  • MySQL - Find entries that refer to a specified index.

    Hi, So I have a booking system where I have a 'lesson_type' table with 'lesson_type_id' as PK. I have a constraint in place here so I can't delete a lesson_type if there are bookings made for that lesson_type. I would like to be able to determine if this lesson_type_id is being referred to by any entries in the bookings table (or any other table for that matter) so I can notify the user gracefully. i.e. not have a mysql error be thrown when they try and delete a record. What kind of query would I use for this? Thanks.

  • Doctrine: How to traverse from an entity to another 'linked' entity?

    I'm loading 3 different tables using a cross-join in Doctrine_RawSql. This brings me back the following object: User -> User class (doctrine base class) Settings -> DoctrineCollection of Setting User_Settings -> DoctrineCollection of User_Setting The object above is the result of a many-to-many relationship between User and Setting where User_Setting acts as a reference table. User_Setting also contains another field named value. This obviously contains the value of the corresponding Setting. All good so far, however the Settings and User_Settings properties of the returned User object are in no way linked to each other (apart from the setting_id field ofcourse). Is there any direct way to traverse directly from the Settings property to the corresponding User_Settings property?   • How to retrieve Google Appengine Objects by id (Long value) ?

    Hi, i have declared an entity the following way: public class MyEntity { @PrimaryKey @Persistent(valueStrategy = IdGeneratorStrategy.IDENTITY) private Long id; @Persistent private String text; //getters and setters } Now I want to retrieve the objects using the id. I tried to manage it from the Google Appengine Data Viewer with "SELECT * FROM MyEntity Where id = 382005" or via a query in a servlet. I get no results returned. But i know for sure that the object with the id exists (i made a jsp which queries all objects in the db and displays them in the db). So what is wrong in my query? Am I querying the wrong field? The Google Appengine Data Viewer names the field "ID/name" and it has the value "id=382005". Do I have to query with this names? I've tried but it didn't work out :(

  • Specifying $(this).val() for two different elements (by class)

    What would be the correct syntax for specifying 2 elements by class to evaluate their values when they have different classes? This snippet adds and/or removes values from "increase_priority1" when the user has selected both a complaint and ranked the importance level of the issue, however when I added the 2nd element (".complaint select") to the If Statement it stopped working properly and only accepts input from the 2nd item (Waist) after the 1rst item (Shoulders) has been selected. I believe the problem is that it's unable to determine which ".complaint select" to use, but I haven't been able to figure out how to use (this) for the 2nd element, or another similar approach.   • Two way binding when setter is overriden

    I have an NSTextField bound to some object "zoom" property. In this object's class implementation, I have the following - (void)setZoom:(CGFloat)zoom { _zoom = MAX(0, MIN(10, zoom)); } If I write "-5" in the textfield, setZoom: will be called with "-5" as argument and _zoom will be set to 0. Then problem is that the textfield is not updating itself and it shows "-5" instead of re-reading the property value it has just set. If I do myObject.zoom = -5; in code, the text field will display 0 correctly. I tried to wrap _zoom =... inside willChangeValueForKey/didChangeValueForKey calls but it didn't change anything.

  • Why must I use local path rather than 'svn://' with SVN bindings?

    I'm using the Ruby SVN bindings built with SWIG. Here's a little tutorial. When I do this @repository = Svn::Repos.open('/path/to/repository') I can access the repository fine. But when I do this @repository = Svn::Repos.open('svn://localhost/some/path') It fails with /SourceCache/subversion/subversion-35/subversion/subversion/libsvn_subr/io.c:2710: 2: Can't open file 'svn://localhost/format': No such file or directory When I do this from the command line, I do get output svn ls svn://localhost/some/path Any ideas why I can't use the svn:// protocol?

    array_key_exists is not working for large multidimensional array. For ex $arr=array( '1'=>10, '2'=>array('21'=>21, '22'=>22, '23'=>array('test'=>100, '231'=>231), ), '3'=>30, '4'=>40 ); array_key_exists('test',$arr) returns 'false' but it works with some simple arrays.

  • How to update a mesh position base on a pressed key?

    I have a mesh loaded from a file, like a tiger mesh. At the first time it locates at A position, then if I press a left key, it will moves to B position but the problem is if I press a left key one more time, it will move from B position to C position. It means that the amount I want to move the mesh will base on the current position instead of the first time rendering position. I can do it if I have a array vertices then I just update the vertex buffer, but a mesh loaded from a file does not have an array vertices, so how to do it? Anybody help me, please?

    We have a large number of data in many categories with many properties, e.g. category 1: Book properties: BookID, BookName, BookType, BookAuthor, BookPrice category 2: Fruit properties: FruitID, FruitName, FruitShape, FruitColor, FruitPrice We have many categories like book and fruit. Obviously we can create many tables for them (MySQL e.g.), and each category a table. But this will have to create too many tables and we have to write many "adapters" to unify manipulating data. The difficulties are: 1) Every category has different properties and this results in a different data structure. 2) The properties of every categoriy may have to be changed at anytime. 3) Hard to manipulate data if each category a table (too many tables) How do you store such kind of data?

