Hosting, emails / domain services @ 200eur / year Be able to give free / extend the subscription period, for any reason. Also, we don't have specific products which we would like to choose and charge - all these recurring fees are discussed with the clients, and are created on a per-client basis. • Can .htaccess slow down a site?

  I'm working with a client on an e-commerce website. I implemented clean URLs using .htaccess. I also used .htaccess to solve canonical issues such as redirecting www to non-www and removing index.php from the URL. The website recently began to slow down dramatically, sometimes not even loading. The site is hosted on GoDaddy, and when the client called GoDaddy they told him it was the .htaccess file slowing down the website. I find this highly unlikely because of my past experiences, but I'm not 100% sure. My thinking is that the client's website is most likely on a shared server with a busy neighborhood, thus slowing down the site. It's not always slow, but rather sporadic throughout the day, loading fast at some points and slow at other points in time. Can the .htaccess file slow down a website to a crawl? If so, are there better ways to solve these problems with different rewrite rules and such? • Failing with Adsense / How to get $ PC

  So, I am literally just starting out with google adsense. I have implemented google adsense ads from (1) account and from (2) different channels, per website they're on. (2 Wordpress Websites, activated with 'GoogleAdsense Plugin' for WordPress). They are implemented at the bottom of every post on my 2 Wordpress websites within the 'Blog' sections. My adsense dashboard is stating I've received a few clicks; but across it still states my account earnings and balance at $0.00. When / How will I start seeing money earned to my account?
