  It's been an eventful day here at Microsoft DevDays 2010, and the show hasn't even officially started! First item of business is to get to a hotel for rest and get some great food-not necessarily in that order. My flight was as good as one can expect- the guy next to me, Jim Anderson, was affable but not overly chatty, and he's a soundman on European tour with The Sonics. Jim was the house-sound guy for the Crocodile Caf for many years, and it was great to talk to a guy who loves audio like I do....Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • Screencast several application windows at once in Microsoft Windows

  I have several (20+) applications running on a Microsoft Windows PC. What I would like is a solution that allows me to broadcast the window of each application in a webpage, in readonly mode (there's no need for the users to interact with it). This should work even if the application is in the background, seeing that there's no way to fit all of them on the screen. I performed very extensive searching, from simple screencasting apps such as Camtasia, CamStudio or VHScrCap to things like VNC (haven't found any server able to broadcast multiple windows at once, much less background windows) and even application virtualization, but in the end I haven't found anything that fits my needs. Most solutions that allow capturing a window instead of the whole desktop will not let you capture multiple windows but only a single window and on top of that they don't even work when the window is in the background.

  I installed Ubuntu 11.10 today on my Lenovo w500. After that when i tried running sudo apt-get update This is the error i am getting. You can use the -tvv option to test integrity of such files. You can use the `bzip2recover' program to attempt to recover data from undamaged sections of corrupted files. I found the following similar question : Errors while updating Ubuntu 11.10 , But the solutions mentioned ( changing the download server, running apt-get clean, apt-get autoclean) and have also tried removing the /var/cache/apt/archives/lists direcotry. As a result of this, I am unable to install any new packages.

• running apt-get update shows GPG error

  I am getting below GPG error on running the command sudo apt-get update. W: GPG error: http://in.archive.ubuntu.com precise Release: The following signatures were invalid: BADSIG 40976EAF437D05B5 Ubuntu Archive Automatic Signing Key <[email protected]> W: Duplicate sources.list entry http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/ precise/partner i386 Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/archive.canonical.com_ubuntu_dists_precise_partner_binary-i386_Packages) Also, I am not able to install applications from software center. Every time I install it shows a dialog box with the message, Requires Installation of Untrusted packages The action would require the installation of packages from not authenticated sources. OK or Repair options does nothing.

• Windows Azure Tools for Microsoft Visual Studio 1.2 (June 2010)

  I have good news! Microsoft has released the June 2010 Windows Azure Tools + SDK. These new tools extend Visual Studio (both VS 2010 & VS 2008) for Windows Azure development. With these tools you can create, configure, debug, build, run, and deploy scalable web apps on Windows Azure. At first glance what I see as some of the most interesting points of interest are the fact that Visual Studio 2010 RTM is fully supported as well as .NET 4 support. You can choose to build your apps with the .NET 3.5 or .NET 4 frameworks. Another area of interest that I’ll be digging into is the cloud storage explorer. It provides a read-only view of your Windows Azure tables and blob containers from within Visual Studio via the Server Explorer. I’m sure I’ll have more to say about the Windows Azure Tools as I dig deeper… Have a day. :-|

• How can I selectively update XNA GameComponents?

  I have a small 2D game I'm working on in XNA. So far, I have a player-controlled ship that operates on vector thrust and is terribly fun to spin around in circles. I've implemented this as a DrawableGameComponent and registered it with the game using game.Components.Add(this) in the Ship object constructor. How can I implement features like pausing and a menu system with my current implementation? Is it possible to set certain GameComponents to not update? Is this something for which I should even be using a DrawableGameComponent? If not, what are more appropriate uses for this?

• Connect to a Microsoft Exchange 5.5 server using Evolution

  I am trying to set up Evolution to connect to my company's Exchange server, but I got this error after entering the request OWA URL and credentials: The Exchange server is not compatible with Exchange Connector. The server is running Exchange 5.5. Exchange Connector supports Microsoft Exchange 2000 and 2003 only. I read that I can use Thunderbird or IMAP if it's enabled, but that I'd lose calendar and contacts sync. I'd rather not do that. Is there a workaround for this so that I can get roughly the same functionality I'd get using Outlook for Windows?

• Broken Gnome panel after Ubuntu Update

  Like every single update on Ubuntu system, my graphical system is completely broken after updating to version 11.10 http://i.imgur.com/YIHfA.png As shown in the image, the date is in the middle of the panel, There are many icons missing (network connection icon, skype) There's no right click menu when I try to right click on the panel and many programs don't have their menus (file,edit,view... those things).   That disconcerting news is what Mark Hachman is reporting for Read Write Web. One can more or less safely assume that Microsoft will come up with its own antivirus software for Windows RT.   (in via Nancy) Customers using EPM 11.1.2.3 and a web browser to launch the Essbase Administration Services Console will lose the ability to launch EAS Console via the Web URL if they apply Java 1.7 build 45. Development is currently investigating this issue. Workaround: If Java 1.7 Update 45 has been installed, it will need to be uninstalled and a previous version will need to be installed. Older versions of Java are available in the Java Archive Note: Though it may work, Java 1.7 is not supported in previous versions of EAS.   On my work network any apt-get (or aptitude) commands take a very long time, it's look's like admins blocked some port for it (for unknown reason). • Seeking questions about creating Microsoft Live Labs Pivot collections

  I've spent the past 3 weeks working a lot with Pivot from Microsoft Live Labs (http://getpivot.com/).  Pivot is a tool that allows you to visually explore data. Its an interesting take on visual data mining. Anyway, I've been writing a lot of code that creates a hierarchy of Pivot collections, where one item in the collection drills down into an entirly new collection. The dev community around Pivot is still very young, so there isnt much tribal knowledge built up yet.  I've spent a lot of time trying to get things to work through trial and error, as well as digging around in Reflector.  But I've finally got a framework built for programatically creating DeepZoom images, Pivot collections, Sparse Images, etc.   If anyone has any questions, or suggestions on a post topic, leave a comment and I'll try and answer your question.

• Changing DisplayMode seems not to update Input&Graphic Dimension

  I'm writing a small game using Slick and Nifty-GUI. At the program startup I set the DisplayMode using the following lines: AppGameContainer app = new ... app.setDisplayMode( 800, 600, false ); app.start(); I wrote a Nifty-ScreenController for my settings dialog in which the user can select the desired DisplayMode. When I try to set the new DisplayMode within this controller class the game window gets resized correctly but the Graphics and Input objects aren't updated accordingly. Therefore my rendering code just uses a part of the new window. I tried to set different DisplayModes in the main method to test if it's generally possible to invoke this method multiple times. It seems that changing the DisplayMode only works before I call app.start(). Furthermore I tried to update the Graphics & Input object manually but the init and setDimensions methods are package private. :( Does someone know what I'm doing wrong and how to change the DisplayMode correctly?