  • Should I try to write simple key-value storage by myself?

    I need a key-value storage in a simplest form we can think of. Keys should be some fixed-length strings, values should be some texts. This key-value storage should have an HTTP-backed API. That's basically it. As you can see, there is no big difference between such storage and some web application with some upload functionality. The thing is - it'll take few hours (including tests and coffee drinking) to write something like this. "Something like this" will be fully under my control and can be tuned on demand. Should I, in this specific case, not try to reinvent bicycles? Is it better to use some of existing NoSQL solutions. If yes, which one exactly? If, say, I'd needed something SQL-like, I won't ask and won't try to write something by myself. But with NoSQL I just don't know what is adequate and what is not.

    Hey All I have a database with around 40 tables and need to rename every index column. IE USER a table has a bunch of fields like user_id | user_username | user_password | etc... I want to rename the ID columns just to id ie id | user_username | user_password | etc... But I keep getting mysql errors on the alter table command ie. ALTER TABLE database RENAME COLUMN user_id to id; Plus many different variations. Whats the best way to do this ? Hope you can advise

  • Entity framework Update fails when object is linked to a missing child

    I’m having trouble updating an objects child when the object has a reference to a nonexising child record. eg. Tables Car and CarColor have a relationship. Car.CarColorId CarColor.CarColorId If I load the car with its color record like so this var result = from x in database.Car.Include("CarColor") where x.CarId = 5 select x; I'll get back the Car object and it’s Color object. Now suppose that some time ago a CarColor had been deleted but the Car record in question still contains the CarColorId value. So when I run the query the Color object is null because the CarColor record didn’t exist. My problem here is that when I attach another Color object that does exist I get a Store update, insert error when saving. Car.Color = newColor Database.SaveChanges(); It’s like the context is trying to delete the nonexisting color. How can I get around this?

    Ultimately I'm going to convert this into a Hibernate/JPA design. But I wanted to start out from purely a database perspective. We have various tables containing data that is future-effective-dated. Take an employee table with the following pseudo-definition: employee id INT AUTO_INCREMENT ... data fields ... effectiveFrom DATE effectiveTo DATE employee_reviews id INT AUTO_INCREMENT employee_id INT FK employee.id Very simplistic. But let's say Employee A has id = 1, effectiveFrom = 1/1/2011, effectiveTo = 1/1/2099. That employee is going to be changing jobs in the future, which would in theory create a new row, id = 2 with effectiveFrom = 7/1/2011, effectiveTo = 1/1/2099, and id = 1's effectiveTo updated to 6/30/2011. But now, my program would have to go through any table that has a FK relationship to employee every night, and update those FK to reference the newly-effective employee entry. I have seen various postings in both pure SQL and Hibernate forums that I should have a separate employee_versions table, which is where I would have all effective-dated data stored, resulting in the updated pseudo-definition below: employee id INT AUTO_INCREMENT employee_versions id INT AUTO_INCREMENT employee_id INT FK employee.id ... data fields ... effectiveFrom DATE effectiveTo DATE employee_reviews id INT AUTO_INCREMENT employee_id INT FK employee.id Then to get any actual data, one would have to actually select from employee_versions with the proper employee_id and date range. This feels rather unnatural to have this secondary "versions" table for each versioned entity. Anyone have any opinions, suggestions from your own prior work, etc? Like I said, I'm taking this purely from a general SQL design standpoint first before layering in Hibernate on top. Thanks!

    I'm stuck on how to formulate this problem properly and the following is: What if we had the following values: {('A','B','C','D'):3, ('A','C','B','D'):2, ('B','D','C','A'):4, ('D','C','B','A'):3, ('C','B','A','D'):1, ('C','D','A','B'):1} When we sum up the first place values: [5,4,2,3] (5 people picked for A first, 4 people picked for B first, and so on like A = 5, B = 4, C = 2, D = 3) The maximum values for any alphabet is 5, which isn't a majority (5/14 is less than half), where 14 is the sum of total values. So we remove the alphabet with the fewest first place picks. Which in this case is C. I want to return a dictionary where {'A':5, 'B':4, 'C':2, 'D':3} without importing anything. This is my work: def popular(letter): '''(dict of {tuple of (str, str, str, str): int}) -> dict of {str:int} ''' my_dictionary = {} counter = 0 for (alphabet, picks) in letter.items(): if (alphabet[0]): my_dictionary[alphabet[0]] = picks else: my_dictionary[alphabet[0]] = counter return my_dictionary This returns duplicate of keys which I cannot get rid of. They are using cakePHP and there are quite a few relationships. I am pretty sure I will have to write a script to import that data from on DB to the other and keep all the relationships but was wondering if there is an easier way to do it.

Query 2: Find out total of sales of a particual salesman in all the regions. (if the first one is solved I think this will be easy. :-) )
